it might not, although there is literally a subforum for tier lists in OI, albeit seemingly with a more "viability in-game" slant — if they're wanted anywhere (big if) it's OI. it's definitively not cong (forum req is specifically nothing pokemon)

structure in OI is a good thing, sure, but if there's no room for those threads there and they aren't wanted in smogoff, then maybe there's a gap in OI

this is part of the reason i made this a thread in is — this discussion spills out into more general subforum bracket stuff. smogoff is still a new sub but i feel like it has found its feet and i dont think its core is pokemon tier lists (they get locked, they're p much all the same, feel like spam, etc), where i know vF had concerns about cong being pigeon-holed as the Strict Discussion forum. to some extent this touches on revisiting how well the forums are going, their identities, etc

So we've already modified it quite a bit in terms of the space each forum category takes up. I believe the forum description is also listed once you click on the forum itself, so it's not like hovering is the only way you can view the forum description.

Seeing as we've already modified the base xf2 style quite a bit, It's probably doable from a technical standpoint. I do think we'll continue to have this sort of problem regardless, as it's often newer users who make these sort of mistakes and probably don't spend too much time looking in to what's allowed and what's not (see the OU and various analyses subforums). It's also not the biggest thing to have to deal with as a mod + it's not like it's a structural issue where even experienced users are confused.

that seems like good news, that we might be able to append the subforum descriptions upfront

i agree that it's mostly newer users that have just found their way to the wrong subs, although that brings me back around to the naming problem, really — there just ought to be a catch-all for "pokemon general", if it isn't OI, and if it is OI, i think the in-universe name without any extra labelling isn't doing the forum any favours

like i said, i understand it's a small fix for a mod to move, but since it's recurrent it's always nice to tackle things at the source

It's worth pointing out that the type of tier list dump threads that are found in Smogoff are against the rules of Orange Islands:

Tier list threads that are just "what's your favourite starter" or "ranking the games!!" happen occasionally and are swiftly locked, and as someone who's active in OI, I wouldn't have it any other way. From time to time topics where people share tier lists happen in other threads there and the discussion is extremely dry and well, non-existent, it's just users getting up on a soap box and shouting their opinion that no one really cares about. While it is a gap in OI that these threads don't exist there, it's not so much a gap in the market as an intentional omission.

So currently Smogoff is the best forum for these types of threads. If you don't want them there either, then they just don't have a place on this site, it's not particularly useful to try to push them into another subforum that already has explicitly banned them. The shitpost subforum seems like the best place for these sorts of threads that don't promote any discussion if we want them on the site somewhere.

Stuff like this has been discussed in the social forums mod discord, where I feel like most productive discussion and changes will take place and where the changes Cong has already taken in terms of the new clubs and such stemmed from. I don't believe it is discussion that really needs to be had in IS.

Much like tier names, some forum names are part of their identity and I think it's not something that's going to change.

I don't think they are that wanted overall, no. But, I wouldn't call Smogoff a shitpost forum by any means, it's a casual forum that's not as serious, but there's also been plenty of ambitious projects like The Well and smogoff amoonguss.
 
understood — i tend to like a discussion where people can read and pitch in if its a forum they use, but knowing the social mods in discord have it in hand is good, too

also re: these threads being unwanted in OI: fair enough! certainly wasn't just trying to funnel junk over to you. bear in mind the tier list threads are just one sort of thread im talking about that doesn't feel right in cong and smogoff

How likely could it be to have an OM a meta that is basically the same but you can't use U-turn, Volt Switch, Flip Turn or teleport?

I like grabbing momentum as much as the other guy but I miss when Pokemon was switch or attack, not both

I mean last time I logged in (a while ago) i remember there being a like button or something like that, but when I logged in today there just isn't any button like that anymore.

There isn’t right now, but I think this is a great idea! If I were to suggest something, then perhaps in the Information & Resources or Announcements subforum there could be a thread that hosts post a link to signups in. That way we can watch the thread and be alerted of a new post.
 
you can search slowly, but I don't think there are videos of a season that was played years ago (if by videos or logs you mean).
 
how do you post sw/sh sprites (like the ones in the ou viability rankings) without having to manually save a picture?
like : bulbasaur : is :bulbasaur:, but with the new sprites

whereas prefixing it with a generation's two-letter code adds that generation's full-size sprite / 3D model. E.g. :dp/bulbasaur: inserts Bulbasaur's DPP sprite, and :sm/bulbasaur: adds its SM model.

Sorry, just checked the thread now. All of the ones in the OU viability thread are from Serebii. Specifically, url's like
https://serebii.net/pokedex-swsh/icon/748.png for Toxapex, where the numbers are the dex numbers.

You can find them easier by going to pages such as these and copying the URLs to the images https://www.serebii.net/pokedex-swsh/poison.shtml

smogon doesn't support these sprites on its own, but you can use image tags to pull them from other sites. for example, serebii uses these natively, so if you want to use

you can do:

which avoids saving and reattaching every single sprite, just need to change the dex number.
