Pet Mod Roulettemons [Finished Mod + Now with Random Battles!]

Obvious winner here, Biceon wins this slate. I'll be adding that to the sheet soon, but this is our 40th Pokemon, meaning we only have ten left to go before we have all of the base Pokemon, assuming nothing gets banned.

That's about it! Discussion phase has begun!

Terrosel: Not terribly bulky, not terribly fast, but extremely powerful. Would probably work well on a Sticky Web team. Nasty Plot is enticing, but with 32 Defense and 96 Speed, and no abilities that really help it in either regard, it’s probably better off running Specs or Scarf. It can technically go physical, but Special is far better, with Fishious Rend and maybe Plasma Fists possibly being good on a mixed set. I’m not sure if it’s broken, but it’s probably good.

Chamebuff: An offensive movepool, typing, and name on a Pokemon with defensive stats. Seriously, this thing gets Dragon Dance, V-Create, Thousand Arrows, Clangorus Soul, and Agility, and it can’t use any of them to any real effectiveness. The most notable thing this Pokemon can really do is set up Reflect and then Final Gambit with its 172 Base HP. I suppose you could also run a Calm Mind set, but with no recovery, a lackluster 79 SpA, and viable Special coverage limited to three types (Dragon, Ghost, and Psychic), it’s probably not great. And either way, it’s not interesting.

Ironing: What do I even say about this. It’s insanely good. 171/107/136 bulk on a Steel type, with Full Metal Body as one of its abilities (preventing Fire Lash from lowering your Defense). You have Wish along with hazard control, status removal, ability deactivation, T-Wave, and even constant damage output in the form of Night Shade. You also have niche picks like Heart Swap. And, to top things off, you could run a WishCoil set or CoilRest set along with some very good coverage, and your Attack is decent enough to work with it. Bottom line, this thing is super cool, but probably too strong for this metagame.

Wintalo: Protean is a very good ability, Speed is very high, SpA is very high, coverage is very good. All of those things separate are fine, even some of them together would be fine, but all of them together is a no. Especially not with Parting Shot.

Skeleray: Now this one is interesting, but with how minmaxed it is, I would probably say it’s just a bit much. It’s definitely a good Trick Room Pokemon, with its low Speed, and it gets strong moves such as Dragon Hammer, Shadow Bone, Earthquake/Thousand Arrows, and Anchor Shot. It’s quite bulky and has access to a recovery move. It can quite easily go mixed to take on physical walls like Baloon (it gets Sludge Wave), and it could even run Nasty Plot with a Special priority move in Water Shuriken. None of its abilities are fantastic, but all of them offer something good for it. Mirror Armor is useful for those that lower offenses or defenses to attack, Pastel Veil blocks Toxic and is probably the best of its abilities, and Victory Star gives it a better Dragon Tail. The real kicker for me that pushes this thing over the edge is Speed Swap. Literally its only stat that could be considered poor is its Speed, so being able to just exchange that for a better stat is way too good in my eyes.

With the list of strong Fighting and Ground types we have, plus a Magnet Pulling Fire type, I think Ironing isn't too hard to counter act.

Terrosel is very good, maybe broken. As a Scarfer or a Sticky Web or Conversion sweeper it's slower than Electritar, but it almost doesn't matter due to Terrosel's great Special Defense, immunity to Electric, and Vacuum Wave meme option. It can cover most defensive targets between Earth Power, HP Ice (Lemotic, Ostria, Albatrygon), and Moongeist Beam (Crazefly, Gorilax), so it's not that easy to check. Its offense matchup is unconvincing, but its good bulk on the special side helps it out a lot. So yes, very overwhelming to defensive teams at +2 while not being too bad against offense. It's not as overtly and obviously broken like certain previously rolled Nasty Plot sweepers.

At first I wrote off Chamebuff as "bulky shitmon with no utility or recovery" but with its monolithic special bulk, Pressure, and tendency to use Rest coupled with a relative lack of special setup mons (there is like Hyperoach and Voltecta, that's it) to take advantage of its passivity, and I think we might have something usable. This mon would play by using Rest and Pressure to PP stall opposing mons, while using Calm Mind to steadily remedy its passivity and break through opponents. It can come in on most special attackers, even some who can hit it super effectively, and rest up while wearing down their PP. Defensively it is somewhat redundant with Gorilax, and with it it would hold the distinction of being one of the only (and the best) defensive checks available to the fearsome Chillvark. It is a little unique thanks to CM and Pressure. I don't think it's the worst choice, it seems more likely to be balanced than anything else on this slate, even though it isn't as unique as it could be.

Ironing almost completely invalidates the current defensive Steel-types, Giranium and Anteros. It's bulkier than either, can control hazards and act as a cleric, and can also even pass Wishes. The only real flaw is its reliance on Wish means it struggles to fit all of these options onto one set. It's actually not all that vulnerable to Flamyle, either, since its not doubly weak to fire like Anteros and isn't hurt by Flamyle's coverage (Bonemerang and Jump Kick) as much as Giranium is. Although it's more passive it also has the option of running a weird Coil set too. For reference: 252+ Atk Choice Band Flamyle Blaze Kick vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ironing: 260-308 (47.6 - 56.4%) -- 26.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery. Scarf Flamyle, which looks to be the better set fares even worse, not even 2HKOing a set with no defense investment at all. Sure Ironing can't do much back but it is capable of stalling then chipping with Night Shade or something if it gets a free turn. Overall doesn't seem healthy for the diversity in the meta.

Wintalo is the special version of Manamite from last slate. Or you could also see it as fast but slightly weaker Chillvark. It's fast, has excellent coverage, has great physical bulk for no reason, and can use Parting Shot to pivot out of bad matchups. It also gets Z-Forest's Curse to make you weak to Ice, haha great. Annoying and stupid mon. Seems like it would be overbearing for all playstyles to deal with.

Skeleray is very interesting to me. Dragon and Ghost are two uncommon typings in this meta. By virtue of its typing and ability it is perhaps the most robust Aquazelle counter yet. Although it has a lot of weaknesses most of them aren't very common, and it can serve as a great general check to to special attackers like Koatric, Aquazelle, Electritar, Albatrygon, Eartharoo, Scorpita, and Falcola. Its presence could cause certain attackers to run coverage specifically for it that hits little else in general (Draco Meteor Scorpita, Ice move Gladiaster, Pixilate Stuneleon). All these factors combined with its toxic immunity would make it a stellar defensive Pokemon, capable of going toe to toe with a plethora of offensive (and defensive) threats. It has some definitive weaknesses though, being weak to 5 different types means some threats will often be able to hit it with a coverage move. It's slow as balls and can be revenge killed by even defensive mons, and it is also vulnerable to Pursuit, especially from Ninjoth who forces it into a 50/50. As an offensive mon it seems like a balanced addition. As a Nasty Plot user it's difficult to withstand its hits at +2 due to its great neutral coverage, but it is also very slow and easily revenge killed or Pursuit trapped. Speed Swap seemingly fixes these problems, but then you need to give up Milk Drink which can limit you against breaking defensive teams. One other worry I have about this mon is that it's defensive redundant with Bellena, who checks many of the same things, making its defensive set less unique. This mon has a lot of strong qualities and a few weaknesses which seem like it could balance it out. Typing-wise and as a Nasty Plotter it is very unique but the defensive role it seems to play better seems redundant with Bellena and could be a little too strong.

Tldr:
Terrosel is very good but seems like it could be an unsafe pick, then again we already have arguably broken wallbreakers like Chillvark lol. Could be held in check by its poor physical bulk and slowness
Chamebuff seems like the safest pick and adds some much needed special bulk to the meta, although it is redundant with Gorilax
Ironing is too strong and outclasses already-good mons
Wintalo is fucking stupid
Skeleray brings the most uniqueness to the metagame but could maybe be a little too good at its job, and a little redundant compared to SpDef Bellena

Time for my thoughts...

I guess while still giving us a good amount of Ice-types and Electric-types, we're now getting a ton of Ground-types. Terrosel looks really scary, kinda rips apart bulkier teams after a Nasty Plot boost with Ground STAB + HP Ice + Moongeist Beam. That set loses to Mosqung, but Mosqung most likely wouldn't be doing much back to it and the thing could still run HP Rock if it really wanted to. This possibly could be fine thanks to its low Defense, but its speed actually isn't too bad for what it needs to do, since it's probably going to invest into it to outspeed Gorilax and other fast walls. Against offense its combination of "barely too low" Speed tier and low Defense is very unfortunate for Z-Conversion, but I guess it's an option. I'm not a huge fan of this one.

It's kind of funny that Chamebuff is the first Roulettemons Pokemon to get only one ability, and that ability is one that most legendary Pokemon were stuck with until Hidden Abilities came around...as for the actual Pokemon, I'm not sure. I have a feeling that SubTect sets might not be that bad for this thing but I've literally never used something like that and so I have too little experience to really answer whether that set would be good or not. I'm guessing that maybe some Calm Mind + ResTalk + Kee Berry set might not be bad but I'm honestly not sure there either. I'm just completely lost with this Pokemon I guess.

Also imagine running Scarf Final Gambit with this thing, it'd probably be bad but it sounds super fun.

Ironing seems really dumb, honestly. In order to reliably 2HKO this thing, you need to be correct in which defense stat it's not invested in AND you need to have either STAB or a Choice Item, sometimes both. Just to show how ridiculous this thing's bulk is... a Modest, Life Orb, Max SpAtk Eartharoo only has an 8% chance of 2HKOing SpDef Ironing without factoring in Protect healing extra through Leftovers. If Flamepion has Adamant and Leftovers like I imagine many of its sets would, then it can't really beat Ironing either, only a 12% chance to 2HKO its PhysDef set. These might seem flimsy but these are the more extreme examples of this meta, and I think the only way you can go further is with Chillvark. I don't think you can always set up on this thing either thanks to the Heart Swap and in some cases Thunder Wave, although I know there are sets that wouldn't run that. I honestly like this thing's utility options, but I just wish its HP was like cut in half or something; it looks way too broken.

I don't think Wintalo is healthy. I only think SpDef Gorilax really counters this and it can easily generate momentum off of that and any other possible counters that show up in the future with Parting Shot. Not a fan.

Lastly, Skeleray. Definitely one of the cooler Pokemon we've gotten in the last two slates, really fun typing and abilities. Really nice special bulk and still pretty good physical bulk on top of a Toxic immunity could make it really annoying for overly defensive teams to deal with, especially since its good offensive typing + Nasty Plot + either Water Pledge for Giranium or Sludge Wave for Ostria and Bellena. Question is, though - it's definitely strong against defensive teams, but is it strong enough to be broken? Honestly not entirely sure here either. There's stuff like Baloon and Mega Chillyte that can definitely dent it pretty hard, and it can't beat either of those without taking a massive chunk of damage, and thanks to its low Speed, that would most likely lead to it being forced out. I also agree that it should be compared to Bellena here - their typings let them check similar things, but Skeleray has the better matchup against offensive Poison-types like Toados and Scorpita as well as better special bulk. Bellena has more overall utility and can check offensive Ghost-types like Voltecta and Dark-types like Hyenix and Ninjoth (who also Pursuit traps it).

That's about it! Life has been pretty hectic for me lately so these opinions might not be perfect, as shown by the fact that I'm uncertain with two of the Pokemon and the other three are kind of obvious to me. Voting is going to start tomorrow, most likely.

Alright, so Skeleray wins. Spreadsheet has already been updated.

That's about it! I've been wanting to make more pixel art for this, but I've really been hitting art block. There also might be a tournament on a small, private Discord server that I'm in within the next few months, and if that's the case I'll be sure to mention how that went in terms of how good or popular certain Pokemon are. Other than that, though, discussion phase has begun!

Specyte: I really don’t know what to say about this thing, it’s just undeniably powerful. Really minmaxed with poor defenses but good offensive stats, but it has a relatively fast Strength Sap with a high HP to go by. This thing can easily run mixed Scarf or, if you want to be risky, D-Dance. Also, Volt Tackle and Brave Bird will be taking from its nice and high HP stat, so it’s not worried about putting those on its sets. Overall, it’s probably not a great thing to add to this meta.

Dragotto: This thing is absolutely a powerhouse wallbreaker. 142 Attack with SD and Behemoth Blade for Fairies gives it an edge over pretty much anything slower than it, or if it’s run alongside a good Trick Room user, it can do quite a bit. And faster things that can’t KO it or defensive switch-ins will have to deal with an Analytic boosted attack. It has a glaring weakness in its Special Defense, but its regular Defense is quite high, so it can be run extra defensive with Milk Drink or Soft-Boiled. I’m not sure if it’s too much for the metagame, but we did just add a solid Dragon last slate, so I don’t know.

Steelalo: A Heatproof Grass/Steel with 154 SpA, Seed Flare, Steam Eruption, Volt Switch, Moongeist Beam, Aeroblast, Sludge Bomb, Calm Mind, and technically the power to run Superpower? All on top of enough Speed to be Scarfed and outspeed the whole unscarfed meta? And an HP stat to abuse Final Gambit with? This honestly just seems really good, a bit too good in my eyes.

Vultath: First, Aura Wheel is hard coded to Morpeko and is thus unusable by other mons like Hyperspace Fury, and should be moved to useless moves. Second, NO. This is too powerful and I need not explain why.

Shelking: Oh look, something with a good movepool, decent stats, a good ability, and it isn’t horribly broken! It feels like Dragotto’s spread of stats defensively, but trading high power and defense for better Speed. Its high defense, Diamond Storm, and Strength Sap makes it tough (but not impossible) to kill on the physical side, but on the special side it’s frail. It has a wide variety of powerful moves to choose from, including pivoting with Parting Shot and Endeavor to abuse your low HP stat. All in all, I like this one.

Quick thoughts

Specyte: Probably my favourite pick. It’s a glass cannon that’s tough to switch into thanks to its mixed offenses. Its coverage isn’t that amazing and it would love strong Fighting coverage. Scope Lens + Shadow Claw + Sniper is a cool combo too and lets it cheese past stuff like Brawnkey much easier with a DD set. Pursuit from Ninjoth really holds it in check. One concern is that as a Ghost type with Volt Switch it could compete with Voltecta, but Voltecta has Electric STAB and Focus Blast to distinguish it. Overall not as interesting as it could be but pretty neat, and seems balanced to me.

Dragotto: Great wallbreaker. Excellent coverage with Superpower and Behemoth Blade and Analytic makes it difficult to switch into, even chunking Brawnkey decently well. Its low speed is a letdown as even defensive Pokemon can outspeed it. Spikes is a cool move too that it can use well. The thing with this one is, it would be our fourth Dragon type with high bulk and low speed, and right on the heels of Skeleray too. It also has excellent physical bulk for a defensive set, but we already have a TON of good physically defensive mons, including a physically defensive spikes setter. So yeah there are definite redundancies.

Steelalo: The unholy union of Genesect and Kartana. Pretty stupid mon that shreds even resists with Download + Seed Flare drops. Your only safe switch ins are.... nothing really. Anteros is the closest but it can run HP Fire for that. Flamyle is your only hope, but even then you can’t bring it in recklessly as it might just Volt Switch out. Yeah this mon is busted as hell.

Vultath: Very straightforward mon. Great coverage, obscene stats. I actually think it might be a hair less overwhelming than Steelalo... but not by much. Also broken.

Shelking: Don’t get me wrong, in a vacuum I like this mon. But in the context of the meta it is yet another absurdly physically defensive mon for no reason. It gets a good anti-set up move in Spectral Thief, but we already have such good ways to prevent setup, between Haze Brawnkey, Heart Swap Baloon, Aquatopus in general, and more. You could play this mon offensively, but it doesn’t seem that great at it, with its only average offenses and poor STAB typing, as well as Stealth Rock weakness which sucks for an offensive pivot. And lastly it’s a Grassy Surge mon, but we already have two of those (Chillyte and Toados)! If it had a different surge ability I’d probably be more drawn to it. So yeah, cool mon in a vacuum, but redundant and doesn’t add anything desirable in this context.

For me it’s probably Specyte > Dragotto > Shelking > Vultath > Steelalo, but I might also vote None.

Gonna go ahead and say - voting has begun. I don't really have too much to say about the subs because I haven't really looked at them yet honestly.

Your mon generator was very high when it made this monster.

Thank goodness it doesn't have recovery outside of RestTalk and needs Soul Heart to boost SpAttack.
