Project SS OU Lure That Threat!

No, better sets means a lure that is better and more useful in the metagame.
The current purpose of the thread is to identify lures to BLACEPHALON. It doesn’t matter what coverage moves Dragapult has, it is always going to click shadow ball against Blacephalon. We are not trying to find out what Dragapult set is best for the metagame, the purpose of the set is to specifically lure the assigned threat.

———————————————

Anyway, my vote is for Scarf Gengar.

Congratulations to zaydapoketrainer for winning this week of Lure that Threat!

Our new threat will be...
:ss/tyranitar:
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge

- Crunch
- Fire Punch
- Ice Punch

How will YOU lure this threat? Submissions end Friday!

:ss/victini:
Victini @ Choice Specs
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Blue Flare
- Focus Blast
- Glaciate
Victini heat
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 436-516 (127.8 - 151.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
So a ttar switches in to you expecting a real set and you just focus blast that man out of extinction
Although you are weak to rocks now, Ttar's probably gonna expect band
Also specs blue flare hits really hard, it has minimal switch ins. If we look at the sand sample with pads shifu and band ttar/drill, specs blue flare 2hkos that entire team except ttar.
Basically, specs blue flare is good.
Also:
252 SpA Choice Specs Victini Glaciate vs. 252 HP / 164+ SpD Landorus-Therian: 324-384 (84.8 - 100.5%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
Decent damage vs lando too
Also, the smogon set for spdef rotom-wash (OU Defensive pivot) can't switch into full hp victini if rocks are up, as you 3hko it if rocks are up and get 2hkoed by hydro pump.
Really hard to deal with set overall, your only switch ins are like slowbro and fini and maybe even glowking, but you can also just click U-turn.

Reserving the hilariously dumb gimmick that is Sunny Day Solar Beam Blacephalon
:ss/blacephalon:
Blacephalon @ Life Orb
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sunny Day
- Solar Beam
- Flamethrower/Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball

Set Sunny Day on the switch, KO with Solar Beam, profit. Hopefully the opponent doesn’t have anything faster than it, because something like Zeraora or especially Pult effortlessly ruins its fun. Once it gets a KO though it becomes extremely threatening with Beast Boost and Sun-boosted Flamethrowers and can clean teams on its own.

252 SpA Life Orb Blacephalon Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar: 380-447 (111.4 - 131%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Ferrothorn @ Occa Berry :Occa Berry:
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Body Press
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Spikes

CB Tyranitar OHKOs Ferrothorn with Fire Punch even after the smallest amount of chip damage, Occa Berry prevents that and grants Ferrothorn the ability to retaliate with Body Press.

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 328-388 (93.1 - 110.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Occa Berry Ferrothorn: 164-194 (46.5 - 55.1%) -- 69.5% chance to 2HKO

252+ Def Ferrothorn Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 360-424 (105.5 - 124.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

A lure that does better in the metagame is a more effective mon and should get more votes. To make this clearer, suppose someone suggested a Scarf Dragapult lure with only two moves, Shadow Ball and Draco Meteor. After all, Fire Blast and U-turn are not used to lure Blacephalon, and you don't think the coverage moves matter. Yet I would presume that you would be fine with someone speaking up about a two-move Dragapult. The reason that a Pokemon should have 4 moves, even though 2 are not used to lure Blacephalon, is the same reason that we would try to improve those 2 moves.

Why is this even being argued about when in practice it really doesnt matter what coverage moves pult runs, it lures blace regardless. Its such a minor thing to get hung up about

Anyway, reserving zapdos (not sure which set yet)

:zapdos:
Zapdos @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunder
- Hurricane
- Weather Ball
- Rain Dance

TTar switches in, you rain dance on the switch and then threaten it out with Weather Ball. If you're running Timid you do need rocks up, though. Modest doesn't require rocks.

252 SpA Zapdos Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Rain: 316-374 (92.6 - 109.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Zapdos Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tyranitar in Rain: 348-410 (102 - 120.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Also how do you do the funny battle sprites/models

I was talking to Arkm about improvements to the coverage moves of his Scarf Dragapult lure but someone was against it. A good lure should effectively lure the mon it’s supposed to but ideally also do well in the metagame. Otherwise you get a lure that you wouldn’t even use.

The Conversions tab exists for a reason you know, this isn't a very meaningful argument and shouldn't take up space for submissions.

Anybody else can chime in if I post suggestions here, like wisp for Scarf Pult. And a better mon should get more votes.

Weavile @ Choice Band
Level: 100
Jolly Nature
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Knock Off
- Triple Axel
- Ice Shard
- Low Kick

Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hurricane
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Knock Off

Torn-T rarely runs Focus Blast anymore, so Tyranitar will rarely expect it to carry fighting coverage (Focus Blast is not even a guaranteed OHKO in the sand with 252 SpAtk investment and has a high chance to miss). To lure Ttar, Superpower is a much better coverage option since it doesn't need to worry about missing and is always an OHKO with enough investment in Atk. 72 Atk is the minimum investment to OHKO TTar, but I feel maxing Atk investment helps it with its other coverage moves and Hurricane is already a very powerful move on its own.

72 Atk Tornadus-Therian Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 344-408 (100.8 - 119.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Tornadus-Therian Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 404-476 (118.4 - 139.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Blissey (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
~Seismic Toss
~Soft-Boiled
~Thunder Wave / Toxic
~Counter

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 499-588 (69.8 - 82.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Crunch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 399-471 (55.8 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage

Physical attackers love getting free hits off on Blissey. Blissey can live both of TTar’s STABs and proceed to OHKO it in return with Counter. It also lives the the elemental punches quite comfortably.

Congratulations to Wugus for winning this week of Lure that Threat!

Our new threat will be...
:ss/gengar:
Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

How will YOU lure this threat? Submissions end Friday!

Slowking-Galar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Curious Medicine
EVs: 252 HP / 16 Def / 112 SpA / 128 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Eerie Spell
- Sludge Bomb
- Scald
- Fire Blast

Sub-Nasty Plot Gengar is a tricky mon to lure. Most Infiltrator mons are unviable or, in the case of Dragapult, force Gengar out rather than lure it in. This lead me to look at “sound moves,” since they bypass substitute. There are only two sound moves that hit Gengar super-effectively. The first, Snarl, is too weak and isn’t on many OU viable Pokémon. The second, however, is Eerie Spell; Glowking’s signature move. I was surprised to find out this was a sound move and I figured, if anything could lure Gengar properly, it would be Glowking. 112 SpA OHKOs Gengar from full with Eerie Spell, which is important since Gengar can either sub in your face expecting you to click future sight (the standard Glowking psychic STAB) or can just shadow ball you, which does not OHKO an AV Glowking.

112 SpA Slowking-Galar Eerie Spell vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gengar: 264-312 (101.1 - 119.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 128+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking-Galar: 132-156 (33.5 - 39.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 128+ SpD Assault Vest Slowking-Galar: 260-308 (65.9 - 78.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
