Super Smash Bros 4 (Spoilers ITT)

Way lame. The fact that Melee won (and not Brawl or something) was the only consolation for Skullgirls losing and then we get this. I hope they fill the stream time with something decent.
 
This is awful, awful news. I would encourage you all to make a fuss about this and try to appeal to nintendo to change their decision. Appeal, don't get angry. If we can speak loudly enough and get lucky enough, we may see change

Oh god, my mortal enemy has made a return. All seriousness it's good to see some more characters, and veterans at that, and holy cow those graphics! The stage that looks to be the new Pikmin stage looks beautiful. This game just keeps blowing me away.


I know i'm a bit late to that conversation but I always find it weird when people say Brawl is more floaty and slower than Melee when I feel the complete opposite, and I've played all three installments. Just a weird realization I've come to.
 
Happy to see Olimar back, Let's hope they balance his obnoxiously good stage control a little more this time around. At a glance, it looks like his old F-smash, D-Smash, and Bair are back, at least.

Also agreeing Olimar looks absolutely stunning in HD.

Edit: We're getting some really good shit on this stream. There was a Puff vs Sheik match in a pool that came down to both at 90%. Sheik player transforms to zelda, up Bs to the stage, and gets a lightning kick on jiggs. Our reactions:

Had great fun tonight with #ssb watching the streams together; the sheik v puff moment was indeed epic, as was a lot of other stuff. If you have even a cursory interest in watching your favorite nintendo franchises kick the shit out of each other (which i assume you do if you're itt) then you should stop by tomorrow from 10 to 2 PST (GMT-7) to watch the quarters and semis. If you haven't played competitive melee, don't worry; i never had the fortune to own a copy of Melee but the commentators made it easy to pick up on what was happening, and get engaged in the matches. (it was overall great commentary—there's an fsmash in that bowl of almonds)
 
Btw, is anyone up for making hypothetical movesets for possible newcomers?

I ended up making a theoretical moveset for Paper Mario the other day and shared it with #ssb, so I figure I might as well kick this sort of thing off.

Jab Attack: Overworld Hammer- Does a quick hammer swing, identical to swinging the hammer in the overworld in Paper Mario 64 / TTYD / SS. Note that it's similar to Ganon and Zelda's Jab in that it's a single attack, not a combo.
Dash Attack: Spin Attack- Mario does the Spin Attack you could perform in the overworld in Paper Mario 64. I guess if we want to be thorough, you can cancel it with a jump like in Paper Mario 64 :d
Forward Tilt: Koops / Kooper- Mario fires Koops / Kooper off to the side as a projectile
Up Tilt: Tornado Jump- Mario performs the Tornado Jump the Ultra Boots gave him in Paper Mario 64.
Down Tilt: Spike Helmet- Mario puts on the spiked gooba helmet identical to how he did in Sticker Star.

Forward Smash: Power Smash- Mario performs the Power Smash, the first badge ever received in the series
Up Smash: Mario raises a Crystal Star above his head as if starting to use a special attack in TTYD.
Down Smash: Mario performs the spinning hammer attack the super hammer could perform in TTYD.

Neutral Air: Stylish Belly Flop- Mario does the stylish belly flop from the jumping action command in TTYD.
Forward Air: Midair Hammer Swing- Mario rears back his hammer and does a slow, mighty swing with an animation identical to using the quake badge in Paper Mario 64.
Back Air: Watt- Mario pulls out Watt and thrusts her behind him ala captain falcons bair, but with a multi hit electric hitbox.
Up Air: Parakarry- Parrakarry flaps violently. I guess stall properties like lucario's dair isn't out of the question.
Down Air: Spin Jump: Mario does the ground pound from Paper Mario 64 / TTYD. Stall then fall aerial.

Neutral B: Hammer Charge- Mario does the action command for the hammer. Audible sounds play, with the big ding resulting in max damage. Can be done airborne.
Side B: Bobberly / Bombette- Mario tosses Bobberly / Bombette just like he could do in the overworld. Only one can be deployed at a time.
Up B: Spring Jump- Mario performs the Spring Jump the Ultra Boots gave him in TTYD / Luigi had in Super Paper Mario
Down B: Sushie- Squirtle / Normal Mario's water special attack but with Sushie from Paper Mario 64
Final Smash: Supernova- Mario pulls out the crystal star and the action command for the attack begins. White lines will cut through the screen; characters hit will take damage and be frozen in place until the attack ends. More lines through the opponent equals more damage / knock back.

Other Attacks / Animation
Grab: Mario simply grabs the opponent
Pummel: Mario does a simple headbutt
Forward Throw: Mario raises the opponent above his head, then tosses him aside as if discarding an item in 64 / TTYD
Back Throw: Mario does the spinning super hammer attack, but with his opponent in hand instead of his hammer
Up Throw: Mario presents the opponent like an item, then flings them upwards.
Down Throw: Mario slams his opponent onto the ground, then hops on them as if performing a power bounce.

Up Taunt: Mario gives a thumbs up, then tips his hat, identical to how he does so in his battle victory animation.
Side Taunt: Mario Trips
Down Taunt: Mario makes his scared / flailing hands animation that happened fairly regularly in TTYD

Glide: Paper Mario can glide. Mario transforms into the paper airplane from TTYD.
Glide Attack: Mario transforms back into his normal self
Spot Dodge Animation: Lady Bow- Mario crouches and Lady Bow quickly makes him invisible.
Roll Animation: Vivian- Vivian drags Mario into the abyss, then resurfaces based on which direction you did your roll.

Entrace: Mario enters through a 3D flip ala Super Paper Mario.
Running Animation: Mario does a quicker walk, but Daschell from Super Paper Mario appears behind him
Crouch Animation: Mario does his defending animation from 64 / TTYD / SS

Yeah, going off the deep end was precisely the reason why I asked first! Anyway, I've seen people saying that Genesect has a chance, but no-one has been asking for Keldeo, even though he really is just as likely. So imma make a moveset for him.
Basic Character Attacks:
Jab Attack: Horn Slash - Keldeo does a downwards slash with his horn, then an upwards slash.​
Dash Attack: Horn Attack - Keldeo does a galloping horn stab.​
Forward Tilt: Double Kick - Keldeo turns around and kicks with his back legs.​
Up Tilt: - Arc Slash - Keldeo swings his horn in an arc above him.​
Down Tilt: - Lying Slash - Keldeo does a horizontal slash while lying on the ground​
Forward Smash: Secret Sword - Keldeo performs a single hard horn slash.​
Up Smash: Rearing Combo - Keldeo rears up while performing an upwards slash. Pressing the attack button again causes Keldeo to do a backflip kick, much like Link's forward smash.​
Down Smash: Turning Stab - Keldeo turns around while performing a low slash, then stabs with his horn.​
Neutral Air: Aqua Tail - Keldeo spins in the air, attacking with his tail.​
Forward Air: Aerial Slash - Keldeo does a downward slash.​
Back Air: Drop Kick - Keldeo does a reverse drop kick with his back legs.​
Up Air: Swift Slash - Keldeo flicks his head above him while slashing with his horn.​
Down Air: Leg Slam - Keldeo thrusts his front legs below him. Meteor smash.​
Neutral B: Hydro Pump - A chargeable non-damaging attack with a storable charge, much like Mario's Down B and Squirtle's Neutral B. The main difference is that Hydro Pump acts as a single hit that covers a few feet in front of Keldeo and has high knockback, instead of a continuous stream of water that pushes foes back.​
Side B: Focus Blast - A chargeable projectile attack. Unlike Hydro Pump, the charge can't be stored. An uncharged Focus Blast is weak, but is fairly speedy. Charging the Focus Blast increases the power and knockback, but decreases the speed.​
Up B: Aqua Jet - Keldeo sprays water from his hooves to fly up at a steep angle. The attack doesn't cause any damage, but the stream of water below Keldeo can push foes down.​
Down B: Swords Dance - Keldeo performs a stance and battle cry. The animation for this takes about as long as Ganondorf's Warlock Punch. After performing Swords Dance, the next basic attack Keldeo performs will have increased power, knockback and range. Attacks involving Keldeo's horn will have his horn glow orange and extend, and all other attacks will have a water jet effect.​
Final Smash: Resolute Form - Keldeo transforms into his Resolute Form for about 18 seconds. In the Resolute Form, Keldeo is invulnerable to attacks, is faster, can jump higher, and all his basic attacks will be under the Swords Dance effect. In addition, Hydro Pump and Aqua Jet will cause damage and hitstun and all Focus Blasts will be as powerful as a fully-charged one while having the speed of an uncharged one.​

Grab: Keldeo flips the opponent onto his back.​
Pummel: Keldeo attempts to buck off the opponent.​
Forward Throw: Keldeo bucks off the opponent in front of him, then slashes with his horn.​
Back Throw: Keldeo bucks off the opponent behind him, then kicks with his back legs.​
Up Throw: Keldeo bucks off the opponent above him, then stabs with his horn.​
Down Throw: Keldeo jumps up and turns over, slamming the opponent onto the ground.​
Up Taunt: Keldeo snorts and paws at the ground.​
Side Taunt: Keldeo lowers his head and flicks his tail while exclaiming "You can't defeat me!"​
Down Taunt: Keldeo looks at his hoof, then accidentally sprays water into his face.​
Get Up Attack: Keldeo kicks on both sides of him.​
Ledge Attack: Keldeo climbs up while stabbing with his horn.​

Axe lost to Mango. :(((((((((( It's been a day and I'm still bummed about it, didn't even get to see much Mewtwo from Taj.
 
I was rooting for Wobbles so double disappointment over Axe missing that win against Mango by a hair. Regardless, pulling off what he did was amazing.
 
It was an all around glorious finals in my opinion. So much hype on so many sets. Not to mention so many amazing feats like Wobble's SoPo comeback vs Hungrybox. I've never played melee competitively in my life, have only played Brawl competitively in a really weak scene, so a lot of little things were lost to me, but it was a blast to watch.

i thought gf was alright, but there were much hype-r series. overall a fantastic final 8 to watch and tense as hell.

was cheering for armada, but mango winning is great, mostly just glad the bitch grab didnt win
 
Had an interesting thought on how many characters will be available from the start of the game, I already made a crazy character prediction list here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/super-smash-bros-4.3484810/page-3#post-4732324

I'm going to assume that DDD and MetaKnight will be bumped to unlock so that Kirby is the starting franchise character. Same for Diddy Kong, and Pokemon Trainer could get the same treatment to showcase newer talent right at the start. I would't be surprised if Ike or whatever new FE character is also an unlock, wouldn't be the first time.

I'm also assuming Megaman will not be a starter on the roster, (Sonic and Snake weren't) so the already confirmed are:
-Mario
-Pikachu
-DK
-Fox
-Samus
-Bowser
-Kirby
-Olimar
-Villager
-Pit
-Wii Fit

With that the really obvious other starters being:
-Yoshi
-Wario
-Peach
-Zelda
-Ice Climbers
-Lucas

If we assume at least 20 or up to 25 max we could see up to 8 new characters right out of the box, so 10 new right away for a decent number

couldn't watch all of top 8 but the first half was excellent, mango is so f*cking smooth with fox and same for armada with peach...too bad couldn't see some falcons in the finals =[
