Dang.
If I'm actually bugging anyone by being here, I shouldn't post anywhere near as much :( I was worried about that.
I'm not going to quote the rest of your message since you're just backpedaling from your previous position when someone showed the slightest resistance. My comment wasn't directed fully at you, but at (a) forum users in general. Back in the day, when Firebot was a clique and Congregation was a complete trollfest, in order to "get it", usually people lurked around a while to see how people interacted. The ones who jumped right in with 4chan memes and the like were shunned not because they were new specifically, but because they didn't fit.
To cut to the chase, noobs are people who don't:
- read the rules of smogon
- read the rules of the forum you want to post in
- read the forum wide/forum specific announcements
- read the forum specific stickies since usually your questions are answered or there's a simple question simple answer thread
- read the first three or so pages of the forum to see what's been going on lately
If a completely green user, fresh off the registration sheet at least SKIMS through those (especially the locked topics so you can at least see what NOT to do), then you won't be labeled a noob when you first start posting since at least you'll have a general idea of what is/isn't "acceptable". Acceptable is used loosely since in a forum posting is really loose, while in C&C its formulaic and rigid.
I really don't get why people all of a sudden stopped doing this when they signed up or were called out a couple times. As much as I sound like an elitist dick, I really think lurking should be encouraged more often.
