SMITE

Have any of you had leavers in your games so far? I've played 3 6 games and have always had someone on my team leave.

I like playing Ymir so far, but I'm still trying to get the hang of his ult, there's very little stopping them from leaving the circle during the channel time.

Also, if you would like a key, message me.

.

i always frost breath before comboing on the ult, makes it much easier to land. don't blow it in 1v1 situations though, it's far too useful in teamfights to be squandered on single targets.

reviving this thread because this game needs more love

I just started playing this the other day, and I must say it is a fantastic game. If anyone wants to add me, my ign is Walrein. Any tips would also be appreciated!

MOBAs are an emergent genre Byrne, we've seen many attempts at them outside of Dota and LoL. Competition breeds innovation, and Smite offers a completely new dynamic with its 3rd person perspective.

there is literally no other difference besides the fucking camera angle. at least like fucking FPS games try to make up new modes, new guns, new and unique maps...nope, this game takes League of Legends and puts it in third person. That's it. Even the lobby screen is exactly the same lol

All ranged moves are skill shots, including basic attacks.
Basic attacks are not the same thing as auto attacks, opponents are never locked onto.
Characters drastically slow down when spamming basic attacks.
Kiting is a whole different ball game, consisting of circle strafing and not micro.
3rd person perspective allows you to sneak up on opponents in ways that new Evelynn would envy.

These are the fundamental differences that makes the game play entirely different, I cannot imagine you've played it if you think it is "literally" the same. But then there is;

3x as many different jungle buffs (something I really like), and it's pretty easy for any character to jungle.
Much easier to get the money to purchase a competent item build consistently, which meant that in every game I could carry without being dragged down by randoms.
Item leveling removes the early game vs. end game aspect of item strategy (I am mixed about this but it is different).

Also the lobby is not exactly the same, if you were right you might not have to resort to hyperbole and frankly bad priorities (lobby is not gameplay). Stop being a butthurt fanboy, it does not help the moba community.

The funny thing is that I'm not a fanboy in any sense of the word. I enjoyed League of Legends for about two months, but I do not play it or any other MOBA game any more. I lost interest completely.

The fact that your argument that this game is unique is on things as minute as "Characters drastically slow down when spamming basic attacks." is fucking embarrassing. The only defaults of the MOBA genre is that you have a team and you have to destroy a base. This game decided to take every single fundamental aspect of LoL and the like's gameplay and use it too, and the only difference is the camera angle and bull crap like "all ranged moves are now skill shots WE R UNIQUE!!!"

It's stupid. It's plagiarism. It's not worth my time. You can like it if you want, but that's doesn't mean the developers of this game aren't unimaginative twats that steal the entirety of their game's gameplay from others.

ooh look this thread got revived

I am a huge fan of this game, i have little to none experience in LoL and due to my shitass internet i have rarely been playing this, but i think its really fun, though i genuinely suck shit at at. If anyone wants to add me in VintageBooks ingame.

You want to actually refute the argument instead of just insulting it? No?

I guess in 2 months of LoL you never played an AD Carry. If this was true of LoL, the meta would drastically change.

I admit it I was wrong. You aren't a fanboy in any sense of the word. You don't understand the genre and in your ignorance these games look alike. I just don't understand why you are still indignant about it.

The only weird thing about Smite is that they didn't put it on a console, which would play to the strengths of the different mechanics.

new modes, new guns, new and unique maps

-name me a mode in first person shooters that isn't team deathmatch, ffa, capture the flag, or survival waveclearing (or some slight variation of those)

-if one is to equate guns to heroes/champions/whatever you wanna call them, then yes, the champions are completely different. there are different items as well

-summoners rift=/=smite's map

MOBAs are a genre. Smite falls within the genre. This does not make it a copy of other MOBAs. Is Sonic the Hedgehog a copy of Super Mario bros because in both games you run to the right and jump across platforms to reach the end of a level?

edit: If anyone wants to discuss the game, join me at #smote on synIRC.

Battlefield 3 has Rush.

Halo Reach has Oddball.

Modern Warfare 2 has Kill Confirmed, Headquarters Pro.

fair

-summoners rift=/=smite's map

...because one is square and the other one has a cooler shape? the smite maps has a few alternate routes that aren't present on Summoner's Rift but other than that?????

No, because Sonic the Hedgehog has numerous drastic differences from Super Mario Bros. Smite has a handful of VERY slight gameplay differences from DOTA/LOL and a camera angle change. Significantly different situations.

Regarding the maps:

League's map has three turrets per lane and 2 additional turrets protecting the nexus.
Smite has 2 turrets per lane and no turrets protecting the minotaur.

Notice the convoluted pathways inbetween the lanes? That's the jungle. Smite and LoL have completely different jungles, containing completely different monsters, meaning that the ganking dynamic is different from game to game.

Speaking of the jungle, every jungle camp in smite is a buff, while LoL only has two. There is also no Baron Nashor in Smite.

In smite, the inhibs and nexus can FUCKING KILL YOU.

Regarding my Mario-Sonic analogy, the list of differences is not that much more extensive than between LoL and Smite. The main difference is "sonic runs fast", which is not a huge innovation.

I don't really think its that much of a big deal that this is similar to LoL. They have taken a popular type of gameplay and given their own spin on it with a few changes.
