Sample Teams for starting ORAS Doubles (old thread)

I'll give a shot at this shit.

This is standard Kangaskhan offense for ORAS. Basically the team revolves aorund gaining momentum with Lando-T while weakining shit with Sylveon and Aegis, with Tflame providing speed control and extra coverage against grass types, then to kill shit with Kanga and win. Rotom-W is the swiss knife of pokemon, it does everything from being bulky as shit to doing damage and weakening physical attackers, really great mon overall. The only "peculiar" set I run is Tflame's, Goggles is legit good on Tflame as it allows it to switch in Amoonguss' Spore, ignore rage powder and ignore chip damage from hail and sand which only adds up to the BB recoil. I also run Overheat because fuck taking 50% damage from recoil + iron barbs damage from Ferrothorn, it also allows me to make ballsy plays against Aegislash. EVs on Rotom-W OHKO Tflame with Tbolt and survive Solar Beam from Zard-Y, rest is dumped into Defense.

Im on phone so no fancy sprites.

This team is basically just "throw Kangaskhan on a team with five good Pokemon." The team works mostly to support Kangaskhan, but all of the Pokemon are threatening in their own right and losing Kang doesn't mean you lose the game. Keldeo and Bisharp are potent offensive threats in the metagame right now, especially with Thundurus to bring faster Pokemon down to their speed tier. Amoonguss and Thundurus are pretty basic support Pokemon, whose role is to help the other Pokemon avoid taking hits, while also serving as major threats to Rain (which would otherwise be a weak matchup). Landorus-T is the token Intimidate user on the team, and with a Scarf outruns the entire unboosted metagame (aside from +speed base 145 and above, which is almost nothing). Bisharp is notable for its Defiant ability and the strongest Knock Off around, making it an excellent teammate for Kangaskhan.

This team's weakest matchup is probably Sun, considering the general lack of Fire resists. Stone Edge over Rock Slide on Landorus-T and Focus Sash on Bisharp are a couple techs to avoid losing the match, and it's very difficult for Charizard to switch in on many of the Pokemon on the team. Another thing to watch out for, while not really something to prepare for, is losing Thundurus - it's the only Pokemon on the team that Landorus-T can safely lock into Earthquake next to. Fortunately, Mega Kangaskhan and Amoonguss both avoid a 2HKO from Lando-T's Earthquake.

Life Orb Bisharp, Jolly Landorus-T, Rock Slide Landorus-T, Rocky Helmet Amoonguss, and Icy Wind Keldeo are all good choices on the team; I chose the current sets because I believe they are the simplest and best for beginners while not being bad.

Since I'm not tourneying anymore I want to share my team!

This team has an extremely offensive dynamic mainly revolving around Charizard Y and Chandelure killing everything with Heat Wave. Chandelure is great because it can 2HKO many resists in the sun with Heat Wave. Also, it is the best Zard Y counter evah. I like Substitute because it dicks with people protecting out TR turns. I use Focus Blast because I don't like just having Diancie and Hitmontop to deal with Heatran, as many sets are weird af like Shuca Flash Cannon, but you can use Overheat if that floats your boat.

As posted in the cores thread, Sableye partners well with these two because Quash allows Zard and Chandelure to beat cores that rely on Speed/Speed Control no matter what has been thrown around on the field. Sableye also does a lot of work just spamming WoW and Snarl if it is on the field without one of them.

I use Diancie because I love a solid Talonflame answer (Steel Wing does like 60% you mother fuckers and you r shit for using it), and TR gives this team an outstanding matchup vs a lot of the metagame. I put as much bulk as possible because setting TR is a very common wincon for this team.

Hitmontop is a good pivot for this team because it deals with Landorus-T and Terrakion well. If the team I am facing is standard offense, leading Hitmontop + Diancie and setting up TR has been enough to win the game many times. Bullet Punch is mainly to pick some damage off of Mega Diancie or to snipe sashes, but I mainly just Fake Out + Close Combat stuff.

I dont bother to save replays, but the last time I used it was in the circuit against Steel http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogondoubles-216054230. I really should have used it all three games cause it had great matchups against all of the teams he brought, but I wanted to use newer teams to be hipster but o well.

One threat to this team I have encountered is TR Camel, because I have no way to OHKO it and I need Diancie/Sableye to counter TR and they don't switch in very well.

Try out this team it is super fun, and it is a ladder/noob shredder because people don't prepare for Sun Spam enough.

edit: srk1214 doesnt bird need to be jolly to outspeed mega diancie

Sun is a lot more common than rain right now, but by absolutely no means is rain suddenly unviable. This is the team that won me a few seasonals rounds, but I was ousted by pinoy in a match of extreme skill. Politoed is there because you cant have a rain team without politoed!!! Ludicolo is the team's main answer to lando and the spread is from the analysis probably. Raikou is there because on rain teams, its very convenient to have a pokemon capable of outspeeding + ohkoing zard y. If you're against a sun team or something, It's usually a good idea to lead with Raikou for the purpose of volt switching against a zard y and going into toed. Keldeo abuses rain with hydro pump and supports ludicolo against talonflame with quick guard. Rain teams are notoriously weak to bulky grass types, so I added talonflame. Since I already have a quick guard user, this Talonflame has Taunt. When you're against trick room, it's usually a good idea to lead with talon + keldeo, in order to taunt with quick guard support. Or you can run will-o-wisp instead or something if you want. To top off the team, my bulky steel type is Mega Mawile, who can abuse the power decrease of fire type moves to be able to set up SD and spam Sucker Punch.

Also, Stratos, it might be a good idea to say what kind of team it is in the hide tags in addition to the submitter's name. For example, you could say something like "Sun - finally" or "Tailwind Offense - Memoric". Adding explanations for the teams might also be a good idea.

Do you ragequit against finallys sample team? Just wondering since one of the most spammed teams in dubs tournament absolutely destroys this team also raikou is far from an adequate answer to sun since unless it's already in, Zard just wrecks house. I really dislike the idea of a team losing to the common Zard + don core since the point of a sample team has to be a relatively easy to use team (which rain by definition isn't) and matches up well against common teams/archetypes which your team falters in as well since due to absolutely zero speed control, TW and tr just wreck.

[THIS IS A REALLY HELPFUL FORUM, SO I DECIDED TO MAKE THIS ACTIVE AGAIN.]

General Description: This is a very standard Tailwind team that I came up with about a week ago, which is a very easy team for new Doubles players to understand the principles of Tailwind teams. (It is inspired by another team somewhere in the forums)

Team Composition: Of course, for every Tailwind team, there needs to be the Tailwind setters. These roles are well fulfilled by Suicune and Zapdos, which also serve as bulky attackers of the team. Originally, Salamence filled Zapdos' role, but was quite ineffective and gave the team quite the weakness to Bisharp. Also, Zapdos has more coverage than Salamence (through Heat Wave and Hidden Power [Ice]), which makes it a really good replacement for it.
Kangaskhan is one of the strongest abusers of Tailwind and one of the best Pokemon that can support a Tailwind setting through Fake Out. Breloom gives the team a secondary answer to Water types and something to abuse Spore in and out of Tailwind, as well as the priority in Mach Punch. Landorus-T gives the team a bit of Kanga hate through Intimidate as well as something that can get rid of threats such as Terrakion and Charizard-Y. Finally, Aegislash rounds up the team. With quite a particular EV spread, it outspeeds all max Jolly/Timid base 100's in Tailwind. With Substitute, it becomes a better threat in Trick Room.

Team Weaknesses: Thundurus must be the biggest pain for this team, being able to land Prankster assisted Taunts to TW setters and most of the Pokemon, with Kanga-M being the only way to take it out. The team can also get relatively weak to Fairies, so Aegislash becomes a really important answer against them.

How about offering some constructive advice rather than replying to every team posted with an unhelpful, sarcastic comment?
This isn't rmt where you're supposed to try and fix teams. This is a sample team thread where teams that have relatively decent matchups against all archetypes are posted and thus edited into op and thus spammed by tour players and ladder players alike. I'm simply stating WHATS wrong with said teams posted since clearly that's better than doing nothing and some unfortunate player may end up using said team since its in the sample team thread and get fucked by some common threat.

Now to reiterate what you just said, how about offering constructive advice to teams posted rather than making unhelpful comments which you tend to do. If you really want to help then fix up these teams, or better yet if you're a mod Stratos Arcticblast delete the teams that you know aren't good enough to be in the op since they clutter up the thread and might potentially mislead players.

I have a very similar team with Metagross > Aegislash and Hydreigon > Landorus-T, Hydreigon is really good because it shuts down Trick Room which is the biggest problem for WindSpore. Yes Hydreigon DESTROYS Trick Room. Dark Pulse drops every Trick Room setter, and Fire Blast roasts Mega Mawile, it also gets Taunt. I like Metagross with it too because it has amazing coverage and it also has Zen Headbutt which additionally covers Trick Room as Hydreigon is really scared of Conkeldurr on Trick Room. Also, Metagross needs Lum Berry for Rotom-W but its really underrated.

Strangely enough I have a Landorus-T > Hydreigon on my VGC Version of the same team, but in Doubles Tailwind + Choice Scarf is really redundant. It's really hard to not have tailwind up in Doubles with 2 tailwind setters and Zapdos' and Suicune's bulk.

Hey :)
I've been away for a while, and now I struggle with **** firewalls, but I'd like to submit a team to this section. It's an adaptation of "The invicible team" that I RMTed a while back and peaked 1639 in XY. This version works pretty well in ORAS:

  • There are two basic cores: Kangaskhan+Sylveon, and Landog+Rotom-W. Each of these is pretty hard to deal with from the start.
  • Parasect is an alternative to Amoongus. He isn't that less bulky (although Regenerator would be insane), but he can learn both Rage Powder and Wide Guard, giving the team pretty much full protection. He can spam Spore, and is in the same speed tier as Amoongus. I think one can switch with the other of course, but I like Parasect a lot.
  • Thundurus is a Prankster Taunter that can deal insane damage. Electric+Ice is a good offensive coverage.
  • Protect Kangaskhan is a thing, as I find Fake Out too predictable and somewhat a little less useful lately (but maybe I'm wrong, I've been mostly low laddering for a while). Sucker Punch over Ice Punch, as I already have Ice coverage but no Dark coverage. Specs Sylveon might not be the best thing ever, but I like the damage output. I think I could consider a more supportive Sylveon though.
  • The rest is pretty standard.
  • The idea behind this team is to put a big pressure on the opponent from the start, with a big damage output and just enough support to disrupt any linear strategies such as Rain (Thundurus, Parasect, Rotom), Sun (Lando-T, Thundurus), TR (Parasect, Thundurus) or gimmicks.
  • One of the main assets of this team is that it's easily to adapt to one's style, as there are plenty of viable Kan, Lando, Thundurus, and Sylveon sets.
  • It's also pretty easy to use, as it has responses to everything, and two classic and versatile openings.
It's possible that the team is not perfect, but I feel like it's good enough to learn Doubles and easy to adapt to one's tastes afterwards.

I don't really want my Diancie team in sample teams because beating Kangaskhan usually requires getting momentum early (if it sets up, things get hairy) and I'd rather have our sample teams be more or less rock solid against the biggest threat around.

I wouldn't object to RMT Archive though ;)

The team is based around using 2 slow Steels with Substitute and giving them many opportunities to set up to start pressuring the opponent. Heatran and Aegislash are the centerpieces of the team, setting up Substitutes to dominate the game at the correct time. Kangaskhan helps set them up with Fake Out support, Landorus-T pivots and keeps the Subs intact with Intimidate, and Cresselia sets up Trick Room for speed control. The core's weaknesses to Rain and opposing faster Heatran was patched up by using Roost Hydreigon, giving the team a lasting check to both. Using Trick Room on Cresselia makes the team a lot more dangerous for a short period of time, which gives you a huge matchup advantage against faster, offensive teams that can't take repeated hits from Kangaskhan and allows you to start punching holes in bulkier teams with Aegislash. This team takes some of the most simple yet effective mons and puts them together, resulting in a very flexible team with multiple win cons (Cress, Heatran, Aegi) and good matchups against every playstyle.

please sort this thread out before doubs open r1 ;_;
