Gratz y'all and great submission this week from everyone, thank you a lot for being so patient with me and I really do appreciate everyones thoughts :)

Now we hop straight to the next Victim of Week 25, and this time its Ice-Age & Fossils, combined to a true powerhouse and thriving Pokemon in OU
:ss/Arctozolt:
Arctozolt @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Slush Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 20 SpA / 4 SpD / 232 Spe

Naive Nature
- Bolt Beak

- Blizzard
- Low Kick /Freeze-Dry

- Substitute

With Hail being a prominent Archetype at the moment, this Pokemon is the Hails best abuser, Arctozolt. It made a name for itself with being able to push out a strong BoltBeam-STAB with Blizzard and Bolt Beak and with great coverage options in Low Kick to hit the necessary Steel-types such as Heatran and Melmetal and with Freeze-Dry being also a great alternative to bypass Ground-types such as Gastrodon and Swampert with ease, it is easily one of the most terrifying wallbreakers on hail teams. Having the ability to outrun with Slush Rush and partners like Alolan Ninetales a lot of faster threats in the metagame, it is also not very easy to outright revengekill it when the Hail is crashing down! What could be possible answers to Arctozolt? What could stop the Fossil from tearing through teams?

Submission Deadline will be next Wednesday! Good Luck everyone and Happy Posting! :blobwizard:

Reserving Iron Defense Magnezone (please update the title) title has been updated :yey:

:ss/magnezone:
Magnezone @ Chople Berry
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon

Iron Defense Magnezone is an excellent counter to Arctozolt, as it is one of the few Pokemon that resists the BoltBeam combination. It also utilizes Chople Berry to tank Low Kick and use Iron Defense afterwards to OHKO Arctozolt with Body Press.

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Magnezone: 83-98 (29.5 - 34.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after hail damage
252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (100 BP) vs. +2 0 HP / 252 Def Magnezone: 68-80 (24.1 - 28.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after hail damage
252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 252 Def Chople Berry Magnezone: 66-78 (23.4 - 27.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after hail damage
+2 252 Def Magnezone Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 350-412 (109 - 128.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Melmetal @ Protective Pads
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 104 SpD / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Superpower
- Thunder Punch
- Thunder Wave

Melmetal's sheer physical bulk means it can almost always avoid the 2HKO from Low Kick and Bolt Beak, and it easily OHKOes with Superpower or OHKOes nearly all the time with Double Iron Bash. This is a check because you can get worn down quickly and cannot safely switch into Bolt Beak with hail and Stealth Rock up, and there is a small chance to 2HKO with just one of those, but it can pivot in on predicted Blizzard, Freeze-Dry, or Low Kick, or almost always come into Bolt Beak when there is not both Stealth Rock and hail.

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 169-201 (40.1 - 47.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO after hail damage
252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 169-201 (40.1 - 47.7%) -- 2.3% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 160-190 (38 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 169-201 (40.1 - 47.7%) -- 51.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and hail damage
252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Melmetal: 160-190 (38 - 45.1%) -- 8.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and hail damage

252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Double Iron Bash (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 306-360 (95.3 - 112.1%) -- approx. 81.3% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Melmetal Superpower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 338-398 (105.2 - 123.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 92 Def / 164 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Body Press

THis is a CHECK, since it can only come into arctozolts attacks a few times due to it being 3hko'd by Low Kick, It still can prevent it from reliably getting a substitute up with Body Press and take minimal damage from Bolt Beak and Blizzard.
Calcs:

252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 92+ Def Ferrothorn: 124-146 (35.2 - 41.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
76 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 164 SpD Ferrothorn: 91-108 (25.8 - 30.6%) -- 96.4% chance to 4HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 252 HP / 92+ Def Ferrothorn in Electric Terrain: 101-119 (28.6 - 33.8%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

92+ Def Ferrothorn Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 188-222 (58.5 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 36 Def / 224 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Discharge
- Overheat
- Pain Split

Rotom-Heat isn't a great Pokemon overall, but it's definitely one of the things closest to an Arctozolt counter. As it resists both of Arctozolt's STABs, it can tank any hit decently well and threaten it back with an Overheat OHKO (one thing to be wary of, though, is that Arctozolt can spam Substitute to garner Overheat SpA drops, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue). Furthermore, it can use Pain Split to regain lost HP.

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 248 HP / 36 Def Rotom-Heat: 105-124 (34.6 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after hail damage
20 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Heat: 52-62 (17.1 - 20.4%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after hail damage

0 SpA Rotom-Heat Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Arctozolt: 390-458 (121.4 - 142.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
-2 0 SpA Rotom-Heat Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Arctozolt: 194-230 (60.4 - 71.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Reserving Volcarona

Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Psychic
Offensive Quiver Dance Volcarona with its potent STABs can easily OHKO Arctozolt. Even without Choice Specs or Life Orb, nor a Quiver Dance boost, Volcarona OHKOes Arctozolt with Flamethrower. Thanks to this Evs spread, Volc outspeeds Arctozolt with ease. This makes Volcarona a good check to Arctozolt. However it struggles receiving Arctozolt's STABs attacks, suffering several damage, which is the reason to not consider Volcarona as a good counter.

252 SpA Volcarona Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Arctozolt: 404-476 (125.8 - 148.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Iron Man (Scizor) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

Scizor can't switch into Bolt Beak, but if it gets a safe switch, it can outdamage Arctozolt with Bullet Punch vs it's weaker Bolt Beak (as it hits after BP), making it a great check.

0 Atk Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 90-106 (28 - 33%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (85 BP) vs. 248 HP / 172+ Def Scizor: 90-106 (26.2 - 30.9%) -- 26.4% chance to 3HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery

Adamant Nature

Mamoswine can safely come on arctozolt's bolt beak, thick fat weakens artozolt's ice moves. But its afraid of arcto's low kick as it takes more then 70% damage from it. Its a check as it can only come on bolt beak or non low kick sets.

252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mamoswine: 260-308 (72 - 85.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Here's LRod Marowak-A to Counter Arctozolt, as a Bolt Beak and Low Kick immunity that resists Blizzard. Of course, it'll get worn down quickly by Rocks and Hail and the like, but it should be able to take some kills on the switch. Speed here creeps no invest base 70, rest dumped in HP to compensate a bit for no Rock Head. Cheers!

20 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 52 HP / 0 SpD Marowak-Alola: 67-79 (24.4 - 28.8%) -- 99.7% chance to 4HKO
20 SpA Arctozolt Freeze-Dry vs. 52 HP / 0 SpD Marowak-Alola: 42-51 (15.3 - 18.6%) -- possible 6HKO

Excadrill is a check immune to Bolt Beak and eats up Blizzard, however Low Kick has a chance to 2HKO.

252 Atk Arctozolt Low Kick (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Excadrill: 166-196 (45.9 - 54.2%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery 20 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 0 HP / 252 SpD Excadrill: 115-136 (31.8 - 37.6%) -- 91.7% chance to 3HKO after hail damage and Leftovers recovery

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Atk / 248 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic

Hippowdon comes in on arctozolt's bolt beak and low kick for free and can change the weather and threaten it out virtually for free. Even if arctozolt correctly predicts with blizzard, it only has a 17.2% chance to 2hko after leftovers recovery when under sand rather than hail, not even counting the 30% chance of blizzard missing each turn. Unlike most arctozolt checks, it is both able to resist a 2hko and have reliable recovery at the same time, providing one of very few long-term answers to arctozolt.

20 SpA Arctozolt Blizzard vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Hippowdon: 198-234 (47.1 - 55.7%) -- 17.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Arctozolt Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Hippowdon: 204-240 (48.5 - 57.1%) -- 40.2% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
8 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 260-308 (80.9 - 95.9%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after 2 rounds of sand damage.

With that in mind, I submit Hippowdon as a check to Arctozolt.

Check
It revenge kills zolt, even in hail. It can even potentially come in on a bolt beak *twice* if needed. Can also come in on low kick multiple times because it's a paper and it doesn't weigh much. It does need some chip for an ohko though.

252 Atk Arctozolt Bolt Beak (170 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kartana: 92-108 (35.5 - 41.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after hail damage

252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Arctozolt: 276-326 (85.9 - 101.5%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO

EVs: 96 Atk / 20 Def / 208 SpD / 184 Spe

Conkeldurr is a check, as it can switch into Arctozolt and 2HKO it with Mach Punch (if you don't use Mach Punch, Bolt Beak will increase in power and kill Conkeldurr. Even if Arctozolt subs when Conkeldurr switches in, you can still kill it due to my EV's. The Speed EV's is for negative natured 8 speed Heatran and anything below that speed tier(Which is 172)

Torkoal @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock

- Rapid Spin

Torkoal is a check. It can switch in on most of Arctozolt's attacks, replace Hail with Sun, and either threaten to OHKO with sun-boosted Lava Plume, or set up hazards on a predicted switch.

Unfortunately, since Torkoal is much slower than Arctozolt, Bolt Beak will always be boosted, even outside of Hail. While it doesn't 2HKO from full, Torkoal lacks recovery and is weak to Stealth Rock, making it incredibly easy to wear it down into KO range for it.

:torkoal:
0 SpA Torkoal Lava Plume vs. 0 HP / 4- SpD Arctozolt in Sun: 306-360 (95.3 - 112.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

rhyperior.gif

Rhyperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 244 HP / 32 Atk / 232 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Toxic

fully spdef rhyperior is a decent CHECK to arctozolt, by virtue of its heavily invested special defense, electric immunity, high natural physical bulk and solid rock neutering blizzard and low kick damage. this defensive profile allows rhyperior to switch in and use its dual stab eq and rock blast to threaten a clean ohko from full and potentially even when behind a sub, respectively.
the spread makes it so that eq is always an ohko and maximises special bulk+leftovers recovery to the point where blizzard 3hkos from full and only has 9% chance to 2hko with stealth rock up, factoring hail of course. finally, three hits of rock blast deal above 75% min, which means 4-5 hits is a ko if zolt is behind a sub.
rhyperior isn't splashable so this is an option for fatter teams and also helps with match ups against fire and electric types, like victini, tran, volc, koko and zeraora.

the main appeal of rhyperior that I wanted to stress is its ability to switch into and scare arctozolt out even when its behind a substitute. arctozolt forces a lot of switches and thus is a great substitute user. rhyperior isn't the best thing ever of course, but is very unique in the sense that if zolt clicks beak or sub, it risks death by staying in --> it's forced out. with the added bulk and solid rock, rhyperior can actually get a prediction wrong and still threaten it out. again, this is NOT the most reliable method to deal with zolt - hence the submission as check, not counter - and keep in mind that more splashable or reliabile checks have already been submitted. however, amongst them only melmetal can also threaten zolt from behind a sub and rhyperior does it different by blocking its scariest move, bolt beak. if you're out of options or can't fit better ones, rhyperior is here for you
