Specks versus torture

You're the only one bringing up after effects. Don't call people flip-floppers just because you personally don't want to play by the rules.

This is a question of infinitesimals vs. a quadratic of time and suffering. It's not a very good one at that, but you only make it worse by flat out not reading the op.

On the other hand, it's a dust speck in your eye. You're inconvenienced for a short while, then you manage to blink it away.

And sure 50 years isn't someone's whole life, but it is 75% on average.

If you'll read my first post, I actually said I don't think we should be considering the after-effects. If you're going to accuse me of not reading the op then try reading what I have written.

Nobody on the pro-specks (or reading) side is bringing up after effects. 50 years of torture is not an after effect, that is the effect. I cannot make that more plain.

The we shouldn't be talking about how it fucks up people for life. In the context of the problem, it fucks them up for 50 years. Thats all.

Exactly one person said that and they probably meant "such a large portion of this person's life is ruined that adding any more time to the experiment would result in diminishing returns", but "life is ruined" is pithier and most people could figure that out themselves.

A minor inconvenience for a lot of people, or 50 years of utter misery for one. Really not a difficult choice: Specs it is.
