Reikai's RMT - [Standard, OU] - Update 1

Well, I should start out saying that I have not been "in the loop" for about a year. I stopped Diamond/Pearl just as Specs Mence was becoming popular... so... that should give you an idea about how long I've been out of the meta. That said, with the advent of Platinum, I have once again come back into the game...

I basically need all-around help with my team atm... It feels a bit shakey, and definitely not "up to snuff" with the current Meta...

Note: I understand that in this post, it states not to "suggest anything regarding Pokemon Platinum's changes when rating teams." I *WILL* have a few platinum-based moves on my team (as I'm playing on platinum atm...) but, please leave any changes to those available in D/P please... as to stick with the rules =P.

At a glance

1.) Lead
dpmfa482.png

Azelf @ Choice Scarf
Timid / Levitate
4 HP / 252 Sp. A / 252 Speed
- Psychic
- Signal Beam[Platinum]/Grass Knot
- Flame Thrower
- Trick[Platinum]

Psychic for STAB, Signal Bream [addition in Plat] is for Dark Types, Flame Thrower for Steels. The main dilemma here lies between Signal Beam vs Grass Knot. Also, Choice Scarf on this Azelf is not meant to be permanent, and is to be "Tricked" off.

2.) Special Sweeper
dpmfa094.png

Gengar @ Life Orb
Timid / Levitate
4 HP / 252 Sp. Attack / 252 Speed
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Destiny Bond

Pretty standard Gengar. However, with the addition of Destiny Bond over Hypnosis. Personally I find Hypnosis too risky, especially on a glass-cannon sweeper like Gengar. Hence, I predict when Gengar is going to drop, and Destiny Bond in order to bring another down with me.

3.) Revenge
/True Scarfer
dpmfa448.png

Lucario @ Choice Scarf
Adamant / Inner Focus
4 HP / 252 Attack / 252 Speed
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch[Platinum]
- Crunch

As opposed to Azelf's Trick-scarf, Lucario is meant to actually make use of it's Choice Scarf. The main use of Lucario is as a Revenge Killer, and generally as a "surprise" with it's Choice Scarf. Unfortunately, Lucario lacks Pursuit...

4.) Physical Sweeper
/Late Game Sweeper
dpmfa373.png

Salamence @ Life Orb
Adamant / Intimidate
120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Fang
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance

Dragon Dance Salamence. Ideally used for middle-late game sweeping. It can come in on a predicted earthquake, or fighting attack that might be targeting Lucario, or even Blissey.

5.) Staller 1/Semi-Physical Wall
dpmfa477.png

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Impish / Pressure
252 HP / 178 Defense / 52 Sp. Defense / 28 Speed
- Nightshade
- Will-o-Wisp
- Confuse Ray
- Pain Split

A wall that I ran with quite a bit of success in the early metagame of D/P. The main "goal" of this Dusknoir is to stall. First throw up Confuse Ray, and follow up with Will-o-Wisp. I know that Will-o-wisp cuts physical damage in half, and that is counter-productive with Confuse. However, the main "goal" of this build is basically to reduce as much damage done to you as possible, and just slowly, but surely degen the opponent to death. If heracross comes out, Salamence and Lucario can easily come in and cover for Dusknoir.

6.) Staller 2
/Sleep-Soaker and Support.
dpffb350.png

Milotic@ Leftovers
Bold / Marvel Scale
124 HP / 252 Def / 132 SpA
- Surf
- Hypnosis
- Ice Beam
- Recover

Milotic functions as both my sleep-soaker, and sleep inducer... Not exactly the best sleep soaker in the game but, it works. I'm relying on Marvel Scale to pull me through though... of course...

Here's the thing

Your team does not work together at all. Sure, you have the typical "roles", but if each role doesn't contribute to the team other than in the very basic way ("Staller" "sleep inducer/absorber" "revenger" "physical sweeper" etc) then it's going be a lot more difficult to pull out a victory considering a team with good synergy *will* execute their strategy.

It really just lacks a strategy really. You don't cover many threats, you get walled by many of them - and you will stay in this mentality as long as you think there is some magic formula for a "well balanced team". This means that most offensive threats *will* rip through your team, while most defensive threats will stop you from doing much. You need a plan to execute - the easiest plan to execute is really to pick a Pokemon of your own and attempt to back it up - like try to see what counters this Pokemon, and see how you can get rid of the counter so your Pokemon can just blaze through.

I really recommend just searching out for a tutor or just battling more. You can get battles a lot faster in Shoddy so I recommend giving it a shot and just toying around with things and ideas. I also recommend you lurk this forum and look at teams and find teams you like and try them out - to try to figure out how DP is played. I also recommend you read Surgo's treatise and the Metagame analysis subforum. But in the end experience is the best - you really need to just play and figure out what works and what doesnt, unless you get a nice enough tutor somewhere.

Have fun, hopefully we'll see you again!

You see, the problem is nobody can rate a Platinum team yet because we are yet to see the Platinum metagame. How do you expect to be given advice on how your team will function in an environment that doesn't even exist yet?
