Ty to everyone who voted Ily so much. The winners this time are

Counter: Defensive :Kommo-o: by Bluecliqse
Check: :Tangrowth: by SunCooled

Now for the next Victim of the Week we have... Choice Specs Swift Swim Seismitoad!

:ss/Seismitoad:

Seismitoad @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Weather Ball
- Earth Power
- Icy Wind
- Surf / Grass Knot

Seismitoad is a staple on rain teams, providing them with an extra swift swimmer as well as the very much needed electric immunity. With the rise of Modest as it's nature in the last months, this pokemon hits harder than ever. Icy Wind allows it to hit otherwise rain roadblocks such as Dragonite, while Grass Knot gives it a way to hit Gastrodon. How would you deal with this pokemon?

Deadline for submissions is Sunday June 5th at 11:59 EST
Remember we are considering rain is up!

Ninetales-Alola @ Icy Rock / Light Clay
Ability: Snow Warning
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Aurora Veil
- Pain Split / Hypnosis / Encore
- Pain Split / Hypnosis / Encore
- Freeze-Dry

Swap the weather, then use a 4x effective freeze dry to OHKO after rocks and hail. You easily check seismitoad and as a bonus, screw over its team mates. You can't switch in tho, because both earth power and surf are a 2HKO, and you may get unlucky and not KO.

Offensive:
0 SpA Ninetales-Alola Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Seismitoad: 324-384 (92.3 - 109.4%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Defensive:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Ice) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ninetales-Alola in Hail: 67-79 (19.1 - 22.5%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ninetales-Alola: 180-213 (51.4 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ninetales-Alola: 37-44 (10.5 - 12.5%) -- possible 8HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Surf vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ninetales-Alola: 180-213 (51.4 - 60.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (40 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Ninetales-Alola: 54-64 (15.4 - 18.2%) -- possible 6HKO

reserving blissey.

:ss/blissey:
Blissey (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave
- Teleport

Standard Blissey. It is a counter to this Seismitoad set.
With its high special defence and HP, Blissey walls Seismitoad relatively easily.
Weather Ball in Rain 3HKOes this set (and so does Focus Blast if used), however Soft-Boiled allows Blissey to recover and repeatedly take hits from Seismitoad.
Seismic Toss allows Blissey to deal damage to Seismitoad and wins after a few hits.
Heavy-Duty Boots allow Blissey to come in to counter Seismitoad without worrying about hazards.
It's basically self-explanatory.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey in Rain: 232-274 (32.4 - 38.3%) -- 98.2% chance to 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Blissey: 248-294 (34.7 - 41.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Ferrothorn
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Careful Nature
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Knock Off
- Power Whip

Ferro the goat what can I say, the standard ferro set can really just give toad a hard time even with focus blast. As proven by the calcs:

Specs Weather Ball in Rain:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 252 HP / 84+ SpD Ferrothorn in Rain: 113-133 (32.1 - 37.7%) -- 93.8% chance to 3HKO

Specs Earth Power:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 84+ SpD Ferrothorn: 135-160 (38.3 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Specs Icy Wind:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 84+ SpD Ferrothorn: 56-66 (15.9 - 18.7%) -- possible 5HKO

Focus Blast: (if its running it)
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 84+ SpD Ferrothorn: 240-284 (68.1 - 80.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

In return, ferro can do this:
0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Seismitoad: 624-736 (177.7 - 209.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

yeah ferro is p gud*+:)

Reserving Rillaboom

:Rillaboom:
Rillaboom @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Grassy Glide
- Knock Off
- Wood Hammer
- U-turn

Any Rillaboom set Checks every Seismitoad set and every other Water/Ground in the entire game, nevermind just the Choice Band set. Just hit Grassy Glide and nuke the frog away. It is only a check however as Weather Ball is a guaranteed 2HKO on an uninvested Rillaboom, although Earth Power is only a 3HKO (or a 4HKO 14% of the time). Icy Wind and Sludge Wave/Bomb still exist though, so don’t get too comfy with only half of Seismitoad’s STAB crippling Rilla on a bad switch-in.

252+ Atk Choice Band Rillaboom Grassy Glide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Seismitoad in Grassy Terrain: 1204-1420 (343 - 404.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Rillaboom Wood Hammer vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Seismitoad in Grassy Terrain: 2068-2436 (589.1 - 694%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rillaboom in Rain: 202-238 (59.2 - 69.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rillaboom: 121-143 (35.4 - 41.9%) -- 86% chance to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Icy Wind vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Rillaboom: 200-236 (58.6 - 69.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery

Rilla checks Seismitoad.

Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Slack Off
- Teleport

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Slowking in Rain: 112-132 (28.4 - 33.5%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Slowking: 123-145 (31.2 - 36.8%) -- 75.5% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Slowking: 146-172 (37 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

It can tank all hits and besides the uncommon grass knot which it can still avoid the 2hko from it eats every hit and can slack off on them and just threatens future sight, pivots to a revenge killer like scarf kart, or just stall it out

:ss/kingdra:

Kingdra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Flip Turn

Kingdra is a check. It outspeeds Seismitoad both in and out of the rain, and can take any of Seismitoad's attacks once (potentially more than that if it's a Water-type attack) from full health. In return, Kingdra can respond with its own Water-type attacks, which are a guaranteed KO in rain, or Draco Meteor, or pivot out on a predicted switch.

:kingdra:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kingdra Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Seismitoad in Rain: 450-531 (128.2 - 151.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kingdra Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Seismitoad: 355-418 (101.1 - 119%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Kingdra Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Seismitoad in Rain: 370-436 (105.4 - 124.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0- Atk Kingdra Flip Turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Seismitoad in Rain: 108-127 (30.7 - 36.1%) -- 51% chance to 3HKO

:seismitoad:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kingdra in Rain: 78-92 (26.8 - 31.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kingdra: 189-223 (64.9 - 76.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Icy Wind vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kingdra: 77-91 (26.4 - 31.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kingdra in Rain: 70-83 (24 - 28.5%) -- 98.1% chance to 4HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kingdra: 140-165 (48.1 - 56.7%) -- 89.1% chance to 2HKO

Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Focus Blast
- Earthquake

AV Tangrowth is a reliable counter with nice recovery and can take on seimsitoad any time (saying it doesn't have sludge wave). It can easily switch into its attacks and gets 3HKO'ed or 4HKO'ed.

DEFENSIVE CALCS:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth in Rain: 159-187 (39.3 - 46.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 95-112 (23.5 - 27.7%) -- 83.5% chance to 4HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Icy Wind vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 156-184 (38.6 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 70-83 (17.3 - 20.5%) -- possible 5HKO

OFFENSIVE CALC:
0 SpA Tangrowth Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Seismitoad: 444-528 (126.4 - 150.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

:Vaporeon:
Vaporeon @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 248 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Wish
- Protect / Toxic
- Scald
- Flip Turn / Toxic

With Water Absorb, the Aqua kitten is immune to the most dangerous attack on Seismitoad´s set, while it´s feather-light weight prevents it from taking much damage from Grass Knot:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 8 SpD Vaporeon: 168-198 (36.2 - 42.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 8 SpD Vaporeon: 187-222 (40.3 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Vaporeon wins the war of attrition one-on-one with a Wish-tect set barring an unlucky critical hit, allowing it to throw in a Scald or a Toxic in-between here or there. With Toxic and a more specially-defensive set it can also win reliably against Heatran, Pelipper and Volcanion, though I bulked it out on the physical side and gave it Flip Turn, in order to make it an emergency switch-in to Weavile that can also pass bountiful Wishes to potential teammates such as Choice-locked Tapu Lele or Leftovers-less Melmetal.

If Seismitoad is physical, and runs Power Whip... :worrywhirl:

Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Knock Off
- Sacred Sword
- Smart Strike

Scarfed Kartana is a check. It outspeeds Seismitoad even in rain and cleanly OHKOs it with a Leaf Blade. It dies to any of its non-Icy Wind attacks, however, so it can’t switch in.

Hi everyone. Given the couple of problems we've had the last couple of weeks, it would be cool if you could post your nom as either a counter or a check.

As of rn the only nom I don't think is appropriate is this tang as counter. Maybe with more spdef it could be, but that specific spread gets 2hko after minimal chip (including stealth rock) so it can't switch in hard. 252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 252 HP / 56 SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth in Rain: 159-187 (39.3 - 46.2%) -- 26.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Posting another Gen 4 classic mon.
:ss/Rotom-Wash:
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers :Leftovers:
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpDef
Calm Nature
- Thunder Wave / Will-O-Wisp / Defog
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Pain Split

Rotom-Wash has been a phenomenal pivot and supporting ‘mon in previous generations, though it has admittedly fallen off in usage currently. :Rotom-Wash: can tank quite a number of hits while pivoting around, before healing itself or crippling something while dying to create an opportunity for a more offensive partner. The only moves necessary on this set are Pain Split and Hydro Pump, meaning its quite customizable in terms of its supporting options when slapping it on a team.

Specially Defensive Rotom-Wash is a check to Specs Toad :Choice Specs: :Seismitoad: under rain, able to chip it down through Pain Split until it is in range of a rain-boosted Hydro Pump, all while remaining out of range of Weather Ball. WB does too much damage for Rotom-Wash to switch in and still be able to Pain Split Seismitoad until Seismitoad is in range of Hydro Pump, so Rotom-Wash is only a check that can come in after a sack or pivot. Alternatively, you can opt to go for the immediate 2HKO with Hydro Pump, or avoid the WB 3HKO roll - if you're feelin' lucky.

Outside of rain, Seismitoad cannot touch Washtom seriously.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-Wash in Rain: 103-122 (33.8 - 40.1%) -- 33.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (20 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-Wash: 38-46 (12.5 - 15.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Rotom-Wash: 88-104 (28.9 - 34.2%) -- 99.2% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Storm Drain Gastrodon is a solid blanket check to most specially-offensive rain 'Mons, and Seismi is no exception. If you're a gimmicky asshole like me, Mirror Coat is a cute tech to dick over Grass Knot...

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Grass Knot (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 268-316 (62.9 - 74.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

... But otherwise, just throw the slug into any non-Grass move and take less damage than Scald does back in return.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 148-175 (34.7 - 41%) -- 66.7% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
