Ever found a shiny Pokemon

After I finished Pokémon Crystal, I decided that before I Pokémon Bank shut down (not confirmed on when that’ll be, so don’t worry just yet) I’d hunt one of the most elusive shinies of all of Pokémon, Celebi.

And I got it!
IMG_1110.jpeg

Rather quickly in fact - it’s possible to get about 110~ of these per hour accounting for human error, and I hunted it for 2 hours at a time, only about 5 times over 3 days so I got it in about 1000~ resets ( I suspect it may have been below that) ridiculously lucky for a 1/8192 shiny with no improving odds. (Also can I just say, the GSC shiny effect might be my favourite one in the entire series, it’s so cool!)

I of course transferred it up to SwSh, and made a pitstop along the way to get it the Tree Victor title from USUM because I thought it was fitting:
IMG_1125.jpeg

I have to say, worth it!

Love this shiny a lot; it was the last one I needed of the Johto Legends, and I think all of them look amazing:

no I did not initially post this in the wrong thread you saw nothing
D4E584AA-B01C-4D68-A82D-D9C5D860DF66.jpeg

This is the only existing image of a Shiny Metang that I accidentally ran into whilst biking up the Snowside Slope in the Crown Tundra in late 2020

My team was not prepared to catch it and that combined with the Beldum line’s infamously low catch rate led to it slowly dying to Hail damage as I could do nothing but spam Ultra Balls that it kept breaking out of.

It was one of the first shiny pokemon I ever encountered in a mainline game and I failed to catch it :(

I obtained a dream shiny today: shiny Eevee from XD Gale of Darkness:
1L5wygc.jpg

Been hunting it on/off for roughly 3 years and I finally got one for myself. :boi: I'm gonna take it all the way to the end of the game as an Eevee so I can clone it in Emerald and get all the evos shiny. I honestly can't decide on whether to evolve it or not right away so that's one other reason why I'm keeping it as is atm I'm also gonna see if I can do a full shiny team in this game lol

I decided recently to obtain every Legendary/Rare shiny I could with the games I had, which is basically every Legendary/Ultra Beast that you can encounter in Dynamax Adventures + A few others. In the last month alone, I’ve obtained Cresselia, Celesteela, Articuno, Solgaleo, Xurkitree, Virizion and Cobalion. For perspective, as of the 29th of September, I only have these Pokémon left to obtain shiny:

Regice :regice:
Regirock :regirock:
Registeel :registeel:
Uxie :uxie:
Mesprit :mesprit:
Tapu Bulu :tapu bulu:
Guzzlord :guzzlord:

However, for my 50th hunt, I took a small detour. I decided to hunt god.

IMG_1345.jpeg

This hunt. Is absolutely draining. Every encounter takes 55 or so seconds due to BDSP’s long load times + the cutscene, which means that at max efficiency, you could get about 65 Arceus per hour. However, we’re all human, so in reality, I’d say about 62 is what you’d get on average. Either way, that’s a pitifully low amount for a hunt that has zero ways of improving odds, because BDSP’s shiny charm doesn’t work on wild encounters. Why? Because someone thought that’d be funny.

Comparatively, USUM can give you about 170~ encounters per hour AND you have shiny charm odds.

Well, whatever. This is the only way to get this shiny; I went deep. Since this was my 50th hunt, I decided to count my encounters, as I don’t normally do so with legends outside of DMAX Adventures. And so, after about 50 hours of hunting for the past week, it shined.

IMG_1337.jpeg

IMG_1349.jpeg

This was an insane moment, even more insane than the Celebi I got under 1000 encounters. It was Arceus, the pinnacle of Pokémon, and it was shiny. This was only 2956~ encounters, but my god, compared to USUM and DMAX, this was so woefully unengaging and tedious. On the bright side, compared to other games where you have to pay attention more often, there’s a lot of free time between resets. During that time, I mostly watched YouTube, but I also read some One Piece (I’m only 134 Chapters in but ngl it’s kinda goated, Luffy, Zoro and Nami are awesome, Sanji and Usopp are good too…)

However, I implore anyone who just wants to get themselves shines statistically quicker, to just play USUM instead, or if you want to be more engaged hunting and have chances of finding other, regular shinies alongside your target, do DMAX. Obviously I can’t do that in this case, but 5/7 of the remaining hunts I have left can be done in BDSP, and I will be doing all of them in either SwSh, or USUM, for my sanity’s sake. Anyway!

IMG_1342.jpeg

I’m officially an owner of a legit shiny Arceus! I caught it within 25 Luxury Balls, though I did have my Master Ball on hand in case things went south. I really think - that despite how agonising this hunt was - in the end, it may be my favourite I’ve ever done. It just feels like a huge accomplishment for me. I don’t ever count my hunts for reset shinies, mostly because I can’t be bothered, but it added another dimension to the hunt since I was conscious of how many I did per day, and the time to count ratio was interesting to keep track of as well (Around 68 hours is when I would’ve reached odds).

Strangely, I just love shiny hunting for these legends so much. The memories of every hunt make me smile, frown and laugh, even if not every one was the most amazing thing ever. Some more pictures:

(Side note, SV textures clutching up again, the gold colour of the metal parts of Arceus’s body really make it feel so divine. Thank you SV metal textures.)

I love shiny hunting!!!

After 2 and half years, I’m finally done* with my shiny legendary dex!

IMG_1398.jpeg

IMG_1402.jpeg

After I posted my shiny Arceus, I planned on going slower with the remaining Pokémon I had to get, those being (including two mons I forgot about last time for no reason):

Regirock :Regirock:
Regice :Regice:
Registeel :Registeel:
Uxie :Uxie:
Mesprit :Mesprit:
Tapu Bulu :Tapu Bulu:
Guzzlord :Guzzlord:
Regieleki :Regieleki:
Regidrago :Regidrago:

With the goal being the end of the year, I felt like it would be easy to just go at my own pace… turns out 'my own pace' doesn’t exist if I’m extremely lucky.

On the 12th, I got Uxie after 63 Dynamax Adventures. The 13th, not even 24 hours later, Guzzlord after 75 Adventures. Then, 3 days later on the 16th, Mesprit after 76. These 3 in particular were stragglers of groups I had started hunting but hadn’t fully completed, with the two lake guardians completing my Gen 4 legends and Guzzlord completing my Ultrabeast collection.

Then, the next phase: The Regis.

IMG_1397.jpeg

I already had Regigigas since June from my Ultra Moon, and on that same day I got Stakataka from 45 Adventures (that anecdote is semi-relevant I promise) I held off from doing the main 5 Regis mostly because of Regice, who’s shiny is fucking terrible (actually, it became worse over time. Look at it in Gens 3 through 5, then 6 and 7, then 8 and 9. That shit is comical) and the Gen 8 Regis, who can only be hunted at full odds.

Well, turns out the Regis really, REALLY liked me, and I got all of them in a fairly quick manner. On the 18th, I got Regice on my Ultra Moon after *72* encounters. After playing through the entirety of my Sword again, and by 'playing through' I mean sending my starter to SV, giving it steroids to reach level 100, and then sending it back to Sword to do the worlds most unceramonious curbstomping of everyone in the game, I got onto Regidrago, which I obtained handily at 1363 encounters on the 20th. For whatever reason, the shiny charm doesn’t seem to work on the Regis at all in SwSh, so I basically got it in shiny charm odds, very lucky overall! But surely this luck won’t continue right?

On the 21st, I obtained Regirock after only 238 encounters on my Ultra Sun, very lucky to have gotten it so quickly, yes yes yes, etc…

But the craziest thing? Not only was that not my only shiny that day, but it wasn’t even the fastest one. Before going to bed, I hunted down Registeel on the same save file and started hunting it up to 100, before deciding to go on another 15 mins or so. And on the 115th encounter, Registeel decided to forsake its name and don oxidised copper. I was shook. But that’s really where the intense luck ends all things considered.

WE INTERRUPT YOUR REGI-LARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM TO BRING YOU: RANDOM TAPU!

IMG_1403.jpeg

Yeah, this only needed to be hunted because my dumbass caught the original one on my main sword file, so I just did this after Regidrago on the other sword file, otherwise I would’ve done it like 2 years ago, when I got the other Tapus. This was also the last mandatory Dynamax Adventures hunt, and was obtained on the 23rd. 103 Adventures, slightly over odds.

Anyway, the end was in sight now. The last Pokémon I had to hunt was Regieleki. Same deal as Regidrago, had to play through a new file with the same cheese as before. Oh well:

IMG_1400.jpeg

After 1619 encounters, this (very very cute) electric titan became a light bulb. This happened today, on the 27th, which means I managed to get all the remaining shiny Pokémon I needed within a month of Arceus. It was a lot of grinding, but towards the end, also a shit ton of luck.

Anyway, it’s over*. I wanna thank a peculiar Pokémon I got 2 years and 6 months ago:

IMG_1399.jpeg

This shiny Xerneas that I got randomly doing a couple of Xerneas raids online. As you can see by the Poké Ball, I was not expecting this. I also didn’t have the shiny charm, so this was a 1/300 chance from only 3 raids. The reason why I thank this encounter in particular is that though this wasn’t my 1st shiny legendary (that would be a random shiny Kyurem in Gen 5 that is now unfortunately lost to extenuating circumstances) it flung me into shiny hunting full scale. The entire month after I got this was spent on getting a shiny Ho-Oh, and then shortly afterwards, a Tapu Lele, then a Rayquaza. Point is, it’s undoubtedly the reason I got into this whole thing, so I have to thank this specific bunch of rare pixels, because this has been a genuinely nice hobby to have over the past 2 and half years.

Sorry for the image spam. Thank you very much for reading this if you did, I genuinely really appreciate it if you read even the beginning paragraphs. This is basically a very small yet at least somewhat significant part of my life coming to an end*.

*There’s still mons to hunt, such as Type: Null (two of them) but as of right now, I don’t own a copy of the original Sun or Moon, which is the only game where it’s huntable, AND it’s at full odds. For now, no sir…

*It’s not necessarily over. They can always make certain Legendaries huntable in future games that aren’t huntable yet, such as Glastrier, Spectrier and Kubfu, and I’ll be back in the coal mines as soon as I can get my trusty shiny charm (even if it doesn’t work.)

*For now…

P.S, Shiny Regi + Koraidon Naptime:

:)

While on my way to do the 7* Swampert Raid which spawned in the cliffy area south of Cortondo, I don't know whether I activated a swarm or not but there were a lot of groups of Mareep. Notably was one group that spawned next to me just before I jumped off the cliff to where the raid was, which had a pale pinkish smudge mushed among the usual pale yellow smudges.

I caught it in a Heal Ball, nicely matches its (and Shiny Ampharos) colors.

Ok, so I lied. Type: Null is able to be acquired in USUM, and I don’t know why I thought it wasn’t. So I went for it and after a grueling 6768 resets, I got it. Unfortunately, my flabbergasted ass was in shock so I didn’t get a picture of it on my 3DS so enjoy SwSh screenshots instead. Good shiny btw.

IMG_1430.jpeg

IMG_1429.jpeg

Before Pokémon Bank closes, I will probably go for another one (as well as another Poipole) but I’d have to redo my US file so that’s on hold for a mo.

BONUS STAGE: A SECOND SHINY LANDORUS!
IMG_1425.jpeg

I really don’t know why I did this other than wanting both a separate Incarnate form and a Therian form but uh. This took 350 Dynamax Adventures. That’s triple and a half over odds with the shiny charm. This was nearly double my second longest hunt with this method which was Rayquaza at 188.

IMG_1426.jpeg

I caught it in a Level Ball, which I just learned has this really nice tri-coloured effect. Even though I have all (huntable) shiny legends, it may be small little quest I do to catch a few more in rare balls, like Lunala in a Moon Ball, Raikou or Latias in a Fast Ball, etc.

IMG_1428.jpeg

Let sleeping Landorus lie…

As always, thanks for reading!

I don’t really do SV hunts much because I do find them much harder to do absentmindedly as opposed to soft reset hunts, but there’s a couple of hunts I’d love to do someday including 3-Segment Shiny Dudunsparce, a jumbo and mini form of the same shiny, and more. One of those was finding a max size shiny Dondozo. I found an outbreak that spawned today so I decided, why not?

Unfortunately, though I did get three shiny Dondozos within the sandwich time, I didn’t find a max size one, BUT I did find one that’s just as cool:

IMG_1444.jpeg

Behold, perhaps the most perfect mark and Pokémon combo ever. I was really excited that I got this, because I had never gotten a shiny with the Dusk mark before, mostly because it’s only available for 3 minutes of each 72 minute long SV day.

IMG_1443.jpeg

Definitely a really cool find and hopefully I can get the Great Dozo someday!

Thanks for reading as always, I like posting my finds on here.

Just wanted to say I really appreciate your posts. Congrats on your Dondozy, a perfect combo indeed!

(This post is very long, read at your own risk of boredom!)

First of all, I want to say a Happy New Year to the Orange Island subforum and shiny hunters everywhere. I hope you all have an amazing and lucky year. It’s the first day of the year, and I’m starting 2025 off well, with this!

IMG_1461.jpeg

Shiny Giratina-Origin in the Distortion World! I had been replaying my Platinum because I wanted to do some Old Gen shiny hunting with the full odds - 1 in 8192 (and also because Platinum is super fun and good and comfy). Despite these odds, this came in 599 encounters, a roughly 7% chance for it to happen this quickly.

Giratina is tough catch - it only has 30 PP spread amongst its 4 moves, with two of them being Ancient Power and Ominous Wind, moves that have a 10% chance of raising its stats, and within ten turns of the start of the battle, it had raised them twice. Additionally it’s a Ghost type, meaning no False Swipe. In Gen 4, the amount of HP left doesn’t add to catch chance, only the colour of the HP bar. Luckily I had already gotten it paralysed and down to red HP, so it was just a matter of using my Empoleon to tank hits while I threw balls, using Shadow Force startup turns to heal. I threw a Quick Ball on the first turn which it broke out of after the first shake, then after I had weakened it, threw 5 Ultra Balls that all failed with shaking even twice.

Then, I threw a Luxury Ball. In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Luxury Balls can’t be purchased until after Giratina’s Distortion World encounter - at the Sunyshore City and Pokémon League Poké Marts - but in Platinum, there is ONE that you can get, at the Pokémon Mansion on Route 212. I initially wanted to catch this Giratina in this ball, but learning that there was only one before its encounter made me resort to getting it in an Ultra Ball instead. However, with this one ball, there was a minuscule chance - around 1.2% - that this would catch. So I threw it.

And I caught it.

IMG_1463.jpeg

I started this hunt on the 29th, expecting it to go on for a few months at best; the reality was a New Years Gift and an awesome way to start off 2025. It has a careful nature, and it likes to run! (Even though it’s Origin Forme doesn’t have feet, hmm.)

IMG_1506.jpeg

IMG_1505.jpeg

(Also I’m genuinely extremely sorry about the image quality. I tried for several hours to get images that don’t look so bad off of my phone camera, but it didn’t work very well. Please click on the image if you want to see it in slightly better quality.)

Thanks for reading. 2025 will be an awesome year, I’m sure of it!

Happy February! I’m back with my shiny hunting antics. To start off this month I have two finds to report: shiny Dialga and Palkia in Platinum.

IMG_1520.jpeg

I actually double hunted this with my Diamond, and it was my first double hunt. It was pretty hard to get used to at first, and I had to use the rubber band method, which is where you used rubber bands to hold down L and R to make soft resets as easy as just pressing start and select (or just one of either on USUM) but after a couple thousand resets, I wasn’t struggling at all. I kinda can’t believe there’s people out there who can control four or more games at once.

IMG_1518.jpeg

IMG_1525.jpeg

This took 16878 soft resets, and about 70 hours of relatively consistent hunting ever since just after I caught Giratina. Going over 10000 felt like I was exploring a new frontier of shiny hunting. It was like my 'New World' so to speak.

Fun fact: Dialga and Palkia have a catch rate of 30 until ORAS, making them the first legendaries in the series to have catch rates above 3. For catching purposes, this just means that you can catch them in any ball you want without much stress as long as they are 1HP, as well as paralysed or asleep. I chose a dusk ball for Dialga.

IMG_1581.jpeg

IMG_1579.jpeg

Pretty cool right? I really love how shiny Dialga looks in this game, it has a more turquoise and aquamarine colour as opposed to 3D, where it’s more like teal. Definitely a dream shiny just like Giratina.

Then there’s Palkia. I didn’t have a second game that I could hunt on, so this was just going to be a single hunt. I intended to procure a Pearl copy sometime down the line (buying another Platinum copy would’ve put me in generational debt, I’m sure you understand) but on a whim, I decided to start it and just have it be an on and off hunt for now. Buuut…

IMG_1556.jpeg

141 soft resets in a game with 1/8192 odds. This took just over an hour. I’m not even gonna lie, this one didn’t even feel like I hunted it. It felt more like I was resetting to get a specific nature I wanted or something, haha.

IMG_1560.jpeg

I actually really like how shiny Palkia looks in this game. That pinkish hue is a lot more pronounced and vivid in sprite form. Not quite a dream shiny (ironic because I think a this shiny would rock the hell out of a dream ball) but very nice to look at. I caught it in a heal ball, mostly because it matches, but also because the initial visual effect of the heal ball looks conveniently like the Gen 4 shiny effect, so it’s like double sparkles!

IMG_1571.jpeg

IMG_1564.jpeg

And so, after only a month, I have completed the shiny Creation trio in their original generation. It took 17618 total soft resets, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier. For my debut into full odds hunting (bar Celebi) these three have been mercifully forgiving. Dialga taking 16878 resets might seem like a lot, but there are shiny hunters out there who have been as high as 70000 soft resets for a single Pokémon. I am extremely grateful it did not take even a quarter of that length. I think I will probably see how many ribbons I can get on these three and then transfer them through the generations so that they can join my other horde of shinies in HOME.

Thanks for reading, and stay lucky!

This is an impromptu post as opposed to me usual ones, but I thought it was cool so I wanted to post about it. I’m playing HGSS for the first time and wanted to do the starter hunt since it’s by infamous for being by far the easiest of all starter hunts in the series. You get to see all three starters, and for some reason, their shininess. Each check is about 20 seconds and you get to see 500 starters per hour. I very much recommend this as a starter hunt for anyone wanting to get into full odds hunting. Enough ramble though.

IMG_1586.jpeg

This cute caramel Cyndaquil came after 1867 starter encounters (this would be 1869, but I mashed and chose Chikorita once on accident meaning I didn’t get to check the other starters) and 622 Cyndaquil encounters. I actually wanted Totodile, but it’s fine because A: It’s shiny, and B: I like Cyndaquil and Totodile equally.
A shame though as I already played through Crystal with Cyndaquil, but anything but Chikorita (sorry Chikorita lovers).

IMG_1588.jpeg

IMG_1591.jpeg

Good nature too!

Sorry for spamming this thread, I’m definitely gonna dial it back after this one. Don’t get me wrong though, I still love sharing my finds. Thanks for reading as always.

I don't know how I went for so long on Smogon without ever knowing about this thread but here we are. Lots of really cool finds in this thread here. Most of my time shiny hunting was when I was younger around Gen 6 so Shiny Pokemon were already very commonplace by then. I've still found like one or two dozen Shiny Pokemon in pre-Gen 6 games even excluding other boosted odds methods like the GSC breeding method but most of the stuff I've gotten hasn't been especially crazy or weird or grindy or anything like that.

Still, there was one point a few years ago where I was at a friend's house and both of us felt like starting a new Pokemon Platinum file out of the blue. Was a good time messing around and playing through the game together. After grabbing his started Piplup this friend thought it would be a fun idea to screw with me by very quietly playing the Shiny sound on his phone, "bro I got a Shiny Piplup," and then I'd walk over and it wasn't. Very funny. We both got a good laugh from it.

Then disaster struck.

1738884000233.png

Apologies for the grainy image, but I got a full odds Shiny of one of my absolute favorite Pokemon before I could even get Poke Balls. I was not hunting for Chimchar or anything like that. Literally just wanted to play through the game casually and it was moments after my friend had gotten done messing with me over a fake Shiny sound. Best part? The date this happened on was April 1st, 2018. Was like life's little prank on me. I had found enough Shinies through hunting before this point that I didn't even really care to lose one. If anything I was and still am happier that I got a good story out of it.

Story doesn't even end there. I had mostly stopped Shiny hunting because I felt I had gotten everything I really wanted after getting ~60 or so in total. The excitement of getting a Shiny Pokemon had gone down to the degree where I didn't even feel like reclaiming the Starly despite Staraptor being one of my favorites. Maybe part of that was from there never being any stakes since I explicitly never went for targets that could fail like a Gen 4 starter would or like a wild Abra or something, which makes the fact that I ended up having a second case of this happening all the more funny to me.

A few years later, I was with a different friend and it happened again. And I thought to get a video this time!! I'll reiterate - I explicitly avoided Shiny Hunts where failing was easy because I was too scared of how disappointed I'd be if I lost one. I can't imagine too many people have found multiple completely uncatchable Shinies without ever specifically hunting for one of the starters or something like that. I once again did not care about losing a Shiny because there's no way it could happen to me a second time LOL

I don't Shiny hunt anymore but might have to share a few more stories here later. In a game as random as Pokemon there's bound to be some wacky nonsense leading to stories you can tell for years. Since I played these games a ton when I was younger and since I have by far the most playtime in the Gen 6 games, I've got plenty more I could say.

Despite the overworld factor and having completed many of the Pokedex entries up to Level 10, I haven't had much shiny luck in Legends: Arceus yet. I may have passed a few over in the wild. I saw a shiny Teddiursa in massive mass outbreak but it ran away because I suck at catching the scaredy-cat ones. I'll bring proper supplies next outbreak but I'm disappointed as I love that evolutionary line.

However, today Nurse Joy told me I got Pokerus, in Soul Silver, which is the second time I've gotten one in a Johto game on a Friday in 2025, the last one was in the Crystsal VC for 3DS on the 24th of January. In other words, I've caught a shiny less times than I've gotten Pokerus (excluding the ones you're gifted ofc). Across games in 7 of the 9 gens that I've spent time playing I've only caught one shiny, vs 2 times in Johto lol.

Hopefully I'll change that this weekend if I can put down HGSS

This Pokerus is gonna be even cooler if I can transfer it to the other DS games too
