Shinies or Competitive?

I was looking through these shiny trade threads and such...

However, there was something that troubled me...

Do you guys rather take a shiny Pokemon or a good competitive pokemon?

I've noticed that most shinies that I've seen are quite incompetitive. Seemingly bad IV's just pop up in them. I know that it looks really intimidating to throw out a shiny pwning Pokemon on Wi-Fi, but, I'm asking, is it really worth all the trouble?

I went SRing, and boy, I never had any luck. I tired out through 100 tries. (Yes, I'm that impatient.) Even if a shiny *fill in the blank* pops up, it may not be the one for battling, and its usage is deprived.

Personally, a good Anti - Starter shiny Breloom would look awesome in the beginning of a battle.

What do you guys think?

Personally I find most shiny Pokemon ugly so I really don't like them anyway. The only Pokemon on my team that I like the shiny form of better is Umbreon.

But I think Smogon in general doesn't care if it's shiny or not as long as it's competitive. This isn't exactly Serebii or NSider.

Read My Mind.

It really, depends. If a shiny poke had like great IV's, but there was non-shiny one with a bit better ones, i would still probably pick the shiny one.

I usually don't like other peoples shinies because the point of getting a shiny is having a unique pokemon that no one else can have and when every has one , example that dawn electivire, that just ruins the point of its shinies but when you send in a high iv shiny that no one else has, that makes you feel special.

Depends what poke were talking about here. For example, I wouldn't use a shiny Weavile even if it had better IVs than a non-shiny one (well, maybe, but probably no way in hell). Theres only a handful of shiny pokes that I would rather use than their non-shiny counterparts, but for the most part, I'd rather use a poke with good Ivs than one thats shiny.

This is why you have a Shiny Adamant Breloom with near perfect Attack, HP, and Speed. Or at least I do. I do have other Brelooms that are slightly better, but the red looks way too cool to pass up.:naughty:

But, like someone else said, it depends on how they look. If I got a shiny Raquaza, I wouldn't care if it was the worst piece of shit out there, I would use it, just because it looks that awesome.

I NEVER look at anything accept MSets, IVs, and EVs. It takes me 500+ eggs just to get a good IV'd Poke, and a Good IV shiny would be ridiculous.

Shiny=Oooooh

Great IV's=Wins

Shiny+Great IV's=Oooooh, I win.

I do not care about shinies. Yeah, its cool and all, but I would much rather win games with the pokemon I have that have good IV's. The only shiny I have is the "Dawn" Electivire, and that is because its got good IV's.

Bottom Line (In My Eyes)
Competitive IV's>>>Shiny

I'm gonna have to agree with you on the Rayquaza, if it only knew scratch I'd still use it. Its cool like that. Rayquaza is the pentultimate BAMF when it comes to shinyness.

Well I got a Timid Shiny Nidoking, Timid Magmotar, Timid Vulpix, Jolly Kabuto, and some oter stuff with good natures but horrid IV's. Also my Lv.2 Shiny Rayquaza.

Wow. That would be a really cool Breloom.

Actually, I've been searching for a UT Shiny Poison Heal Shroomish, but I can't seem to actually get a hold of one. Doing it makes me wonder if it's actually worth it to include something as exclusive on my team.

Shiny Salamence looks even stupider than the original O.o (and that's hard to accomplish . . .) I got to say that shiny weevil is worse still though . . .

Metagross and Gyarados are bad ass though XD

Garchomp . . . huh? They're different? LOL

i got 2 shinies in 6 days by myself without chaining, buizel and feebas. The feebas has competitive IVs and hatched from an egg, and as sandman said, its more special if you have a competitive shiny that other people dont in which case happens to me. That's why im debating over trading it or not in my trade thread =/

Shiny Weavile looks fucking hideous.

Now if this was my scenario:

Adamant Salamence: 27/30/31/x/31/27

Or Shiny adamant Weavile: 31/31/31/31/31/31

I'd go with Salamence.

Shininess is for aesthetic purposes only. If you want to win games, who the F cares about what color it is. If you have a team full of shinies, you will just be accused of hacking, anyway.

Also, it's damn near impossible to get a competitive shiny. I have caught over 20 shinies now, the majority of which came from the radar chaining thing. Of those, only 3 could be considered truly competitive quality, and the fact that they're caught means no egg moves are possible. Quality > color.

If a shiny looks awesome(Rayquaza, metagross, magnezone, charizard etc.) and has useable IVs/Nature then I would use it over something with Better IVs.But I wouldn't get a shiny just for it being shiny.

Competitve IV > Shinyness. Don't care if it's a Shiny Metagross or anything, if it doesn't have good enough IVs then it's trade fodder in my eyes.

This thread has depressed me greatly.

On my Emerald version, I encountered a shiny Rayqauza, first time of fighting it, totally by chance.

I had no Master Ball, but a few dozen Ultra Balls. I battled it for about 30 minutes, as it repeatedley used Rest and Fly. Eventually, my Sceptile used Dragon Claw to weaken it. Previously this had done around 50%. This time, it was a critical hit, and the shiny Rayquaza DIED.

I was a mess. :pirate:

But anyway, competitive Pokemon are effortlessly better than shiny pokemon.
