This is my team, BORKastle United! A name thought up after about 5 seconds. It's to do with my team, Newcastle United being relegated into the Championship and the whole circus surrounding my football club. Anyway... onto the players.
Goalkeepers
Given
Reina
Well, obviously as a Newcastle fan I think Shay Given is a fantastic goalkeeper, probably the best in the Premiership IMO. We were just lucky to hold onto him for as long as we did. He's a great reaction goalkeeper and general shot stopper. He does come with some injury issues but hopefully he'll have a good season with City.
My other goalkeeper was a toss up between Schwarzer and Reina... I went with Reina in the end. Schwarzer is getting on a bit and reckon he's more injury prone than Reina.
Defenders
Lescott
Hangeland
Upson
Turner
Baines
I tried not to buy any really big money defenders here, and went fo a couple of players who I thought had outstanding seasons last year. Hangeland of Fulham was immense at the back, and Turner of Hull was easily their best player last year.
Lescott or Terry...sound familiar? No I'm not some Arab Sheik, just deciding which central defender I want to partner Hangeland! I went with Lescott in the end, only because of the pricetag. I'm pretty sure I can rely on him to start most, if not all of Everton/Man City's matches this season.
Upson was a pretty cheap buy, and an England international, alongside Lescott. He's a bit hit or miss though, so I might switch him about a bit with Baines. He was my last player to buy with the leftover money I had.
Midfielders
Murphy (C)
Milner
Carrick
Alonso
Noble
My midfield is dogged and scrappy, with a touch of class. Danny Murphy, my team captain, was the first on my list. He was rolling back the years to his Liverpool days last season with Fulham, controlling their midfield and giving being the hub of all their moves.
Carrick or Alonso would sit alongside Murphy, probably both as I only have one true winger. Hopefully though Alonso won't bugger off to Real Madrid...
Milner's going to be a great England player, I am sure of it. Already rustling a few feathers in the U21, he had a great European Championship over the summer for, guiding England into the Final (damn Germans .-.).
Forwards
Tevez
Crouch
Agbonlahor
Tevez, yes I know...but at least it I didn't choose Robinh, who I still think is the most overrated player in the Premiership. Maybe he can prove me wrong this season as he might actually have to play for a place in the starting lineup. Anyway, Tevez was pretty cheap...probably because he only scored about 8 goals last season and didn't play regularly. I think he will get at least 20 this season and a regular in the City first team.
CROUCHY BABY! Who doesn't love Peter Crouch? I sure do. I couldn't NOT buy him... He's linking up with Defoe again at Spurs so I'm sure he'll grab a netfull of goals this season, and probably set up a few.
Agbonlahor is my final striker, and the 9th Englishman in my squad. He didn't have the best season.. or rather he ran out of steam from about February onwards. Hopefully he'll be fresh and ready to run again for Villa this year.
