New York, New York. That's what they call it--a beehive made from green papers and concrete. Half asleep, you walk creaking and rotting steps down from your studio and squeeze into a subway car full of fat and sweat, sneaking glances at your watch because as much as you hate your job, you can't afford to be fired just yet. At 8am sharp, you plop down your backpack and collapse into your chair, desperate already for the day to be over. You look around your coworkers and some of them are fine enough people, you think to yourself. But the rest are just mediocre--destined to be gutted at the next performance review. It's none of your business where they end up anyhow. The city is an arena built for the ruthless.
In your first tribal challenge, we have designed a simulation of bike racing strategy. Though we will only be looking at the fastest individuals, tribal strategy around energy management and drafting will be crucial in helping one or two of your tribemates to achieve the fastest possible time.
A tick lasts 15 minutes. The gamestate updates each tick publicly.
The racecourse is 400 units long. A player who has travelled a distance longer than 250 units is considered to have passed the finish line.
Each player begins with 3 pedal usages. Pedalling expends a pedal usage. Each player may pedal up to twice each tick, and there is no upper bound on the number of pedal usages stored.
There are four lanes, which players can switch freely between.
Players "draft" when, before locations update, they are exactly one unit of distance behind someone else in the same lane. If a player is drafting, then they gain one pedal usage.
Players advance 1 unit each tick naturally, 2 if they are drafting. If they use 1 pedal that tick, then there is a 2x multiplier on their distance travelled. If they use 2 pedals that tick (which is the maximum), then there is a 5x multiplier on their distance travelled.
The first three people from different tribes to cross the finish line will win immunity for their tribes. The other five tribes will attend tribal council. In the event of a tie, the first tribe with two players crossing the finish line will win, followed by three, etc.
Bot commands (must be used in your confessional):
!pedalnow - expends a pedal usage to increase your distance travelled that tick. This action may not be reversed. You can pedal up to a maximum of two times each tick.
!checkstatus - returns your current distance, pedal usages that tick, pedal usages remaining, and lane
!lane1 - changes your lane to lane 1
!lane2 - changes your lane to lane 2
!lane3 - changes your lane to lane 3
!lane4 - changes your lane to lane 4
We will update #racetrack every tick with a list of players with their distance travelled, pedal usages remaining, and lane.
Good luck! The race starts at 8PM EST.
EDIT: Hotfixed finish line distance to 250 units, from 400
