Scizor (Uber Analysis) [GP 2/2]

Fix those changes mentioned and Fireburn already approved it so..

QC APPROVED 2/2

Sorry, but the choice band set only has 456 EVs
200 + 200 +56 = 456

shouldn't the choice band set have more attack EVs? so it can deal more damage to bulkier things such as (too lazy to post names)

Why not run max attack on Scizor? The loss of power is unwanted...

No the loss of power allows for a greater Special Bulk. Thanks to Scizors great typing it resists a lot of common attacking types especially Dragon. So it can switch in quite often. For that it needs as much special bulk as possible. Also since most pokemon in Uber are more Specially bulky,so that much Attack is not needed anyway.

Gyro Ball, despite low PP and being resisted by many Pokemon, ensures that Giratina-O can't set up on you (given Rain) as well as being your best option against Pokemon like Mewtwo and Latias.

Scizor learns Gyro Ball?

Alright, after a monster 6-7 weeks, I have finally got Scizor written up. Sorry it took so long, exams and internal assessments have been really hectic. Time to move to Tyranitar!

Ready for GP checks.

[Overview]

Despite being an OU Pokemon A staple of standard play, Scizor can do the same job perform its OU duties both these changes are somewhat optional almost as well in the Uber tier. With superb typing, decent defenses, a huge base 130 Attack, the ability Technician optional, and an ever-useful physical movepool including a scouting move and strong priority again, optional, Scizor is one of the premier utility Pokemon the Uber metagame. While the new metagame has brought in introduced powerful threats such as Reshiram and Speed Boost Blaziken, Scizor has kept its niche and is still a force to be reckoned with. The most important thing to remember is that while Scizor is a very powerful Pokemon, its niche is still one that aims to support the team, not to sweep itself. However, bear in mind that despite Scizor's power, its main aim is still to support the team, not to sweep by itself.

[SET COMMENTS]

The tried-and-true Choice Band Scizor makes its return to the dangerous waters of the fifth generation BW Uber metagame. With fantastic typing and decent defenses, Scizor can come in multiple times in a match and pull swing / shift the momentum in the your favour favor. U-turn is Scizor's primary, and most threatening attack, and is the reason why Choice Band Scizor is such a threat. When Scizor uses U-turn, . It deals huge amounts of damage to those foes that don't resist it, and then allowing you to switch in the appropriate check to whatever Pokemon the opponent has switched in, keeping keeps the momentum on your side by allowing you a free switch to a check or counter i don't think this much elaboration is needed, but it's your preference. Bullet Punch allows Scizor to revenge kill a number of sweepers, including Darkrai, Shaymin-S, Salamence, Rayquaza, and Garchomp, although the latter three need to be locked into Outrage or substantially weakened. In the third moveslot, Superpower allows Scizor to severely damages varying word choice / sentence structure - if it's not to your taste, replace 'allows' with, say, 'lets' Steel-type switch-ins such as Forretress, Ferrothorn, and most notably, why most notably? if it's considered common knowledge for ubers players, though, feel free to keep it Heatran, Dialga, and Steel Arceus. Pursuit rounds out the set, allows enabling Scizor to checkmate annoying threats such as Deoxys-A, Mewtwo, and Psychic Arceus that lack Will-O-Wisp or a Fire-type move.

The given EV spread allows Scizor to switch in repeatedly to come in on the multitude of Dragon-typed attacks that plague pervade preferential the Uber tier and dent the opponent with its powerful U-turn. A more offensive spread of 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spe can be used to fully abuse Scizor's power, but the loss of longetivity longevity is very noticeable. Bug Bite can be used instead of U-turn for more power, but the latter's general utility that U-turn gives is usually too much to lose good to give up. Brick Break can also replace Superpower if you find the stat drops unappealing, but since Scizor is switching in and out a lot anyway, Superpower is generally the better choice.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Despite Scizor's power, it is possibly one of the easiest Pokemon to counter. Reshiram and Ho-Oh can switch into virtually anything it can do any of its attacks and proceed to smack put huge dents into your team with their powerful STABs. Giratina, with its defenses dragging ad infinitum, laughs at off anything Scizor does to it and can burn it with Will-O-Wisp. Should it catch Scizor Choice-locked into Bullet Punch or Pursuit, Magnezone can trap the metallic bug and destroy it with its a powerful STAB Thunder or Hidden Power Fire. Dialga and Heatran can also switch into any attack not named everything bar preferential Superpower and roast Scizor to a crisp with Flamethrower or Fire Blast. Kyogre is an excellent teammate to Scizor, as it can summon up a rainstorm which decreases to decrease Scizor's lone Fire-type weakness, as well as being and function as an excellent check to Ho-Oh and Giratina. In return, Scizor can easily switch into Grass-type attacks with thanks to its 4x resistance to them. Tyranitar can switch into handle both Dialga and Heatran without much trouble and threaten force them out easily; a Dialga of your own can also switch into Giratina easily, and threatening scare it out with its the threat of a powerful Draco Meteor.

Scizor is also highly susceptible to entry hazards, as it is switching in and out extremely often. Should a layer of optional Spikes and Stealth Rock be up, its U-turning ability will be vastly diminished. Therefore, a lead that prevents the setup of entry hazards is highly recommended when using Scizor. Anti-lead Ghost Arceus is an excellent example, as it can use Magic Coat to reflect any entry hazards; Choice Scarf Shaymin-S and Darkrai are also great examples of leads that prevent setup of entry hazards great options too. Rapid Spinners also help Scizor a long way in its trouble with minimize the damage Scizor takes from entry hazards, although but Tentacruel is the only one that synergizes well with Scizor.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: U-turn / Bug Bite
move 2: Roost
move 3: Bullet Punch
move 4: Pursuit / Brick Break
item: Leftovers / Life Orb / Lum Berry
ability: Technician
nature: Careful / Adamant
evs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

While the previous set utilizes Scizor's mighty Attack stat to gain momentum or revenge- (remove hyphen, add space)kill, this set aims to make it Scizor / the metal bug more durable. With Roost, Scizor can Roost lets Scizor repeatedly switch into dangerous strong attacks such as Choice Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend and comfortably Roost off the damage, while checking such dangerous threats. with U-turn, Scizor can easily steal the momentum from the opposing team, while doing considerable damage in the process. Roost allows Scizor to heal damage that it would be taking while switching into the attacks that it resists. The combination of Bullet Punch and Pursuit lets Scizor can checkmate many frailer sweepers such as Mewtwo and Deoxys-A, (although Mewtwo or "the former" needs to have lost a decent amount of health) with Bullet Punch and Pursuit. Should they stay in, they face a KO from Bullet Punch, while if they switch out, they risk eating Pursuit. Brick Break is another option in the last slot so Scizor has something to hit Steel-types with, which gives Scizor super effective coverage on Steel-types.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

This set can also be used as a decent lead, allowing as Scizor to deals heavy damage to frailer leads such as Deoxys-S and Darkrai. In that situation this case, Bug Bite and Lum Berry can be used for more power and avoiding to avoid sleep, respectively. The other two items and Scizor's nature depends on what Scizor is used for. If Scizor is the team's main Dragon-resist, then Leftovers and Careful may be the item and natyre of choice, since it would allow it to switch in more often on strong Dragon attacks in conjunction with entry hazards. In general, Scizor's choice of item and nature depend on its main use: if Scizor is the team's main Dragon-type resist, then Leftovers should be used with a Careful nature to let Scizor better sponge strong Dragon-type attacks. However, if you require it, Alternatively, Life Orb and an Adamant nature allows Scizor to be a better check to Darkrai and Shaymin-S better by allowing Scizor to by doing more damage to them. It The power boost also allows Scizor to finish off Dragon-types locked into Outrage like, such as Rayquaza and Salamence, more easily.

Again, Scizor finds itself walled by many Pokemon in the Uber metagame. A fine teammate, Tyranitar can be used to comfortably switch into Dialga, and Heatran, and Reshiram without many problems at all and proceed to maim them with Low Kick or Crunch. If Tyranitar is invested in Speed, it With some Speed investment, Tyranitar can even outspeed Giratina and use Taunt to Taunt it, preventing Will-O-Wisp, and then maim it with Crunch or Pursuit. A Dialga of your own also fares well against Giratina. Bulky Kyogre can switch into Ho-Oh, although but watch out for Brave Bird, which will 2HKO. A Dialga of your own can easily switch into Giratina.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Bullet Punch
move 3: Bug Bite / Superpower
move 4: Roost / Superpower
item: Leftovers / Life Orb
ability: Technician
nature: Careful / Adamant
evs: 200 HP / 56 Atk / 252 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Scizor can use its massive Base 130 Attack, access to a powerful priority move and Swords Dance to sweep weakened teams. With its massive base 130 Attack, as well as access to both a powerful priority move and Swords Dance, Scizor has all the tools it needs to sweep weakened teams. With the given set, This variant of Scizor can continue to play its usual role as the team's key Dragon-type resist, but setup also has the capability to set up for a sweep at the given right opportunity. Even with a Careful nature and the given EVs, Scizor can reaches quite an impressive 620 Attack after a Swords Dance, which is more than enough to mop up weakened teams. Bullet Punch is Scizor's main attack, allowing it to clean up opposing teams easily when after its checks are removed. Bug Bite is preferred in the third slot since it is a powerful STAB move, but Superpower can be used to heavily do heavy damage to preferential Steel-types like such as Dialga and Heatran as they switch in. It may also allow Scizor to defeat Skarmory, since the steel bird cannot use Roost, as Scizor is slower and will hit it super effectively. Superpower may also allow Scizor to defeat Skarmory due to the fact that Scizor is slower and will hit the metal bird super effectively if it Roosts.. Roost is preferred in the last slot since it still allows Scizor to tank the moderately powerful Dragon-type attacks, like such as Choice Scarf Palkia's Spacial Rend, and continue switching in and out serves to offset entry hazard damage as well. , but However, Superpower can also be used in the final slot for full coverage.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Again, the choice of item and nature go in pairs Leftovers should be used with a Careful nature and Life Orb with an Adamant one and is dependent the pair you select should hinge on what role you want Scizor to fulfill fulfil. If Scizor is your key Dragon-resist your team is highly dependent on Scizor's Dragon-type resistance, then it is better to run a Careful nature and Leftovers the former pair to increase longetivity Scizor's longevity, while if Dragon-type attacks are less of a problem, then an Adamant nature and Life Orb can be used to increase maximize preferential Scizor's sweeping potential. Lum Berry is also another option for to let Scizor to avoid status. Another EV spread that can be used is 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD with an Adamant nature, but the bulk lost in is significant, and Scizor's main advantage is its decent bulk and great typing, which should always be taken advantage of utilized over more attack power. Scizor also has a few other moves at its disposal: Brick Break can be used in place of Superpower for its ability to break screens, as well as its consistency, although the power loss is huge. Quick Attack can be used if Scizor is running an Adamant nature and a Life Orb., which would allow it to However, other than OHKOing Reshiram after two Stealth Rock switch-ins, but it this move is otherwise quite useless.

The important thing to remember when using Swords Dance Scizor is that it should not be sent out to sweep straight away, because it will usually be countered. Scizor is supposed to be a first and foremost a team supporter, and should only attempt to sweep when the coast is clear. Pokemon who counter it are everywhere in the Uber metagame: Dialga, Heatran, Ho-Oh, Reshiram, Kyogre, Groudon, Giratina, Skarmory, Lugia, and various Arceus forms can all completely wall Scizor. A Dialga of your own can easily deal with opposing Heatran and Giratina. as well as being able to using It can also use Bulk Up to lure in Groudon and Skarmory, then obliterating obliterate them with Draco Meteor or Fire Blast, respectively. Darkrai and Dark Arceus can take on Lugia and Giratina, while Kyogre is excellent at checking Ho-Oh, Heatran, and Reshiram.

[Other Options]

Scizor has access to Baton Pass, in which it could potentially and can pass boosts such as Swords Dance and Agility, but Mew and Shell Smash passers such as Gorebyss are usually better for outclass it in that role. Night Slash can be used to deal extra more damage to Giratina-O, although Scizor is losing most of the time to it anyway but Scizor will usually still lose to it. Scizor can also hold an Iron Plate to power up Bullet Punch and bluff a Choice Band while retaining the freedom to switch moves or avoiding residual damage, as well as bluffing a Choice Band.

[Checks and Counters]

Scizor has so many counters that it is they are almost beyond counting. Giratina is possibly Scizor's greatest counter; with its gargantuan physical Defense, allowing it to can take anything Scizor throws at it, and can burn it the metal bug with Will-O-Wisp. Ho-Oh comes next Next in line is Ho-Oh; taking virtually nothing from Bug Bite, U-turn, or Bullet Punch, allowing it to it can set up a Substitute in Scizor's face and proceed to roast it with Sacred Fire. Similarly, Reshiram is a similar story, who can just use its overpowered Blue Fire to decimate Scizor. Steel-types like Dialga, Steel Arceus, Magnezone, Heatran, Skarmory, and Forretress can switch in comfortably on anything apart from Choice Banded- or Swords Danced-boosted Superpower, and; in fact, the latter two won't even mind Superpower. Magnezone is especially dangerous since it can trap Scizor and KO it, eliminating any comeback chances. Lugia can use a combination of Reflect, Roost, and Whirlwind to ward off Scizor. Groudon and Zekrom will not mind taking attacks from Scizor either, providing provided that they are at decent health, and then can use their powerful STABs to deal a lot of damage in return with their powerful STABs. In short, if you have a high physical Defense and lack a weakness to Scizor's attacks, you are likely to be good Scizor check. feels like fluff to me - what pokemon CAN'T you say this about?

<remove, DW Scizor is released iirc>
[Dream World]

Scizor received Light Metal as its Dream World ability. While it does reduce damage taken by Low Kick (Scizor is taking next to nothing from Grass Knot anyway), Technician outclasses by leaps and bounds, since one of Scizor's greatest assets is Technician-boosted Bullet Punch.

Scizor gets a mixed bag of treats when it comes to other Pokemon that currently have unreleased abilities and items. On one hand, it can effectively checkmate Latias and Latios, which could pave way for Kyogre, Manaphy, and Fighting Arceus to sweep with some of their greatest counters removed, but on the other hand, Dream World brings Shadow Tag Chandelure, who resists all of Scizor's most common moves and can trap and OHKO it with its Fire STAB.

Thanks for the check and stamp, sirndpt and V0x. I kept the second paragraph of the DW section because it's kind of important IMO, and Soul Dew and ST Chandelure aren't released as of yet.

Bullet Punch allows Scizor to revenge kill a number of sweepers, including Darkrai, Shaymin-S, Salamence, Rayquaza, and Garchomp, although the latter three need to be locked into Outrage or substantially weakened.

wtf is salamence getting a mention in ubers? and why is shaymin-s being considered different from it since Salamence and Shaymin-S have extremely similar bulk?

wtf is salamence getting a mention in ubers? and why is shaymin-s being considered different from it since Salamence and Shaymin-S have extremely similar bulk?

Don't know that much about the first, but factoring in Intimidate, CB Adamant BP does ~15% less to Salamence than it does to Shaymin-S (assuming no defensive investment in both)

Mence is still a threat in Ubers, albeit a relatively minor one this gen. You're right though, Skymin and Mence do have similar bulk if you're talking about revenge killing, so I'll change that.
