December 5, 2021:
  • In Sword and Shield randomized formats:
    • Levels have been updated to reflect the November 2021 winrates. See the changes here.
    • Noctowl will no longer get three attacks and Roost for its moves.
    • Palossand will always get Shore Up.
  • In BD/SP randomized formats:
    • Several set generation bugs have been fixed.
    • Several movepools have been updated; see the changes here.
  • In Gen 6, Mega Glalie will always have Return.
 
January 2, 2022:
  • A number of movepool changes have been made—see this commit list and this commit.
  • Gen 8 Random Battle and Random Doubles Battle levels were updated based on the December 2021 winrates. See the commit for more information.
  • In Gen 8, Aqua Jet will never be replaced by a Fairy-type STAB move on Azumarill.
  • In Gen 8 Sw/Sh singles, Noctowl no longer has Air Slash.
  • In BD/SP:
    • Breloom now gets Focus Punch.
    • Smeargle will always have a Focus Sash.
    • Pokémon with Fake Out will no longer receive Choice items.
    • The move combinations Roar + Shell Smash and Stealth Rock + Rest + Sleep Talk will no longer appear together unless no other satisfactory move combination can be found by the set generation algorithm.
    • Dynamic Punch will be preferred over Facade on Fighting-type Pokémon with No Guard, such as Machamp.
    • Shaymin-Sky will always have Air Slash.
    • Pokémon with the Sniper ability will always have the Scope Lens item.
    • Ability generation was improved. Namely, Hitmonlee will always have Reckless, and Bibarel will always have Simple.
    • Breloom can now get Focus Punch, but only on sets that also include the move Substitute.
 
February 4, 2022:
  • Gen 8 levels have been updated based on winrates.
  • In Gen 3, Registeel will not get Sleep Talk and Protect.
  • In Gen 7, Mega Glalie will always get Return.
  • In BD/SP:
    • Pokémon with the ability Sniper will now never get Scope Lens.
    • Flygon will not get Defog and Dragon Dance together.
    • Pokémon will no longer get both Defog and Stealth Rock.
    • Magcargo will not get Fire Blast and Lava Plume together.
    • Yanmega will not get Tinted Lens if it has Protect.
 
March 3, 2022:
  • In Gen 8 Sw/Sh:
    • Yveltal will no longer get Dark Pulse.
    • Magearna's level has been matched to Magearna-Original's.
  • In Gen 8 BD/SP:
    • Pokémon with Natural Cure or Rain Dance + Hydration will not get Chesto Berry.
    • Ambipom will only get Switcheroo if it has a Choice Item.
    • Sudowoodo has Explosion, not Self-Destruct.
  • In Gen 7, Politoed gets Ice Beam instead of Hypnosis and Perish Song.
  • In Gen 6, Quagsire always gets Unaware and Recover.
  • In Gen 5, Normal-types with Attack stats greater than 80 will always receive Return if it's in their random-battle movepool.
  • In Gen 3, Skarmory will not get Roar and Sleep Talk on the same set.
 
April 4, 2022:
  • In Gen 4, Castform will be level 100.
  • In Gen 6, Charizard will not get Air Slash and Acrobatics at the same time.
  • In Gen 7, Mega Diancie will always have Moonblast if it has Calm Mind, and Zebstrika will never get Thunderbolt and Wild Charge on the same set.
  • Various movesets were updated; see the commit for details.
 
July 28, 2022:
  • In Gen 8:
    • Togekiss will never have the moveset Air Slash, Aura Sphere, Fire Blast and Roost
    • Braviary will now only have the Bulk Up set.
    • We are working on the best way to improve team generation to prevent having teams too weak to one typing.
    • Rotom formes will appear half as often.
    • Palkia will get Lustrous Orb when it does not qualify for a Choice item.
    • Druddigon will still not get Sheer Force, even though it now gets Gunk Shot.
    • Several movepools have been updated; see the changes here.

Across past months several changes were made to Random Battles:
  • In Gen 3, several movesets were updated; see the commit for more details.
  • In Gen 6 and Gen 7:
    • Mega Rayquaza Clause has been added, in order to Rayquaza to run Dragon Ascent without Mega-evolving.
    • Several movepools have been updated; see the changes here and here.
 
October 26, 2022:
  • Gen 8 levels have been updated based on winrates.
  • In Gen 2:
    • Primeape and Hitmonlee will now be able to get Medidate.
    • Steelix won't get sleep talk and explosion on the same set anymore.
  • In Gen 5, Baton Pass was removed entirely from the format; alongside this removal, several movesets were updated: see the changes here.
  • In Gen 8 Random Doubles:
    • Incineroar will now get Assault Vest.
    • Pheromosa and frail Regenerator Pokemon will no longer get a Sitrus Berry; in cases where they used to get a Sitrus Berry, they will now get a Life Orb.
    • Protect will no longer be generated alongside reliable recovery moves.
    • Muddy Water will not be on sets with Liquidation.
    • Galarian Mr. Mime and Dusclops will no longer appear in Random Doubles.
    • Many movesets have been updated; see the detailed list of changes here and here.
 
December 14, 2022:
The first Gen 9 Random Battle updates were merged, fixing several bugs and changing several sets.

-Life Orb Trailblaze Sylveon was removed
-Battle Bond Greninja was removed
-Flash Fire's distribution was fixed; it now only appears on Heatran and Houndoom.
-Dudunsparce's sets are now consistent between formes
-Toedscruel will no longer get Life Orb
-Glimmora gets Corrosion less now
-Moltres will always get Roost now
-Spidops with no attacks will get Insomnia
-Komala will no longer get Rapid Spin as its only STAB move
-Iron Bundle can now get Freeze Dry + Ice Beam at the same time
-Mold Breaker Hawlucha was removed
-Glimmora can now get Focus Sash
-Booster Energy users, Zacian, and Zamazenta can no longer generate in the lead slot.

Several sets were also changed, visible here
 
December 16:
Another major Gen 9 Random Battle update occurred.

125+ Tera Type pools were changed and several movepools were altered. You can see the changes here.

-Shuca Berry was added on Pincurchin, and Pincurchin will always have Liquidation.
-Added Acrobatics as an option for Hawlucha. This can coincide with Brave Bird.
-Prevented Heavy-Duty Boots Sandy Shocks
-Palafin is now a Bulky Attacker, which replaces Life Orb sets with Leftovers and guarantees Jet Punch.
-Solar Power Tropius will no longer generate on teams with Sun.
-Luvdisc no longer gets Focus Sash
-Shell Side Arm will no longer reduce Slowbro-Galar's Attack
-Breloom will now always get Mach Punch and no longer always get Close Combat
-Black Sludge was removed from the format.

December 17:
A minor Gen 9 Random Battle update occurred, largely focusing on fixing move legality issues.

-Thunder Wave and Yawn can no longer appear on the same set.
Several moves and Tera Types were updated due to legality issues. You can see the changes here.
 
December 17, 2022:
  • Terastallisation has been removed from Challenge Cup 1v1
  • In Gen 1: Ditto is now level 100
  • In Gen 3: Sunflora and Shiftry will no longer run Sunny Day and Solar Beam
  • In Gen 7:
    • Pheromosa will now roll U-turn
    • Several movepools have been updated; see detailed list here.
 
December 19:
Two changes were patched in. I'll go over them one by one.

Update 1:
- Farigiraf will now always be Sap Sipper.
- Hisuian Zoroark will never get Choice Scarf.
- A rare bug has been fixed, and Rotom-Heat will no longer generate Air Balloon.
- Toedscruel will now always get a Grass-type move.
- Arceus-Poison accidentally had too high a level. This was amended.
- Lokix now has a third set: Swords Dance.
- Sunflora is now maybe less garbage.
- Several other minor updates occurred to Tera Types and movepools, visible here.

Update 2:

- Pikachu will now always get Surf
- Annihilape will no longer get Life Orb
- Clear Smog and Toxic cannot be on the same set; this is important for Amoonguss
- Normal-types will always get a Normal-type STAB attack if they can roll Future Sight; this is important for Farigiraf
- Iron Bundle is no longer capable of using Tera Blast
- Farigiraf now has a Future Sight + WishTect set and an AV set.
- Ting-Lu now has a separate set that can run Choice Band or Assault Vest.
- Gholdengo will now always run Make It Rain
- Several other misc. set changes occurred, visible here.
 
December 27, 2022:
-Lucario will now get Inner Focus on the special set.
-Groudon will now always get at least two attacks.
-Palkia and Dialga's Origin formes now hold legal items, and their sets have been changed as such.
-Palkia can now run Choice items.
-Palkia can now run Lustrous Orb.
-Alolan Raichu will now always run a Psychic move.
-Stone Axe counts as having a Stealth Rock user and will prevent future Pokemon from generating Stealth Rock.
-Oinkologne can now run a Liechi Berry sometimes.
-Charizard will no longer get Solar Power on physical sets.
-Spiritomb now always runs Pressure on its Bulky Setup set.
-Sunflora now always runs Chlorophyll.
-Several minor set updates visible here.

December 30, 2022:
-Nuzzle will no longer generate a Life Orb
-Raichu in general has obtained several reworks; it now always gets Water or Grass Tera with the accompanying coverage move, it can now run Heavy-Duty Boots and Assault Vest in addition to its other items, and it runs Life Orb generally less often.
-Spidops and Kricketune will now get a Focus Sash in the lead slot
-Articuno will always get Pressure now.
-Several other set updates visible here.
 
December 30, 2022:
  • In Gen 1, Pokémons with Substitute will now be able to use the move four times without fainting.
  • In Gen 3, Deoxys and Deoxys-Attack will now run White Herb with Psycho-boost sets.
  • In Gen 5:
    • Heracross will now only roll Guts with a Flame Orb.
    • Gliscor will now run Roost.
    • Recovery moves will be guaranteed on support Pokémons
    • Pokémons will no longer get two moves of the same STAB unless it's desirable. See more details of these changes here.
  • Seaking will no longer get Lightning Rods with Rain Dance in Gen6 and Gen7.
 
January 5, 2023:

-Garganacl now has an Assault Vest set because everyone wanted more Salt Cure.
-Cyclizar now has a dedicated Choice Scarf set with better moves, instead of Shift Gear.
-Eviolite will no longer appear on U-turn Scyther
-Life Orb will no longer appear on Court Change Cinderace
-Several other minor changes occurred, visible here.

January 7, 2023:

-As an emergency measure in preparation for Randbats Team Tour, levels for 110ish pokemon were balanced via subjective discussion among the Random Battles room staff. Notably, Scovillain and Zarude lost four levels each. A full list of changes can be seen here. We do not have winrates yet, so this is the best we can do. We apologize.
-Gastrodon will no longer get Tera Ground
-Umbreon will no longer get Calm Mind
-Oricorio's support sets will now always have Defog, although this can result in having multiple Defoggers occasionally. There's nothing we can do about that.
-Hisuian Decidueye now runs Defog.
-We've finally decided that the best change for Delibird is no change at all. It's sticking with Memento and only Memento. Having both Memento and Destiny Bond caused set generation bugs.
 
January 9, 2023:

In Gen 2:
  • Body slam and Shadow ball were removed from Dunsparce's movepool because it actually doesn't learn them.
  • Several movepools have been updated. See detailed list here.
 
January 13, 2023:

  • In Gen 2: Gligar and Sneasel are now able to generate Screech. Tyranitar and Gligar sets have also been improved.
  • In Gen 4:
    • Bibarel will no longer generate Unaware.
    • Dragon pulse and Draco Meteor will no longer appear together on a set.
  • Sigilyph will now be Flame orb instead of Toxic orb in Gen 5 and Gen 6.
  • Altaria will now always generate with Natural cure in Gen 5 and Gen 6.
  • Recovery moves will be guaranteed on several defensive and support Pokémon in Gen 5, 6 and 7.
  • Several movepools have been improved across these three gens. See detailed changes here.
 
January 16, 2023:

  • From Gen 2 to Gen 7: Teams will now have a limitation preventing rolling more than three pokémons weak to the same type. This was already implemented in Gen 8 and Gen 9.
  • In Gen 6: Eruption is now guaranteed on Typhlosion
  • In Gen 6 and Gen 7:
    • Quiver dance will now be guaranteed on pokémons that have it in their movepools and doesn't have Defog, Sticky Web, U-turn, or the possibility of rolling a Choice set.
    • Bug Buzz will now be guaranteed on Butterfree and Venomoth.

January 15, 2023:
-Cetitan now runs a Sheer Force set instead of a Snowscape Slush Rush set. Sheer force code has been refactored to be cleaner and more organized.
-Water/Ground types, in general, no longer require Water STAB. This affects hazards-Whiscash and Gastrodon.
-Leech Seed and Protect will always generate together. Spiky Shield is exempt from this on purpose. This only affects Wo-Chien but may affect more Pokemon in the future.
-Arceus Grass and Bug have had their sets split to one with Recover and one without, with different coverage depending on the set.
-Various minor updates to sets and Tera types, visible here.

January 22, 2023:
-Dudunsparce will not always get Tera STAB, because it doesn't always want shadow ball
-Magearna now has a Shift Gear Weakness Policy Tera Blast user set
-Vespiquen now gets Pressure; Spiritomb now does not
-Forretress, Carbink, and Donphan will no longer get useless Tera types sometimes
-Ice-types will now always get Freeze-Dry.
-Several updates to moves and Tera types, visible here.
