Project RU Victim of the Week! Week 16: Arcanine (Sub)

Mantine @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 120 SpD / 136 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Defog
- Scald
- Haze

Mantine is able to tank all of Necrozma's attacks and remove Necrozma's stat changes through haze. It can also use Necrozma as an opportunity to Defog as well as fish for scald burns. If Necrozma is z-psychic you do have to roost on the turn it is used if +1 as otherwise you die to z-Photon Geyser into Photon Geyser.

Just going to address the winners from last week. Firstly, thanks to MrAldo for covering for me being ill and I kind of didn't tell anyone he's the mvp!

Garance spoke to TheWall about an issue in winner points for this week gone and honestly its a ballache to calculate but I did it anyway while ill (feel bad for me). The winner is Garance with 14 points, Sensei Axew with 9 in second and NEON_Voyager in third with 8. The Leaderboard will reflect this when I get around to updating it.

Raikou @ Ghostium Z
Modest Nature
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Spe / 252 SpA
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power Ice

Despite the fact that Raikou is weak to Earth Power, it still can survive one hit being unboosted by CM + it's naturally faster than Necrozma, which means Raikou can kill it with boosted +1 Z-Shadow Ball (possibly) unboosted Necrozma.

I guess everyone understand, what I ment. Have fun)))

BIG ANNOY

cresselia.gif

Cresselia @ Fairium Z
Ability: Levitate
Timid Nature
252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spe

- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Moonlight
- Substitute

Ah man you know Cresselia really is 1 annoying mon. If you've played against the bulky sweeper set then you know it's basically keep your steel mon healthy or lose. This Cress has the ability to come in and counter Necrozma, CM up right along with it, while being bulkier, as well as having an attack that can lower your opponents SPA. The first CM you do alone will probably have your opponent backing off. After Necrozmas initial Inferno Overdrive (which btw +1 overdrive to heat wave still doesn't KO) it just doesn't have an option to get by Cresselia, and the Earth Power set fares much worse as cress can just eat all 8 photon geysers. 60 SPE timid lets you escape being taunted by a mandibuzz that assumes it's faster and gets KOd by Cress instead.

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SpA / 80 SpD
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Tail

Necro barely tickles king whilst king hits hard with scald. Necro can heal with moonlight but regenerator lets king check necro throughout the match. It cant set up with calm mind as king just phazes it with dragon tail.

Calcs

252 SpA Necrozma Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 56-66 (14.2 - 16.7%) -- possible 6HKO

reserving umbreon

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic
- Foul Play

Umbreon recently dropped in the RU Viability Rankings but it still does a great job when it comes to Necrozma. Necrozma wants Umbreon gone first for a multitude of reasons:

  1. it wants Umbreon to be gone because Umbreon has a solid special bulk which gets increased by Wish + Leftovers to guarantee the longevity in this Matchup against Necrozma.
  2. Umbreon has access to Toxic which hinders Necrozmas own longevity in Moonlight and Foul Play which does a solid amount on Necrozma.
  3. Umbreons typing allows it to not get hit by Necrozmas signature move in Photon Geyser / Shattered Psyche thus the only Attacks Necrozma can hit Umbreon with are either Heat Wave or Earth Power.

In overall Necrozma wants this defensive threat in Umbreon being gone before it starts to set-up Calm Minds and Attacks therefore Umbreon is a good counter in the long run even when Necrozma is Z-Heat Wave (Inferno Overdrive)
because Umbreon can also use Protect on the Turn when Necrozma will go for the Z-Move and thus making it that Necrozmas Z-Move is burned up.

Calcs:
252 SpA Necrozma Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 62-73 (15.7 - 18.5%) -- possible 7HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Necrozma Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 58-69 (14.7 - 17.5%) -- possible 8HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+1 252 SpA Necrozma Inferno Overdrive (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 169-199 (42.8 - 50.5%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Necrozma Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 92-109 (23.3 - 27.6%) -- 6.6% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Necrozma Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 87-103 (22 - 26.1%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

+2 252 SpA Necrozma Inferno Overdrive (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 225-265 (57.1 - 67.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Necrozma Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 122-144 (30.9 - 36.5%) -- 68.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+2 252 SpA Necrozma Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 116-137 (29.4 - 34.7%) -- 11.3% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Necrozma Photon Geyser vs. Umbreon: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever

0- Atk Umbreon Foul Play vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 145-172 (43.2 - 51.3%) -- 98% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
Reserving Houndoom

Houndoom @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch/Punishment

Houndoom is a good check to Necrozma. If your opponent has a Firium-Z Heat Wave Necrozma, the party is over for his Pokemon and Houndoom can wall him. You can prepare your team to have a second great check or rk to the Groundium-Z Necrozma.
For the second set, the Goundium-Z one, Houndoom can do his job too. He's faster than Necrozma, so he can threaten him with a Z-Dark Pulse which OHKO after rocks when he's not boosted (and can OHKO without rocks too with luck). If necrozma has a +1 boost, Z-Dark Pulse + Sucker punch kills after rocks, and can also kill without with a high roll on one of the two moves.

If you left the Necrozma put Calm Mind and you play Punishment, three CM for him and your Punishment is a super effective 180 base power attack (Don't forget Houndoom have 90 in Attack). After a punishment, you can easily RK Necrozma (especially when we know that Houndoom is often played with pokemons like Golisopod of Ice Shard Donphan or Roserade).
If you anticipate your opponent, you can put a Nasty Plot facing to Necrozma and Destroy him after with Dark Pulse or the Z-Move. Note that you can take a non-boosted Earth Power from Necrozma.

252 SpA Houndoom Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 232 HP / 0 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 384-454 (97.7 - 115.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
With 3 CM boost :
0- Atk Houndoom Punishment (180 BP) vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 238-280 (60.5 - 71.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
A +2 with Nasty Plot :
+2 252 SpA Houndoom Dark Pulse vs. 232 HP / 0 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 384-454 (97.7 - 115.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Houndoom Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. 232 HP / 0 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 766-904 (194.9 - 230%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Taking a Earth Power from Necrozma :
240+ SpA Necrozma Earth Power vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Houndoom: 254-300 (86.9 - 102.7%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
With 1 CM, Dark Pulse + Sucker punch after rocks :
252 SpA Houndoom Black Hole Eclipse (160 BP) vs. +1 232 HP / 0 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 256-303 (65.1 - 77%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+
0- Atk Houndoom Sucker Punch vs. 232 HP / 0 Def Prism Armor Necrozma: 91-109 (23.1 - 27.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock 23.1 - 27.7%

Mismagius @ Electrium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 8 Def / 248 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

Mismagius is a counter to Bewear due to a multitude of good reasons:
1. of all Mismagius resists both STABs of Bewear as its Ghost-typing allows it to be completly immune to them and 2. of all Mismagius has Levitate so it is able to to come in on the coverage move Earthquake as well.
3. Mismagius in return can set-up Nasty Plot or go behind a Substitute so it can break through teams easily due to its good speed tier and its Z-Move.

Calcs:
248 SpA Mismagius Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bewear: 248-292 (65 - 76.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Counter:

Thanks to his typing its immune to both stabs, normal and fighting, so that bewear can only use earthquake.
Also with +2 attack earthquake is only a 3hitko.
In addition, Palossand can heal himself with shore up + aguav berry,
lay down rocks or even 3HitKo Bewear with Earth Power back.

Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Def / 92 SpA / 56 SpD
Bold Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Sludge Bomb

Tangela CHECKS bewear. Two leaf storms have a chance to kill whilst bewears max damage is 52% on a z breakneck blitz. However at +2 bewear has a chance to ohko. If bewear has blown its z tang counters it so if u can play it well and try to lure the z then tang is fine. If it is already at +2 tang has a chance to heavily dents it leaving it prone to revenge killing. In a 1v1 tang has a VERY good chance to kill bewear.

Rotom can't be touch by Bewear, so it's a great counter. He can defog on him, burn him, and he force Bewear to switch onto another pokemon, which allow Rotom to Volt Switch and give you the switch advantage.

Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

- Leech Seed

Gourgeist-Super is a great counter to Bewear, thanks to it's typing, giving it a immunity to Normal and Fighting STAB and Ground resist.
It can actually literally wall Bewear, thanks to Will-O-Wisp droping its attack and Leech Seed/Synthesis, 2 great healing moves that Gourgeist has.

Actually I really think that gourgeist has a little niche in RU rn, in Balanced/Semi Stall/Stall teams, being able to come on mons like Virizion, Donphan or this Bewear set and this WoW/Leech Seed combo can be hard to deal with sometimes.
