Overview
########

Thanks to Quilladin's great physical bulk and access to Spikes, it can check or wall many prominent physical attackers in the tier, including Feraligatr, Kangaskhan, Klinklang, and multiple Fighting-types. Its unique ability, Bulletproof, lets it set up on the most threatening walls in the tier, Vileplume and Ferroseed, by making it immune to "ball" and "bomb" moves. Quilladin also has access to reliable recovery in Synthesis and phazing in Roar, giving it an advantage over its rival, Ferroseed. However, its poor special bulk makes it weak to many common special attackers. Quilladin also lacks offensive presence and is setup bait without Roar. Finally, it faces tough competition from other Grass-type walls, such as Tangela and Vileplume, and other Spikes setters, such as Roselia and Ferroseed, which perform their respective roles better.

Spikes
########
name: Spikes
move 1: Spikes
move 2: Wood Hammer
move 3: Synthesis
move 4: Roar
ability: Bulletproof
item: Eviolite
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
nature: Impish

Moves
========

Spikes makes it easier for sweepers on your team to clean by dealing decent amounts of damage to Pokemon switching in. Wood Hammer is a STAB move that deals decent amounts of damage even when hitting neutrally; Quilladin takes only minimal recoil damage either way. Synthesis recovers health, increasing Quilladin's longevity. Roar phazes foes, preventing Quilladin from being rendered setup bait. It is also very useful for racking up Spikes damage. Quilladin can run Taunt over Roar to stop entry hazard setters and setup sweepers, notably Bouffalant, from setting up alongside it; additionally, with a few Speed EVs, Quilladin can outspeed and Taunt common walls before they can move.

Set Details
========

The HP and Defense EVs, along with an Impish nature, maximize Quilladin's physical bulk, letting it survive a Brave Bird from Swellow or an Acrobatics from Archeops. They also allow it to more easily tank hits from other physical attackers, such as Kangaskhan, Klinklang, and Hariyama. A spread of 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def can be used so that Wood Hammer always breaks 188 HP / 60 Def Uxie's Substitute. Eviolite boosts Quilladin's defenses by 50%, greatly increasing its overall bulk. With Bulletproof, its unique ability, Quilladin becomes immune to all "ball" and "bomb" moves, including the common Sludge Bomb, Focus Blast, and Shadow Ball.

Usage Tips
========

Quilladin can be used throughout the game to set up entry hazards and take neutral or resisted physical attacks. Even though Quilladin can take Knock Off with ease thanks to its great physical bulk, try to avoid getting Eviolite Knocked Off, as without it, Quilladin's defensive capabilities are greatly lowered. Try to set up Spikes on physical attackers whose STAB attacks are either weak or resisted by Quilladin, such as Feraligatr, Rhydon, Golem, and Golurk. Quilladin can also switch into defensive Vileplume, taking negligible damage from its attacks and getting a free turn to set up; however, beware of the rare Hidden Power Fire, which can deal serious damage to Quilladin.

Team Options
========

Quilladin works well on balance and stall teams because of the physical bulk and entry hazards it provides. Pokemon such as Dragalge, Assault Vest Hariyama, Poliwrath, Camerupt, and Seismitoad can take Fire-type moves for Quilladin. The first three can also take Bug-type moves, and Hariyama can take Ice-type moves. Rhydon, Golem, and Steelix are good teammates because they can take on Flying-types for Quilladin and also set up Stealth Rock, which complements Quilladin's Spikes; in return, Quilladin can take Water-, Grass-, and Ground-type moves. Probopass is a great partner because it covers Quilladin's Ice, Bug, and Flying weaknesses, while Quilladin covers its Ground weakness. Quilladin appreciates Wish support, as it likes to be at full health and Synthesis is not always enough, and cleric support from special walls such as Audino and Lickilicky helps it with both this issue and its weakness to special moves; Quilladin can take physical moves for them. Spinblockers such as Mismagius, Golurk, and Rotom prevent Quilladin's Spikes from being removed by Rapid Spin users, while Defiant Pokemon such as Pawniard and Purugly can deter Defog. In a similar vein, most offensive Pokemon, including Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Slurpuff, and Tauros, enjoy Spikes's residual damage, which makes it easier for them to sweep, wallbreak, or clean. Finally, as Quilladin is setup fodder for hazard setters, spinners such as Cryogonal and Sandslash can keep your side of the field clear. Cryogonal can also take Ice-type moves and special attacks, while Sandslash sets Stealth Rock, which complements Spikes.

Other Options
########

The combination of Leech Seed and Protect can be used instead of Synthesis as an alternate source of recovery, with Protect being able to scout foes' moves as well. However, using this makes Quilladin unable to beat Vileplume and Ferroseed, which are immune to Leech Seed, though it can still set up on them. Toxic can be used to wear down walls. Rock Slide hits troublesome Fire- and Flying-types, though its coverage is situational.

Checks & Counters
########

**Xatu**: Xatu easily shuts down Quilladin, resisting Wood Hammer courtesy of its Flying typing while bouncing back Spikes and Roar thanks to Magic Bounce.

**Fire-types**: Typhlosion, Pyroar, Magmortar, Flareon, Rapidash, Simisear, and Ninetales can all OHKO Quilladin with their STAB moves. Defensive Camerupt and Torkoal dent it with their STAB moves while taking minimal damage from Wood Hammer, and Torkoal can also spin away Spikes.

**Ice-types**: Cryogonal can threaten Quilladin with its STAB moves while also spinning away Spikes. Jynx, Rotom-F, Articuno, and Glaceon can outspeed and easily OHKO Quilladin with their STAB moves. Articuno also resists Wood Hammer. However, Jynx and Cryogonal can't switch in because Wood Hammer OHKOes them after Stealth Rock damage, and without Life Orb, Jynx requires prior damage to KO Quilladin.

**Flying-types**: Swellow, Dodrio, and Archeops can 2HKO a healthy Quilladin with their STAB Flying-type moves, though Archeops cannot switch in very easily because Wood Hammer causes it to fall into Defeatist range. Vivillon and Swanna threaten to OHKO Quilladin with STAB Hurricane; additionally, the former 4x resists Wood Hammer, while the latter can Defog away Quilladin's Spikes. Chatot and Rotom-S can 2HKO Quilladin with their respective STAB moves. Defensive Pelipper can 2HKO Quilladin with Air Slash after Stealth Rock and proceed to Defog away its Spikes.

**Special Attackers**: Because of Quilladin's horrendous Special Defense, many special attackers, such as Mesprit, Xatu, and Slurpuff, can deal a lot of damage to it with their Fire-type coverage moves. After Shell Smash, Gorebyss can OHKO Quilladin with Ice Beam, and Ludicolo and Samurott can finish a weakened Quilladin with Ice Beam, but Gorebyss and Samurott dislike Wood Hammer. Accelgor threatens it with Bug Buzz and can take Wood Hammers thanks to its Grass resistance.

**Bouffalant**: Bouffalant can switch into Wood Hammer thanks to Sap Sipper and proceed to deal massive damage with Megahorn, with Choice Band variants OHKOing Quilladin.

**Status**: Toxic and Will-O-Wisp make Quilladin's job much harder. The former puts it on a timer, while the latter does the same and also forces it to use Roar or switch out because anything can set up on a weakened Wood Hammer.

**Knock Off**: Although Quilladin can tank even STAB Knock Offs, much of its bulk comes from its item, Eviolite; as such, Knock Off is detrimental to Quilladin.

Overview
########

Quilladin has a number of things that make it viable in the NU metagame, such as its great physical bulk and access to Spikes. Due to this fact, it can check / wall many physical attackers like Feraligatr, Kangaskhan, Klingklang and figthing types in the tier. It's unique ability Bullet Proof let's it set up on the most threatening wall's in the tier , Vileplume and Ferroseed. Quilladin has access to reliable recovery and phazing, giving it an advantage over its rival Ferroseed. To the downside it has poor special bulk and weak to most of the common special attackers. Quilladin lacks offensive pressure and is a set up bait without Roar. It faces tough competition from other grass walls such as Tangela, Ferroseed, Vileplume and Spikers such as Accelgor, Omastar, Crustle, as they perform their respective roles better and is over shadowed by them.

Hazard Setter
########
name: Hazard Setter
move 1: Spikes
move 2: Wood Hammer
move 3: Synthesis
move 4: Roar
ability: Bulletproof
item: Eviolite
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
nature: Impish

Moves
========
• Spikes is the essence of this set, which does decent amount of damage, to the opponents pokemon upon switching in, making it easier for the sweepers to clean.
• Wood Hammer is its STAB, which does decent amount of damage to neutral hits taking minimal recoil.
• Synthesis recovers the active and recoil damage taken, making it reliable spiker and increasing its longetivity.
• Roar is the phazing move, not making it a set-up bait and is very useful in spike’s stalling.
Set Details
========
• HP and defense EV's maximizes its physical defense letting it survive at least one Brave Bird / Acrobatics from Swellow and Archeops and tank hits from the likes of Kangaskhan, Klingklang, Hariyama efficiently.
• Eviolite boost's its defenses by 50%, increasing its overall bulk to a large extent.
• With Bulletproof it is immune to all ball and bomb moves like Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, Weather Ball, Focus Blast.
Usage Tips
========
• Even though it can tank Knock Off, try to avoid getting knocked off to keep his capabilities intact.
• Quilladin sets up Spikes on resisted physical attackers such as Feraligatr, Rhydon, Golem, Golurk, and other weak physical attackers.
• Can be used throughout the game to set up hazards more than one time and simultaneously check all physical attackers it is not weak to.
• Most notable for switching into defensive Vileplume, taking negligible damage from its attacks and getting a free turn to set up. But beware of the occasional Hidden Power fire.
• Appreciates Wish support and likes to be at full health.
• Works well in balanced and stall teams.

Team Options
========
• Pokemon such as Seismitoad, Dragalge, Assault Vest Hariyama, Camerupt, Poliwrath which take on fire attacks well make good team mates.
• Rhydon, Golem, Steelix make good teammates as they take on Flying attacks for Quilladin and set-up Stealth Rock for the team.
• Probopass makes a great partner as it covers Quilladin's ice and flying weakness and inturn it covers its ground and fighting weakness.
• Audino and Lickylicky make good partners as they are good clerics and cover the weak special defense of Quilladin and force switches.
• Spinblockers such as Mismagius, Spiritomb, Golurk, Rotom make good teammates.
• All the sweepers, wallbreakers, cleaners such as Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Slurpuff, Tauros enjoy the residual damage by Spikes as it makes it easy for them to sweep.
• Quilladin is hazard fodder for most spikes stackers, so to keep your side clean, it is advisable to use spinners such as Cryogonal and Sandslash.
Other Options
########
• Leech Seed + Protect, can be used as an alternative source of recovery, and protect can be used to scout opponents moves, but then you lose the ability to beat Vileplume and Ferroseed.
• Taunt can be used on Ferroseed to stop it from setting up along with Quilladin.
• Toxic can be used to wear off bulky walls.
• Body Slam, induces paralysis crippling the opponent and does decent damage.
Checks & Counters
########

**Fire-Types**: Typhlosion, Pyroar, Magmortar, Flareon, Rapidash, Simisear, Ninetales OHKO Quilladin with their STAB moves. Defensive Camerupt and Torkoal dent it with their STABS, while taking very less damage from Wood Hammer.

**Ice-Types**: Cryogonal can threaten a Quilladin with its STAB's, spinning away its Spikes. Jynx, Rotom-Freeze, Articuno, Glaceon can finish off a weakened Quilladin easily with their STABS. It is to be noted that Jynx and Cryogonal can't switch to a Wood Hammer as it OHKO's them after Stealth Rocks.

**Flying-Types**: Swellow, Dodrio and Archeops 2HKO a healthy Quilladin with STAB Brave Bird . Special attackers such as Vivillon, Swanna can threaten to OHKO Quilladin with their STAB Hurricane. Swanna notably defog's its Spikes. Chatot and Rotom-fan 2HKO quilladin with their respective STABS. Defensive Pelliper can 2-3HKO a Quilladin and defog its spikes, taking less damage from wood hammer.

**Special Attackers**: Special attackers such as Mesprit, Xatu, Slurpuff deal a lot of damage with Flamethrower/Heat Wave, Xatu can bounce its Spikes courtesy Magic Guard. Gorebyss and Omastar after Shell Smash OHKO Quilladin with Ice Beam. Ludicolo and Samurott can finish a weakened Quilladin with Ice Beam. Accelgor threatens it with Bug Buzz.

**Bouffalant**: It switches on a Wood Hammer and does massive damage with Megahorn and OHKO's it, if it runs Choice Band.

**Knock Off**: Even though Quilladin can tank a STAB Knockoff, it loses its ability to some extent to wall physical attackers.

You should probably mention Taunt first in OO; out of all its other options, Taunt is the best one. Body Slam is also bad, and if you are going to mention attacking moves, you should probably mention Rock Slide. Rock Slide is situational, but has better uses than Body Slam.

tbh you should maybe talk about Taunt more; Taunt + Spikes + Ground-type resist is quite nice, especially with some Speed EVs to creep some walls like Min Speed Relaxed Seismitoad or like Weezing (trying to think of Stall mons that Quilladin can outspeed with a little bit of Speed EVs). Taunt doesn't really make Quilladin weaker to set up sweepers as iirc, Gatr loses to Wood Hammer, Uxie's subs have 50% chance to break (speaking of which, 56 Atk EVs is necessary to break 188HP/60Def Uxie's Substitute 100% of the time), Klinklang isn't hard to cover with teammates, and Ninetales just OHKO Quilladin so it really shouldn't stay in on that. There's also Xatu, which beats both Taunt and Roar variants. Oh and Taunt helps against Bouffalant :) IK I didn't mention every set up sweepers in NU, but you get the idea.

talking about Xatu made me realise that you didn't have it in C&C, please mention it as Xatu can shutdown Quilladin quite easily.

Mention status in C&C too; toxic and wisp can make Quilladin's job harder (Toxic puts it on a timer, Wisp force it to use Roar more often as anything can set up on a burned Wood Hammer)

now im just rambling, but lol after writing that much about Taunt vs Roar I think it deserves to be in Set Details, but I haven't used Quilladin in a while so I will let the other QCers decide.

1 Word. Omastar.
It's in your intro.

Honestly, for Quill I would usually run full SpD EVs and positive SpD Nature just so it wasn't AS vulnerable. That may just be me though.

Yeah frenzyplant make sure to remove all mentions of Spiritomb and Omastar, as this skeleton was finished before they went to RU.

im fine with Taunt being mentioned in Moves, its pretty cool on Quilladin, and though I find it kinda of hard to fit sometimes (Spikes / Wood Hammer / Synthesis are really important), its an option over Roar on some teams :)

Quilladin also has access to reliable recovery in Synthesis and phazing in Roar, giving it an advantage over its rival, Ferroseed. However, its poor special bulk makes it weak to many common special attackers. Quilladin also lacks offensive presence and is setup bait without Roar. Finally, it faces tough competition from other Grass-type walls, such as Tangela, Ferroseed, and Vileplume, and other Spikes setters, such as Accelgor and Crustle, which perform their respective roles better.

Spikes
########
name: Spikes
move 1: Spikes
move 2: Wood Hammer
move 3: Synthesis
move 4: Roar
ability: Bulletproof
item: Eviolite
evs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
nature: Impish

Moves
========

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Quilladin works well on balanced and stall teams because of the physical bulk and entry hazards it provides. Pokemon such as Seismitoad, Dragalge, Assault Vest Hariyama, Camerupt, and Poliwrath can take Fire-type moves for Quilladin. Rhydon, Golem, and Steelix are good teammates because they can take on Flying-types for Quilladin and also set up Stealth Rock, which complements Quilladin's Spikes. Probopass is a great partner because it covers Quilladin's Ice and Flying weaknesses, while Quilladin covers its Ground weaknesses. Quilladin appreciates Wish support, as it likes to be at full health, and cleric support from special walls such as Audino and Lickilicky helps it with both this issue and its weakness to special moves. Spinblockers such as Mismagius, Golurk, and Rotom prevent Quilladin's Spikes from being removed.

Other Options
########

The combination of Leech Seed and Protect can be used instead of Synthesis as an alternate source of recovery, with Protect being able to scout foes' moves as well, but using this makes Quilladin unable to beat Vileplume and Ferroseed, which are immune to Leech Seed. Toxic can be used to wear down walls. Rock Slide hits troublesome Fire- and Flying-types, though its coverage is situational.

Checks & Counters
########

**Fire-types**: Typhlosion, Pyroar, Magmortar, Flareon, Rapidash, Simisear, and Ninetales can all OHKO Quilladin with their STAB moves. Defensive Camerupt and Torkoal dent it with their STAB moves while taking minimal damage from Wood Hammer.

**Xatu**: Xatu easily shuts down Quilladin, resisting Wood Hammer courtesy of its Flying typing while bouncing back Spikes and Roar thanks to Magic Bounce.

**Ice-types**: Cryogonal can threaten Quilladin with its STAB moves while also spinning away Spikes. Jynx, Rotom-F, Articuno, and Glaceon can outspeed and easily finish a weakened Quilladin with their STAB moves. However, Jynx and Cryogonal can't switch in because Wood Hammer OHKOes them after Stealth Rock damage.

**Flying-types**: Swellow, Dodrio, and Archeops can 2HKO a healthy Quilladin with their STAB Flying-type moves. Vivillon and Swanna threaten to OHKO Quilladin with STAB Hurricane; additionally, (needs this because the stuff that follows hasn't really got anything to do with them OHKOing Quilladin) the former 4x resists Wood Hammer, while the latter can Defog away Quilladin's Spikes.

Xatu can also bounce Quilladin's Spikes back to your side thanks to Magic Guard Bounce. After Shell Smash, Gorebyss can OHKO Quilladin with Ice Beam. Ludicolo and Samurott can finish a weakened Quilladin with Ice Beam. Accelgor threatens it with Bug Buzz.

Set Details
========
Usage Tips
========

========

Banned deucer.
But... i had so many comments! Oh well, here they are anyhow

Raseri plz don't upload w/out looking at this post thx :D

Its unique ability, Bulletproof, lets it set up on the most threatening walls in the tier, Vileplume and Ferroseed, by making it immune to "ball" and "bomb" moves.

Dude, i think you can set up on ferroseed anyhow. Bullet seed does literally 10 hp of damage max roll 5 hits, gyro does more really

Finally, it faces tough competition from other Grass-type walls, such as Tangela, Ferroseed, and Vileplume, and other Spikes setters, such as Accelgor and Crustle, which perform their respective roles better.

Crustle and accelgor aren't really your competition considering they're suicide leads. I'd pull ferroseed from the list of competing walls and slot it in alongside roselia as competing spikers, instead.

Spikes makes it easier for sweepers on your team to clean by dealing decent amounts of damage to Pokemon switching in.

This is a really odd description. It's true that it does this, eventually, but considering all that Spikes do, i think a more general description is in order? Though if you like this one a lot keep it, i guess all roads lead to cleanup sweeps eventually.

Wood Hammer is a STAB move that deals decent amounts of damage even when hitting neutrally; Quilladin takes minimal recoil damage either way.

Not sure what you mean by 'either way'.

A spread of 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 Def can be used so that Wood Hammer always breaks 188 HP / 60 Def Uxie's Substitute.

Might be worth saying "SubCm uxie"? Not sure of that's the main/only ev spread.

Team Options

Quilladin works well on balance and stall teams because of the physical bulk and entry hazards it provides. Pokemon such as Seismitoad, Dragalge, Assault Vest Hariyama, Camerupt, and Poliwrath can take Fire-type moves for Quilladin.

Dragalge/poliwrath/hariyama take bug moves, yama takes ice moves (with frz dry, poli probably not worth mentioning)

Rhydon, Golem, and Steelix are good teammates because they can take on Flying-types for Quilladin and also set up Stealth Rock, which complements Quilladin's Spikes.

Toed can also do this, lix can take bugs. Those two are hard to mention though so feel free not to.

Probopass is a great partner because it covers Quilladin's Ice and Flying weaknesses

Bug

while Quilladin covers its Ground weaknesses

Kinda weird way to describe a 4x weak, w/e.

. Quilladin appreciates Wish support, as it likes to be at full health

Synthesis?

In a similar vein, most offensive Pokemon, including Feraligatr, Typhlosion, Slurpuff, and Tauros, enjoy Spikes's residual damage, which makes it easier for them to sweep, wallbreak, or clean.

How is appreciating the spikes similar to keeping them up. And where's the defiant mention?

Cryo takes ices/special attacks, slash lays rocks.

This whole section could use a lot more of "what quilladin does back", espc. with the walls.

Other Options
########

The combination of Leech Seed and Protect can be used instead of Synthesis as an alternate source of recovery

You mean instead of roar? Also, you can still triple spike on vile and ferro.

Jeez, what a long list, your decision there. Torkoal spins and i bet they do more than just dent it.

**Xatu**: Xatu easily shuts down Quilladin, resisting Wood Hammer courtesy of its Flying typing while bouncing back Spikes and Roar thanks to Magic Bounce.

Why isn't xatu first anyhow? Most of those fire-types can't regenerate or stop spikes. Xatu does all that and a bag of chips (i.e. sets up screens or CM)

Cuno resists wood hammer and has roost. Also, they can all ohko quilladin, or almost always so (jynx has a bit of trouble w/out LO.)

**Flying-types**: Swellow, Dodrio, and Archeops can 2HKO a healthy Quilladin with their STAB Flying-type moves.

Cheops switches in kinda badly
4 Atk Quilladin Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 151-178 (51.8 - 61.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
(151, 153, 154, 156, 157, 160, 162, 163, 165, 166, 169, 171, 172, 174, 175, 178)
herro defeatist

Xatu can also bounce Quilladin's Spikes back to your side thanks to Magic Guard.

Already mentioned

After Shell Smash, Gorebyss can OHKO Quilladin with Ice Beam. Ludicolo and Samurott can finish a weakened Quilladin with Ice Beam.

Gorebyss and samurott dislike wood hammer

Accelgor threatens it with Bug Buzz.
And is k with wood hammer since resist.
