mega late reply but, its the only true gengar wisp absorber in the tier that has recovery, thats its niche i guess, like if you compare with other gengar switch ins
blissey - struggles vs wisp taunt with spikes and sand up
celebi - struggles with all gar with spikes up
suit tar - sometimes struggles to reliably trap grass gar, certainly struggles to consistenly fully remove spdef wisp gars and struggles massively with giga drain bulky gar
umbreon - wisp is neutral bad for both thanks to syncronise, however if you thought taking wisp on wish tect rachi is bad, umbreon takes sand chip as well! essentially because ur suit wont ohko gar, and spikes are almost certainly up till you trap it, you are gonna probably need heal bell with this.
suit meta - can run lum berry, doesnt always, also doesnt kill gar with suit ever which means its certainly more of a gar chipper
houndoom - absorbs wisp, ohkos with suit often, but is also much more frail than many suiters, even with large amounts of investment, spikes + tbolt is alot to come in on
jirachi - wish tect rachi walls gar sure, but it really really does not want to take that burn as its retaliation is a pitiful small chip with uninvested non stab neutral fire punch

this brings us to flareon which actually offers a niche none of those do, immunity to wisp with reliably recovery and checking, pretty groovy if i do say so myself, theres a reason why flareon doesnt get used much tho, it certainly has many shortcomings dont be decived, outside of being extra solid vs moltres, mixmence and gengar there isnt much reason to use it over a different spdef option.
