Matchmaking

All Pokémon are unable to function effectively without their checks and counters gone, which is where their teammates come in. These partners are capable of defeating multiple Pokémon that prove a threat to their teammates, providing invaluable support and making almost undefeatable partnerships. When you nominate a partner you should explain why the Pokémon is a good partner, how can it help the Pokémon in discussion, and talk about the synergy of the core. This project aims to brainstorm various ideal and effective partnerships to many Pokemon which can have the capabilties of being top tier threats.

How it works

Every week, I will nominate a Pokémon for discussion of potential partners and submissions. You will have four to five days to submit a teammate you think complements the Pokémon well. The next two to three days, you and the RU community will vote on your favorite partner for the nominated Pokémon. The winners of each week will have their submissions put in the RU Matchmaking Hall of Fame.

Every cycle, an RU Pokémon will be picked as a subject for members of the community to post teammates they think complement the current Pokémon well.

You can reserve a Pokémon, however if your post isn't completed within 24 hours after the reservation, anyone can take whatever you reserved.

Submission phase will last 4-5 days and voting phase will last 2-3 days, roughly creating a cycle of 1 week.

Metagross is the only Pokémon sitting in S Rank in the current RU Viability Rankings, making it arguably one of the best Pokémon in the tier.
Metagross is a strong wallbreaker with great defensive utility while being able to fit on a plethora of playstyles. It acts as an excellent glue, being able to provide Stealth Rock, a wide vareity of resistances, and a good mere offensive presence.

Virizion is a cute teammate for Metagross as it can check Ground-, Dark- and Water-type attacks for it. Virizion in turn is helped by Metagross as it can help check Psychic-, Fairy-, and Flying-type attacks. Virizion is also benefited by Metagross as Stealth Rock can be imperative when trying to sweep with Swords Dance. Metagross is hugely benefited by Virizions ability to remove bulky waters that want to come in on it.

Toxicroak @ Life Orb

In a similar vein to Virizion, Toxicroak can come in on bulky waters and dark types moves that Metagross invites in and get a free setup opportunity. It is also able to pivot out to Metagross on psychic and flying attacks so it can get up rocks to further help chip the opposing team.

A big problem with using Metagross over a bulkier Steel-type is that it's much easier for Ice-types to muscle past. Hariyama's seeing a lot of use these days in part thanks to that issue; Thick Fat prevents Metagross teams from being horribly weak to Vanilluxe in particular. The Fire resistance certainly doesn't hurt either.

Roserade is an excellent partner for Metagross, as it can help to get rid of bulky water pokémon such as Slowbro, Quagsire, Seismitoad and Milotic and it is also able to help against Tangela as well,
Tangela is a good switchin to Metagross, but Roserade does the trick with its Sludge Bomb to it and Tangela won't dare to stay in on Roserades strong STAB. Same treatment goes to bulky waters
as mentioned above, they don't like taking strong Leaf Storms from Roserade.
Roserade also helps against grass types such as Rotom-Cut as it resists both of its STAB moves very well.
Tho Roserade can't safely switch into Escavalier it can revenge it for Metagross with its strong Hidden Power Fire and does a good chunk to other steel types like Bronzong due to
its ability Technician.
In return Metagross can check Psychic types for Roserade, resists Flying type attacks and furthermore they both pair very well as a Stealth Rocks + Spike stacking offensive core, which helps to wear down the
opposing teams quickly and force them to Spin or Defog more often, as 1 or 2 layers of Spikes can make a huge difference between an OHKO and a 2HKO.

Araquanid is a good offensive partner for Metagross. It naturally checks fire + ground moves, has great special bulk, and in return it becomes a very threatening attacker to anything that doesnt resist water, or a boon to set webs on if it does. Leech life gives wet spider some recovery, too and it will love to leech a grass mon in the tier. 72 SPE evs give araquanid a speed to beat uninvested base 50s, and a creep for mons that sit at 137. 252ATT adamant makes it so that araquanids liquidation is as threatening as possible, and the remaining evs in HP are to maximize bulk. Mons such as hp fire Shaymin, Special Arcanine, houndoom, locked emboar, eq locked flygon, donphan, and a slowbro lacking zap cannon z, all of which metagross is not too fond of, are very unhappy to have an opposing araquanid come into resisted moves and then have the ability to threaten both webs or a KO simultaneously.

On top of that Araquanid can mince one of Metagross's most hated opponents in Bronzong, as it can resist gyro ball, bounce its rocks, or Smash it with a very hard liquidation that does 63.9 - 75.1%.

The 2 together also heavily threaten opposing Registeel's and Diancie's, which are 2 of the tiers premier SPD walls and rock setters. Together Araquanid and Metagross can form a potent offensive hazard setting core that can both early and mid game set the tide of a battle.

Salazzle is a scary wallbreaker due to its access in Nasty Plot along with its great coverage and Speed. Unfortunately, Salazzle's poor bulk and weakness to Stealth Rock restrict its setup opportunities while also being easy to revenge kill. So, what's the best teammate for it?

Mega-Blastoise offers itself as a good teammate for Salazzle as it is able to Rapid-Spin hazards away, which Salazzle doesn't like at all. It also offers itself
as a good bulky water resist, fire resist and furthermore weakens with its Mega Launcher boosted coverage options in Ice beam, Dark Pulse and Aura Sphere
troublesome mons for Salazzle so Salazzle is able to break through the opposing team very easily in the endgame.
Salazzle on the other hand helps Mega-Blastoise with mons like Roserade, Shaymin and Florges, it also can help to get past Virizion, which is a huge threat to Mega-Blastoise
because Salazzle is faster than Virizion and can threaten it out and in that process can set up a Nasty Plot. Salazzle also hits Virizion much harder than Mega-Blastoise does.

In overall this core works pretty well as Mega-Blastoise can keep hazards from the field, which salazzle does not like at all and keep water mons in check with its good bulk and offers itself
as a true fire attack switchin, as Salazzle is too fragile to withstand strong fire attacks. In return Salazzle offers itself as a grass resist and can get past mons Mega-Blastoise has trouble with such as Roserade and Virizion.

Ribombee not only draws in Registeel but can set up sticky web for Salazzle to prevent scarfers from revenge killing during a late game sweep. It also can weaken bulky special defensive mons with its Choice Specs boosted attacks.

Noivern to lure in fairy types like Comfey and Florges and U-turn into Salazzle. It can also ruin walls with switcheroo.

Viriz gives Salazzle a switch-in into Ground- and Rock-types, particularly Rhyperior, Gigalith and Scarf Tyrantrum, as well as a Water check. It also draws in Fairy- and Grass-types for Salazzle to NP on. Stone Edge lets it KO Noivern on the switch after rocks, as well as Dragalge at +2 after rocks and a bit of prior damage, with both being otherwise safe switch-ins to both Viriz and Salazzle.
