RMT #2 (OU Single) Somewhat focused around Dragonite I guess...

Well this my second RMT here at Smogon. This team is far from perfect, which is why I'm hoping that you can help me fix it to the best of your ability. So without further ado:

The Team:

infernape.png

Infernape @ Focus Sash
EVs: 48 Atk / 248 SAtk / 212 Spd
Nature: Naive
-Fake Out
Close Combat
-Overheat
-Stealth Rock

Infernape lead is simply fantastic. With "suicide leads" seeming to be all the rage right now, Infernape stops them in their tracks with Fake Out. Now, most of them carry Focus Sash, guarenting that they stick around to do what they need to. Fake Out has priority to damage them, and makes them flinch, meaning they may as well not be carrying a Focus Sash. I'm packing a Focus Sash of my own so I can stick around to set up Stealth Rock. Close Combat and Over heat for mixed STAB. I'm using Overheat because of the sheer power it has over Fire Blast. With only one Special Attack, the -2 stage Special Attack doesn't really bother me. I added an extra for EVs in Speed so I can reach 335, enabling me to outspeed Jolly Garchomp, as well as the other common Sash Infernape leads.

mesprit.png

Mesprit @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Def / 92 SAtk / 96 SDef
Nature: Bold
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt
-Thunder Wave / U-Turn

Mesprit is one of the members of the team who I'm most uncertain of. Its here to stop, Gyarados, Infernape, and Dragons in their tracks. "BoltBeam" grants me excellent coverage, as well as a STAB Psychic. I'm currently running Thunder Wave over U-Turn, but I'm open to suggestions. The 92 SAtk EVs allow me to hit 270 Special Attack, allowing me to kill the common Garchomp without a Yache Berry (Although with the abundance of them this matters little) and 96 SDef EVs makes it possible for me to survive a Nasty Plot Life Orb Flamethrower from a Mixape and a Life Orb Shadow Ball from Timid Gengar.

forretress.png

Forretress @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Nature: Impish
-Earthquake
-Explosion
-Rapid Spin
-Toxic Spikes / Spikes

Forretress acts as my physical wall and spinner. It takes hits rather well and can also lay Toxic Spikes / Spikes to bother the foe, while blowing away theirs. I'm currently running Earthquake over Gyro Ball as I feel it grants me more coverage. Forretress doesn't have reliable recovery move outside of Rest, so Explosion to go out with a bang to inflict a good amount of damage.

swampert.png

Swampert @ Leftovers
EVs: 216 HP / 240 Def / 52 SAtk
Nature: Relaxed
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Protect / Roar
-Surf

Swampert is the second member of the team who I am most uncertain of. I'm runnning the standard Mixpert set. Earthquake and Surf for mixed STAB and Ice Beam to take care of Dragons, among other things. I'm currently debating on what to move for a fourth move. I'm currently running Protect over Roar to scout for moves, although Roar is always handy to help phaze any stat boosts.

deoxyse.png

Deoxys Speed Form @ Expert Belt
EVs: 20 Atk / 252 SAtk / 236 Spd
Nature: Hasty
-Ice Beam
-Psychic
-Superpower
-Thunderbolt

Deoxys is my late game/mixed sweeper, and it fits the role perfectly. While its attacking stats may seem a bit sub par, it has a massive movepool, and can completely obliterate injured or frail Pokemon, and has the Speed to pull it off, as it reaches 500 with 236 Speed EVs, without a Choice Scarf, outspeeding Jolly ScarfChomp and anything slower. I'm running Expert Belt over Life Orb for this reason, (There are probably others, but here is something I came across in a battle against an apposing Deoxys). My opponent was running a Deoxys with max Special Attack, and sent it in against my Vaporeon (156 HP / 252 Def /56 SAtk / 44 SDef, Bold Nature, Vaporeon was already injured.) I did calculations, and knowing I would survive I prepared a Wish to heal myself. I noticed he took recoil, it could have only been from a Life Orb. So I could have just Wished and Protected all day until he took enough recoil so I could finish him off with Surf.(Unfortunately I got struck with paralysis and was unable to do this). My point is that Life Orb recoil is a bitch if they can stall you.

dragonite.png

Dragonite @ Yache Berry
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Nature: Jolly
-Dragon Dance
-Earthquake
-Fire Punch
-Outrage

Dragonite is one of my favorite Pokemon and my favorite Dragon, and fiersome one at that. This the standard Dragon Dancing Dragonite. He can use Dragon Dance and an Outrage with STAB, a combo exclusive to him and Rayquaza, so I thought "Why pass it up?". Fire Punch for Steels who dare try to wall me and Earthquake for coverage. Yache Berry to help with that 4x Ice weakness, ensuring I survive just about any Ice attack while I do what I need to.

Well, that was the team. I appreciate any and all help from anyone and everyone to make this team the best it could be. Thank you for your time.

If I have two moves listed for the same slot (Example: Move / Move) the move I am currently using will be Underlined.

Changes,(If the freaking Edit Option works for me as it has not in the past for some reason.) will be in Bold.

I love Dragonite.

Spikes on Forrey so you can have Thunder Wave on Mespirit. Otherwise all the foes will be posioned so you can't Twave 'em. Also doesn't help Heracross out.

Roar is great on Swampert, especially with spikes up.

I might change Mespirit as it has same moves as Deoxys only with Twave. You also don't want scarfgar running through you. I'd put in Magnezone actually, as it should kill all those steels that resist DDnite's outrage. Also stops Gyara once it sets up, and if you want you can give it Twave.

I feel your pain about the edit button. I found out, if you post your thread early on, then you can edit it to add pokes and stuff. That worked twice for me, and the times I didn't do that, the edit button did not work.

Mind rating my thread?

Thanks for your help. I'd really like to meet someone who doesn't like Dragonite. Its very hard to do. Spikes on Forretress and Roar on Swampert sounds fine, although the Edit is working for me at the moment. I'd be more than happy to change Mesprit, although I don't see how Magnezone can take care of Gyarados since it occasionally packs Earthquake and outspeeds him. Also by getting rid of Mesprit, while I know I mentioned I'm really not feeling it on the team, makes me to vulnerable to Mixape and Gyarados. I'm now going to proceed to look at you're thread.

You could try a Scarf Magnezone? That'll outspeed Magnezone, but won't do all that great on steel other than just make them not switch.

I love Dragonite.

Agree with all of above. Especially the first line (who couldn't?!).

As for Magnezone, I would say in most cases, it has the edge over Gyarados. I find most serpents run Waterfall/Stone Edge, with Ice Fang as a third attack if they don't have taunt. That being said, the Gyarados that do run Earthquake will annihilate Magnezone.
Regardless, Magnezone can be very useful, as Dragonite will love both being teamed up with a steel-killer and the potential paralyse support (hence why Spikes on Forry and Thunder Wave on Mesprit)

first of all you want to tie other ape leads not outspeed them, as the slower ape wins due to close combat defense drops. so dump 4 speed evs somewhere else.

aight, pert isn't really adding anything to the team, so maybe switching him (back) to vaporeon is a good move, seeing as your most defensive pokemon (forry, mesprit, and pert) all don't have recovery, so wish support would be great here. also, toxic over ice beam/hp electric on vappy, since mesprit deals with gyara and chomp well enough while you really want to be hurting those walls that are bound to switch in on vap.

Seems pretty well balanced, just nitpicking T-Wave on Mesprit, Roar on Swampert, and Spikes on Forry. As T-Spikes isn't to reliable.

Twave on Mesprit, Roar on Swampert, and Spikes or Forretress. Toxic Spikes are all the craze but not that effective. It also lets you use Twave. Roar to shuffle through Spikes.

I might get rid of Deoxys for Magnezone, or even Probopass. Steel trapping is a powerful tool. Revenge killing is great, but sometimes overrated. You seem to handle pretty much everything well, so make things easier on Dragonite by eliminating steels.

Well the Edit has been working for me for small posts, but not the whole team. I'm currently using Mesprit with Thunder Wave, Forretress with Spikes, and Swampert with Roar, and its been working great for me. Vaporeon does seem like a decent option for Wish support over Swampert, and you mentioned running Toxic, are you still proposing I run Protect?

This team looks ready to go to me, except I'm still recoiling from the fact that your Stealth Rock user is INFERNAPE O_O. Oh well, someone was bound to come up with that anyway.

I was about to question why Deoxys-E had so much speed, but then you said it outran Scarf-Chomp, so I didn't.

Anyway, good team.

Actually the Infernape lead has been working well for me. I originally saw the idea on Taylor's RMT. Hope he doesn't sue me for using it!

For Vappy over Swampert, it the set depends on what you need. So you automaticly Have

Wish
Surf

The last 2 moves can be Ice Beam/HP Electric/Protect/Toxic (in order of importance). I see a small problem with Bulky Waters once Deo-E is done so HP Electric is the next move. Now the last move is on Prefrence.

Your already using T-Wave, so do you really need another Status. Or do you want Protect so you can scout and let Vappy restore health without taking damage. I see Proctect better here.

So now you have:

Bold
188 HP / 252 Def / 68 SpA

Wish
Surf
HP Electric
Proctect

That sounds good, except for the fact Stathakis suggested Toxic. Also I feel Roar should be squeezed in there as its been working greatly on Swampert. Also now that I'm thinking about it, Dusknoir or Cresselia might be able to do Mesprit's job better. Also if I use Cresselia with Rest Talk I'll be able to deal with status better.

Or you can use a Restalk Spiritomb: Spiritomb@Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EV's: 252 HP, 114 Def, 112 Spdef
Nature: Modest
~Rest ~Sleep Talk
~Shadow Ball ~HP Fighting
Basicly the restalker set on the analysis but not set up bait for the likes of SDChomp/Luke/Ape or cursers like CurseLax/Pert.

That could work..I'll have to try that. Anyways I've been trying Dusknoir over Mespirt, and there really hasn't been too much of a difference in performance other than that I can deal with Deoxys better. But I did come across the fact that I have big problems with Cresselia, espicially the Rest Talk variants. I looked for Counters in the Strategy Dex, but I'm not sure where any of those Pokemon can fit on this team, so any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you everyone!

P.S. I STILL have yet to test Vaporeon, I'll get around to it though and post feedback for more rating.
