Kartana @ Life Orb
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Aerial Ace
- Sacred Sword
While it's not a particularly solid check, Gapdos can be annoying for a Kartana that hasn't already begun to snowball, since the threat of an OHKO from any STAB move makes setting up difficult, and Gapdos can survive even a +2 Leaf Blade. With Aerial Ace, Kartana can KO Gapdos at +2, or after prior damage from Leaf Blade or Sacred Sword. As an added bonus, it's also your strongest option against Buzzwole.
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos-Galar: 268-316 (83.4 - 98.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 Atk Life Orb Kartana Aerial Ace vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos-Galar: 478-564 (148.9 - 175.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Reserving dragon dance Tyranitar
Dragon Dance Tyranitar
Tyranitar @ Expert Belt
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch / Heavy Slam
- Dragon Dance
This set takes advantage of Tyranitar being quad weak to fighting and OHKOs Galarian Zapdos by using dragon dance on the switch. Literally no one would expect dragon dance because it's a set only really used in screens mono dark and some people don't even know Tyranitar gets Dragon Dance. Expert Belt is for securing the OHKO while still having a jolly nature. Adamant can kill without expert belt but jolly is more worthwhile because you can actually outspeed Garchomp and base 110 pokemon like Gengar or Latios. And at +2, you can outspeed mons like Tapu Lele and Arctozolt. The 3rd move depends on what matchup you're weaker to. Fire punch is for bulky steel types + Ferrothorn while Heavy Slam is for fairy types.
->+1 252 Atk Expert Belt Tyranitar Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Zapdos-Galar: 326-386 (101.5 - 120.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Melmetal @ Chople Berry
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 HP / 244 SpD / 12 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Toxic
- Superpower
- Earthquake
This is a modified variant of the tox/tect set melmetal has. I removed protect because without the leftovers recovery protect is not necessary. Chople berry is a good lure not only for gapdos but also the other pokemon with fighting type moves (mainly kart and tapu lele). I ran superpower over protect because it helps to hit kart (which it can lure with this set), ferro and balloon tran on the switch. I still have toxic for applying pressure on landot, chomp and buzzwole.
252 Atk Choice Band Zapdos-Galar Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Chople Berry Melmetal: 210-247 (51 - 60%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
If Bluecliqse is thinking what I'm thinking, then there's actually a solid reason to run a ground lure. How are ground types lures to regieleki because regieleki just swaps out once it sees a ground type?
