ARENA: ASB Tournament Arena

Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fans, the ASB Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about fifteen feet wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is eighty feet wide, one hundred feet long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than sixty feet). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle.
smashlloyd20's Pokemon:

Tag [Lampent] Male
Mild Nature (+1 * Special Attack, -1 * Defense)

Ghost: Ghost STAB; brief intangibility that nullifies Normal and Fighting-type attacks, Pain Split, Psychic, Sucker Punch, Telekinesis, Trick, and Will-o-Wisp have Energy Cost reduced by one (1). (Gengar line and pure Ghosts only: moving through walls.)
Fire: Fire STAB; immune to burn, 50% reduction in freeze chance, emit a low glow in dark places, takes additional damage if active open flames are exposed to a water attack. Solarbeam has Energy Cost reduced by one (1).

Flame Body: (Innate) This Pokemon’s external temperature is kept at such a high level that any contact attack used on this Pokemon has a 30% chance of burning the opponent.
Flash Fire: (Innate) This Pokemon thrives in high temperatures, and takes the energy of any fire attack, nullifies the damage, and uses the additional power to boost its own fire attack’s Base Attack Power by two (2).
Shadow Tag: (DW Innate) Upon entry into battle, this Pokemon’s Shadow expands across the arena and dissipates, forcing opposing Pokemon to stay within 10 meters of this Pokemon. The Shadow entirely negates the ability to switch for every Pokemon except those who also have Shadow Tag.

The first ASB tournament may have come to an end, but the arena owners generously allow trainers to battle on it, and on this fine, sunny day, we see two trainers, smashlloyd20 and Lady Salamence, just doing that. LS, being the one who posted the match up, throws her Pokeball up in the air, and out pops her Tepig, Van Pig! Smashlloyd strokes his chin for a few seconds before sending out his Lampent, Tag. Both Pokemon's STAB attacks are useless against each other, so it looks like they will need to resort to something more trickier if they want the upper hand.

Pop! That is the sound of the referee's gun, indicating the start of this match! Although both Pokemon are pretty slow, Tag reacts faster to the gunshot than Van Pig, who flinches at the sound- bacon is a delicacy even in the Pokemon world, and Van Pig had more than a few nasty encounters with hunters. Tag's two tentacles start to glow very oddly, but the light that they emit is sooooo pretty. It appears to be a Confuse Ray! Van Pig quickly Protects himself from the imminent burst of light by quickly looking away.

Tag scowls a bit at his failure. He needs to use a different technique. Its a shame that Tag can't scorch the pig with his mighty Fire attacks, he thinks to himself. But wait! The Lampent suddenly gets a bright idea. His tentacles start to glow again, but this time, they glow dark red, and shoot a powerful beam right at the sky. The beam reacts with the atmoshphere by clearing away all clouds and creating an intense Sunny Day for four rounds. Van Pig doesn't mind, though- he could use a tan. Instead, the pig leaps into the air and slams into a ground, creating a shockwave of magnitude 9! Ouch! Tag winces as the shockwaves shake and rattle him.

However, Tag quickly recovers from the attack. With the intensified heat, his Fire moves will cause quite a bit of damage even if it isn't very effective. Tag opens his mouth and spits out an enormous ball of fire- a Fire Blast attack! Van Pig quickly realizes what is going on and creates a Protective shield around him. The fireball knocks him several feet back, but he escapes unscathed.

Van Pig: Protects against Confuse Ray. Costs 7 energy.
Tag: Attempts to use Confuse Ray. Fails. Costs 5 energy.

Tag: Uses Sunny Day. The sunlight will be intense for four (4) rounds! Costs 10 energy.
Van Pig: Uses Magnitude. The earthquake hits a magnitude of 9! Deals 20 damage. Costs 6 energy.

Van Pig: Protects against Fire Blast. Costs 9 (7 + 14/3) energy.
Tag: Attempts to use Fire Blast. Fails. Costs 7 energy.

Sunny Day (3 rounds)

Our last round was pretty stall-ish, so let's see if things start to pick up this time. Tag hasn't managed to land one single hit on Van Pig so far, however, that won't discourage him! He quickly curls himself into a ball while his tentacles wave around haphazardly, creating a large flash of light that is Confuse Ray. Unfortunately for Van Pig, the attack catches him by surprise, and the sudden burst of light gives him severe confusion. Wobbling, Van Pig suddenly sees five Lampents instead of one. Which one is the real one? Van Pig decides not to take any chances and furiously stomps the ground with a Magnitude so powerful it hits a 9! Poor Tag is quickly shaken furiously as the shockwaves ram into him.

A bead of ghostly sweat starts to drop from Tag's face. The intense heat from the sunlight isn't helping him much either, even for a Fire-type. It apparently is time for Tag to take advantage of that heat. He huffs, he puffs, and out comes a roaring ball of fire. The Fire Blast explodes into a Kanji right at the Tepig's face, a critical hit, it appears, sending him back even closer to the treacherous water moat. Despite not having any open flames, he would really rather try to avoid falling there. Van Pig is impressed at the power of Tag's move, but he does not show it- rather, he Yawns quite loudly over the arena. Tag silently curses as he starts to feel groggy, but musters enough energy to fire off another Fire Blast. Although not a critical hit, the attack worsens Van Pig's headache. He attempts to fire off another Magnitude, but ends up falling on his face. This appears to snap him out of confusion, though.

Tag: Confuse Ray on Van Pig. Inflicts severe confusion (3 actions). Costs 5 energy.
Van Pig: Magnitude on Tag. Hits a 9 on the Richard Scale! Deals 20 damage. Costs 6 energy.
Tag: Fire Blast on Van Pig. Critical hit! Deals 16 damage. Costs 7 energy.

Tag: Fire Blast on Van Pig. Deals 14 damage. Costs 9 energy.
Van Pig: Hits himself for 7 damage. Costs 3 energy. Snaps out of confusion.

Sunny Day (2 rounds)

Tag is struggling with all his might to keep his eyes open, but he just keeps getting drowsier and drowsier. With his eyelids falling, Tag manages to create another Confuse Ray blast before falling asleep. Unfortunately for him, Van Pig anticipates this, and quickly sets up a protective barrier around him, shielding him from the light. Van Pig then quickly jumps in the air and curls up in the ball, rolling counter-clockwise rapidly. As he falls back onto the ground, Van Pig stays in place for a second before rapidly rolling out away from the moat and right into Tag's face! The impact sends Tag a-flying 20 feet away and quickly wakes the ghost up from his short nap. It looks like Tag was having a really nice dream in the short time he was asleep, 'cause now Tag is flaming mad. His jaw opens and spits out another Fire Blast at Van Pig. Van Pig has gotten used to these, apparently, and he quickly curls himself up for a slightly more powerful Rollout, knocking Tag back quite a bit. Meanwhile, the intense sunlight slowly starts to dim...

Sunny Day (1 round)

Tag is quietly mumbling to himself. With only 23 HP left, it is clear that Van Pig has the upper advantage. He needs to buy some time! Tag decides to stall things out with another Confuse Ray blast. This time, Van Pig is too tired to shield himself and doesn't even try to avert his eyes from the pretty multi-colored light. Unfortunately for him, being exposed to Confuse Ray so many times made Van Pig very vulnerable towards the attack, as the light inflicts severe confusion against the poor Tepig. It looks like he will be seeing stars for about four rounds. However, despite Van Pig's sudden blurry vision, he charges straight at Tag with another Rollout. Tag is too weak to jump out of the way and gets thrown back by the move.

Feeling his strength fading away, Tag knows that he does not have much time to waste. Van Pig is ready to attack again, so Tag quickly uses Minimize and shrinks himself. This surprises Van Pig, and with his blurry vision, his Rollout attack misses Tag by a mile! (sort of) Feeling confident, Tag attempts to further shrink himself with another Minimize. Unfortunately, he can't! Minimize's effect is permanent until the user is switched out, and until then, it can't be used again. Tag does not need to worry, though- Van Pig hits a wall and damages himself from confusion. The sun, meanwhile, finally fades away.

Tag: Confuse Ray on Van Pig. Costs 5 energy. Van Pig is suffering from intense confusion for 4 actions!
Van Pig: Rollout on Tag. Deals 16 damage. Costs 11 (5 + 2 + 4) energy.

Tag: Uses Minimize. Costs 9 energy. Tag has permanent +1 evasion now.
Van Pig: Uses Rollout, but misses. Costs 11 (5 + 6) energy.

Tag: Attempts to use Minimize, but fails (Minimize's effect lasts throughout the battle, but you can only use it once smashlloyd!). Costs 11 (9 + 2) energy.
Van Pig: Hits himself for 7 damage. Costs 3 energy.

Tag's health is in critical condition. With only 7 HP left, will he make it? Normally, the answer would be "no". However, Tag does have a permanent +1 evasion, and Van Pig's energy level is dangerously low. Tag realizes that he has a slim chance of surviving, and decides to fire up a Sunny Day- he will need this to deal severe damage with his fire moves. Van Pig, meanwhile, can't get the stars out of his head! He crashes into a wall, which deals minor damage but snaps him out of confusion. Tag, relaxing for a bit, decides to chill out- his energy level is almost out. Bad mistake. Despite feeling woozy, Van Pig somehow sends electricity coursing throughout his body, and in a Wild Charge, rams into Tag. Both Pokemon fall into the moat, where the electricity causes a massive surge of lighting throughout the arena. Tag doesn't feel any pain, though- the impact itself knocked him out.

Tag: Sunny Day. The sunlight is intense! Costs 10 energy.
Van Pig: Hits himself for 4 damage. Costs 3 energy. Loses confusion.

Tag: Chills. Regains 12 energy.
Van Pig: Wild Charge on Tag. KO! Costs 6 energy.
