sonic

Good ol' Adventure 2, that game really and truly was my childhood. I can still remember playing City Escape for the first time... all the way to the shock and awe of the final story. Went back a couple years ago and got all 120 emblems, it's amazing how much content was in that game...

Anyone else here speedrun? I've been speedrunning Generations like a mad hog, and it's quite the blast I must say.

Played a sizeable amount of Sonic Adventure DX yesterday and tried out all of the characters. Here's my judgements:

Sonic: Good, but very, very glitchy. Seriously on Ice Cap I FELL THROUGH THE BACKGROUND at the end of the snowboard section :I
Tails: Almost the same as Sonic.
Knuckles: Emerald hunting is annoying, but still better than the variation in Adventure 2.
Big: No comment.
E-102 Gamma: Surprising, my favorite. It's a much-better, faster-paced shooting section than Adventure 2's dreaded machine levels.
Amy: Actually, it's not that bad. Some glitches again but smacking things is pretty satisfying.

Eh, I liked the old games, especially those with the Chao Garden involved (a little competitive edge to it, I guess). I'm not a nostalgia guy or anything, but these days, I don't really bother with the latest games, mainly due to apathy.

Hilariously enough, there's this game going around. Type in "[Insert Your Name] the Hedgehog", and see how badly your hedgehog's fanart is.

/me searches Ryan the Hedgehog

...dear god...so many hideous recolors...
For a Smogon spin on this game, type in [Pokemon Name] the Hedgehog and get ready to embrace the wrath of 12 year olds with MS Paint.

So, Spring break rolled around at my college, so I got a chance to play a few old / new Sonic games at my home. I replayed a bit of Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and, to my surprise, I still found it enjoyable. The only gameplay elements I didn't really like were the car chases and Tails mech missions, just because It felt so much more enjoyable riding around blowing everything up as eggman (Cosmic Wall is reeeeally satisfying). The treasure hunting levels weren't as bad as I expected them either. When I was younger, it would take me around 15 minutes to find all the shards in Pumpkin Hill. Now, with minimal map knowledge, it's only like 3-5 minutes. Besides gameplay, there wasn't too much to complain about. The graphics had a sort of late N64 charm to them. Only complaints aethetically were the outlandish cutscenes and Rogue's why-is-this-in-a-kid's-game jiggle physics.

Since my laptop can't run Generations and my steam cloud wasn't synched (forgivable if I just hadn't beat the goddamn Vector battle...) I had to wait two months in between playing it. It's still fun as ever, but I actually decided to buy a wired Xbox 360 controller to see if Modern Sonic felt more natural. You know how they say you should always use a keyboard and never a gamepad for FPS? It's the exact opposite for Platformers. Jesus Christ, it was so much easier and enjoyable playing Modern Sonic with a good controller. Finished the remaining missions and red rings I had with ease and now I'm looking for friends for 30 second trials :P

TL;DR Sonic old and new is fun!

Arcanine the Hedgehog was fruitful in unexpected ways

But still horrifying in others
