That's about it. Since I'm not sure if I've mentioned before, Z-Moves are still legal, since there are things like Hyperoach for example that were voted in based on Z-Move potential. I remember seeing someone ask so I felt like bringing that up. Discussion has now begun, and will likely last until New Year's.

this slate is probably one the first without a real overpowered option

Lemotic is a decent wallbreaker pokemon with potential to become a sweeper. It has a great matchup against many of the Electric types in the meta, but it's typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice types like Chillyte and Gladiaster. It has a very good selection of coverage moves, such as Diamond Storm and Poison Jab. With Rock Polish, it can boost it's below average speed in order to start a sweep. Definitely not overpowered, and a pretty good option. It can also pass fat wishes to it's teammates thanks to it's high HP.

I don't think Magiboon is gonna be that good honestly. It basically has zero physical defense, and a pretty bad Defensive typing doesn't help. It is incredibly powerful on both sides, but the likelihood that it will even be able to break things is slim because of said defense. The only way I can see it being used is with Choice Scarf, due to it's below average Speed. It does have a good movepool, but the stats really drag it down. It is also quite similar to Kinesel.

Shelray doesn't seem too bad. It's best sets would either be a Choice Scarf or a Coil set. The Choice Scarf set helps with it's low speed while being able to dish out strong physical attacks. Coil allows it to set up it's already high stats, though this is risky because it lacks reliable recovery. It's Special Defense leaves a lot to be desired, and pokemon like Electritar can hit it very hard. It also lacks solid abilities. Overall, it seems fine, maybe even a little underpowered.

Terringale is the only option that potentially seems problematic due to Innards Out combined with it's very high HP stat. Outside of that, it's a solid physical attacker that gets destroyed by special ice types.

Venomadillo is interesting bulky pokemon thanks to Intimidate and reliable recovery, along with having a massive attack stat. It's only real problem is its low speed, which leaves it as one of the slowest pokemon in the metagame. It could potentially use No Retreat, but it's low speed prevents it from sweeping with it. Overall, it is a fine option.

Don't want to rub it in for its fans but I'm glad a fast stamina strength sapper was avoided

To make things more efficient I'll go in ascending order of perceived viability (but not necessarily overall preference) for this quality slate:

5) Shelray has well rounded stats, but in consideration of an iffy typing, meh abilities, and a good but not amazing movepool I don't think it would really excel at anything. Would be cool to have another Water type though, and it can kind of do something different from the other two we have with Coil.

4) Lemotic looks great in a lot of ways. Its stats are pretty well optimized, and while it's fairly vulnerable to Ice it's not a dealbreaker here. Squawkerz pointed out its considerable potential as a bulky wish passer and a sweeper. I'd especially take note of its Rock Polish sweeping potential, as Grass/Ground STABs get great coverage aside from Flying, which will for the most part be unhappy to eat a Diamond Storm (and perhaps unable to respond sufficiently when the Defense boost triggers.) One big problem though is that Lemotic's only ability that activates for singles (Perish Body) can be a hindrance in both these roles, so you might be stuck with no useful ability at all for the better sets.

3) Magiboon has some glaring flaws such as a typing lacking widespread usefulness, average speed and pitiful bulk. However, unlike the previous two, its role as an all-out attacker is largely unimpeded. It can run both effective Physical and Special sets, perhaps running something like Zen Headbutt/Poison Jab/Thousand Arrows/Brick Break or Psystrike/Sludge Bomb/Fire Blast/Volt Switch. (Imo the special build seems better at a glance but I'm not really taking into account what its opposition might be). Flash Fire gives it a valuable immunity, allowing it to actually come in safely on something. The mediocre combo of bulk and speed means it may be forced to run Scarf a lot, but with a LO it could be quite a wallbreaker.

2) Terringale seems like a fearsomely capable physical wallbreaker or late game sweeper. It has high speed and an always impeccable stab combo with Brave Bird/Earthquake, Accelerock as a priority option, and some other solid coverage moves. Choice, LO, or Z sets seem like the obvious favorites for terrorizing opponents. Water Absorb makes it so that it can deal with a much wider variety of Pokemon without breaking a sweat. Despite high HP however, even uninvested special attackers using neutral moves will do big damage due to its extremely poor Special Defense. There's also a good chance it can wear itself out with Brave Bird, since it lacks reliable recovery and Drill Peck doesn't do great damage.

1) Venomadillo seems like the standout of the slate. It has an interesting typing, one of the all-time great abilities in Intimidate, and its only glaring issue is its low speed. While No Retreat sets have been mentioned as a possibility with low speed being the issue, I'm not sure it's a problem. With max speed investment and just two No Retreats, Venomadillo is in a solid place for a sweep and is hard to stop from recovering without a Psychic type. Fighting/Poison coverage isn't stellar (especially when Sky Uppercut is the best Fighting stab) but Spectral Thief in the place of Poison stab for this set rounds the coverage nicely and can eliminate said Psychic types. Bulky Venomadillo can also be viable, with great bulk and Intimidate to make switch-ins easy, Leech Seed to be a general pain that even most Grass types can't deal with, and Spectral Thief to prevent and even reverse the setup of non-Normal type opponents.

Just FYI, you can't use No Retreat more than once without switching out, I think. Slack Off is also probably worth mentioning, reliable recovery is always good.
 
lmao that makes way more sense then- I had heard somebody mention the prospect of using No Retreat repeatedly but I probably misunderstood the context

The bulky set is still kinda my preference though, especially thanks to Slack Off, so I'd still be comfortable to call it strongest (or maybe tied for strongest) of the slate
 
Terringale would be amazing even without Innards Out. If only it had some healing to go with its Water/Electric/Ground immunity combo and Landorus/Gliscor typing. As it stands water absorbing ground type status is overshadowed by Innards Out.

A grounded water absorbs when bolt beak/fishous rend start randomizing themselves onto winners will keep people from voting against them when a check like this is sitting right in plain view. Yes, I know it's a bit tin foil hat-ish to want a check for something that doesn't exist yet, but call it a preemtive way to just not write off every mon that has either move as auto bad.

Then again Venomadillo is really cool with an intimidate, No Retreat Slack off combo.

Hard choice.
 
I haven't looked super super hard into most of these Pokemon, but here are my thoughts. My opinions probably could be swayed here on this one.


Lemotic looks really nice, honestly. At first I saw it as a nice bulky Grass-type (Ostria would probably run Protean that doesn't count) and a bulky Ground-type as well. Its stats look really good, and Earthquake/Diamond Storm coverage with the potential to go mixed is very strong. I could reasonably see it running WishTect in its last two slots to make good use of its nice resistances but if not I could see it running Energy Ball for Aquatopus, Brawnkey, and Baloon and I guess either like Shadow Bone or Toxic for Gorilax. I don't think it breaks through Anteros, Glacida, Mega Chillyte, or Gorilax too well, and if it doesn't run Energy Ball it loses to the other usual big physical walls of the meta. Looks perfectly balanced, probably my favorite of the slate because I'd be interested to see what this thing would run if it got put in. Also just for fun I'm posting this calc here - 252+ Atk Lemotic Stone Edge vs. +1 248 HP / 0 Def Mega Chillyte: 98-116 (24.9 - 29.5%) -- Guaranteed 4HKO

I honestly find Magiboon pretty uninteresting minus its typing. Other than that it's kind of a run-of-the-mill mixed wallbreaker to me; great mixed offenses, low bulk, awful Speed tier because it's too fast for Trick Room but too slow to want Scarf in my eyes. Like I imagine it'd hit hard once it got in, but I don't know if its bulk or Speed would give it too many opportunities. I guess it comes in for free on Brawnkey, which is kind of cool. I wouldn't be against this getting in, it doesn't really look broken.

Shelray looks like it would be decent if not for a few unfortunate issues. If not for Komodith I'm sure its best set would be Waterfall/Stone Edge/Coil/Substitute, since that set exploits and beats out any Baloon lacking Heart Swap, and Brawnkey lacking Haze, and any Mega Chillyte lacking Earth Power. I'm not sure what all of those would sets would be optimal, but letting in one of the scariest wallbreakers in the meta for free is not a good thing, so it'd probably need Pyro Ball over Substitute unless its team is very well-prepared for it. The sets I'd expect Baloon and Brawnkey to run both involve status which would make it harder to set up, even if it's not the worst thing since its physical bulk could let it take on stuff like Flamepion easily. It's weak to a lot of common typings though and it's not particularly fast so it could end up being easy to revenge kill. I'm on the boat that it's underpowered, but if this thing was Water/Ground with Earthquake instead then it could've ended up being so much better.

Terringale has Innards Out with an insane base HP and insanely low base SpDef, which makes me not really want to see it. I don't like the mindgames or the pressure this thing has with Innards Out, which basically just ruins the rest of the Pokemon for me.

Lastly, Venomadillo. I'm completely unsure how good No Retreat sets would be since I don't know how easy it would be to revenge kill with its bulk, but there is one thing that pushes that a bit too far for me - do we want a Pokemon that competes so hard defensively with Brawnkey? I can't think of any matchups where Venomadillo does worse than Brawnkey except for like Choice Band Rhinolite, since Spectral Thief and Intimidate help Venomadillo deal with even Earthquake variants of Komodith. On top of this, it has an actual offensive presence and reliable recovery, which leads me to think it would end up being outright better than it, and Brawnkey's already pretty meta-defining. There might be something I'm missing with the comparison that might make Brawnkey have a better Defensive role than Venomadillo, which would leave Venomadillo with its No Retreat set probably still at least being decent, if not really good. Also worth noting that even if it runs No Retreat and plans to sweep in the lategame with it, Venomadillo could still use its defensive perks in the early game and just attack or heal and switch out again if needed.

- Here's Ostria, made by myself. I felt like the two design aspects I used here blended really nice together, and if it wasn't obvious already, those design aspects are ostriches and trees. Pretty simple stuff here, but I like how it turned out.

ah yes Billy the repeat of all the defensive mons with No Retreat and worse typing. No Retreat could have been a saving grace if Focus Blast wasn't its only way of hitting steels. EDIT: it has Stomping Tantrum, so run physical sets. Still seems gimmicky though.

The Sylveon rip-off that outclases Espeon instead. All of it's steel coverage is physical though, so it only seems useful on defense. It also can't recover, but both Heart Swap and Court Change are interesting, so maybe?
Seems decent. Can supply itself with Power Gem/Psychic/Fire Blast/Nasty Plot, or can be a Sand Rush abuser. Mostly one-dimensional, but pretty strong right off the bat. My favorite of these right now.
Alll of its stats are painfully average, and its movepool lacks anything interesting to make that better. Seems the worst off out of all of these. Sacred Fire is nice I guess?
