Metagame SV OU Metagame Discussion

Can't. It's the only Pokemon in the game currently with Speed Boost, so it'd be a needlessly complex ban just to keep the stupid emu around. It's why Houndstone is banned when Last Respects was the problem. If Blaziken comes out with HOME, then MAYBE we can test Speed Boost, but it's most likely just going to be the stupid bird getting banned.

I'm 99% sure once Basculegion comes out, Houndstone is coming back and Last Respects is getting complex banned since it would wind up banning 3 Pokemon for its crimes.

So, then slap the band-aid on it now and disable speed boost Espathra. Nobody here knows what home will bring so you'd still solve the issue in the short term and have time to resolve it later.

If you're preparing for the unknown, I think the wider larger problem is Terastalization. It's particularly important to investigate whether that's something people want to ride out the generation with it now, so long as it's open to discussion.

Once again, needless complex banning. It isn't a bandaid if Espathra is the only broken Pokemon with Speed Boost. You ban Espathra entirely, no questions asked.

Generally Smogon tiering policy dictates that banning the whole pokemon for the sum of its traits is overall more preferrable than banning a singular trait, especially in a situation where only one pokemon has the combination.

It is a band-aid, especially because it's the only Pokemon using it in the status quo. Then, when and if other speed boost users come out it could be re-evaluated whether Espathra in particular abuses the ability too much. Doesn't sound outlandish to me but if you guys think cooking the bird is a better idea, go for it.

If I had it the same way you want it, Shed Tail would've been banned over Cyclizar, and Last Respects would've been banned over Houndstone. But lo and behold, that is not how the OU Council of ANY generation wants to run things. The only exceptions to this were Arena Trap (and Shadow Tag), after Diglett and Trapinch both showed that the ability was the problem and not just Duggy. The other was Baton Pass after what seems like YEARS of testing and retesting until they finally banned it.

The bird is going to go before Speed Boost goes, that's just how things work around here. If Speed Boost got banned, then Sharpedo/Ninjask/Scolipede/Yanmega suddenly lose one of their best tools (or best in some cases) all because YOU wanted to ban Speed Boost over Espathra.

So out of curiosity, what sets are people finding the most effective and/or fun to play with right now for Great Tusk?

I personally like Booster Energy (252 Att / 252 Speed Jolly) with Close Combat, Rapid Spin, Earthquake and Knock Off (It's pretty good late game, I use it on offensive based teams).

(I don't go with Headlong Rush because there's times I want to hit with a STAB move but keep my defense up)

I love Defensive Tusk (248 HP, 252 Def+) with Leftovers, I usually run Bulk Up, Body Press, Knock Off and Rapid Spin. It can consistently come into physical mons (except Banded Pao locked into an Ice move) and Rapid Spin hazards away, and it hits like a nuke after setting up. I usually use it as a check to the most common physical threats like Tusk, Kingambit, Cinderace, Moon and Dragonite, and sometimes I even manage to sweep with it thanks to the Spin boost.

Sounds like we agree on that, even if it isn't how it goes. I do still feel like Terastalization is a larger issue for metagame health but admittedly I don't have the time to die on that hill right now. I hope it remains an open book in the short-term because if it is an issue as I suspect, it should be resolved quickly. Maybe I'll do some poking around.

In response to the survey thus far, support to act on Espathra has far surpassed that of any other Pokemon. This has even gone further than what Chien-Pao received last survey by a noteworthy margin.

Given this overwhelming support, the council will be voting on it this weekend. There is a chance for tiering action.

I'm thankful to the Council for putting so much work with these surveys and for considering the opinions of the community. Keep up the good work!

I do think it's an unprecedented opportunity for the council to change things, however.

Cast down terastalization from the heavens.
It's pretty dumb.

we are not banning a core mechanic without community support, let alone overriding the result of a recent community vote. this would be a blatant abuse of power.
Let me be the first of your community support. It sucks and is quite terrible for healthy growth. I like my shitmons being relevant but not that much.

this metagame is more centralized statistically than most, especially for this early in OU. i do not think your underlying point here holds much weight or validity.

anything that gets suspected will not have the result overturned without a new release (or home/dlc) unless a sizable amount of time passes. it has been a month. this is not a discussion for now.

oh hi alephgalactus how's the new account treating you
ETA: The suspect test had overwhelming support for tera team preview even within the action community, so I severely doubt many more supporters will promote a QB lol

This is an OU discussion thread so I can post here with my 1059 ELO to radiate upon you. I still hold that tera is broken an unhealthy moving forward. You have the privileges' of choosing when it becomes an issue.
