Seviper

QC: TONE114 / galbia / Anty
GP: The Dutch Plumberjack / Rhythms

[OVERVIEW]

Seviper's large movepool allows it to hit the entire PU tier for neutral or supereffective damage. Its decent Attack and Special Attack allow it to hit bulky Pokemon for both physical and special damage, and its good ability in Infiltrator allows it to take on Substitute users such as Ninetales and Gourgeist-S. Poison is also a very good defensive typing to have in PU, as bulky Grass- and Fighting-types are common and this allows Seviper to deal with them more effectively. On the downside, its low Speed along with horrid defenses make it easy to KO, and it is easily worn down by residual damage due to its lack of reliable recovery. Seviper also faces heavy competition from other Poison-types such as Arbok and Victreebel, which have niches over it, such as Intimidate and Sleep Powder, respectively.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Sludge Bomb allows Seviper to hit even neutral targets very hard, and it is boosted by STAB; it also has a chance to poison the foe, discouraging switch-ins. Earthquake is used to take on bulky Fire-types such as Ninetales and Flareon as well as Probopass. Alternatively, Flamethrower allows Seviper to hit some Grass-types, namely Roselia and Gourgeist-XL. Giga Drain is used to hit Ground-types such as Piloswine and Golem for more damage, as Ground-types resist Sludge Bomb. Switcheroo is used to cripple bulkier Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Grumpig, which Seviper can't take on well.

Set Details
========

A Naive or Timid nature along with a Choice Scarf and maximum Speed EV allows Seviper to be as fast as possible, outspeeding Zebstrika and anything slower than that. A Naive nature should be used with Earthquake while a Timid nature should be used with Flamethrower. Maximum Special Attack EVs used maximize Seviper's damage output. Seviper makes use of Infiltrator to hit Pokemon behind a Substitute such as Gourgeist-S and Poliwrath.

Usage Tips
========

Seviper should be brought in against weakened foes to revenge kill them with the help of Choice Scarf, but it shouldn't be brought into strong attackers, as it's very frail and most likely won't survive even neutral hits. Seviper can be brought into some resisted hits, such as Tangela's Giga Drain and Poliwrath's Vacuum Wave. It should, however, preferably be brought in after a KO or via a slow pivoting move such as U-turn, Volt Switch, or Baton Pass. Seviper can also be used as a late-game cleaner thanks to its high Special Attack and Attack along with a good Speed stat with the help of a Choice Scarf. Seviper should also be wary of locking itself into certain moves that could cause it to become setup fodder; for example, if it were locked into Sludge Bomb, Pawniard can set up a Swords Dance against it.

Team Options
========

Entry hazard setters such as Dwebble and Probopass are great partners for Seviper, as Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes allow Seviper to more easily break through bulkier Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Grumpig; with Stealth Rock, Seviper can OHKO Jumpluff and Raichu with Sludge Bomb and Earthquake, respectively. Probopass is an overall great partner for Seviper, as it also provides a slow Volt Switch, providing Seviper with a free switch in. It also traps opposing Steel-types with Magnet Pull, allowing Seviper to spam Sludge Bomb, and provides Stealth Rock support. Simipour is a good partner for Seviper, as it lures in Pokemon such as Lickilicky and Grumpig, hitting them with Low Kick and Knock Off, respectively. Wallbreakers such as Ursaring and Stoutland make for great partners, as they can clean up in the late-game.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Seviper can make use of a Life Orb all-out attacking set to maximize its wallbreaking capabilities, although such a set is outclassed by Victreebel. Sludge Wave can be used over Sludge Bomb to deal more damage, giving Seviper a higher chance to OHKO Pokemon such as Jumpluff, although Seviper misses out on the chance to poison. Seviper can run a fully physical moveset with Poison Jab, Earthquake, Aqua Tail, and Sucker Punch to take advantage of its base 100 Attack and to lure in special walls such as Lickilicky and Grumpig. Knock Off allows Seviper to lure and hit Grumpig, Misdreavus, and Roselia, dealing good damage or removing an important item. Glare is an option that allows Seviper to cripple faster Pokemon on the switch, but then Seviper misses out on a coverage move. Seviper can use Taunt to prevent status from opposing Pokemon such as Thunder Wave from Togetic or to prevent the use of indirect moves such as Stealth Rock and Swords Dance. Toxic can be used to cripple bulkier Pokemon as they switch in and wear them down, although running it causes Seviper to miss out on a coverage move. Final Gambit can be used to KO or weaken a Pokemon greatly, although Seviper instantly faints.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Walls**: Special walls such as Lickilicky, Regice, and Grumpig are able to take hits from Seviper very well; the former can use Knock Off to wear Seviper down and constantly heal itself with the use of Wish, Regice can take hits and retaliate with Ice Beam, and the latter can scare Seviper out with Psychic.

**Ground-types**: Ground-types such as Piloswine and Stunfisk are able to take the majority of Seviper's attacks and retaliate with a super effective attack, while both of them can take advantage of Seviper by setting up Stealth Rock.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types such as Misdreavus and Dusclops resist Seviper's STAB move and can beat it one-on-one.

**Psychic-types**: Psychic-types such as Kadabra and Duosion can easily take on Seviper; the former can survive any hit with its Focus Sash and KO Seviper, while Duosion can survive any hit and KO Seviper with Psyshock.

**Faster Pokemon**: Faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Mr. Mime and Choice Scarf Simipour can outspeed Seviper and KO it.

Minor nitpick Dundies, but Sucker Punch is illegal with Infiltrator, so change the first set's ability to Shed Skin.

The first set is outclassed by victreebel who can run sleep, has a STAB giga drain, and is faster (and comes with the bonus of helping vs sun teams). The only niche that set has would be hitting probo and pawn w/ eq but i still dont think that is important enough for a set. If any one can see a bigger niche please say

Also in the second slash eq should be slashed before (imo) flamethrower, as it hit steels anyway, and flame isnt too important as sludge hits grasses, hitting bugs is irrelevant, and for ice types, pilo is hit harder by giga, regice outspeeds at +2, and auroras is also hit by coverage. Flame is still nice for rose/gourg/ko'ing pawn w/rocks (i guess non-scarf rotom but that is rare - also none of those pokes enjoy a select coverage), however eq also allows serviper to RK fires like ninetales (kos w/ rocks + 1 lo recoil), rapidash (ohkos most of the time w/ rocks), and hits electrics harder which is helpful for RK'ing (ohkos raichu w/ rocks, sludge does like 60%). (thinking about it now it might be worth a slash w/ switcheroo instead as it only hits licki and i guess probo, and ofc u wont need to hit probo and licki is less common)

Also is there a reason you choose sludge wave over bomb? I always prefer bomb as i cant find any calcs which it scores KOs, quilladin isnt very relevant, and bombs poison chance can be very helpful vs special walls

I really dont see a big enough niche for this set and you are going to have to prove to me why it should have one

You didn't have to take out the Life Orb mention altogether, it can make a mention in OO, just say that Victreebel can pull this off better. Anty mentioned this before, but Earthquake is slashed before Flamethrower, not Switcheroo as being able to cripple special walls is too good to pass up. Mention that maximum investment in Special Attack allows Seviper to hit for maximu damage input. Choice Scarf Seviper outspeeds Zebstrika and everything below that. Mention that Probopass can trap and get rid of other Steel-types allowing Seviper to spam Sludge Bomb and Probopass also provides Stealth Rock support. Give examples of what KOs Seviper achieves with entry hazards (OHKO Jumpluff and Raichu after Stealth Rock damage with Sludge Bomb and Earthquake respectively). Mention more examples of Pokemon that can lure in and weaken or get rid of special walls for Seviper (there's no way Lickilicky and Grumpig are staying in on Ursaring and Stoutland). In checks and counters, mention that Grumpig can scare out Seviper with Psychic while Regice can take any attack with ease and retaliate with Ice Beam. For Faster Pokemon, the Pokemon you mentioned could also be scarfed as well so make a mention of that as well. I'd make a mention of Psychic-types as well for checks and counters as Duosion can take any attack Seviper throws at it and respond with Psychic while Kadabra can't directly switch in, it can still live an attack thanks to Focus Sash and OHKO with Psychic. Beef up Ground-types as well as Stunfisk can live a hit with ease and strike back with Earth Power or set up Stealth Rock as Seviper switchs out. The same thing applies to Seviper vs Piloswine as well. Implement this and tag me when you're done Dundies.

You didn't implement any of my suggestions Dundies. Do that first, then get back to me

Sludge wave has a better shot at ohkoing jumpluff I guess so its worthy of oo at least

Scarf final gambit isn't too too bad

Sucker Punch doesn't set Seviper apart from other Poison-types in the tier especially when Arbok and Victreebel exist. You can mention that it faces competition from these Pokemon instead. Also mention that entry hazards wear down Seviper due to its lack of relaible recovery (add this to the last point in the overview is what I mean). Implement this and consider it QC 1/3.

Mention that poison is a good typing to have in pu generally since it helps with the annoying grass and fighting type Pokemon around

Change order of the moves in moves to reflect the set

Mention that timid goes with flamethrower and naive with earthquake. Mention naive before tho because eq is the first slash

Ut you can mention that you can switch it into a predicted grass or fighting type attack

  • Seviper is helpful to teams that are weak to setup sweepers, as Seviper is usually able to outspeed and revenge kill them with the use of its Choice Scarf.
This is not true since seviper can't rk anything that boosts speed

You can probably order cc better

Overview: you really oversell this here like u make it sound like an a rank mon not a c rank one

set
moves: i wouldnt call rap a bulky fire type
'Alternatively, Flamethrower allows Seviper to hit Steel-types such as Pawniard and some Grass-types, namely Roselia and Gourgeist-XL.' - the way this is worded makes it sound like eq doesnt already let u hit steel types

SD: gogoat isnt exactly a sub mon (or a relevant poke for that matter) - also remove that in overview

UT: Mention that it can clean late game due to speed + power

oo: knock off deserves a mention as it baits shit like sdef rose and grumpig

c&c: for faster mons instead of saying 'especially if they are carrying a Choice Scarf.' say 'choice scarf simipour and MR mime' as if they arent running scarf they arent outspeeding viper
