Smogon Simple Questions & Suggestions Thread

As a badgeholder am I allowed to use spo.ink for for things unrelated to smogon?
From chaos:

Rules: for the most part, feel free to use spo.ink as you please, it's a "badgeholder perk" I guess lol. I must ask that you don't automate adding links to spo.ink. Especially do not write a system that allows non-badgeholders to add links! It is fine however to manually shorten links for non-badgeholder friends.

Short answer: yes go ahead

Is it possible to quote posts on a locked thread (while replying to an open thread, of course)?
The BBcode for a quoted post is this:
Code:

As long as you have the correct numbers you shouldn't have problems with locked threads. To my knowledge we don't have restrictions on this.

Why do some people have I Could Be Banned tags? Is it a reference I don’t know about?

it's not an inside joke or reference, this is a title added by smogon staff to users who are close to getting banned from smogon due to repeated infractions:

The Punishments

Smogon's punishments are called warnings / infractions. Infractions are given for various rule-breaking offenses. They can be worth 1 to 3 points and last 21 to 90 days depending on the offense and severity of each case. If someone is caught repeating the same offense, a 90 day Repeated Offense warning is given. On top of this, 4 point permanent infractions can be given out. These do not expire and function as a permanent ban.

If you receive 3 points total at any time, you will be moved to the "I COULD BE BANNED!", or ICBB, usergroup, which will entail reduced posting rights, in addition to a visible title showing your decreased status in the community. If you receive 4 (non-permanent) points total at any time, you will be banned until one of the 4 points expires.

Is there anyway I can get my password reset on Pokemon showdown? My username is ewisko (same as smogon) but for some reason it refuses to accept the password I’ve been using for 5+ years ish now and idk why.

So, there's something Very Small that I think might be pretty cool

What about a Feature where we can Like Profile Posts? (Exactly like Threads)
We had this very early on in xenForo's lifetime, but there were pockets of users who would spam liking profile posts of each other and of random users (iirc) so the ability was disabled.

I recently re-logged into my forum account recently after a few years of inactivity, and I was greeted with this in my Direct Messages that was apparently sent around a year-ish after I went inactive. My account doesn't seem very banned currently, and I have no idea what this could be referring to, seeing as neither of these things apply to my account. Should I be concerned? Should I just forget about it? (I dummied out the identity of the sender mostly, but I can show the uncensored version if need be)

The user who sent that message had been hacked at the time, much like many others. You need not worry about it.

why couldn't we just disable the points garnered from profile posts? or coding limitations? also, a question regarding tiering, as the tiering philosophy changed throughout time, why have we never bothered to revamp the complex bans of past gens?

There is no difference between a like across various subforums and profiles, either they're all worth no points or all worth points.

Because past gen metagames are still actively being played, they're not museum pieces that need to be restored to some level of current standards. That's not to say they get free reign to do whatever nowadays, it's just a bit more lax.

Would it be possible to create an official thread where people can ask for help testing specific mechanics on the cartridge? For example, I'm fixing the interaction between Sparkling Aria and Shield Dust, but I'm not sure about one mechanic. This task requires two systems, so not many people will likely be able to do it alone if I just ask in the mechanics research thread.

In this new thread, I could simply post something like: "I need help testing the interaction between Sparkling Aria and Shield Dust. I need someone to bring a Pokémon with Sparkling Aria and another Pokémon with filler moves. I'll handle the rest. I'll be available until [insert time]." If someone is willing to help, they could post a message on my wall.

You could place this thread near the mechanics research thread or the bug report thread.

PS - If someone has a Pokémon with Sparkling Aria and a Pokémon with Shield Dust and is willing to help, please post a message on my wall :bloblul:

There is a mechanics research discord server that DaWoblefet heads, he can prob hook you up with an invite.

Hey! I am new to competitive Pokemon and I am having a little trouble finding formats I like. I couldn't find a resource that explains or searches through formats besides just clicking through them all and I haven't gotten anywhere with that so I wanted to ask if the format I have in mind exists.

I am a little picky but I generally like gen 6 and earlier. I also really like some of the updated movesets to older pokemon in the newer games but don't vibe with the newer pokemon or metagame. I play pokemmo so I am looking for a format similar to theirs.

Basically I want gen 5 or 6 and older with updated movesets. Mega evolution would be cool too but I can live without it.

If this exists or if there is a better way to search through formats please let me know!
