SPOILERS! Scarlet & Violet Leaks Thread - Data/Mechanics

Of course, I think matching natures to a Pokemon's attributes is nice touch. I personally don't do it (with one exception) beacuse most of my mons are still offered in Gen 7 and so it's really not a practical option atm. Standardization is also much more efficient and helps speed up some of my processes, so that does need to be taken into account. But it certainly does add a nice flare!
You get it. I even have some crazy friends that don't mind bottle capping because they like to go for certain Characteristics. The famous proud of its power Lucario guy was just ahead of his time!

btw one more funny layer to the mirror herb breeding stuff: you can inhert moves from eggs.

Seriosuly, I have a Quaxly egg that I bred Roost on, and Quaquaval with Mirror Herb got Roost from it DESPITE THE EGG NOT EVEN BEING HATCHED.

I can not even imagine the logic behind this beyond "whoops someone at gamefreak messed up".

Maybe eggs really are magical like the daycare folks used to say lol

I'm having gen 2 eggs flashbacks here... how long until you break the game with a glitched egg?

That seems very specific lol. I'm not going to even ask how much it boosts by because I don't see them letting it one-up Iron Fist and give it a built in Protective Pads.

Pretty neat overall though.
The point isn't to one-up iron fist.

You use it on top of iron fist in a pokemon that already uses a lot of punching moves.

Or something like urshifu

That's obviously what comes to mind first, but I see 20% as a pretty hard limit for it, since it'd be strictly better than running Iron Fist if you had another useful Ability.

Interested to try this with Conkeldurr

Did anyone check Iron Fist's description to see if it also blocks contact for punching moves now? Logically I don't think it would but I think it's worth checking.

All this stuff about breeding seems like good changes. Now, it won't be such a hassle to get egg moves and such, particularly on mons that evolve via stuff like Trading.

Overall, I'm pretty excited for these games. Sure the meta will be whack on the Showdown side + there were some weird decisions like removing Set mode (though I do understand the reason for it, since probably 0.001% of players actually used it) but the game does seem like it'll be better in a lot of fronts, like letting you auto-battle while exploring an area, lot of QoL changes like making Bottle Caps work earlier + easier to obtain, a lot of cool new items, a lot of interesting changes to old mons like giving Gallade Sharpness, among other things like Snowscape. Sword and Shield felt rather safe in comparison with its changes and new Pokemon, so I am glad Scarlet and Violet are taking a lot more risk with the new Pokemon and moves, even if they have the potential to break the game in half lol.

Agreed when it comes to IVs where bottle capping is strictly inferior, but I've really come to appreciate the extra level of customization that Mints brought in. I like that I can go for shinies with a nature that I think fits them more than their competitive one -- why should my Volcarona be modest? Why wouldn't my Whimsicott be naughty? etc. This gen you bet my shiny F-Delibird will be Jolly ;)

Unless something has changed from sword and shield, isn't it always optimal to have neutral natures then mint to the correct nature because of the berries like figy berry?

Also, do the size differences amongst same species pokemon affect moves like grass knot and low kick?

I haven't tested this in SV yet to be clear, but yes. In fact in several BSS analyses, we mention that you want a neutral nature on stuff like Trick Mimikyu so it can eat any berry without worry!

so while clipping apart the item sprites for my own curiosity, some observations:
  • All the Legends Arceus items got updated artwork; it's not just using them again or putting a different filter on top
  • While you'd expect the BDSP item art to be used wholesale like the minisprites were, no the art is different as well. It's harder to notice on simpler items like Balls, but it's very noticable on stuff like the berries or healing items.
  • They got rid of almost every weird regional baked good that was just a Full Heal in disguise. Even SWSH kept dragging those around as gifts from the cafes.
  • For the most part, they made sure to just exclude items they didn't need. Anyone who kept track of items up through SWSH knows they usually just kept them around forever, but not here.
  • Despite that, there are some oddballs kicking around
    • Normal Plate, Legend Plate I mentioned before; it still wouldn't surprise me if these get "properly" implemented by the time Home comes out. There's really no reason to include them otherwise.
    • The Gracedia flower is here and as I said before, it's got entirely new artwork. Shaymin's weirdly not present and they didn't include any legendary items they didn't need so...strange. At least with the plates you can just say "they just brought over all the Arceus items just in case"
    • The Pal Park Ball is still here. Do you think they'll ever do anything with this? There's really no reason to keep bringing the sprite and updating it at this point...Like the Legends Arceus balls aren't here so it's clearly not some ID conservation thing going on.
    • Speaking of, all the Apricorns are here though I imagine they go unused. Guessing just brought over with the balls themselves out of I dunno, habit? Just in case? There'll probably be some DLC that uses them again or something.
    • The Incenses are still present even though breeding doesn't require it anymore. They did have a functional use, so maybe they do still happen to be around the region? Something to keep an eye out for I guess.
    • I said "Almost" every regional baked good. There's still 2 left over: Lumiose Galette & Shalour Sable. Kalos Confirmed!
  • The Galarica Cuff & Crown (the Galarian Slowpoke items) are present, but the Twig (the thing that made them) is not. So presumably once Slowpoke-G is ready to go you can just buy/obtain the items already made rather than journeying around to collect the Twigs.

I suspect they MIGHT have Shaymin transferable, despite not being able to obtain it in-game, through one of the DLCs. They did this in SwSh. That's just my guessing though.

I mean, with stuff like Meloetta being transferable from the start they're not against doing that.

Did we mine if shiny charm/oval charm are in the game?

Ik sandwichs boost egg rates, and shiny rates, and ik odds are no one can complete the dex yet lol.. but did we mine the existance of charm yet or does it seem pretty safe to shiny hunt ignoring completing the dex this time?

This is such a steal

Considering the game auctions Premier Balls just like that, I wouldn't be surprised if we could get Apriballs this way too
It says auction...

Does the price actually go up to a big amount? Or do we just buy it pretty much at 2200

If the shiny charm were in game, Wouldn't the shiny charm be one of those items in that sprite list?
