Project SS UU Victim Of The Week v2- Week 53: Darmanitan (Submissions)

Voting has concluded! Congrats to StarFalcon555 for cleanly sweeping the week and TotomonGang for taking runner up in a smilies fashion. Both of your submissions will be added to the Hall of Fame. Now, let’s introduce this weeks Victim!
:ss/Starmie:
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

This week we have a very menacing breaker in starmie! With an amazing speed tier and coverage to hit nearly the entire tier super effectively, Starmie is a scary wall breaker in the proper hands. It’s ability analytic lets it punish switch ins, severely limiting the pool of counters it has. How will you answer this bizarre Star? Submissions are due August 10 at 11:59 PM

Krookodile @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Krookodile obviously can't switch in safely but once it gets in from a teammate such as Teleport Chansey, and can easily OHKO with Knock Off.

252 Atk Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 338-398 (129.5 - 152.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Ice Punch
- Healing Wish

me when i wish to a wishing star but the wish kills the star. idk ive never done it

rachi can switch in to any of Starmies attacks, and it can chip it with U-turn for a free switch or simply just flinch it out. Check

252 SpA Life Orb Analytic Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Jirachi: 253-298 (74.1 - 87.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Jirachi U-turn vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 146-174 (55.9 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Def / 244 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp

defog rotom is able to switch into analytic starmie and pivot out with volt switch it can also hydro pump any ground or thunderus-T looking to absorb the volt switch.

252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 244+ SpD Rotom-Wash: 95-113 (31.3 - 37.2%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 128+ SpD Rotom-Wash: 74-88 (24.4 - 29%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Rotom-Wash Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Starmie: 180-212 (68.9 - 81.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

rotom might not be able to 1 oh ko starmie but after stealth rock and taking life orb recoil twice (rotom being slower means it will absorb the second hit) means starmie will die after a volt switch

SubToxic Aegislash is a solid counter to Starmie, as it can easily tank attacks in its Shield form and OHKO Starmie in its Blade form.

252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aegislash-Shield: 110-133 (33.9 - 41%) -- 50.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Power Whip
- Knock Off

it can come in on any analytic attack barring ice beam and ohko with power whip

0 Atk Tangrowth Power Whip vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 296-350 (113.4 - 134%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 156-185 (38.6 - 45.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Grimmsnarl @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
-
Darkest Lariat
- Spirit Break / Bulk Up
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Grimmsnarl switches in on any attack with immunity or neutral incoming damage and above average Special Defense. Prankster allows for priority recovery and attacks while asleep (with a little room for RNG). Even at no Attack investment Darkest Lariat OHKOs (after LO damage) and Spirit Break 2KOs while debuffing Starmie's Special Attack.

Calculations:
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Grimmsnarl: 169-200 (42.8 - 50.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Grimmsnarl Darkest Lariat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 246-290 (94.2 - 111.1%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
0 Atk Grimmsnarl Spirit Break vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 109-129 (41.7 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after LO Damage

Umbreon @ Leftovers
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Foul Play
- Wish
- Protect
- Toxic

Hydro is the move that can touch it the best, and it 4hkos, on top of tect, low pp, low accuracy, and reliable recovery, I think this is a COUNTER

252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 118-140 (29.9 - 35.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Idk how to add analytic to that :/
But I'm assuming it goes upto 45 ish max, rough estimate, so you can still tect wish.
Edit- Thanking avg and KM and Hydreigon>Latias for telling me how to add analytic
Also I was on damn point :afrostar:

252 SpA Life Orb Analytic Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Umbreon: 153-181 (38.8 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

So yeah you'll be fine

Have a good day:blobwizard:

Check

Seismitoad @ Leftovers
Level: 100
Impish Nature
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off
- Liquidation
- Earthquake

Knock Off and EQ 2HKO Starmie.

Ice Beam is Starmie’s strongest move vs you but it doesn’t 3HKO you unless they get max rolls three times

1) LO Analytic: 47.8% max
2) LO, no Analytic: 36.7% max
3) No LO, no Analytic (LO Knocked off): 28.2% max

Adds up to 112.7% which is 100.2% after two rounds of Leftovers

:ss/azumarill:
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off

So in a fun twist that I certainly didn’t expect: apparently Azumarill actually lives a Thunderbolt. It obviously can’t switch in, but it’s a solid check because Play Rough and Knock Off both OHKO.

252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Azumarill: 255-302 (74.7 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 307-363 (117.6 - 139%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Starmie: 442-520 (169.3 - 199.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Here are the calcs
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Hydro Pump vs. 248 HP / 160+ SpD Moltres-Galar: 130-153 (33.9 - 39.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Possible damage amounts: (130, 130, 133, 134, 136, 138, 138, 140, 142, 144, 146, 146, 148, 149, 152, 153)
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 160+ SpD Moltres-Galar: 143-169 (37.3 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Starmie Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 160+ SpD Moltres-Galar: 143-169 (37.3 - 44.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Possible damage amounts: (143, 143, 146, 148, 148, 151, 153, 153, 156, 159, 159, 161, 164, 164, 166, 169)
So it needs like ice beam freeze or smt to kill moltress galar

Hey there hale style.css, so glad you decided to make a submission! It’s always great to see new people participating for the first time. However, I must request that you have to Modify your submissions to fit the projects rules. Only Pokémon ranked on the Underused Viability Rankings can be submitted, and both grimmsnarl and snorlax are considered unviable there. You have two options. You can..
1) edit your submission with a check or counter to starmie that is on the Viability Rankings
Or
2) Find replays using this Pokémon in action at the 1400 mark on the ladder or higher to show this Pokémon is worth using. Please put them in your post when you do.

These are your two choices, good luck if you choose to do the second option. Sorry for the inconvenience, and have a great day!

Hey, sorry about that. I did get a little excited here and jumped the gun. I’ve added a couple replays and will see if I can add more if I can get some games in.

Gastrodon @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 84 Def / 172 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Toxic

This is surprisingly one of the few Pokemon that can counter Starmie. It can pivot into an analytic boosted psyshock, take a regular psyshock, and let starmie kill itself with LO recoil as you can finish it off with earthquake.

With that out of the way, its time to vote! Down below are all the submissions for this week, and we got a LOT. Thanks so much for all of these submissions by the way, it really makes my day. I'll let it slide this time, but for those gathering replays to nominate an UR Pokemon, the amount you should get is at least 3 replays in the 1400 range. Its all good for this week though.
