Ginger Princess
Girl moding so hard rn
[OVERVIEW]
With a solid defensive typing in Water / Ground, Quagsire has valuable resistances to Fire-, Rock-, Steel-, and Poison-type moves, on top of an Electric-type immunity and only one weakness, albeit a 4x one to Grass-type moves. While 95 / 85 / 65 defenses are on the middling side of decent, especially concerning Special Defense, it's just enough for Quagsire to survive a wide range of physical and special attacks that are not Grass-type, using Z-Stockpile's healing effect to immediately negate any attack that doesn't KO it and boost its defenses. Access to Unaware means that foes like Mega Charizard X and Landorus-T can't use boosting moves of their own to counter Stockpile, leaving them unable to KO Quagsire with an attack. However, Quagsire's average bulk can be taken advantage of by some of the more powerful moves in 1v1, and it can still be easily OHKOed by some of the most common Pokemon in the game, such as Greninja, Tapu Lele, and Porygon-Z. Stockpile can only be used three times as well, meaning moves that drop defenses such as Metal Sound can leave Quagsire vulnerable. Quagsire is also very passive, struggles against opposing stall like stall Deoxys-S and Rest Slowbro, and tends to lose to Taunt from Pokemon like Mega Gyarados and Kommo-o.

Moves
========
Stockpile boosts Quagsire's defenses and, when used with Normalium Z, fully heals it at the same time. With Quagsire's low speed, almost every offensive Pokemon will attack first, at which point it can shrug off any hit that doesn't OHKO, fully restore its health, and boost its defenses to ensure that it'll easily take any subsequent attacks. Recover continues to restore health after using Stockpile and is essential, as most physical attackers can continue to do enough damage to threaten Quagsire after one Stockpile, giving Quagsire the longevity it needs to continue to boost its defenses. Toxic is Quagsire's main method of doing damage and taking out the majority of Pokemon. Scald keeps Quagsire from being completely passive and gives it a chance of burning physical attackers, ensuring it will survive physical critical hits and giving it a chance against certain Pokemon such as bulky Taunt Krookodile and Mega Diancie, both of which can prevent Quagsire from using Toxic on them. Alternatively, Earthquake allows Quagsire to hit the Steel- and Poison-type Pokemon that are naturally immune to Toxic, such as Mega Metagross, Magnezone, and Mega Gengar. Additionally, having an attacking move allows Quagsire to not have to resort to Struggle if it is Taunted, and it also lets Quagsire break through Substitute users like Mega Charizard X and Landorus-T.
Set Details
========
Normalium Z is essential, as Quagsire needs Z-Stockpile's healing effect to survive more than a single attack against the majority of offensive Pokemon. Unaware allows Quagsire to ignore the stat changes of the foe when taking or dealing damage, although it leaves a vulnerability to moves like Draco Meteor from Naganadel and Fleur Cannon from Magearna, as Quagsire unfortunately ignores the stat dropping effects of these moves as well. Quagsire runs 248 HP EVs and 84 Defense EVs with a Bold or Impish nature in order to avoid an OHKO from Tectonic Rage from Landorus-T. The rest is put into Special Defense to maximize special bulk. Be sure to switch around the natures depending on the type of offensive coverage you are running.
Usage Tips
========
On Team Preview, consider what Pokemon your opponent has that are capable of beating Quagsire. Grass-types like Venusaur and Kartana are a no-go, and Quagsire likely shouldn't be brought out against them. It can easily handle a plethora of other bulky offense Pokemon, though, so if your opponent's team features the likes of Mega Metagross, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X, Quagsire can shine. When using Quagsire against an offensive threat, your first move should always be to go for Z-Stockpile. As long as Quagsire manages to take the hit, it will completely restore its health and boost its defenses by one stage. After that, boost with Stockpile and heal with Recover accordingly, making sure Quagsire remains out of range of being KOed. After Quagsire has used Stockpile three times and is at high HP, go for Toxic and stall the foe's health away. Use Scald and Earthquake in matchups where Toxic would be ineffectual or where Scald does more damage faster, such as against Landorus-T, Krookodile, and Mega Tyranitar. Against other Toxic users, be sure to preserve Z-Stockpile as long as you can, as it allows Quagsire to survive Toxic for a few turns longer than its foe can. Always remember that Quagsire can lose to an inopportune critical hit, so if you have a more reliable way of taking out the opponent's Pokemon, it may be better to go with that instead.
Team Options
========
Teammates capable of beating Grass-types like Venusaur are appreciated, so Flyinium Z Dragonite and Landorus-T make good partners, and Quagsire can take out Pokemon such as Dragonite and Kyurem for them. Tapu Lele beats Venusaur as well as other counters such as Mega Gyarados, Haxorus, and Greninja, while Quagsire can take out some of Tapu Lele's best answers in Mega Metagross and Mega Aggron. Stall beaters such as Mega Gyarados and Zygarde help patch up Quagsire's weakness to opposing stall while letting Quagsire capitalize on the focused sets ran to beat them; however, Quagsire must be wary, as Grass coverage is often used to threaten Mega Gyarados. Specially defensive Pokemon such as Laser Focus Meloetta can also provide an answer to hyper offensive special attackers like Porygon-Z and Mega Gardevoir that threaten Quagsire's poor defenses, and in return, Quagsire can defend Meloetta against Volcarona and Magnezone, which can both effectively take it down.

Other Options
=============
An EV spread of 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD with either a Calm or Careful nature sacrifices defensive versatility for better chances against bulky special attackers like Meloetta and non-Grass Knot Greninja, but it still struggles against powerful special attacking threats such as Tapu Lele and Porygon-Z. A Sassy or Relaxed nature with minimized Speed IVs lets Quagsire always underspeed Mega Aggron and Mega Mawile, allowing it to dodge a Metal Burst, but leaves it more vulnerable to Taunt from them. Rest can be run over Recover to beat opposing stall, curing Toxic and potentially PP stalling the opposing Pokemon, but doing so leaves Quagsire unable to recover enough on more powerful offensive threats.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Grass Moves**: Quagsire's 4x weakness to Grass means that Grass coverage is more than capable of OHKOing it easily. Venusaur, Kartana, and Tapu Bulu as well as Solar Beam Mega Charizard Y, Bloom Doom Heatran, and Grass Knot Greninja are all threats to look out for.
**Extremely Powerful Moves**: Quagsire's middling bulk leaves it unable to take the most powerful moves in the metagame, being KOed by Shattered Psyche Tapu Lele, Hyper Beam Mega Gardevoir, Choice Specs Draco Meteor Naganadel, and every Porygon-Z set.
**Taunt**: Although Normalium Z ensures Quagsire can get at least one defensive boost, it's simply too passive to pose much of a threat afterwards; Scald is easily outdamaged by most offensive Pokemon.
**Mold Breaker**: Mega Gyarados, Haxorus, and Excadrill can all ignore Unaware to boost their Attack more than Stockpile allows and KO Quagsire.
**Rest**: As Quagsire's primary method of attack is through Toxic, any Pokemon that uses Rest can easily PP stall Quagsire into oblivion.
**Defense-lowering Moves**: Moves capable of lowering a Pokemon's Defense, such as Metal Sound from Aegislash, can leave Quagsire vulnerable to being knocked out, as Stockpile only boosts three times.
