Mostly unsurprising usage from this tour, I'll go over some key points and then talk about trends/potential bans that may come from the meta being played more before opening up discussion to everyone.

:starmie::snorlax::chansey::tauros:
We have a very evident big 4 in this meta and for good reason- they're really fuckin good lol. There's obviously some slight discrepancies in the exact numbers due to no Team Preview, but with what we're looking at it makes sense to see Starmie at #1 usage and with the highest winrate of the big 4. Starmie's speed tier is invaluable and bot Thunder Wave and Amnesia sets are a force to reckon with. As the tour progressed, we definitely started to see a good deal more Crabhammer from it due to the crit rate allowing it to get past Amnesia sets.

Snorlax saw a pretty wide variety of sets as expected, and I was impressed at the innovation of Defense Curl sets. Currently I'd say Swords Dance sets are more reliable than Amnesia sets on Snorlax, but both are still decent.

Chansey's Transform sets unsurprisingly saw a good deal of usage this tour but otherwise were pretty unsurprising. Super Fang sets were also solidly annoying to a lot of Pokemon, though ultimately I noticed it run out of PP too fast against Recover Pokemon. One set I had theorymonned that unfortunately never saw usage was Growth Chansey. It would be interesting to see that set one day I feel but for now it will remain a mystery.

Tauros was an absolute menace this tour as usual. I was a little surprised at the sets that ended up being used personally despite having theorymonned it myself. Slash proved to be an incredible option on it with Recover and/or Glare. I expected Swords Dance to be the sole set on Tauros and was delightfully surprised to see people explore it more. Recover Tauros frankly can get past just about every Pokemon in the metagame (though tbh it doesn't actually need Recover to get past almost all), so I am a little surprised it didn't see as much usage as I was expecting.

:exeggutor:
Exeggutor usage being high was rather unsurprising, with a solid tool kit at its disposal it can really do just about anything on teams. Amnesia sets in combination withone of its STABs and Explosion pretty much guarantee at least one kill on the team, and Sleep Powder sets can be annoying as well. I'd say Exeggutor is one of the more potent Pokemon in the metagame right now.

:rhydon:
Rhydon saw a pretty underwhelming amount of usage and honestly I think I've come to realize that it's just not very good in the current meta. While I do think it's nice to have an Electric immunity on your team, the popularity of Glare to paralyze foes negates that niche a good deal. Additionally, Rhydon typically loses to Normal types as long as they have recover, since it's worn down very quickly. It does have a decent damage output so I wouldn't say it's outright bad, but the current metagame is especially awful to it.

:gengar:
It's pretty unsurprising that Gengar saw a good amount of usage this tour, as a Normal immunity can be invaluable in some matchups. Explosion is always a nice niche to have as well.

:aerodactyl:
Aerodactyl's usage was somewhat surprising, I had tried it out before and as somewhat unimpressed but it had a really solid showing this tour thanks to its STABs and crit rate doing wonders in some games. Definitely think it's formulated a solid niche in the metagame

:vaporeon:
Vaporeon is a Pokemon I definitely want to see more from- I think it is very underrated in the metagame right now and has a lot of potential to be a top tier threat. It has a ton of tools at its disposal, from Growth to Glare to Transform, and Crabhammer is just incredibly solid to have on teams right now. I do think some of its niche is taken by Starmie but its bulk is definitely notable to say the least.

:zapdos::cloyster:
These two also saw disappointing usage, and in Cloyster's case, terrible winrates. I'm a little surprised to see them both do so poorly but it's a little hard to justify either over Jolteon or Starmie/Vaporeon right now.

Moving forward, I do want to open up a discussion about the current metagame and how people feel its playing out. There's some pretty big threats in the meta right now that are very tough to deal with, but I'm interested to see what others think on each issue.

Tauros- Tauros is the most broken thing in the metagame currently in my opinion. Its speed tier, power, and bulk are all too much and with Slash, Swords Dance, and Recover it's always an immediate threat and capable of staying one throughout the match.

Amnesia- Amnesia being widespread has been difficult for some teams to manage, but if I'm being honest it's practically the only thing setting the meta apart from RBY OU, so I'm pretty hard against restricting it at this time. I'd much rather look at specific abusers, but right now I don't have a clear target in mind. I honestly haven't felt like it's insanely broken on any one Pokemon in particular, and the metagame has formulated around it well. Starmie, Alakazam, Exeggutor, and Jynx are all potentially broken by it but right now I think I'd prefer to let this one sit.

Snorlax- I don't really think Snorlax is broken, just overwhelmingly good at what it does. I probably wouldn't be opposed to banning it if people wanted to but I think it's fine in the current meta

Recover- This is a very strange topic that popped into my head at one point so I will post about it for posterity. Recover is interesting to consider restricting because of its potential to run games into a PP stalling war too often. I don't think it's broken in any sense but being a 32 PP recovery move has its benefits that I'd probably say lowers the quality of the metagame some in comparison to Pokemon just using Soft-Boiled instead. I don't plan on doing anything with this unless there's randomly an outcry to restrict it, but I did feel like mentioning it at the very least.

A lot of these are pretty strange takes and not typically takes I'd have with a normal metagame but with the limited content of Gen 1 I feel like approaching some of these things in an unorthodox way might be best.

Other than Tauros, I feel like the metagame is pretty clean right now. Obviously Gen 1 has its quirks that aren't for everyone but outside of that I'd say we're looking really solid.

I'd love to beef up the resources a bit and open up some discussion from people who participated in the tour. I did want to thank you all again for participating and feel free to post below with any thoughts on the metagame and share any teams or anything else from the tour you'd like to!

Howdy! I unfortunately didn't play in the RBY STABmons Tournament (I was busy with RBY PL II and frankly, I'm not the best team builder, which is why I didn't submit any samples like a month ago [sorry in the hills]), but I have been thinking about the meta lately, watched most of the tournament games, and made some time to play a few sets recently. Since then, I have made a Viability Rankings for the tier and have a few thoughts I'd like to share. This VR is a bit dated, as I made it like a month ago, just a heads up. Before I begin, I want to thank in the hills for supporting the RBY STABmons community and congratulate Mikon on her victory in the tournament.

I arrived at the same "Big 4" as in the hills. I personally believe Snorlax is the single best Pokemon in the metagame due to its sheer versatility. It has like half a dozen sets, all of which are incredible. It can run a standard physical set, a Quick Attack set, a Slash set, an Amnesia set, a Transform set, you name it. It soft checks the majority of the tier and you generally need to develop multiple contingency plans just to reliably deal with it. I really don't see any reason to play without it.

I don't agree that Tauros is the biggest threat in the metagame. While it is a menace, it doesn't really do well against Snorlax and faster Pokemon like Starmie and Alakazam can usually get rid of it with little issue. Still very powerful and versatile though.

Chansey is an obvious choice in any metagame where Starmie is really good and it I'm pretty sure it has the largest movepool in the entire metagame, so that's impressive. My only comment with Chansey is I think Transform is kind of a waste on it. The move is buggy as anything and it usually gives your opponent a free turn. I won't say it is bad, but I really think Chansey has many better options.

Starmie is another insane Pokemon, and it could easily be #1 or #2 in the metagame. I actually think it's best without Amnesia right now because Crabhammer just does so much damage to everything, even Chansey. Amnesia is definitely viable though, and you can totally run both. Speed, paralysis, recovery, and a huge pool of moves make it an obvious choice in the metagame and pretty much an automatic addition.

A

A+ is a lot better than A-. In hindsight, Exeggutor could probably get its own tier. Agility, Amnesia, and Razor Leaf are all terrifying on a bulky Pokemon with Sleep Powder. Exeggutor is a really easy addition as well because it actually checks most Starmie sets and it is decent against the Normals. Also, sleep is just broken in every RBY metagame, so no reason to skip it here.

Alakazam is pretty much just less interesting Starmie. It is a decent lead and has a great Speed tier. Nothing crazy, but really good.

Jynx uses Lovely Kiss, Amnesia, and then attacks. Very simple. Very effective.

Jolteon is not nearly as good as it used to be without Wrap and Lovely Kiss. It still finds a niche with Speed, Thunderbolt, and every Normal-type move, but it is remarkably manageable. It's still a solid lead and can catch people off guard with its wide variety of sets, especially with stuff like Super Fang and Explosion.

Gengar doesn't really do anything aside from checking Pokemon that rely too heavily on Normal-type moves. Just goes to show how good they are.

Rhydon soft checks Normal-type Pokemon like Gengar does and blocks Jolteon (and Zapdos) harder. It is also nice to have a hard-hitting physical attacker in a meta with a lot of Special offense and paralysis flying around. Also, while Rhydon gets no real moves in this meta, the nature of it actually gives it more room to experiment with stuff like Rest and Leer.

B

Zapdos doesn't actually have much to do in this meta. I probably overrated it because I'm naturally biased towards OU Pokemon. It doesn't get anything aside from Mirror Move and Jolteon (who is already only good) pretty clearly outclasses it most, though not all, of the time. Most of B Rank is honestly kind of mediocre and relatively niche. This meta is very centralized.

Kangaskhan can dedicate itself to checking Snorlax with Defense Curl / Recover / Slash / Filler (usually Glare). This is actually very reliable and surprisingly dangerous. And of course, it can always run classics like Super Fang, Explosion, Transform, and so on. I credit Mikon for this idea.

Aerodactyl is a profoundly fun Pokemon. Rock Slide, Drill Peck, and Mirror Move are all really neat options and give Aerodactyl a lot of versatility. It's really funny because Aerodactyl can function as both a wall and a sweeper, thanks to its typing and stats.

Persian is a second Tauros that is worse at basically everything aside from Speed. It's good for revenge killing and then just blowing up or something.

Vaporeon gets Crabhammer and every Normal-type move. This Pokemon has a ton of unexplored potential and saw success the few times it was used. Look out for this one.

Cloyster probably does okay with Normal-type Pokemon running the show. It kind of sucks against everything else relevant though, so I'm not surprised to see it struggling.

Gyarados is genuinely an offensive behemoth, but it is pretty awkward to build with because of its typing and Speed. It's not bad at all though and it can apply a lot of pressure, now that it gets true STAB moves on top of perfect coverage. Like seriously, just look at this thing's stat line. It is scary.

C

Most of these Pokemon are just underutilized ideas. I don't really have any specific comments on any of them. I think all them at least meet a loose definition of viable. Try them out.

Here I'm just going to collect a few other thoughts I have on the current state of STABmons.

Recover is by far the best move in RBY, period. It's kind of funny because I would spend a lot of time designing these really dynamic offensive sets for Pokemon like Tauros and Persian and it would just be a complete waste time. Literally always run Recover if the Pokemon can learn it. This move is pretty much completely broken, but I probably wouldn't ban it because you have to keep offense in check somehow. By the way, this still applies if you plan on using Explosion or Transform or whatever. Seriously, always run Recover.

I think Transform is mediocre. I see a lot of players, including really good ones, use this move and I just never really see it accomplish anything. It usually just kills momentum and leads to nothing. It also doesn't handle boosts properly, so you might end up just getting swept by the Pokemon you transformed into. It's not unviable, but I really don't think it is anything amazing and most Pokemon that could use it are better off not in most cases.

Explosion is a bit underappreciated in this metagame. With this much boosting, you can get a lot out of having an auto KO button at your disposal. It honestly isn't a bad strategy to run five or six bombs and just hope that you can win the final one-on-one.

Status is really good in this metagame. There isn't much of a reason to skip Sleep as usual. Also, paralysis is probably more dangerous than it has ever been. With all the boosting in this metagame, one or two free turns can and will cause you to lose immediately. Thunder Wave, Stun Spore, and Glare should be used very liberally.

I hope you found this interesting. Thank you for reading. Cheers!

While I made it to semis, idt i'm good at this metagame. However, I tend to agree with a lot of points of the above post.

I also think Snorlax is the best Pokémon in the tier and with my limited experience I didn't find any way to play around it safely and succesfully. Snorlax has the potential to completely overwhelm you with one of its multiple boosting sets if you already have a sleep fodder, and a lot of time, my gameplan ended up being "freeze the Snorlax". Tbh Snorlax has ruined my interest in the tier and I don't plan to play it again if it remains in the tier, unless somehow effective counterplay is found.

Tauros isn't that good and Volk explained it quite well, and that leads me to answer ith's question on why Aerodactly was so used. I only used once Aerodactyl and I mainly used it as a Tauros check due to most of them dropping Blizzard for SD / Slash / Explosion that also brought a form of speed control. Maybe if Tauros start running Recover + SD, Reflect Aerodactly will stop being relevant, but in my few testings it was the most reliable Tauros check i found.

I don't get the point of Transform as it doesn't copy boosts and therefore doesn't let you check more things most of the time. I saw it on Chansey's and Vaporeon's sample sets and never found the use to click it unless saving PP, which ended up never mattering since a Pokemon usually succeeds to break (usually Lax) before this happens.

Wanted to post some thoughts about the tier here.

2IMpJhx.png

This is my personal VR - I haven't used most of the Pokemon in C rank though, so I just ordered them depending on how I think they would do.
:rb/tauros: Tauros
Tauros is the biggest threat here in my opinion. Unlike Snorlax, it always scores critical hits with Slash, letting it 3HKO (at worst) everything in the metagame that doesn't resist it. Tauros outspeeds most Pokemon as well, meaning that anything that tries to switch into it will have to take two Slashes before being able to move. A lot of Pokemon are only just capable of sustaining this and do not have Recover access to heal it off. As for faster Pokemon, Slash 2HKOes all of them save for Aerodactyl, meaning they have to be kept unparalysed to be able to switch in. Aside from Aerodactyl, Gengar and Rhydon are the only relatively notable Pokemon that do not fear switching into Slash. However, except for Rhydon, these Pokemon are mediocre, and none of these three have paralysis moves (and Gengar can only threaten it with Hypnosis if its team hasn't gotten sleep off already), and do not do enough damage to Tauros to threaten it if it is using Recover, which it absolutely should be. Tauros can also quite easily just run a coverage move to hit two of them. All of this makes switching into and dealing with Tauros very difficult.

Thanks to Slash, Tauros does not need to spend a turn setting up with Swords Dance to do consistently solid damage, and it can drop it for other moves like Glare, Defence Curl, Explosion, and Earthquake. Glare is the most reliable way to cripple enemy Tauros in the mirror without sacrificing your own, and it prevents anything that doesn't resist Slash from being able to switch into Tauros safely in the future, which is why I believe a lot of Snorlax sets actually don't do well against Tauros. Nothing that resists Slash appreciates Glare either. Defence Curl allows Tauros to wall and eventually break through physical Snorlax sets with Slash as long as it switches in immediately and is kept away from paralysis. That's not all it does; if Tauros is paralysed, and is fighting a faster paralysed Pokemon, using Defence Curl will reapply their Speed drop and thus make Tauros faster. Earthquake prevents Gengar from walling Tauros and breaks through Rhydon more quickly than Slash. Finally, Explosion deals nuclear damage and allows Tauros to trade for something else. Tauros has more room to bring its different options to a game thanks to not needing Swords Dance, giving it more potential than Snorlax in practice.

:rb/snorlax: Snorlax
Snorlax is a close second. I don't believe it should ever go without Body Slam, Swords Dance, and Recover. There are some options for the last moveslot; Defence Curl and Explosion are the safest choices if you aren't running Gengar and your opponent likes Transform. Defence Curl means you can keep Snorlax in on Transform Chansey and continue setting up until it runs out of PP, and it PP stalls Gengar without worrying about Explosion (as long as it doesn't crit of course) and makes Rhydon and many Snorlax sets a non-issue. However, this move choice makes Snorlax useless against Defence Curl users like Kangaskhan and sometimes Tauros, which can switch in on it and start exerting pressure. Explosion lets Snorlax trade for a transformed Chansey, Crabhammer user, or a DCurl Normal. If Transform isn't an issue, Glare, Quick Attack, and Hyper Beam can be considered as well. Glare is self-explanatory. A +2 Hyper Beam OHKOes any Pokemon without a resistance to it or huge physical bulk. Quick Attack deals fair damage after a boost.

I don't like Amnesia Snorlax much; you need multiple moves to hit everything you want to, and there simply isn't the space for it, it gets 2HKOed by Crabhammer users regardless, and it isn't as dangerous as physical sets even after setting up. If you choose to run it on a Swords Dance set, you put yourself at risk of Transform without doing anything to really help Snorlax's other matchups. Reflect works against Transform users too, but Snorlax is still KOed by +6 Body Slam + Hyper Beam from other Snorlax after using it.

Snorlax is powerful, but there is counterplay to it. As stated before, Defence Curl Normal-types can wall it, and Tauros and Kangaskhan can even break through with Slash and Glare. Vaporeon is the same story, and even 2HKOes with Crabhammer, though it does have to watch out for Body Slam paralysis. Other Crabhammer users like Starmie and Gyarados have a positive matchup against it until it sets up. Swords Dance users with access to Explosion (i.e. every Normal type) can trade for Snorlax, if necessary. Don't Transform into Snorlax, it likely won't pay off.

:rb/chansey: Chansey
Transform Chansey is very popular, and I liked it a lot in the past as well. On paper, it can set up Reflect if necessary and Transform into something like Snorlax or Tauros, gaining a huge advantage over them and potentially even sweeping in the event of the former. However, in practice, this is not what happens - the opponent will most likely switch out of Tauros into their own Chansey, or if they keep Snorlax in, they have a way to stop Chansey after it transforms. Thus, Transform only serves as a PP stall option against prepared players.

I think Recover / Thunder Wave / Seismic Toss / Super Fang or Sing is the best set for it. You can spread status and force recovery turns with it, which you can use to switch to a teammate that is more capable of dealing with the foe and force progress. Of course, having Sing on Chansey means you don't need to spend a slot on a different sleeper as well.

As for other options, Glare is less reliable than Thunder Wave, but hits Rhydon. Sand Attack isn't the worst thing you can use either. Conversion might be funny, but it's gimmicky. I wouldn't use Growth; it takes far too many turns for Chansey to become a threat with it, and even when it does, it still gets walled by other Chansey.

:rb/starmie: Starmie
I agree with Volk that Amnesia isn't optimal on this, though I would go further and say it's a waste of a moveslot. Crabhammer hits most Pokemon like a truck already, and Starmie has the coverage to hit the things that resist it. Moreover, you have to give up Thunder Wave if you want to run two attacks alongside Amnesia, rendering Starmie incapable of paralysing Tauros and greatly restricting its usefulness in general. I would go with Thunderbolt as its other attacking move, as there are multiple Water-types in the metagame that can wall Starmie otherwise, while the only relevant thing Blizzard does is hit Exeggutor, which still beats Starmie one-on-one unless it critical hits or boosts with Amnesia beforehand. Being walled by Exeggutor is definitely not pleasant either, but at least it lacks recovery, and Razor Leaf isn't nearly as scary to deal with as Crabhammer. Starmie is the "worst" of the Big 4 here in my opinion, but it's still wonderful and it shouldn't be dropped without a good reason.

:rb/exeggutor: Exeggutor
I don't like boosting moves on Exeggutor either. It's very slow and it doesn't have recovery, and you spend the setup turns doing nothing, so it won't end up accomplishing much. Not only that, you have to give up strong utility moves like Explosion to run them. I personally think Sleep Powder / Razor Leaf / Psychic / Explosion is a better set for it, as Exeggutor is immediately useful with it. Stun Spore is a good option as well. Dropping Psychic is probably best if you're going to use that, as Razor Leaf's ability to hit Starmie (and Jynx if it switches in) is very valuable, but there is a case to drop Razor Leaf instead, as dropping Psychic leaves you walled by Gengar.

:rb/alakazam: Alakazam
Alakazam gets Amnesia, but is otherwise the same as always. It's not as good as it is in OU. I wouldn't count Seismic Toss out as an option for it - it's nice to do consistent damage to other Psychics without needing a boost, and considering how vulnerable it becomes when it takes paralysis, and how rare Rest is, opportunities to set up Amnesia that are actually worthwhile are few and far between.

I've seen Barrier on it a few times. It's bad.

:rb/jynx: Jynx
I'm not fond of Jynx; Rest isn't going to work on it in this tier, so if it's matched up against a paralysis lead, you won't be able to sack it to sleep after it gets off Lovely Kiss. Starmie 2HKOes it with Crabhammer too, so it has a chance to achieve nothing in that lead matchup. You probably shouldn't attempt to wallbreak with Amnesia until later in the game, as Chansey and Starmie are everywhere and will prevent it from accomplishing much. I don't even really like Amnesia on it, but it doesn't have much else it can run.

:rb/kangaskhan: Kangaskhan
Volk said pretty much everything, but as I said earlier, Tauros can run the same set. Running Kangaskhan gives you more justification to run something else with Tauros, though, and having multiple Normals with Glare isn't a bad choice at all considering how much of a threat they are.

:rb/rhydon: Rhydon
While Rhydon's damage output with Earthquake isn't as impressive here, it's still useful against paralysed Starmie and Chansey (set up Substitute first though obviously). Its almost unique Thunder Wave immunity shouldn't be understated, as it gives it more opportunities to switch in and lets it wall Electric-types without being crippled by paralysis. Tauros does not want to switch into it either if it makes the mistake of dropping Recover. Glare existing now isn't a complete loss for it, as it is very good at taking advantage of the paralysis spread by it. Rhydon sees better days in OU, though.

Rhydon should generally stick to the set of Earthquake / Rock Slide / Body Slam / Substitute, but Leer is a nice option for Snorlax without Defence Curl.

:rb/vaporeon: Vaporeon
Vaporeon's Crabhammer is the most potent in the metagame aside from the niche Tentacruel and 3HKOes Starmie 75% of the time, and I believe its special bulk is second only to Chansey. Starmie's Thunderbolt only 4HKOes it, and even Jolteon's Thunderbolt rarely 2HKOes it. Its physical bulk isn't as outstanding, but it's still solid, and it can run Acid Armor to check Snorlax if it wants, though it is subject to Body Slam paralysis unlike Normal-types. Vaporeon has a much better defensive typing than Jolteon does as well. It shouldn't need to be said that, among other things, it gets Recover to take full advantage of all of this due to it getting all Normal-type moves.

:rb/gyarados: Gyarados
Nothing in this tier can switch into Gyarados safely; its Crabhammer is just as powerful as Starmie's, Drill Peck scores a 2HKO on Exeggutor and a 3HKO on Chansey, Thunderbolt hits other Gyarados and Starmie for more damage, Body Slam paralyses switchins and Hyper Beam has a chance to KO Chansey after Drill Peck (and Vaporeon if DP crits on the switchin). It even lacks Water and Ice weaknesses, unlike Aerodactyl. Its Speed isn't the best, but it's good enough to outspeed a decent portion of the metagame. I feel that this and Vaporeon aren't getting as much use as they should.

:rb/Jolteon: Jolteon
Jolteon sees lots of use, and I think it's overhyped. Even with Recover, Jolteon is still poor defensively, and its ability to check Zapdos has less value here. Not many Pokemon enjoy being paralysed, but Jolteon takes it much worse than most others. It's held back by 4MSS as well, and while having Super Fang helps it against Exeggutor and Rhydon, it still won't be beating them. Perhaps I'm underrating it, but it did perform poorly in the tour.

:rb/zapdos: Zapdos
Zapdos is pretty much unchanged here. It didn't need anything new, though - it's still great against Starmie and Exeggutor, and it's better than Jolteon against Chansey. Unlike Gyarados, Zapdos can OHKO Gyarados and 2HKO Vaporeon with Thunderbolt thanks to the STAB boost. Recover being everywhere means it's not as good as it is in OU, but I think it's closer to Jolteon than people give it credit for.

:rb/gengar: Gengar
Gengar doesn't actually do a good job of walling (most) Normal-types a lot of the time, as it has to take Glare paralysis in doing so, Tauros can just Earthquake it if it's running that, and Defence Curl users PP stall it and are fine with being Exploded on as long as it's not a critical hit. That said, running it does give you more room to run different moves in Snorlax's last slot, as it can PP stall transformed Chansey at least.

:rb/persian: Persian
Persian isn't great, but it's the fastest Normal-type. Unfortunately, though, it's too frail to run Defence Curl. Gengar and Rhydon are issues for it too.

:rb/aerodactyl: Aerodactyl
I don't think Aerodactyl is good in this tier. Its newfound STAB moves generally do moderate damage at best unless the foe is weak to them, and the only other thing it has to its name is that it outspeeds everything viable except for Jolteon, which it ties with. The critical hit rate is nice, but you can't rely on it. It is terrible defensively - it possesses weaknesses to Water, Ice, and Electric, and mediocre bulk, so anything can threaten it - it is crippled by paralysis, and most Pokemon are able to induce it with Thunder Wave, Glare, or even Body Slam - and finally, it lacks Recover, meaning it has to rely on Mirror Move for recovery. This is before we consider that it's still walled by Rhydon. Aerodactyl had a good winrate in the tour, but I don't believe this is representative of how good it is, given how many Tauros were dropping Recover.

Mirror Move is interesting, but it is exploitable, as it obviously depends entirely on the opponent's move choices and fails if they switch out. Moreover, Aerodactyl still can't trade paralysis with it as it is faster than nearly everything else, so it gets crippled by the Normal-types that it's supposed to be walling without doing anything of worth in return.

:rb/cloyster::rb/lapras: :rb/slowbro: Cloyster, Lapras, and Slowbro
I don't like these Pokemon much. Rest isn't going to work on most Pokemon on this tier, and they are no exception. This leaves them without recovery, limiting how much they can do in a game in comparison to other things like Vaporeon, and they don't have the sheer offensive power that Gyarados does. Cloyster and Lapras aren't without merit at least, as the former has Clamp and Explosion, while the latter has Thunderbolt and Sing. These aren't good Pokemon though.

Slowbro is a Starmie that gives up Speed, Recover, and Thunderbolt for better physical bulk, which doesn't matter as it won't actually be able to heal off damage. Crabhammer is notably less powerful, not being able to 2HKO Snorlax or Alakazam (and it doesn't even always crit lol). It's not remotely worth it.

Some teams:
:rb/jynx: :rb/starmie: :rb/chansey: :rb/tauros: :rb/snorlax: :rb/rhydon: Jynx Mie Don
:rb/starmie: :rb/exeggutor: :rb/chansey: :rb/tauros: :rb/snorlax: :rb/kangaskhan: Mie Egg Kanga
I've used these two teams the most, and they've worked well. They aren't out of the ordinary, so I don't think it's necessary to explain them. Explosion is an option over Defence Curl for Snorlax on the Kangaskhan team, but DCurl is probably better as Kangaskhan just sort of gets ruined by Glare Snorlax.

I ran a couple other teams in the finals of the tournament. They are more experimental, though, and I haven't used them as much. I might go over them at some point, but this will do for now.
