Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Despite not currently being on the viability rankings, Manaphy recently won in SCL. With its good all-round stats and access to an incredible setup move with Tail Glow, Manaphy can quickly snowball into a very threatening sweeper.
I liked the idea of treating manaphy as a faster but frailer version of tapu fini. Tornadus increases Manaphy's STAB damage output and activates its ability Hydration via Rain Dance. The two Fake Out users, Iron Hands and Rillaboom, increases Manaphy's chance to setup. Kingambit was added to take care of Farigiraf should I not be able to do Fake Out rounds because of it. Plus, having another setup attacker sort of gives room for flexibility. Landorus felt like a good last mon because it can take care of a lot of mons that the team may have problems against.
Decided to try Manaphy on hail. Aurora Veil works well for giving Manaphy set-up chances. Manaphy also benefits from Ninetails and Kyrum who deal with water types Manaphy struggles against. Ursaluna + Sinistacha are a pretty standard but great pair that support each other great and both benefit from the aurora veil having damage for easier setup for Ursaluna or easier Trick Rooms for Sinistacha. Kingambit was a good 6th mon to deter intimidated and less damage from aurora veil
Wanted to build something with Baton Pass Manaphy, so that you can take advantage of its decent bulk to set up, and then pass to something else that has better sweeping moves. Gholdengo is an obvious choice, because it can’t be whirlwinded, and can switch in on grass moves that would be targeting Manaphy. But the team has other options depending on what your opponent has, between Tornadus/Landorus/Gholdengo/Magmar you have plenty of options to pass to.
Manaphy’s EVs allow it to take two Horn Leeches at +1 defense in grassy terrain from sample ogerpon-wellspring, and magmar is able to take an Earth Power from Landorus.
This weeks competition will be a bit diffrent then the normal one as you mightve already noticed by me announcing the winner. This will be a one off teambuilding comp which doesn't have a specific pokemon but instead a specific goal, make your team as aesthetically pleasing as possible! There is video here that explains it and eragon, myself and possibly Despacito87 will be the judges for this week! PS. There will be a prize! The winner will get to request 3 teams (one made by every judge) in a meta of choice with a pokemon of choice! GLHF all!
Thanks NinjaSnapple for letting us take over for a week <3
I like red/green as a color scheme just sort of in general. They're complementary colors that can evoke sort of nature-ey feelings while still being very vibrant. The Rillaboom is also supposed to be shiny, but idk how to get it to show up in smogon text formatting. After choosing a rough colour scheme for the team, I basically tried doing a sort of a bell curve-ish to make the team look better.
