RMT for VGC 2010

Well, first post, first RMT. I want to compete in the VGC in Cologne and so I builded a team with an uncommon tactic. I'm open to any change, even to my tactic, if it is a complete failure.

The whole point of my team is to do massive damage in few rounds. The main idea is to attack with Hyper Beam, Giga Impact, ect. while Suicune roars every round a new Pokemon in. This seems risky, but every one has also attacks to protect itself, even without Suicune.

The Leads

Mercurius (Suicune) @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/80 Def/178 SDef
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Protect
- Roar
- Rest
- Brine

Suicune is the roarer of my team. After the other member uses its Hyper attack, Suicune calls a new member for the next Hyper attack. The purpose of Protect and Rest is clear, i think. Brine is a last resort against damaged opponents.

RAYQUAZA (Rayquaza) @ Choice Band
Ability: Air Lock
EVs: 178 HP/252 Atk/80 Spd
Gentle nature (+SDef, -Def)
- Giga Impact
- Extremespeed
- Outrage
- Iron Head

Rayquaza is my physical Sweeper. While Giga Impact isn't STAB, it does ridiculously high damage against everything. Extremespeed is for guaranteed first hits. Outrage is for the last opponent, while Iron Head is for Ice. With Airlock, Rayquaza is also able to break Weather- and TR-Teams.

The Back-Up

Chronos (Dialga) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk/80 Def/178 Spd
Quiet nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Roar Of Time
- Ancientpower
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam

Dialga is my main special Sweeper. With its Steeltype it is invulnerable against Dragon and Ice also inflicts normal damage only. With Ancientpower it demolishes those Icetypes while possibly raising its own stats even more. Earth Power and Ice Beam are for coverage.

Typhlosion (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 178 HP/80 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Blast Burn
- Extrasensory
- Swift?
- Focus Blast?

Typhlosion is one of the elemental Beamers. If HPs are low, it gets another boost for its beam. Extrasensory is for pesky Fighttypes and i was not sure about the other two.

The Fillers

Sceptile (M) @ Shell Bell
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 178 HP/252 SAtk/80 SDef
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Frenzy Plant
- Detect
- Grasswhistle
- Dragon Pulse

Scsptile is besides its Beam more of a mixed bag. Detect for defense, Grasswhistle for annoyance and Dragon Pulse as alternative move. Because of Frenzy Plant, Shell Bell is more useful than Leftovers.

Blastoise (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 80 HP/178 Spd/252 SAtk
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Cannon
- Mud Sport
- Mirror Coat
- Focus Blast?

Blastoise is besides its beam more of a supporter. Mud Sport is a protective move for Blastoise and Suicune. Mirror Coat is for suprising special. And again, i'm unsure of Focus Blast.

I appreciate every rating beforehand! :)

Encore would work better as it means you can continue the use of using hyper beam as it doesn't count the recharging as a move. Research this though as I haven't tested it. There are many fast users of encore take your pick.

It's nice to see original ideas but I do not think this would work as if suicune goes down (which it will easily) then your tactic is ruined. Also, you are restricted to attacking one pokemon at a time which is never a good thing in doubles when pokemon usually carry protect - this is something yours do not.

I see no reason why you aren't carrying a choice scarf as getting in a giga impact or roar of time would be beneficial and how would you combat a fake out? Smeargle can beat this tactic easily, probably single handedly, I am sorry to say D:

If you plan on winning I would reconsider your tactics.

I team one of my friends is bringing consists of weavile smeargle to lead with giratina with haban berry and a choice scarfed kyogre in reserve. It may not be the best but it is a good start to playing in ubers. Consider how you would beat common uber threats like lugia, mewtwo, garchomp, palkia, kyogre, rayquaza, latios, ho-oh and groudon and the uncommon fillers like metagross, ludicolo, kingdra there may even be a scizor or two!

Have fun at the vgc anyway :D I unfortunately can't compete considering my exams are coming up D:

Typhlosion is your only Shedinja counter, and he would use a total of 4 turns to kill one with a focus sash and be able to move again (assuming both blast burns hit)

Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure Air Lock doesn't block Trick Room.

Edit: Also, I didn't see the ancientpower on Dialga. Still, he's choice locked, and if he was locked into another move and couldn't switch out, that leaves you with only blast burn to deal with that damned bug.

That Chesto will be used when you get Dark Voided by Smeargle. Also, double targeting will wreck the entire idea of rest. Roar has no point because there are only four pokemon and you won't use it after (if) you take out the leads.

Rayquaza does not need a choice anything, he might end up stuck using Extremespeed on Giratina and be unable to switch out. Also, air lock doesn't block TR (if only) and outrage targets a random opponent. If you want to keep it, don't use it when a steel type is out. You NEED protect after ditching the choice, or you are incredible explosion weak. If you run into Weavile, Ice shard will beat the crap out of him.

Another choice item on Dialga? Have fun being locked into earth power when Lugia pops in to say hi. Roar of time makes no sense, you have to waste a turn recharging. Try Dragon Pulse and replace Ancient Power with Protect. It also makes no sense to have attack EVs on him if he is your special sweeper.

I can't see Typhlosion being useful at all in VGC, especially without Eruption. Blast Burn is just a no, the accuracy is just too terrible. Swift will do nothing to everything, though Focus Blast would be useful. Life orb will only help him die quicker in a metagame filled with Rain teams. I recommend switching in Heatran if you feel you must use an offensive fire type. Extrasensory also won't do much at all.
I just don't think he's much of a viable option right now.

I won't rate your fillers, but I will say that Sceptile will be too frail and Mud Sport will be a waste of a turn. Ditto with Mirror coat. I suggest switching Blastoise for a standard offensive Kyogre and Sceptile for either another Uber, or something like a tank. Metagross perhaps.

Roar of time makes no sense, you have to waste a turn recharging.

You're missing how his team works. Each Pokémon uses a high attack move that forces recharging (Giga Impact, Roar of Time, Blast Burn) whilst meanwhile Suicune Roars that Pokémon; in effect, negating the recharge turn, and bringing out another Pokémon to do it again.

Though it's an intriguing idea, I don't think it's likely to work well. If your opponent protects with the Pokémon you aim at you've achieved nothing, whilst their other Pokémon is free to do what it wants. Or if they gang up on your "Hyper Beamer," they could kill it and leave Suicune pointlessly Roaring at nothing. I don't think the power of the recharge moves makes up for the fact that your Suicune isn't doing anything offensively at all; you're basically limiting yourself to always using one Pokémon against their two.

Ok, I have never seen a team like this before so I do not know how to effectively rate it, but I will start with suicune. I trust that you did damage calcs to find the best combo of evs. As for the moves, you should not use brine. What if you get stuck fighting a shininja. You should change the last move to one that will be able to hurt everyone if it is the only one left alive. May I suggest air slash because it hits shininja and normal (the only other attacks that suicune can learn that can hit shininja is ghost type). If you really a pokemon that knows giga impact then why not snorlax or slaking. I know slakings ability sucks but it fits right in with your team. I don't know what else to tell you because like I said, this type of team is new to me. All you can do is try it out in battles and see how you do. Good luck

STAB Dragon Pulse will deal more (or as much) damage than STAB Roar of Time over the course of 2 turns.

Not viable.
