January 22, 2023:

  • In Gen 1, Tangela has been fixed in order to always roll Sleep powder. It can now also get Stun Spore.
  • In Gen 2: Rapid Spin can no longer generate on the same set as Curse. Several movepools have been changed, see details here.
  • In Gen 3: Latias can get a mono-attacking Refresh set, and Aipom can now get Thunder Wave. See other movepool changes here and here.
  • In Gen 5:
    • Reflect and Light Screen now usually generate together.
    • guarantee Icicle Spear on Shell Smash Cloyster.
    • Banette can get a Choice Band set with Trick.
    • Kyogre and Typhlosion can now get Choice Specs as their item.
    • Calm Mind mono-Psychic types shouldn't have Shadow Ball as their only coverage.
    • And some minor set changes you can find in this commit.
  • In Gen 6 and Gen 7: 4 attacks mixed attackers can now generate Expert belt if they have one Dark-type move that is not Sucker punch.
 
January 25, 2023:

In Gen 4:
  • Pikachu with Light Ball has been added to the format.
  • Yanmega will no longer get Protect with Leftovers and Tinted Lens.
  • Farfetch'd will now get a choice item when rolling four attacking moves.
  • Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee will now be able to roll Mach punch.
  • Drapion will now always have a Dark stab.
  • Light Screen and Reflect should now usually appear together, if they are both in a Pokemon's movepool.
  • Wish and Toxic should now be rolled alongside Protect if the Pokémon has both moves in its movepool.
  • Several sets have been updated. See more detail here.
 
January 29, 2023:
- There now exists a list of Pokemon that have their priority move forced, but don't have their usual STAB of that type forced in its place. For example, Breloom always gets Mach Punch, but doesn't always get Close Combat.
-- This list is: Banette, Breloom, Lycanroc-Dusk, Giratina-Origin, Brute Bonnet, Cacturne, Mimikyu, and Scizor.

- Spiritomb will actually always get infiltrator now, for real.
- Dudunsparce will always get Rattled on its Boomburst set.
- Salt Cure now always appears on Bulky Support Garganacl, and Stone Edge does not always appear on it anymore.
- Basculegion (both formes) now always runs a Choice Scarf.
- Magearna was given Shift Gear on its Calm Mind set solely for the reason of "blending in" with the Weakness Policy set, for purposes of unpredictability. This is technically unnecessary but deemed more useful than keeping Agility.
- A few Tera types and sets were changed, visible here.
 
January 30, 2023:

  • In Gen 2: Ditto will now always have metal powder as its item.
  • In Gen 4: many movepools have been updated, see detailed changes here.
As a side note, in Gen 2 to Gen 4, Pokémons can now generate set up moves with fewer attacks if Baton Pass is in the set.
  • In Gen 5:
    • Sceptile is changed to get a more consistent Swords Dance set.
    • Pokemon with 3 Dark attacks will get Black Glasses as their item.
    • Cherrim-Sunshine is removed from the format for real now.
    • Castform is now level 100.
  • In Gen 6 and Gen 7:
    • Pinsir-Mega won't get Close Combat and Earthquake together.
    • Wish/Protect will now usually appear together.
    • Castform is now level 100.

  • In Gen 3:
    • Rolling three physical attacks + Fire blast will now allow Choice Band to be generated

    • Mismagius will now be able to sometimes roll Choice items with Trick
    • Umbreon can now get Wish + Moonlight, but not with Protect
    • Ditto will now get Salac Berry or Sitrus Berry
    • Pidgeot and Fearow will now be able to generate a Life Orb set with Heat Wave
  • In Gen 5:
    • Dugtrio will now have a fixed set with Life Orb
  • In Gen 6:

  • In both Gen 6 and Gen 7:
    • Pokemon with Rock Head/Water Absorb as possible abilities will never get Swift Swim as their ability, unless they have Rain Dance in their set
    • Dustox will no longer get Quiver Dance + U-Turn
    • Slow Pokemon (< 90 base speed) will no longer get Life Orb with Volt Switch

Gen 9 Random Battle:
2/1/2023:
Level balancing occurred based on the win rates that you can see using the "/rwr" command. Pokemon with high win rates got a level drop, and pokemon with low win rates got a level buff, based on January's stats.

2/12/2023
-Revamped most arceus sets
-Removed Tera Blast User Tatsugiri and Sylveon; in their place, Ghost Tera Blast Falinks (which can switch out!) and Ground Tera Blast Florges will now exist.
-New framework exists for the existence of bulkier Tera Blast users. Tera Blast users with a recovery move and 2 attacks will get Leftovers instead of the usual Life Orb. This currently only affects Florges but can affect other Pokemon in the future.
-Wet Tauros can now roll Raging Bull, but its other water moves are incompatible with it.
-Special Toxicroak was removed in an attempt to increase its win rate.
-Moves are shuffled now instead of always generating STABs in slots 1 and 2 both for aesthetic purposes and to improve Camomons Mod.
-Many other set changes.

February 20, 2023:

  • In Gen 4: Persian will get Return instead of Swift on sets without Nasty Plot.
  • In Gen 5:
    • non-choiced Palkia will get Lustrous Orb if it has Draco Meteor or Spacial Rend.
    • Wood Hammer is now enforced on Grass type Pokemons.
  • In Gen 6: Diancie-Mega will always get Moonblast, and Malamar will always get Superpower.
  • In Gen 6 and Gen 7:
    • Gyarados and Mega-Gyarados won't get Substitute unless they also have Dragon Dance.
    • Normal types Pokemons with Fake Out and another Normal type attack will now get Silk Scarf.
  • In Gen 8 BDSP: Jirachi's movepool have been revamped completely. See more detail in this commit.
Additionally, in Gen 4, Gen 6 and Gen 7, Wish/Protect enforcement has been improved. Most Pokemon with Wish and Protect in their movepool won't get Protect without Wish, and Wish will generally appear more often on them.
 
February 19, 2023:

-Iron Valiant now runs a mixed Calm Mind set, and no longer runs Choice Specs
-Hoopa-Unbound now runs a mixed Choice Scarf set, and no longer runs fully special Choice Scarf.
-Enamorus-Therian no longer runs mixed Choice Specs, this was a bug.
-Inteleon will no longer get Sniper.
-Annihilape will no longer get Choice items.
-Scream Tail will no longer get screens, hopefully cutting down on the whole "double screeners" issue.
-Lilligant and Inteleon have new additional Tera Blast types.
-Glaceon can now run Yawn instead of Calm Mind sometimes.
-Minor updates to Tera types of the above Pokemon, visible here.
 
February 26, 2023:

February's monthly win rates (visible via the /rwr command) have been used to balance levels for many Pokemon. Exact level changes are visible by loading the differences in random-sets.


-Defiant Kingambit and Corrosion Glimmora are gone.
-Glimmora will now always have Earth Power
-Electromorphosis will now appear 2/3 of the time on Bellibolt, instead of 1/2.
-Arceus-Steel can now get mono-attacking CM Wisp and pure support 2 attacks wisp sets.
-Monthly level adjustments based on winrates.
-Decidueye-Hisui: -Tera Fighting, now only Tera Steel
-Iron Hands: -Tera Fighting, now only Tera Electric
-Magnezone: -Steel Beam; non-Tera Blast can no longer run Choice Specs
-Passimian: +Earthquake
-Slaking is now a fixed set of two normal moves, Earthquake, and Throat Chop.
-Alolan Raichu's tera types are now Grass/Water/Fighting.
 
3/5:

-Protect users will no longer have Focus Sash.
-Added Sunny Day life Orb Walking Wake.
-removed Raging Bull Wet Tauros because statistics showed it to be unhelpful to its effectiveness
-added Tera Ghost Mewtwo again; this may be temporary.

An effort to reduce the frequency of choice items in the format is being executed. Hopefully some of the changes here will help with the frequency of getting 3+ choiced pokemon in a game. Changes made with this goal in mind are marked with an asterisk (*)


-Volcanion will now get Haze, and therefore Boots. It will not generate Haze with Flame Charge. *
-Iron Thorns and Landorus-Therian will no longer get Focus Sash.
-Iron Leaves will now always get Psyblade on its Swords Dance set (Wild Charge was removed)
-Lokix no longer gets Boots. Instead, the U-turn set gets Silver Powder, while the other sets get Life Orb.
-Slowking, Mesprit, and Dialga no longer get Trick, but can still get Choice items at a lower rate than previously. *
-Mesprit can no longer get both Healing Wish and U-turn on the same set. *
-Choice item Falinks no longer exists. *
-Hisuian Electrode now has Leaf Storm instead of Chloroblast; now, not all sets will have Energy Ball.
-Glastrier does not need Crunch. *
-Hoopa-Unbound was deemed ineffective with Nasty Plot, so its fully special set was removed.
-Tinkaton can now use Encore.
-Physical Lucario now only has Normal tera, which forces all sets to have Extreme Speed.
-Staraptor now only has Fighting tera, which forces all sets to have Close Combat.
-Orichalcum Pulse now counts as having sun, so you will now get sun-synergistic abilities like Chlorophyll on your team with Koraidon when available.
-Physical Mew now always has Swords Dance and no longer runs Choice items or Dragon Dance. It has also gained Leech Life and will always have Close Combat. *
-Bulky Support Mesprit now exists as a second set. *
-Noivern's Fast Support set has become a Tera Steel Bulky Attacker set with no Hurricane; it will now always have Roost on this set and will have Defog more often than before. *
 
3/19:

-Calm Mind Arceus-Fighting was added for additional variety and unpredictability, as well as in an attempt to better its win rate.
-Ice Beam was removed from Magearna to reduce the frequency of Choice items.
-Brambleghast's Tera types now the same across both sets.
-Slaking can now run Tera Ghost.
-Espathra can now run Tera Blast fighting.
-Haxorus can now run Tera Steel, and it gets Iron Head instead of Poison Jab.

3/26:

-Substitute users will always get Soundproof when possible (Hisuian Electrode)
-Garchomp can get Spikes now.
-Farigiraf has gained Tera Normal on its Future Sight WishTect set.
-Cloyster is no longer a Tera Blast user, and instead uses Tera Ground Drill Run.
-Hyper Voice will now always appear on Normal-types that can run it.
-Arboliva now gets Ground Tera as an option to compensate for forced Hyper Voice decreasing the rate of Earth Power.
-Hisuian Zoroark can now also use Tera Fighting, and will get Focus Blast more often.
-Sandy Shocks can now run a Choice item Tera Blast set. It is Tera Flying or Ice.
 
4/1:

Moody was removed from Random Battles. Glalie is now Level 94 with Spikes, Taunt, Disable, Earthquake, and Ice Beam. Scovillain is now level 90 and either runs a Choice item or its usual SubSeed set, but with Chlorophyll.

Hisuian Zoroark is now limited to levels 72-86. Zoroark is now limited to levels 76-94.

4/9: (Big Update)

-Vigoroth will now exist in Random Battles. It is starting at level 88, with Bulk Up, Slack Off, Body Slam, and one of Earthquake or Throat Chop, with Ground or Ghost Tera Types.

-Pokemon prevented from being leads will no longer be less common than other Pokemon who can be leads.
--- Rillaboom can no longer be a lead. Grassy Seed Lead Rillaboom, and, well, every other lead Rillaboom, is no more.

-Teams will no longer have more than two Spikes or Toxic Spikes users, in most scenarios.

-Unless they have setup moves or a Wallbreaker role, Pokemon will now still get Heavy-Duty Boots if the team has hazard removal. No more Air Balloon Coalossal, for instance.

-Setup Sweeper Hisuian Lilligant will now always have Victory Dance. Whoops!

-Tera Blast Magnezone, and by extension Specs Magnezone, will no longer exist.
---Tera Blast Ground/Water Volcarona now exists to make up for it.

-Klawf now has a separate Swords Dance set. It will run Anger Shell only, with Rindo Berry, Passho Berry, Sitrus Berry, or Scope Lens at random as its item. Its previous set will now always be Regenerator and does not have Swords Dance.

-Annihilape's second set is improved. Close Combat has been replaced with Drain Punch, Tera Types now match those of the Rest set, and Gunk Shot and Taunt are new fourth move options.

-Choice Scarf Cyclizar will no longer exist, but the Heavy-Duty Boots set can now sometimes run Knock Off over Taunt. Also, it can now get Steel and Ghost Tera Types.

-Assault Vest Garganacl is being replaced with Salt Cure + Protect Garganacl.


As well as other, smaller changes:
-Swords Dance Swalot: +Tera Grass.
-Electrode: -Light Screen.
-Spidops: -Memento, +U-turn; Insomnia no longer generates.

-Oricorio formes will no longer run Substitute, and their sets were fused so that they will no longer generate as a second Defogger on a team that already has a Defogger. This slightly increases the frequency of Quiver Dance.
-Sheer Force Hisuian Braviary: -Defog, -Tera Flying, +Agility, +Tera Steel/Fairy/Fire
-Tinted Lens Hisuian Braviary: -Tera Flying, +Defog, +Tera Steel/Fairy; Choice Specs and Calm Mind will be slightly less common as a result.

-Level balancing has occurred for gens 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 9.

-Latias and Latios have been retooled to include Soul Dew in generations 3-6.

We have another goal in mind with many of our small changes: increasing how well teams can deal with hazards. Changes made to help with that goal are marked with an asterisk (*).


-Giratina now has a third set; its first set is now Fast Support instead of Bulky Support (no functional change), and the new set is Bulky Support featuring Defog, Dragon Tail, Will-O-Wisp, Shadow Ball, and Rest, without Sleep Talk. This set will run either a Chesto Berry or Leftovers, depending on whether or not it gets Rest.*

Gen 9 Random Battle:
-Bulky Support Garganacl: -Stone Edge, +Iron Defense (in other words, Iron Defense Salt Cure now exists. Iron Defense will never generate alongside Stealth Rock. Curse Stone Edge will still exist. Council decision.)
-Klefki now has a set split. One set has Play Rough and Magnet Rise, while the other has Dazzling Gleam and Foul Play. This fixes the rare bug of getting two fairy moves on Klefki. The Foul Play set will also have Tera Flying as an option. A hotfix shortly after this update prevented Klefki from getting Focus Sash, which this update would've accidentally allowed.
-Azumarill's sets were fused into one; the only functional difference is that now Belly Drum exists 33% of the time instead of 50%.
-Talonflame will now get Gale Wings 33% of the time instead of 66% of the time (its ability rating was lowered).
-Barraskewda: -Liquidation, +Waterfall
-Setup Sweeper Garchomp: -Fire Fang, +Poison Jab
-Articuno and Articuno-Galar: -Air Slash

-Sitrus Berry users will activate their berries in time with Stealth Rock switch-ins in general now, and Regenerator Pokemon will not have their HP lowered to reduce Stealth Rock damage.
-Talonflame will now always have Gale Wings in Doubles.
-Mabosstiff: Role changed to Doubles Wallbreaker; as a result, it no longer gets Choice Scarf.
-Tera Blast Hisuian Zoroark: -Shadow Ball, +Bitter Malice

This update contains the first Gen 9 Random Doubles level balancing patch.

This update also contains the following changes:
-Hisuian Qwilfish is being added at level 86. It will have Crunch, Gunk Shot, Icy Wind, and Toxic Spikes, with Tera Flying. (council decision)
-Spiritomb has gained a set split:
--The pre-existing set but minus Trick Room and Snarl
--Doubles Bulky Attacker, with Foul Play, Trick Room, Snarl, and Will-O-Wisp.

-Altaria has gained a set split:
--The pre-existing set but minus Protect
--Bulky Protect, with Brave Bird, Roost, Protect, and Will-O-Wisp.

-Choice Scarf Gothitelle (and therefore Hypnosis Gothitelle) are being removed entirely in an attempt to salvage its extremely low win rate.

-Talonflame will now always have Tailwind.

Gen 7 Random Battles has been revamped from scratch to use the Gen 9 set generation system. This means that Pokemon can now have split sets and have their items and moves generated based on their assigned role(s).
