#smogonvgc Live Tournament Week 4 - Suicune

Hi everyone, in an effort to promote activity here in the VGC subforum, we'll be holding a practice tournament this Friday at 5 pm US central time (GMT -6). If this tournament goes over well enough, we'll do more like it and hopefully have more fun stuff for everyone. This week, we'll be giving away a Bold Suicune (soft reset by yours truly) to everyone that enters the tournament to use in future live tournaments, or one of the many premier challenges being held across the US (and the world?).

This week, either Professor Birch or myself will be running the bracket, so send your PMs to us when you see us on IRC! Additionally, you can pester TheMantyke and Laurel to add you to the bracket.

The rules are simple:
  • Flat Doubles, pentagon Pokemon ONLY. Basic VGC rules here, folks. If it's not allowed on ORAS Battle Spot, it isn't allowed here.
  • For the purpose of having the tournament run on time, strategies such as Minimize are STRONGLY discouraged. Id' like to keep this tournament fun and fast; these strategies are neither.
  • Competitors will need a copy of Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire to enter.
  • The tournament will be Swiss, best of one with a top cut that will be determined by how many people enter (or depending on time constraints)
  • Each round will last a maximum of 30 minutes. If the match is not completed within the timeframe, it will be up to the host to decide who wins or who loses.
  • If there is a disconnection, it will be up to the host to decide who wins or who loses. Make sure to have a camera handy to get some proof if you're nervous about this.
  • Since this is a non-weighted practice tournament, you may change your team between rounds. However, it might be better practice for you not to do so.
  • You must join the IRC channel #smogonvgc in order to participate. PM whoever is running the tournament your username and friend code to enter. Make sure to join the chat and register early! The link will be provided at the end of this post.

This week, we'll be giving away Dapper Dan the ORAS-caught Suicune. Since Cresselia somehow managed to become less of a threat this year (though a threat nonetheless), Suicune can actually give it some competition due to its access to speed control in Tailwind and Icy Wind, its bulk and typing, and its ability to consistently check such Pokemon as Landorus-T, Talonflame, and Heatran.

So even if you're not confident in your skills or your team, remember that this is just for practice and that you're getting a free Suicune and stop by #smogonvgc this Friday to show your support for VGC on Smogon! I hope to see you then!

HOW TO RECEIVE TERRAKION:
  • Step 1: Catch a Baltoy
  • Step 2: Offer the Baltoy for a Suicune on the GTS. If you haven't registered Suicune in your Pokedex yet, you can type its name in at the bottom.
  • Step 3: Enter your username that you entered the tournament with in the message box, or simply put #smogonvgc. If you don't do this, you'll be ignored!
  • Step 4: Refresh the GTS to receive your Suicune. Enjoy!
PS: it's hard to believe that this has been going on for almost a month now! let's keep it up!
 
I'll be around to help distribute suicunes again, though I'm not sure if I'll have the time to participate.

also guys, i'm looking for more cloners that can be available during the tournament and legendary donations to give out during future tournaments (i only have so many legends of my own to give out ;_;). pm me if you're interested in helping out!
 
Not sure, but does that 30 in Defense used for a Hidden Power? If not, I have a Bold Suicune that is 31/x/31/31/31/31 if you'd prefer.

Edit: Wow I'm dumb, 30/31 are the same stat at level 50 :P

Double Edit: Signing up for Challonge is extremely helpful. The tournament pretty much becomes self running if everyone has an account.

This is only half true. A 30 IV and 31 only yield the same stat when you don't invest EVs in them. At lvl 50 each statpoint requires 8 EVs, except for the first stat point in a stat with an odd IV, which requires only 4 EVs, all statpoints after also require 8 EVs.
Considering the suicune is bold it's very likely that one would want to invest in its defense meaning that a 31/x/31/31/31/31 Suicune will have one more statpoint than a 31/x/30/31/31/31 Suicune in most cases. This difference is ofcourse pretty small but still noticeable.

Also good to see you moved from Tentacools to Baltoys, now I don't have to waste master balls catching Tentacools in a hurry. Dexnav'ing for a good Baltoy for my ingame team actually pays off.

I much prefer using baltoys for giveaways because there's FAR fewer other people using them, fewer people trading them, and they're also at the top of the list which speeds things up a bunch

I know, but I like the fact that the crappy Baltoys I caught will actually have a use now :)
 
Signed up! Really enjoying these, plus its keeping me in the house on a Friday night instead of going out and spending a fortune on beer and cheap women! :D

Oh, and if you ever run out of pokemon, I have a 31/x/31/31/29/4 Relaxed Cress you can clone (though ik cress is kinda nonexistant, but hey it's good for trick room)
 
I probably wont get a chance to participate in this one because of the Battle for the Hoenn and my team/item overlap and battle box locking. I do want the Suicune though... I love this series, good luck to those participating.

I have a thundy from a giveaway, I didn't check but it was said that his hp is ice, he's timid 30/30/30/31/31/31 252 EV spattack 252EV speed lv50 in masterball named IM BEAMIN

Pretty cool. Hey, how is your luck with Heatran? I almost got the 5 IV but obviously the game hated me and gave me 8 HP -_-
