Resource Simple Questions, Simple Answers UU Edition

Hello,

Can someone please give me an explanation for why Zeraora is considered S-rank? I did not have a very positive impression with it laddering (both using and facing it). That said, this is the first time I've played on showdown in several months, so I'm obviously not up to speed on how the meta has changed.

Figured this would be the best place to ask this, rather than the viability rankings thread.

Thanks

To quote the recently uploaded analysis written by UU's own Lilburr :

" Zeraora's insane Speed tier and borderline unblockable Volt Switch make it one of the best offensive pivots in the tier. Its amazing coverage makes it possible to break through every common Electric-immune foe in the tier like Mamoswine, Krookodile, and Rhyperior, and its access to a speedy Knock Off gives it invaluable team support. Its decent power makes it extremely threatening to offensive teams, essentially mandating that those teams employ Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Krookodile in order to be safe against it. It also has a very dangerous Bulk Up set that turns common counterplay like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu on its head, giving it a layer of unpredictability. "

Basically, Zera has the right sets and enough coverage moves to destroy the entire tier besides Nidoqueen. Totally demolishes most HO teams too. Most Zeraora's on the ladder are the basic pivot set which is typically stopped easy by grass and is not super duper threatening by itself, but when you start facing different ones that's when you realize how strong it really is.

But, if you disagree with this, you can always make a post in the Viability Rankings thread with an explanation. Some people think it should only be A+, so that would be the place to have a discussion on this point.

If Latias gets banned from UU and Kyurem rises to OU, then what will the UU tier look towards to for Dragon Offense? We would only have Kommo-o, Mence, Zydog.

Well, you've answered your own question haven't you? In terms of spamming powerful Dragon STABs Salamence and Kommo-o are the likely options in this scenario unless you resorted to niche stuff like Regidrago. Either way, we won't be potentially losing Kyurem for another 2 months so you can always continue using that if Latias does get the boot.

If February was a normal tier shift and latios dropped would it be automatically qbed if latias got banned or would it need it's own separate suspect

It would be quickbanned. Latios is essentially a stronger Latias, which as we all know is possibly the single best mon right now and most are advocating for a ban right now. You could even run both of them and watch teams crumble.

Even If latios had dropped, using both on the same team would be viable
Latios is an upgraded and more broken version of Latias ik they are not the same pokemon but I think it would just make sense if latias got banned latios would go too whether its from voting or automatic qb hopefully a council member could answer this question ._.

No plans, basically. It's very likely it'd get quickbanned shortly after it drops unless something major happens, but we don't plan in advance like this. In general we choose not to speculate on these things in order to avoid making tiering decisions for a meta that might never exist.

So from what I am getting from the two mons on the survey, victini and terrakion are on the radar next? So do you guys think victini is gonna be suspected next?

Im not council but afak the plan is to wait to do a second survey in a few weeks time to get an idea of how people feel after having some time to adjust to the new post latias meta, as a lot of people filled in the survey before ladder was even updated and therefore the responses had a level of speculation. What would be next would be reliant on the outcome from these two surveys and would be hard to necessarily predict.

Why was nidoqueen so good when it first dropped, but its usage is declining, at least for me its being used less and less. Was there a trend that caused it? or was it just nidoqueen looked good on paper but did not as well in practice

It is a decent mon, it break balance teams, but the offensive one just destroy it, victini, salamence, terrakion, krokodile. azumarill give nido problems that make it hard some times to work with it. Krokodile just match better as rocker and offensive mon in general

So how do the managers who draft people for UUPL pick their players? Do they just choose who they like or is it random?

They don't necessarily "pick", there is a live draft/auction where all the managers are present at the same time, and the players are selected during that. According to the announcements:
The UUPL IX auction will take place at 1 pm Eastern (GMT -5) on Sunday, February 28th.

As to what determines who the managers want on their team, that really depends on the manager as it's up their own preference. But, in no particular preference order, some positive factors could include:
  • If a manager knows you
  • If a manager likes you
  • If a manager thinks you are good, or good enough at least

Hope that helps!

I've heard that Scizor has been getting a lot of usage in OU lately, especially in SPL. How likely is it that we lose Scizor in the April tier shifts?
