The rest in dumped into SpDef and HP, prioritizing Spdef. Fire Tera means you resist fiery dance or flamethrower, but more importantly means you can't be burned by flame body.

Bronzong is a solid defensive pokemon, and always has been. Even in OU, where it's considered a mediocre option, any player that has faced one in the past knows how frustrating a Bronzong is to take down. That said, a traditional Bronzong is absolutely nothing in the face of any setup sweeper. Especially Volcarona. Gyro Ball is resisted, so even at +6 it'll do limited damage.

The only other move run on Bronzong that could even slightly threaten Volcarona is the resisted Body Press, which also will hardly harm it.

In return, Volcarona sets up Quiver Dances for free. The best thing Bronzong can do is Light Screen and then swap to an ally. Volcarona will have nullified the Light Screen, being at +2 Spa, and now outruns the enemy team and tanks special hits all day. Bronzong has set the team up for faliure. Any smart player would see the opportunity as a wincon and take it.

Which is where this very anti-meta Bronzong comes in. Lets start by addressing the choice of ability. Heatproof over Levitate. The confusion is exactly what we want. Bronzong's Levitate is the most iconic part about it. Knowing this, how often have you pressed a ground type move against Bronzong? The answer should be roughly never. We never assume that any Bronzong isn't running levitate. So lets use that to our advantage. Heatproof will guarantee that Bronzong comfortably lives a Flamethrower from Volcarona. Meanwhile it won't need Levitate because no one will use ground moves on it anyway.

Even at +2 and no Light Screen, Bronzong lives.

I'm now going to go through the possible scenarios to highlight how often this will work.

Scenario A:
The enemy brings in Volcarona on Bronzong as it probably uses Light Screen. Expecting it to swap, they press Quiver Dance. Rock Blast OHKOs. Bronzong wins.

Scenario B:
Identical to scenario A, except Volcarona presses Flamethrower, doing less than half to Bronzong, and dying in return.

Scenario C:
Volcarona presses Quiver Dance as Bronzong uses Rock Blast. Bronzong gets only 2 hits, leaving Volcarona with a maximum of 33.2% health.

0+ Atk Bronzong Rock Blast (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 208-248 (66.8 - 79.7%) -- approx. 2HKO

Most Volcarona will respond by pressing Flamethrower, expecting to kill and falling short, before dying to the second rock blast.
+1 252 SpA Volcarona Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Heatproof Bronzong: 164-194 (48.5 - 57.3%) -- 93.4% chance to 2HKO

Alternatively, a safe player may (Quite unreasonably if you ask me) Tera Ground in order to guarantee they survive a rock blast (As if they wouldn't normally kill). Because of this, and the fact that Volcarona is at +1 speed, the right move is Gyro Ball, which kills even if they don't Tera and doesn't risk a miss.

This scenario only comes into play if the Volcarona knows you are a Heatproof Bronzong. They immediately Tera Ground and Tera Blast.

This is why, to be safe, you want a Light Screen up as the Volcarona swaps in. That way you can still beat it in 3 turns.

Incidentally, Volcarona resists both of those, and has Flame Body to potentially make the Orthworm player feel really stupid for trying to attack with Orthworm. It cleanly kills with Flamethower to put it out of its misery...

...or does it? Of course, instead of the standard Shed Tail set which Cyclizar is way better at pulling off, I present to you Coil Orthworm. 104 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let it outspeed uninvested Great Tusk. The 12 Attack EVs cover for the immediate Tera-Ground play on Volc's part, as Heavy Slam finishes it off from after it took the hit from +1 4 hit Rock Blast that'd otherwise destroy it.

The rest are put into HP first and then Special Defense. Between Tera-Fire and Earth Eater, Orthworm shuts Volc's offensive pressure down entirely, barely giving it the slightest chance for a 3HKO, and affording it the ability to even let Volc get to +3 before needing to deal with it in case you'd rather dick around with it and Coil alongside it.

Volcarona doesn't really fear Gholdengo since it can OHKO it with Flamethrower . Power Gem gurantees a OHKO and Tera Water Tera blast is also a 2hko on Volc . You are scarfed so you always outspeed unless knocked off or tricked.

Usually you expect a focus sash set with earth power, maybe spin, stealth rocks and spikes or sludge wave, which doesnt hit volc hard. So obviously STAB 4x effective 130 Base SpA 252 SpA IV‘s is a OHKO. 252 SpA Glimmora Power Gem vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 504-592 (162 - 190.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO. If it uses tera blast I tera too.
252 SpA Tera Ground Volcarona Tera Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tera Grass Glimmora: 80-95 (26 - 30.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Tera Grass Glimmora Energy Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tera Ground Volcarona: 282-332 (90.6 - 106.7%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
I started to use this set to counter Great Tusk and Rotom-Wash because they thought they could get free damage. But Tera Grass Energy Ball always hits hard and they dont protect because they dont want me to get free rocks. Dazzling Gleam is for Hydreigon and Moon, Sludge Wave for huge STAB damage just like power gem and earth power for glim and an always hitter. Sadly Tera Grass VS Tera Ground Volc doesn’t OHKO but you get huge damage + it can‘t heal and you should always have priority in the back but because ot doesnt quiver Glimmora still outspeeds and kills after both used tera and Glimm just lost 26-31% of the HP VS a danger sweeper.
