Hi! I had an absolute blast playing in SPL, so I thought I'd share some of the teams I used and the thought processes behind each of them. Overall, I had a great time playing and it was great being on the Rooners, team atmosphere and dynamic made this tournament a lot more fun than I thought it would be going in. While I'm not too happy about my overall 2-3 record and I definitely think I could have played better, it was a great experience that let me develop individually as a player. Without any further ado..

Coming into this week I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. Was still kind of feeling honeymoon phases on getting drafted, which I thought might happen but didn't expect. Anyways, when I got down to build I was expecting Kangaskhan, Amoonguss, Talon, LandoT, and 2 other mons that I wasn't sure about (my best guess was Thundurus and a dragon, ie Latios or Hydreigon). I ended up building this team starting from trying to make Porygon2 on Sun work. On the surface, it's very similar to Stratos Sun but many of the sets differ heavily. Porygon sun is neat because it nicely checks Heatran/Diancie/Lando while also serving as a catchall switchin and speed control. Overall, I tend to not like teams if they don't win in their matches (and this didn't) and then never touch them again but it's still a cool team that I might revisit sometime. During the match I don't know why but right before it I switched pory up to minspeed instead of the creep I originally had on it, which still makes me sad. If I wanted I probably could've use Tri/Foul Play, but I wasn't TOO afraid of Aegis. Big checks to this team include Kang and Amoonguss.

For Week 2, I was just like really sad about losing week 1. After drinking appropriate amounts of alcohol and feeling a bit down I set onto week 2. When I tried to look up replays of Biosci literally all I got was replays of last year and the year before, which weren't really very helpful. So, with that in mind I was like "Fuck it I'll just build what I want", there's no point trying to account for what he might bring, so I ended up with this. If you want a lengthier explanation I talked about the team in this post. The actual replay is pretty standard like 6 kos 6 turns kind of deal, but I did double Blastoise turn 1 so if Biosci had protected it there I would've been fucked. I was willing to risk sacred fire burn but he ended switching to Aegis so that went good. I think he was Timid Gardevoir so I did win that speed tie which was p nice.

God I love this team... Looking at the replay still makes me kinda sad but honestly this team was so quality. I was expecting him to bring full anti-HO mons such as Thundurus, Talonflame, and then some Tr checks such as Amoonguss. When I played deo speed for seasonals, Arctic told me that was how he would ct so I was like "o ok lemme write this down real fast". In addition, I liked that it was a heavy deviation from my last two weeks. Double-dark types is cool with the Fairy mega but generally I wouldn't recommend it too much, as it can have issues vs stuff like Sylveon and/or Keldeo. Overall, I really liked how this team turned out and it's a shame it didn't win cuz of some unfort. hax. The match was still a lot of fun to play, really let me get into my comfort zone because I'd played with a team similar to this in the past.

BLINGAS... I had literally no idea what to expect. Apparently he's played Doubles before way back when (I didn't know that) but I thought he might bring some form of Trick Room or meme squad... cuz I literally knew nothing about him. Ended up losing because I thought he might be 3x utility Infernape because I saw sash (turns out he wasn't) and didn't protect my talonflame. I also think I didn't test this team as much as I should have because I was just kind of burnt out from getting haxed week 3 and being sad and auto-piloting. If I were to use this team now I'd probably use Static Zapdos, which wasn't legal at the time.

For Salty Suite, I threw together this really fun Trick Room squad. It's literally just pure memes but it was actually so fucking solid in testing. Anyone not running kang just gets bopped. Anyone trying to run fastshit spam just gets fukn bopped also. I think I have a replay of this destroying Qsns when I played him and it was so quality. Still sad about sucker crit but I really should've spored the Kangaskhan instead of Sylveon with my Smeargle.

This team was very close to just press x if they have sleep. Literally 0 sleep checks on a tr team but you know fuck it I knew Qsns wasn't bringing Amoonguss. I didn't think he would expect TR since I had sent him like 5 Trick Room squads (that I admittedly built on the spot when he asked me for them in a convo... sorry qsns) when I posted that anyone who asked me for TR squads could have them since I would never use them. Turns out he was either expecting it or just decided to use the "check ct" of Venu + Scarftom + LandoI + Aegis + Talon + Scrafty. Jesus christ that team is fucking AIDS to deal with as fullroom. The matchup's nigh on impossible to deal with and even with an extremely significant amount of hax in my favor I only barely managed to pull things into a 50/50. Still, I really like this team because while I did feel like it was sleep-weak, when I tested with it I actually ended up playing against a large amount of Brelooms and Amoonguss but still doing p alright which was cool.

So I didn't actually play this match but I made the team and had to be subbed out because of scheduling conflict so fuck it might as well talk about the team. Deoxys speed played this match beautifully like holy fuck no wonder he gets all dat ass but anyways..

Team was based around Deoxys Speed's "fuck it my opponent always brings shit weak to Diancie+Jirachi+Conk" that he's used a lot. I ended up expanding this to a Salamence, Talonflame, and Thundurus because I had just watched Salamence absolutely destroy balance compositions so it looked really good. Like nothing is enjoying any aspect of that water/fire/dragon coverage. I think in the actual match Deo brought something like Electric Plate Thundurus and Taunt on it, but I'm not too sure. IT's something we talked about a bit and I told him to change whatever he felt like so yeah.

Hide tags are lame for shoutouts so fuck it

Thanks to thetalkingtree , Yoda2798 , Hashtag and thebagman for being there time and time again every time I wanted to test. I focused on you four for testing more heavily than you can know, and frankly would have gotten nowhere if it weren't for your continual support. Your insights and suggestions helped me a ton when I was building and testing.

finally - without you I don't think I would have even gotten drafted. Thanks for putting out a good word for me and helping me a lot throughout the weeks, and for being a great guy n~n

deoxys speed I really enjoyed working with you weeks 5 to the end. IT was a lot of fun, and while I wish you hadn't been so shafted by really bad hax, unfortunately that's the reality of the hand we were dealt. Still, it was tons of fun to work closely with you

Pearl and Colbrushie Thanks so much for the continual support n~n and for helping me understand all the singles drama/plays that were going on when I didn't know what the fuck was happening. I really appreciated your support and you made the tournament much more enjoyable.

qsns n~n sorry I haxed the shit out of you, but just casually chatting as we were playing made the game so much less stressful, and truly was my favorite battle.

Croven , Nido-Rus , n10sit , shaian for also helping me to test

KyleCole for having a good Youtube and also telling me he was helping Qsns rather than just taking my teams and running week 8

and of course

Stratos I know we don't get along the best but I think things are a lot better than people might suppose. Also we both had the same idea going into salty suite, which was a lot of fun in the midseason for me. Keep doing you and come back to Smogon (no but seriously come back)

If you have any questions or anything to share, go ahead n~n

Grats on a decently successful first season, even if you didn't end up positive you proved that you were worth being drafted so I'm proud of you :3
