Overview:

Same pokemon, new setting. Snorlax is always being a contender in every gen, but every gen adds new monsters for him to compete with. He's that slow lazy offensive special tank that he's always been. He gets Heavy Bomber to play with, but he's basically the same as he's always been, which isn't necessarily a great thing. Snorlax was struggling a bit in DP as his stab is commonly resisted by a multitude of types and the opposition was hitting harder. Fighting moves like Close combat did not make his job easier and with High Jump kick's improvements it's going to be even harder for Snorlax to stay in the game. Mischeavious heart pokemon are running around now to give Snorlax a hard time, and the Dream world has given man old pokemon new legs, but given Snorlax nothing significant. It's going to be a rough journey ahead for Snorlax.

Movesets

Curse
Snorlax @ leftovers
Thick Fat
EVs.:188 HP / 104 Def / 216 SpD
Careful nature

~ Curse
~ Body Slam / Return
~ Earthquake / Crunch / Fire Punch / Heavy Bomber
~ Rest/Heavy Bomber

Stick at what your good at. Slow speed, good attack, and defenses that could use a boost. Snorlax isn't caring about lowering speed so why not give him Curse? Heavy Bomber is a new option for Snorlax, though the steel typing won't get him far.

Tank
Snorlax @ leftovers
Thick Fat
EVs.:252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Adament/Impish nature

~ Body Slam / Return
~ Crunch / Heavy Bomber
~ Earthquake
~ Fire Punch

Capitalize on Snorlax bulkiness to take Special hits and then dish damage back out.

Belly Drum
Snorlax @ Sitrus/Lum/Custap Berry
Gluttony/Thick Fat
EVs.:252 HP / 104 Attack / 216 SpD
Adamant/Impish nature

~Belly Drum
~Earthquake / Heavy Bomber/ Crunch
~Return
~Fire Punch / Crunch/ Rest/ Substitute

Why Sitrus Berry? After Belly Drum Snorlax will gain back 25% of his hp back to 75% hp, that's if he's not attacked that turn. Starting his sweep off of 75% hp though it's really an excuse to give Gluttony a purpose. Lum Berry can bring him back to full hp after a rest as well and Snorlax doesn't have the speed to run a salac. Otherwise your just Drumming and sweeping

The Curse set has been good in the past, but with the popularity of Erufuun among others, it probably will not be too reliable. A Choice Band set still has its uses:

Snorlax @ Choice Band
Adamant
252 HP / 252 ATK / 4 DEF

~Body Slam / Heavy Bomber
~Pursuit
~Earthquake
~Fire Punch / Crunch / Selfdestruct

Where is the Drum set? Any mon with access to it should have a token Drummer moveset.

With TR likely being the new anti-metagame team, I could see good old Lax being quite common. Great bulk, 2 great resistances through Thick Fat, Curse, all puts him on the radar as being one of the better TR sweepers.

Also, remember Fire Blast is always an option for Skarm.

You showed it in one of your movesets, but you failed to mention that munchlax now gets selfdestruct as an egg move, which is pretty significant in my books.

Problem is, Steel is just a bad attacking type. It just seems like a wasted moveslot.

Snorlax has the same problem he had 4th gen - in gens 1-3 the game played slowly enough that a big tank like Lax could Amnesia up, Curse up, etc, then Rest off the damage getting stronger and stronger as the game progressed. Now, most things can put him down too quickly and it only gets worse here.

I think a CB set is its best bet; it's still bulky enough to take random attacks and force you to switch to something that can kill it, allowing Lax to deal damage on the switch.

And Trick Room isn't enough to make Snorlax great, though a TR Belly Drum set could inflict some damage before it fizzles out.

Belly Drum Liechi!

Nah, perhaps that berry that raises crit rate two stages would be interesting? Except I'm pretty sure that Scope Lens does the exact same thing.

Drum Sitrus! But Leftovers is better.

Drum Custap? Really gimmicky, but maybe.

Drum Accuracy Berry? Now I'm getting desperate.

I saw some B/W wifi battles on YT and in one, CurseLax really destroys. It really needs Rest, tough, if you ask me. And Heavy Bomber is not THAT useful, as most Pokemon switching in are really heavy(I´m thinking of different steel types which even resist Heavy Bomber). That is, if Serebii´s description(The heavier it is than it´s opponent, the greater the power) is actually accurate.
Chesto Berry can be nice on CurseLax.

And it has a nice niche being one of the few Pokemon that still learn RestTalk(yeah, I know, we are able to pokeshift. Still, it is worth a mention)

I love when Game Freak realize some pokes were so damn broken on some generations that they decide to give nothing to them, just for the lulz.

Poor me er i mean Snorlax.

Well, i see Wild Bolt getting some use maybe.
And Gluttony is useless.

The Curse set has been good in the past, but with the popularity of Erufuun among others, it probably will not be too reliable. A Choice Band set still has its uses:

Snorlax @ Choice Band
Thick Fat
Adamant
252 HP / 252 ATK / 4 DEF

~Body Slam / Return
~Pursuit
~Earthquake
~Fire Punch / Crunch / Selfdestruct

Edit: Wow, I feel dumb. I didn't realize that Heavy Bomber was a Steel-type move. It really doesn't have much of a place on the CB set, as a non-STAB Steel variable damage move is not a good option over a Normal Move. Sorry about that.

Snorlax has changed so little it's hard to recommend him in today's generation where the world is evolving around him and he's staying stagnant. Game Freak couldn't even give him scrappy >.>
Self- Destruct doesn't halve defenses, and I think I made a mistake earlier as it doesn't appear that he gets it. Unless im being retarded again.

I've used Snorlax quite a bit in 4th gen and once or twice in 5th gen. It's a great Curser and an excellent special tank. Lax's biggest problem is no instant recovery. Rest-Talk can be effective, but that limits your attacking move choices. Rest, even with Sleep Talk, puts you out for two turns leaving you vulnerable. I wish that Snorlax could be restored to his former glory.

Gluttony(lol) and Self Destruct are illegal, but sets without Gluttony or 5th gen egg moves are completely legal. Even without halving defense, base 250 STAB is nothing to laugh at.

As far as I know, DW abilities are breedable, so one Snorlax(male) provides Selfdestruct and the female one the DW ability. Et voila there is Gluttony Selfdestruct Lax.

Gluttony with Self-Destruct, Belly Drum and Custap Berry sounds like a lot of fun. A 200 BP STAB coming off +6 attack is gonna hurt about everything that isn't a ghost, which seem like the only way to keep Lax from taking something out since Custap Berry guarantees he goes first.

Custap Gluttony Belly Drum could be deadly. You could either hit something with your 1400 attack power and hope they don't switch in an immunity, or Sub up and go from there. Crunch would be the best option since /everyone/ will be switching a Ghost in, including me. :P

Except self-destruct isn't an egg move? You get it from the pokewalker munchlax or purification in the gcn game IIRC

he didn't even get slack off this gen :C

still an amazing 'last poke' if it is a curse variant, and the choiced set packs a wallop if you are good at prediction wars.

also god damn it is snorlax, that is good enough to justify using it.

Wild Bolt finally gives him a way to scare Bulky Waters.

I imagine a Counter set will still be plenty good, seeing as he should have enough HP to even withstand Ono's STABs & take that sumbitch out.

Except self-destruct isn't an egg move? You get it from the pokewalker munchlax or purification in the gcn game IIRC

It looks like Munchlax gets it as an egg move, now. A bonus for those that got Selfdestruct Munchlaxes, perhaps?

Munchlax gets it as a 5th gen egg move, according to Serebii.
Something like this might work:
Snorlax@Custap Berry
Belly Drum
Substitute
Selfdestruct
Crunch

It's a pretty gimmicky set, though it has no problem with ghosts since anything less defensive than a Max/Max Giratina is 100% KO'd by crunch after rocks. The real thing this has problems with is priority users (Scizor/Breloom/Roopushin especially), since the only things that wall this set are Rock/Steel types with ridiculous defenses that really can't do anything in return and at least saw fairly limited play last generation (the most used being Registeel). The priority weakness is pretty bad though, since even sacrificing some attack investment for defensive investment won't let him withstand the strongest attacks from 50%.
Really, what this guy needed more than gluttony was slack off.

Munchlax has it as an egg move in gen V.

Snorlax is really going to have even more trouble this gen. He's been one of those early gen superstars who fade out. GF realizes what this thing will do if he gets slack off but without that reliable recovery he can't really serve as that special wall you dreaded to see as their last pokemon due to Curse. The metagame has sped up and Snorlax doesn't have that precious time to gather Curses. Not to mention going the bulky offensive poke doesn't pan out too well either due to how hard some of the new threats hit for in comparison and his lack of amazing typing. Maybe he'll regain some of his former glory.

I have never seen anyone use it effectively against me, but I never used snorlax myself.

I would have annoyed you with a Snorlax.

Ya, every Gen he appears to get a decline for usage for obvious reasons, but that decline is a blessing more than a hinderance because then people will "forget" about him and after careful scouting, he will catch people off surprise.

The guy is incredibly tough to take down. He'll still surprise people and take a poke out.
