I don't have it yet because I don't have a Wii. But after reading this, even if I did have a Wii, I don't think I'll be getting it. Random battles don't seem that great when you can run into people who use all ubers or 8 year olds who don't have a clue what they're doing. Neon Collusium also sounds too much like the battle factory but with ubers.

Fierce Deity, I also saw that video. I'm the one who commented on how much the battle sucked lol.

If you guys are still crying over Neon Colloseum, I'm guessing nobody's gotten to Courtyard Colloseum R2 yet. :D That's the one where you spin the wheel to determine whether or not you get healed. It's very easy to learn the wheel.

Just beat the 100 trainer 2v2 version of it. Took many hours and two tries (first try ended at Round 20 with a really stupid team). Failure earns you nothing. Reward was impressive but not enough to make me do it again (15000 coupons, and a Diamond Dust pass). I'm assuming I'm gonna have to do everything at least once to fully beat the game, so at least I have the accomplishment. If anyone wants some more details, I can provide them.

Here's the skinny on offline mode:
-It's Lv. 30 Open by default when you start the game, which means the opponent's level matches your highest level. Lv. 50 All (sets all levels to 50 automatically) is unlocked when you beat "R1" (game doesn't use these terms but hey).
-Once you beat R1, you can toggle between single and double battles for most colloseums (most pick one or the other). I'm actually not sure if you can do this in R1 as I didn't think to check.
-There are no level caps other than the obvious (if you try to start the game with nothing but Lv. 15s, you're probably in trouble), as well as a Baby Cup for Lv. 5 Pokémon in R2. This allows for some slight EV training, at the very least.
-The bullshit Battle Tower AI is absent. In fact, it can actually be pretty dumb sometimes, or at least is hoping for things that aren't guaranteed to occur (Helping Hand while partner is asleep, for instance). I understand Stargazer Colloseum R2 is where the game gets REALLY savage, though.

Most complaints people are having with Battle Someone are resolved with friend code battles. We're lucky to have the random battle function at all; of course Nintendo isn't going to let you tell six year olds that your trainer is going to fuck their ass.

I also find it absolutely hilarious that people are complaining about a LACK of minigames on the WII. If only the rest of the Internet was like Smogon. As for the lack of story mode, that was never advertised in the first place, and people's incomprehensible hatred for Colloseum and XD probably led to that. While those games were identical to each other, they were completely different from all other Pokémon games at the time, and at the time, their benefits were many (get tons of new Pokémon, catch GSC Legends with not-0 stats, find PP Maxes which I'm pretty sure aren't in the GBA games, the occasional excellent XD move like Morning Sun and Heal Bell) all tied together with an interesting new mechanic and not hindered by storyline conventions of every other Pokémon game before or since (HMs and badges). In short, it's a guarantee that if there was a story mode, you'd be complaining about it, and if there were minigames, you'd be complaining about them too.

Regarding models, yes, most of them are reused from Collo/XD. Did they look bad then, and do they look terrible now? I don't recall seeing anything that looked like it did in N64, and there were a couple butt ugly models in N64. Given some of the awesome new attack animations (Solarbeam, anyone?), the actually attractive character models, and the firing of whoever came up with npc names for Collo/XD, I'm quite willing to give them a pass when it comes to graphics. Sound ranges from completely average (mostly) to awesome (Courtyard Colloseum; there is nothing better than a Darkrai posing in front of a full moon while an organ plays) to extremely weird (opening menu music; where the hell did that come from?).

Battles really do feel faster than DP, even if you can't turn off animations. I think a point of improvement could come with the splitscreen damage display; it's fine if your attack hits two guys like it's supposed to, but if it goes "hit, miss, hit", it still shows all three seperately. Likewise, if it hits three, it shows two getting hit at once, and then the third seperately. A thiree-way split showing hits or misses regardless would be fantastic and should be easily implemented, though what is there now is better than what we've had. An option to collapse end of turn messages together and have them happen all at once would be great too (but wouldn't be default so new players don't get overwhelmed).

As far as I know, when you get the Pikachu, it's sent to your game the same way Manaphy is, so you can reset for IVs (but not nature, it's apparently always Hardy). I'm assuming Electivire and Magmortar are the same way. The trouble with the other two is, nobody knows how to actually get them (except one certain person who shouldn't have opened his mouth about them in the first place, if he even really knows at all). There definitely could have been some cooler bonuses, like tickets that get sent back to Emerald or something similar, but the TM/item shop is good enough- combined with DP's own buyable TM list, there are literally only a handful of oneoff TMs. (And purchasable Liechi Berries are awesome.)

Lastly, while it's true the game should probably have sold for less for what it did, there aren't nearly enough people who would buy for $50 what they wouldn't buy for $60 (CDN) to offset the loss of profits Nintendo would have incurred with the cheaper price. The game isn't perfect but for what it is (never having claimed to be anything else) it's quite good.

Sorry, I'm the one doing a majority of that.

Anyways, you're post was >99% accurate, and you're defending Colo/XD which were vital because of the Johto Pokes to complete the Nat. Dex.

I own a Wii, and I will NOT be getting this game. IMO this is a waste of 50 bucks.

Seeing your Pokemon is 3D on a TV is a complete waste of money. I think this game was for all those people that buy any game that has "Pokemon" on it. They will enjoy it.

Personally, after batting on PBR, the D/P graphics/battle setup looked much worse then comparing Red/Blue graphics to Ruby/Sapphire. Seriously, Earthquake's D/P animation gives me seizures everytime I watch it, yet the 3D animation of Earthquakes keeps me going "woah" everytime. Weather is also much cooler looking in PBR, as you can see it's affects not just at the end of the turn, but when your selecting a move. Of course, better graphics are to expect, seeing as PBR is for the Wii.

The ruleset for WiFi friend battles is simply amazing. You can set every Pokemon's level to whatever you so desire. You can set the time limit each player gets to choose their move. You can choose how many Pokemon each player can use. You can chose the time limit for the battle. There is Species Clause, Item Clause, Sleep Clause and FREEZE CLAUSE. I'm surprised there isn't a Santa Clause. The fixable rules are like what Netbattle had, but better.

But with D/P WiFi, everything had to be done on a trust system, and enforcing things like Freeze Clause is impossible.

I got $10 off PBR by selling PMD to EB. The only other two spinoff games I own are TCG and Ranger (and Ranger was excellent; the TCG less so- an updated version would be interesting).

If you haven't seen it, Trick Room looks absolutely awesome in PBR. The entire arena is shrouded by a thin layer of pulsing squares and distortion effects. It's just too bad that the announcer uses the same line for Trick Room all the time...

"What's this!? Distortion... the Colosseum!!"

lol

It's also worth saying again that the customizable tournament rules are quite impressive. All the options you can think of for competitive play are there, and more. I can't wait to start battling Smogoners in PBR.

I just began playing this today, and I tried to copy over my Pearl team... didn't work...
I got the message on the screen, "Copy completed. Please turn of the power on the Nintendo DS." And everything seemed fine...
I tried to access the storage, and it says, "No pokemon in storage. You must copy pokemon from a DS game to access the storage."

um... Didn't I just do that?

Is anyone else having this issue?
How can I solve it?

I can't remember if I said it on this thread or the other, but I got PBR to help run tournaments at my local Gaming shop. These options go along way to making this much easier for all who are involved. Makes me wonder if maybe Nintendo has a plan for competitive Pokemon tournaments.

Got it Wednesday.

Sunset Colosseum is a fucking cunt. Getting to chose pokemon from 12 random SUCKY ones is gay. I lost to the leader because of fucking Vigoroth(I had one too, but not the point).

Anyway, the graphics are absolutely amazing to be honest. Some attacks like Water Spout and Surf look amazing. Ice Beam looks great. The weather effects look absolutely wonderful. Some of the customizable rules are absolutely outstanding. Not totally worth $50, but I had money to waste.

Weird. I greatly prefer the Diamond/Pearl sprites to the horrible models in PBR. The rules are great, but the fact that they didn't include an option to set all Pokemon to LV100 really really bugs me.

Indeed. A lot of this complaining seems to be complaining for the sake of complaining, without any grasp of the actual facts.

You can't really deny the fact that this is really "fully featured" when compared to any of the past Pokemon console games. This is simply a bare bones Stadium with online play. I think it was worth the $33 I paid for it (got it early too, yay Nintendo connections), but I can imagine where people don't want to shell out $50+.

This is also really only "good" for people that go crazy for Pokemon games, like myself. Regular people, and even casual Pokefreaks probably won't want to pick this up. The biggest draw of this game is probably the Pikachu and other download iteams, with WiFi coming in second since the DS games already had this option (sans random lvl 50 fights).

The random WiFi battles are only so entertaining, since people tend not to play with any clauses at all. I've faced numerous foes with Ubers and people trying to abuse sleep and Double Team. If it wasn't for the total awesomeness of Calm Mind Cresselia, I'd probably have lost those fights (so far undefeated). Things are more sad then fun, like having my Cresselia outstall a Double Team / Light Screen / Psycho Cut / Drain Punch Gallade.

Okay, so I figured out, by going to my records, that my Pokemon actually did get uploaded, as it says I have 371 pokemon in storage... The problem now, is I cant access the storage... when I try, it says "You need to copy pokemon from a DS game in order to access them in Storage."

Any answers?

I also find it absolutely hilarious that people are complaining about a LACK of minigames on the WII. If only the rest of the Internet was like Smogon.

It's not that I want minigames, it's just the fact that Stadium, a 7 year old game, has more features outside of battles. Throwing gimmicks in is a nice change of pace, but I have a feeling that spinning a wheel to see if I get healed would lead to immense frustration as my opponent has a team with full HP while my team is on it's last legs.

Until I get a console Pokemon game (not spinoff, not 3D battle expansion pack, but an actual RPG with elements that make the game as fun as other console RPGs. And no, catching Legendaries from old games doesn't count.) I'll definately keep groaning. But Nintendo likes to oversaturate Pokemon more than thier other franchises, so I'll just save myself the money and let the Pokemaniacs have fun buying Pokemon Rush or whatever.

IIRC, I saw a video where Pachirisu used bite or something, and it was the old animation, where he ran up to the camera, made this face, and thier wierd semitransparent fang thing chomped the opponent. The opponent fell down, stood up, and then fainted. So it got hit by a giant ghost mouth, shook it off, then spontaneously died.

Battles really do feel faster than DP, even if you can't turn off animations.

I can say the same for LeafGreen. Honestly, D/P feels sluggish in comparison, but I've adapted already, and it doesn't ruin the game. Beats waiting for an ATB bar to fill.

Got a huge paycheck today, so maybe I'll rent this, blast through it in a week, reap the benefits, and return it.

I'm glad to hear that. But is there an auto-level system? If your Pokemon don't meet the level requirements, are they automatically changed to meet it, like in D/P's Wi-Fi battle mode? That's the deciding factor for me, as to whether I buy this or not.

whats good about this game?
are there any pluses to having this?
like easier things to catch or usually unobtainable pokmon or items?
or easier to IV check
or easier wifi battles? (finding people)

You can get Magmortar and Electivire, as well as Pikachu with Surf and Volt Tackle (but does it come with Light Ball? IIRC, no, but I might be wrong)

TMs and items that are hard to get

WiFi battles are probably going to be a pain so long as Nintendo sticks with thier crappy methods, so I wouldn't say it's "easier", but I bet with it's popularity you can find someone pretty quickly.

Wi-fi is overrun by uber using noobs, but it is so funny to sweep them. I hear some guys sweep with Luvdisks and win. Thats how bad people are.

Yeah, but there are just as many annoying people running crap like Double Team Gallades. I had to freaking out stall one with my Cresselia (another win for the floating Duck). Was funny though, since there was no chance in hell I'd lose. Was just sitting there laughing while wasting Grass Knot PP.

I just got it, and I was very disappointed that I couldn't have a lv100 battle with my friend, seeing as there was only a lv50 mode offline (I've yet to go online).

Some of the colosseums are really annoying, and the announcer is laughable. "TORTERRA USED ITS MOVE!" I cringe every time it repeats the text on the screen.
