Rarely Used (RU) Tier

Yanmega is way too strong in the current metagame in RU, my best way to deal with it is sending in uxie on a safe poke and T-wave and hope yanmega switches in on my uxie. Also Jolly entei outspeeds timid yanmega who can threaten to 0hko with flareblitz, though most players seem to run adamant nature over jolly :/

People run Adamant over Jolly on Flare Blitz Entei because Flare Blitz is an event-only move that comes with the 13th movie shiny beast, and it always comes Adamant, just like the event Suicune is always Relaxed and the event Raikou is always Rash.

^

They run Adamant over Jolly because Flare Blitz and Extreme Speed are Event Moves and they're only legal with an adamant Entei, or else almost everyone would use a Jolly Nature. We're using Adamant not because of choice, but because we have too (well most of us)

Edit: got ninja'd by Mandibuzz

Wait, seriously? I've been using Jolly on the Smogon's Standard RU ladder since it started LOL

There used to be a script that wouldn't let you choose those moves without being Adamant but since the server went down those scripts have vanished. You could be kicked for using a Jolly Espeed Entei if anybody can actually spot it!

^although unless they're a douche, they won't report ad just say "go fix that." It's not like you're using Mewtwo in OU. Also, almost all Yanmega's I see are Modest or have a HP that decreases Speed, so a +Speed natured base 95, like Electivire (who can take one Bug Buzz from non-Specs Mega) will (almost) always outspeed Tinted Lens Yanmega, and Speed Boost variants also rarely OHKO, so they get KO'd in return.

They really need to look at RU more seriously >.>

douche? It really depends. If someone is abusing this flaw to climb up in the ladder i would like him to get kicked, specially if his entei did 40%+ to my blastoise (CB) and outsped my yanmega (Jolly)

I run a Scarf Yanmega with Max Speed. And then I faced a Expert Belt Electivire who somehow was faster. Explain that.

I use a specially bulky mantine to stop yanmega, and it works wonders for me. Dont have any calcs though, but here is my set:
Mantine
Leftovers
HP 252/ SpDef 252/ Spe 4
Calm
Moveset:
Scald
Substitue
Protect
Icebeam

Quick question - What is the official name of this tier? I've been hearing NU all over the place lately since the release of the BW Dex. I know I've asked this question before, but the answer was never clear. Is it RU or NU? If it is NU, does that mean that a RU and a NU will not co-exist this generation? (NU being made up of the lower end of RU's usage and such.)

RU is the official name of this tier. It is below UU and above NU. (When 5th gen NU is made)

Something that is pretty broken in my opinion that is really overlooked: Tauros. With Sheer Force and a Life Orb, coupled with a great base 110 Speed and nice base 100 Attack stat, it becomes a wrecking ball in the lower tiers. There are very few pokes able to not get 2HKO'd by him, and if the opponent doesn't have a Cresselia, physically defensive Munchlax, or Dusknoir, they are just going to be trampled (pun intended).

^ what set would you recommend?

Something like this?

[SET]
name: The Force is Strong in Tauros
move 1: Rock Climb
move 2: Rock Slide
move 3: Earthquake / Bulldoze
move 4: Zen Headbutt / Work Up
item: Life Orb
nature: Jolly
ability: Sheer Force
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

If only Tauros got Body slam or head butt as it's stab instead but they're illegal with Sheer Force.

1. Normally Flamethrower is put over Zen Headbutt/ Work Up so it can beat Ferroseed ad Steelix, but a set like that isn't bad.
2. Rock Climb is more powerful than Body Slam and Headbutt, and Sheer Force negates any reason to use them over Rock Climb. (fixed)

This is the Tauros set I use with pretty solid success.

[SET]
name: Sheerly Awesome
move 1: Rock Climb
move 2: Rock Slide
move 3: Bulldoze
move 4: Flamethrower/Zen Headbutt
nature: Jolly
ability: Sheer Force
evs: 252 Att / 252 Spe / 4 SpA

First three slots are self explanitory, last slot depends on if you have problems with Durant/Ferroseed or Hitmonchan/lee/Gurdurr. One should note that Tauros has a surprisingly fast for this tier, and has one base speed point higher than Durant if you're having problems with him.

Wait I'm a little confused

first of all rock slide headbutt and Bodyslam all get sheer force boost, because the first two flinch and the later has the chance of Paralyze

second, why would I use BodySlam or Headbutt over Rock slide?

I would use it over Rock Climb, simply because of better accuracy as Rock climb has 85% Accuracy while headbutt and Bodyslam are 100% Accurate, although both moves are weaker (Headbutt 70BP, Body Slam 85BP). I'd still use them over rock Climb because of accuracy, it a personal choice. I'd definitely use Body Slam over Rock climb because the power difference is small.

But Body Slam and Headbutt are illegal with Sheer Force so the is null and void.

Btw is flamethrower worth a slot? as Tauros has base 40 SpA and uninvested even combined with the Sheer force boost, is it enough to KO Feeroseed or Steelix?

1. Sorry, meant Rock Climb both times. Derp. But I guess its just another power v. accuracy war.
2. About Flamethrower: just some calcs

All using 252 Atk/ 4 Sp. atk LO Sheer Force Tauros vs. max HP/ 4 def/ max Sp. Def Careful Eviolite Ferroseed, no entry hazards calculated:

Jolly Flamethrower: 38.36-45.21%
Jolly Fire Blast: 47.95-56.16%
Hasty Flamethrower: 43.84-50.68%
Hasty Fire Blast: 53.42-63.01%
Jolly/ Hasty Bulldoze: 17.47- 20. 89%

All using the same Tauros vs Max HP/ 4 def/ max Sp. Def Careful Leftovers Steelix (you don't really see them, but let's pretend you do), no entry hazards calculated:

Jolly Flamethrower: 27.68- 32.77%
Jolly Fire Blast: 34.46- 40.68%
Hasty Flamethrower: 31.07- 36.72%
Hasty Fire Blast: 38.98- 45.76%
Jolly/ Hasty Bulldoze: 22.03- 25.99%

So, as you can see, Flamethrower/ Fire Blast is definately viable, although lets just add Steelix to the list of things that can tank Tauros if its not running Fire Blast.

Ran some damage calcs,

0 SpAtk Life Orb Tauros Flamethrower vs.

4 HP/0 SpDef Durant: 141.09% - 165.89%
252 HP/252 SpDef Durant: 77.5% - 92.5%
252 HP/252 SpDef Eviolite Ferroseed: 41.1% - 49.320%

Those are the only two notable targets of Flamethrower. Max HP and SpDef Ferroseed is always a 3HKO, but I guess you can always run Fire Blast if you really want the 2HKO.

Well I wouldn't want to carry Fireblast to check Ferroseed because there'e a high chance it's carrying t-wave to paralyze my Tauros but yeah Steelix is a tank. I'd like to see the damage difference between Earthquake and Fireblast.
