is tengu.
[Overview]
 • Main role is being a powerful mixed attacker
 • Access to priority in Sucker Punch lets it keep up with faster offensive threats
 • Frailness and terrible defensive typing make it difficult to switch in and set up
 • Being weak to U-turn it can be put in checkmate by users such as Primape and Braviary.
 • Mixed set is hard to counter, but easy to check due to its average speed and reliance on Sucker Punch to hit faster mons.
 • SD set is super dangerous once set up, but has difficulty in doing so
 • Great offensive check to SD Samurott and Exeggutor
 • Mandibuzz and SubBU Braviary are both common Pokemon that hinder Shiftry's performance regardless of set.
[SET]
name: Mixed Attacker
move 1: Leaf Storm
move 2: Sucker Punch
move 3: Dark Pulse
move 4: Nature Power
item: Life Orb
ability: Early Bird
nature: Rash
evs: 88 Atk / 244 SpA / 176 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Extremely dangerous and versitile. Has a move for almost every situation and is difficult to switch into.
 • Leaf Storm - Strongest STAB option and hits everything extremely hard including resists
 • Sucker Punch - Lets Shiftry hit faster Pokemon such as Jynx, Charizard, and Scolipede
 • Dark Pulse - Main Dark-type STAB that hits what Leaf Storm doesn't (Eggy, Scolipede, Zard, Tangela)
 • Nature Power - Lets Shiftry hit Skuntank (KOed after taking any hit), Roselia (2HKOed after SR), and Metang (2HKOed with a layer of Spikes, only 40% chance of 2HKO with just SR tho.)
 • Early Bird is a cool ability that lets it check Scarf Jynx well (Sucker Punch an attack and if they lock themselves into Kiss you can use Early Bird to wake up instantly and hit something once they switch out)

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • 176 Speed lets Shiftry outspeed Modest Ludicolo and Samurott. 88 Atk ensures a KO on Charizard with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock as well as making Nature Power much more likely to 2HKO Roselia after Stealth Rock (87% chance).
 • Max Speed can be used to outspeed Adamant Sawk and tie with other base 80's but Shiftry has to sacrifice the Attack EVs and miss out on important KOes
 • Explosion can be used to pick off special walls (Roselia, Regice after SR, standard Buzz after SR and Leaf Storm) so partners can benefit (Samurott and Haunter)
 • Giga Drain can be used so Shiftry doesn't have to have its SpA drop from Leaf Storm when trying to pick off Samurott or Piloswine as well as recovering damage from Life Orb. Problem is it has to give up a move to use it.
 • Entry hazard support helps Shiftry get key KOes (2HKO on Rose with NPower + SR, OHKO on RD Colo with Leaf Storm + SR, 2HKO on Metang with NPower + 1 Spikes, OHKO on Zard with Sucker Punch + SR)
 • Golurk is a good SR partner as it can also take on Fighting-types that threaten Shiftry. Garbodor has good type synergy with Shiftry and can Spikes to weaken switch ins.
[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Sucker Punch
move 3: Seed Bomb
move 4: Nature Power
item: Life Orb
ability: Early Bird
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Extremely dangerous Swords Dance sweeper thanks to Sucker Punch
 • Has difficulty setting up due to its below average 90/60/60 defenses and poor defensive typing
 • Swords Dance turns Sucker Punch into a OHKO button and shreds Pokemon faster than Shiftry (Even Primape is OHKOed by +2 Sucker after SR 50% of the time or 87% with 1 layer of Spikes)
 • Seed Bomb is Shiftry's second STAB and lets Shiftry OHKO Alomomola and Regirock at +2
 • Nature Power OHKOes Skuntank, Metang at +2, and hits other Steel-types such as Probopass, Bastiodon, and Klang.
 • Early Bird is a cool ability that lets it check Scarf Jynx well (Sucker Punch an attack and if they lock themselves into Kiss you can use Early Bird to wake up instantly and hit something once they switch out)
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Muk, Garbodor, and Scolipede are good partners for Shiftry as they can take on Fighting-type Pokemon and do various things against the Grass-type Pokemon that give Shiftry a hard time such as Tangela and Substitute variants of Serperior.
 • Garbodor and Scolipede can set up Spikes and Toxic Spikes to wear them down while Muk walls and hits them hard with Poison Jab while spreading around Poison alongside Poison Touch.
 • Memento Muk in particular works especially well with Shiftry to deal with Shiftry counters and Memento to give it a set up opportunity.
 • Jolly nature could be used to outspeed Adamant Sawk and tie with base 80's but Shiftry misses out on the power and aims to abuse Sucker Punch anyways.
[Other Options]
 • Nasty Plot with Giga Drain/Dark Pulse/Focus Blast, but unlike SD it does not have priority to allow it hit faster targets
 • Sunny Day set abusing Chlorophyll and Solarbeam, but it's not easy to set up and if you don't you use up a moveslot and can't use your Grass-type STAB reliably
 • Tailwind gives the same boost as Sunny Day but also allows Shiftry's teammates to abuse the boost
 • Leaf Storm + Power Swap
 • Substitute because it can force switches, but doesn't have the space to fit it in most sets
[Checks and Counters]
 • Shiftry is hard to directly counter, but easy to check
 • Mandibuzz and Zweilous complete wall it regardless of the set
 • SubBU Braviary walls Mixed and does fine vs SD.
 • Klang and Regice do very well vs Mixed but does poorly against SD
 • Metang and Roselia can take a hit and retaliate back
 • Primape and Sawk outspeed and destroy it (Primape even has U-turn to get the advantage even if it switches). Primape has to watch out for +2 Sucker Punch though as it has a high chance of OHKOing after SR
 • SpD Ludicolo can take 2 Leaf Storms after SR and Synthesis out but is complete set up fodder for Swords Dance Shiftry

[Overview]

Due to its good attacking stats, Shiftry is a mixed attacker, punching holes in teams with its various coverage moves, such as Leaf Storm, Nature Power, and Dark Pulse. Shiftry's access to priority in Sucker Punch means despite its lack of Speed, it can still hold its own against the faster offensive metagame. Sucker Punch also makes Shiftry a dangerous Swords Dance user, as nothing faster than Shiftry likes taking a boosted Sucker Punch. However, having a 4x weakness to U-turn and being frail in general means it can be checkmated rather easily by Pokemon such as Primeape and Braviary, while having difficulty switching into an attack or boosting with Swords Dance. Its typing is both a blessing an a curse; it's very useful for checking dangerous Pokemon such as Swords Dance Samurott and Exeggutor, but it also leaves Shiftry easily walled by common threats such as Mandibuzz and Bulk Up Braviary.

[SET]
name: Mixed Attacker
move 1: Leaf Storm
move 2: Sucker Punch
move 3: Dark Pulse
move 4: Nature Power
item: Life Orb
ability: Early Bird
nature: Rash
evs: 88 Atk / 244 SpA / 176 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is very dangerous and versatile because it has a move for almost every situation. Leaf Storm is Shiftry's strongest attack and hits extremely hard, even against Pokemon that resist it, such as Braviary and Garbodor. Sucker Punch allows Shiftry to pick off faster threats such as Charizard, Scolipede, and Jynx, as well as weakened Pokemon. Dark Pulse is Shiftry's secondary special STAB attack and does good damage to Pokemon that resist Grass such as Scolipede, Exeggutor, Charizard, and Tangela. Nature Power rounds out Shiftry's coverage by hitting Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon, such as Skuntank, Roselia, Metang, and Probopass.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

176 Speed EVs allow Shiftry to outspeed Modest Ludicolo and Samurott while 88 Attack EVs let Shiftry OHKO Charizard with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock and 2HKO Roselia with Nature Power after Stealth Rock. Max Speed and a Mild nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Sawk and Speed tie with other base 80 Speed Pokemon, but Shiftry has to sacrifice Attack EVs and loses out on a lot of power. Early Bird is a somewhat situational ability, but it allows Shiftry to check Choice Scarf Jynx more easily, as it's not afraid of being put to sleep if it predicts wrong with Sucker Punch. It also makes Shiftry a very good offensive check to Exeggutor as it doesn't fear its STABs or Sleep Powder very much. Explosion is an interesting move that allows Shiftry to damage specially defensive walls such as Roselia, Regice, and Mandibuzz so that a partner such as Samurott or Haunter can break through them more easily. Giga Drain is a good option, as it means Shiftry won't have to deal with Leaf Storm's Special Attack drops when picking off Pokemon such as Samurott or Golem, and it allows Shiftry to heal off Life Orb recoil. The main problem with Giga Drain is that Shiftry has to give up a move to use it, and it can't really afford to lose any of its attacks. Nasty Plot can be used over Nature Power and alongside Giga Drain so that Shiftry can make the most out of its special attacks if it finds a chance to set up. Entry hazard support is appreciated, as Shiftry gets some key KOs with it; it 2HKOes Roselia with Nature Power after Stealth Rock, OHKOes Charizard with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock, 2HKOes Metang with Nature Power after one layer of Spikes, and OHKOes Ludicolo with Leaf Storm after Stealth Rock. Golurk in particular is a good partner, as it can get up Stealth Rock and take on the Fighting-type Pokemon that threaten Shiftry. Garbodor can also take on Fighting-type Pokemon and can set up Spikes, while Shiftry takes down the Ground-types that give Garbodor trouble.

[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Sucker Punch
move 3: Seed Bomb
move 4: Nature Power
item: Life Orb
ability: Early Bird
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Shiftry's access to Sucker Punch makes it an incredibly dangerous Swords Dance sweeper, as most faster opponents are incapable of taking a boosted hit. That being said, due to Shiftry's bad defensive typing and mediocre 90 / 60 / 60 defenses, it can have some difficulty setting up. However, it can use some of its resistances and the fear that its mixed attacker set gives off to set up against Pokemon such as Musharna, Alomomola, and Exeggutor. Sucker Punch is extremely powerful once boosted, even capable of OHKOing Primeape after Stealth Rock damage and OHKOing the majority of offensive Pokemon. Seed Bomb is Shiftry's secondary STAB and allows Shiftry to break through common physical walls, such as Regirock and Alomomola, without any trouble. Nature Power rounds out the coverage, hitting Steel-type Pokemon such as Metang and Klang, OHKOing both after a boost.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A Jolly nature can be used so that Shiftry can outspeed Adamant Sawk and Speed tie with other base 80 Speed Pokemon, but Shiftry misses out on the power and is generally using Sucker Punch anyway. Muk, Garbodor, and Scolipede are good teammates for Shiftry, as they can all deal with the Fighting-types that give Shiftry trouble. They can also capable of beating Tangela, Substitute variants of Serperior, and supporting it in other ways: Garbodor and Scolipede can both set up Spikes and Toxic Spikes to cripple Tangela and Serperior, while Muk walls both of them while spreading Poison to Tangela via Poison Jab and Poison Touch. Memento Muk in particular works very well with Shiftry, as Memento can give Shiftry the free opportunity to set up a Swords Dance and sweep.

[Other Options]

Shiftry can use a Sunny Day set with Chlorophyll and SolarBeam to attempt to sweep teams, but setting up Sunny Day can be difficult. Additionally, if not done, Shiftry cannot use its Grass STAB reliably. Tailwind gives the same Speed boost as Sunny Day, and also supports its teammates; however, using Tailwind gives up a moveslot that Shiftry could be using for something more important. Leaf Storm can be used along with Power Swap, but Shiftry has neither the moveslots or the bulk to be attempting such a set. Substitute can be used as Shiftry forces a lot of switches, but like most of its other options, it cannot afford to give up any moveslots

[Checks and Counters]

Shiftry can be hard to counter directly, but it is easy to check due to its frailty and poor defensive typing. That being said, Mandibuzz and specially defensive Zweilous wall Shiftry regardless of the set and can both phaze Shiftry out if it tries setting up. Bulk Up Braviary walls the mixed attacker set and fares decently against the Swords Dance variants. Both Klang and Regice do very well against mixed Shiftry, but a boosted attack from Swords Dance variants can easily cripple them. Specially defensive Ludicolo can take two Leaf Storms—even after Stealth Rock—and heal itself with Synthesis to wear Shiftry down with Life Orb recoil. However, against Swords Dance variants, Ludicolo becomes prey, as Shiftry can easily set up on it. Fighting-types such as Primeape, Sawk, and Gurdurr destroy Shiftry, and Primeape in particular also uses U-turn, which can give it the advantage even if Shiftry switches out.

EVs for Mixed Attack should be 88 Atk / 244 SpA / 176 Spe

Something to take on Mandibuzz would be cool in Mixed Attacker's AC since it looks like a bitch to the set, especially if carrying Brave Bird (which has a chance to OHKO from full)

ok you mentioned Mandibuzz in checks&counters so the above statement is up to you whether or not you want to include it

QC Approved 1/3

mention giga drain in ac of the first set so you wont have to get the drops when you want to ko something like samurott or golurk as well as recovering off life orb damage
mention substitute in OO because it can force switches pretty well so free sub
add max speed in ac of first set along with jolly nature mentioned in the second set just to outspeed more stuff such as like adamant sawk and to not play mind games with sucker punch against gardevoir
add focus blast in oo with nasty plot set
maybe add in overview that shiftry is an excellent offensive check to stuff like sd rott and eggy

looks gucci qc 2/3

where's the NP set? I've used it and it is very good in this meta. Sucker Punch + dual stab is definitely just as good as swords dance

okie since #neverused circlejerked over how bad NP Shiftry is, and I actually use it, and it is 100% worthy of being on the analysis. The set I use is:

[SET]
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Giga Drain
move 3: Dark Pulse
move 4: Sucker Punch
item: Life Orb
ability: Early Bird
nature: Rash
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

This set is a great offensive check to Water-types, just like the mixed attacker set.

It has great matchups against nearly every common lead, nothing ourside of Miltank can set up SR on it comfortably.

It is able to absolutely demolish defensive teams if it can nab a boost (not hard with things like mono attacker Mush)

It's a great check to offensive Psychic-types!

Sucker Punch is still strong enough to hurt weakened Sweepers.

And the main reason I like this set is the recovery Giga Drain gives. It doesn't have t oworry about passive damage nearly as much as the SD or mixed attacker. If you take 30% switching in, Giga Drain can get that back for you. It won't outright sweep teams, but it is capable of really punishing defensive teams.

It's also like the best seismitoad counter ever!

so make it the 3rd set please

Nasty Plot Shiftry isn't bad, but what reason is there really to use it over its other two sets? Mixed already does a good job against bulkier teams while still being good against offense due to Sucker Punch and Swords Dance actually makes the effort of setting Shiftry up worthwhile. Like you said the main reason you like the set is because of Giga Drain recovery, but Mixed already has Giga Drain in AC for that very reason.

Everything else you listed is already done by both Mixed and Swords Dance and your set just looks like the Mixed set with Nasty Plot thrown in. As a pure sweeper Nasty Plot is also inferior to Swords Dance because it lacks that boosted Sucker Punch that makes that set so dangerous and honestly, SD Shiftry is a bigger threat to defensive teams than NP is. What I plan on doing is removing Nasty Plot from OO and adding Nasty Plot to AC of Mixed, because like I said it's not bad, but not good enough for its own set.

If anyone else has anything else they'd like to add feel free to do so. I'll wait a few days before writing this up.

I haven't used Nasty Plot Shiftry before, but Raseri probably has the most extensive use with it out of all of us. Basically, if he has used it a lot to great success, I'm on board with it. Giga Drain is a pretty good reason to use it too with Spikes being so present right now. The fact that it isn't very hindered by passive damage is great. I'm iffy on adding it to the AC of Mixed because it plays so much differently, with Mixed being very hit and run with Leaf Storm. I still see the reason for hesitation, as I would probably rather use SD most of the time. But even so, I see the validity of NP and think it would be fine with its own set.

I don't really see the point of it when all the other sets basically do everything Raseri listed in his post. Leaf Storm hits roughly the same as +2 Giga Drain without the need for boosting. Also, NP doesnt really do well against defensive teams at all since most special walls such as Regice, Skuntank, or Lickilicky stop it in its tracks. Also mono attacking mushy would usually have twave to heavily cripple Shiftry if it tries to set up. As a set up sweeper, Shiftry has a hard time to do it in general due to frailty etc but the SD set performs better against offensive and defensive teams alike because of strong priority and more coverage, respectively. I don't really see the reason of more recovery from Giga Drain (where that isnt super essential to a frail sweeper like shiftry altho it is certainly helpful) as an excuse for the set to exist. I guess you can slash Leaf Storm with Giga Drain and Nature Power with Nasty Plot on the mixed set for combining them but it isnt useful enough for its own set especially when the other sets perform similar if not better roles. Also gg drain is ACd in mixed set and if the recovery is actually that important im pretty sure it would be fine if it was slashed with one of the moves.

This set is a great offensive check to Water-types, just like the mixed attacker set. - the other sets do that too
It has great matchups against nearly every common lead, nothing ourside of Miltank can set up SR on it comfortably. - lead match up is pretty poor considering most people dont lead off with Golem or Regirock and even if they do, the mixed set does it better because it has eq for probopass/bastiodon too
It is able to absolutely demolish defensive teams if it can nab a boost (not hard with things like mono attacker Mush) - not really the case and sd does a better job too because it can at least beat some physical walls like alomomola
It's a great check to offensive Psychic-types! - the other sets do that too
Sucker Punch is still strong enough to hurt weakened Sweepers. - the other sets have a stronger sucker punch

id like to have logs of it actually working and taking advantage of NP or Giga Drain because otherwise i dont really see much reason to add it as its own set

Raseri please don't double post, it's against the rules.

I don't doubt that Nasty Plot can be effective, but I'll echo Annoyer in that I'd like to see some replays that show Nasty Plot being more useful than the Mixed set would have been in that situation.

make NP in AC of mixed for now, when I can be damned to actually collect some replays ill run it through here seperately!

its 4x weakness, not x4 weakness (in overview)

also in the first set, I think better examples than metang and skuntank should be chosen for resists that leaf storm hits, because you then mention them with nature power, this could potentially confuse the reader. A few frail poison or fire types could probably work, ill let you choose the examples you want though.

otherwise 3/3

Ok implemented everything though there were some things that I kept. In the AC of Mixed I kept the mention of the KOes that Stealth Rock helps get because, while those Pokemon were mentioned in the Set Comments, it wasn't really specific. Knowing that you can actually 2HKO Roselia after SR with Nature Power, OHKO Zard after SR with Sucker, and OHKO Ludicolo with Leaf Storm after SR are pretty important. Last thing was that in the AC of SD, I kept the bit about the few other things that the other Pokemon can do for it, but changed the period to a colon. This was because the things that those partners did for Shiftry was listed in the following sentence.

However, having a 4x weakness to U-turn and being frail in general means it can be checkmated rather easily by Pokemon such as Primeape and Braviary, while having and it has difficulty switching into an attack or boosting with Swords Dance. Its typing is both a blessing an a curse; it's very useful for checking dangerous Pokemon such as Swords Dance Samurott and Exeggutor, but it also leaves Shiftry easily walled by common threats such as Mandibuzz and Bulk Up Braviary.

[SET COMMENTS]

This set is very dangerous and versatile because it has a move for almost every situation. Leaf Storm is Shiftry's strongest attack and hits everything extremely hard, even against Pokemon that resist it, such as Braviary and Garbodor. Sucker Punch allows Shiftry to pick off faster threats such as Charizard, Scolipede, and Jynx, as well as weakened Pokemon. Dark Pulse is Shiftry's secondary special STAB attack and does good damage to Grass-type resists such as Scolipede, Exeggutor, Charizard, and Tangela. Nature Power rounds out the set Shiftry's coverage by hitting Poison- and Steel-type Pokemon that can take on the rest of Shiftry's moves, such as Skuntank, Roselia, Metang, and Probopass.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

176 Speed EVs allow Shiftry to outspeed Modest Ludicolo and Samurott, (AC) while 88 Attack EVs let Shiftry OHKO Charizard after Stealth Rock with Sucker Punch after Stealth Rock and 2HKO Roselia with Nature Power after Stealth Rock. Max Speed and a Mild nature can be used to outspeed Adamant Sawk and Speed tie with other base 80 Speed Pokemon, but Shiftry has to sacrifice the Attack EVs and loses out on a lot of power. Explosion is an interesting move that allows Shiftry to take down damage walls such as Roselia, Regice, and Mandibuzz so that a partner such as Samurott or Haunter can break through them more easily. Giga Drain is a good option, as it means Shiftry won't have to deal with Leaf Storm's Special Attack drops when picking off Pokemon such as Samurott or Golem, and it allows Shiftry to heal off the recoil from Life Orb recoil. The main problem with using Giga Drain is that Shiftry has to give up a move to use it, and it can't really afford to lose any of its attacks. Nasty Plot can be used over Nature Power and alongside Giga Drain so that Shiftry can make the most out of its special attacks if it finds a chance to set up. Entry hazard support is appreciated as Shiftry gets some key KOs with it; (change to semicolon) such as 2HKOing it 2HKOes Roselia with Nature Power and after Stealth Rock, OHKOing OHKOes Charizard with Sucker Punch and after Stealth Rock, 2HKOing 2HKOes Metang with Nature Power and after one layer of Spikes, (AC) and OHKOing OHKOes Ludicolo with Leaf Storm and after Stealth Rock. Golurk in particular is a good partner for Shiftry, as it can get up Stealth Rock and take on the Fighting-type Pokemon that threaten Shiftry. Garbodor can also take on Fighting-type Pokemon and can set up Spikes, while Shiftry takes down the Ground-types that give Garbodor trouble.

Due to Sucker Punch, Shiftry is Shiftry's access to Sucker Punch makes it an incredibly dangerous Swords Dance sweeper, as most faster opponents are incapable of taking a boosted hit. That being said, due to Shiftry's bad defensive typing and mediocre 90 / 60 / 60 defenses, it can have some difficulty setting up. However, it can use some of its resistances and the fear that its mixed attacker set gives off instills to set up against Pokemon such as Musharna, Alomomola, and Exeggutor. Sucker Punch is extremely powerful once boosted, even capable of OHKOing Primeape after Stealth Rock damage and OHKOing the majority of most offensive Pokemon. Seed Bomb is Shiftry's secondary STAB and allows Shiftry to break through common physical walls, (AC) such as Regirock and Alomomola, (AC) without any trouble. Nature Power rounds out the coverage, hitting Steel-type Pokémon that resist Shiftry's other moves, (RC) such as Metang and Klang— , (AC) OHKOing both after a boost.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

A Jolly nature can be used so that Shiftry can outspeed Adamant Sawk and Speed tie with other base 80 Speed Pokemon, but Shiftry then misses out on the power and aims to use is generally using Sucker Punch anyways. Muk, Garbodor, and Scolipede are good teammates for Shiftry, (AC) as they can all deal with the Fighting-types that give Shiftry trouble. (change to period) as well as They are also capable of beating Tangela, Substitute variants of Serperior, and doing a few other things for it supporting it in other ways: Garbodor and Scolipede can both set up Spikes and Toxic Spikes to cripple Tangela and Serperior, (AC) while Muk walls both of them while spreading Ppoison to Tangela via Poison Jab and Poison Touch. Memento Muk in particular works very well with Shiftry, as Memento can give it Shiftry the free opportunity to set up a Swords Dance and sweep.

[Other Options]

Shiftry can use a Sunny Day set with Chlorophyll and Solarbeam SolarBeam to attempt to sweep teams, but setting up Sunny Day can be difficult. (change to period) and Additionally, if not done, Shiftry cannot use its Grass STAB reliably. Tailwind gives the same Speed boost as Sunny Day, but and also supports its teammates; however, having using Tailwind uses gives up a moveslot that Shiftry could be using for something more important. Leaf Storm can be used along with Power Swap, but Shiftry has neither the moveslots or the bulk to be attempting to use such a set. Substitute can be used as Shiftry forces a lot of switches, but like most of its other options, it does not have any moveslots cannot afford to give up any moveslots.

Both Klang and Regice do very well against mixed Shiftry, but they can only check a boosted attack from Swords Dance variants as a boosted attack can easily cripple them. Specially defensive Ludicolo can take two Leaf Storms—even after Stealth Rock—and heal itself with Synthesis to wear Shiftry down with Life Orb recoil. However, against Swords Dance variants, Ludicolo becomes prey as Shiftry can easily set up on it. Fighting-types such as Primeape, Sawk, and Gurdurr destroy Shiftry, and Primeape in particular also uses U-turn, which can give it the advantage even if Shiftry switches out.
