Resource SV OU Simple Questions, Simple Answers Thread

There's no recent Azumarill teams really ever atleast since the post DLC era, but I spent some good 30 mins on a Choice Band Azumarill Balance team: https://pokepast.es/6b1853fe6a61ed87 it's not perfect but the general idea is u have a decent defensive structure and an AV azumarill that can spread knock off on things like corviknight for banded meow to for example 2 hit KO with Triple Axel. There's issues with getting things in safely since only Meow has a pivot move, but u can try u-turn bb corv over skarm too but you kinda need av glowking to have a passable sub kyurem MU sadly. Azumarill is definitely tricky to build with but hopefully this is your liking and you can branch off from this idea.
Thank you for this!!!!! I definitely will experiment with it to see what I can do!

How is defensive spiker Gliscor on Balance/Bulky Offense teams? I'm thinking paired with Rotom, a contact mon to punish spinners and a mon to take advantage of Defog (Perhaps Trick Meow or something).

And how is Clefabe at Wishpassing? Not necessarily compaired to Alo, because nothing can, but is it so far behind that it isn't worth using? It seems only Alo can claim the title of OU's Sole Wishpasser sometimes.

It's great. Absorbs knock-off, has knock-off himself to remove boots plus he does the usual gliscor things. You can go knock, spikes, protect and choose the last one (toxic, eq, jab...).

Tbh in the current metagame spinblocking is so good that you don't really need a contact mon to punish spinners (although contact damage can still be useful to punish U-turn), you can just run a natural ghost type or run tera ghost on your hazard setter. Gholdengo blocks defog. Of course, punishing spin and defog with the methods you listed can further complement spin/defog blocking but the value spinblocking provides to hazard stack is too valuable to pass up imo.

Clefable's main problem with wish passing is a lack of a pivoting move since it no longer has teleport, so anything you're trying to heal ends up taking a hit on the switch and losing most of what you healed (or just outright dying before the heal activates). If you want to use a weird off-meta wishpasser I feel like Jirachi would be a better option because of that.

I have a question about tiering policy. Last Respects is banned rather than Houndstone and Basculegion because the fact that both of its users are broken proves that the move is the issue. But what if, say, Blissey learned Last Respects? Blissey would obviously not be broken with it. Would Houndstone and Basculegion be Uber, or is it a more subjective (though obviously correct) judgment of "This move breaks anything remotely competent in its use"?

There’s actually a tiering policy rework being done as we speak, but the long story short is we prioritize banning Pokemon over moves and we can only work within the realistic parameters. Stuff like Shed Tail and Last Respects got saved initially and then banned once multiple users, making up the clear majority of their possible users, were problematic. Blissey alone wouldn’t change this, but wider distribution could add a ripple to discussion. We just don’t really tier in theory as opposed to reality, so it’s harder to say.

there technically is already a non-broken last respects user in greavard. (or at least, i highly doubt itd be broken.)

i have my own simple question now
where is this written?
Not sure if it was directly written, most tiering standards aren't or are very hard to find, but when going through just this generations tiering you can find implementation of not counting NFE's per these 2 ban statements.

This is untrue. The move is learned by Houndstone upon evolution.
They most likely mixed up Greavard with Basculin-White-Striped as the NFE that learns it, I forgot as well lol but the reason basculin wasn't considered much like Primeape and rage fist is because it's an NFE, let alone of the same Pokemon line.

I'm not expecting magic, but if one wanted to use Hisui Electrode in this tier, could it accomplish things without being dead weight? Extremely fast T-Wave+Volt Switch+Leech Seed seems like it can accomplish things in certain team comps.

For that matter, how is Meow doing lately? Last I've read, not too good, but that was a few months ago. I'm thinking the Trick set in particular.

For your first question, your best bet for a Pokemon as frail and low powered as Hisui-Electrode is to pull off some cheese. The only cheesy strategies this Pokemon has though are Substitute + Leech Seed + para with Discharge or Twave strategies, which is kinda ok since the only super common grass type in OU currently is Ogerpon-Wellspring who isn't too great into Discharge.

Meowscarada hasn't changed too much besides Choice Scarf losing value since outspeeding +1 speed Roaring Moon isn't a need anymore as its banned. The sets nowadays are either Choice Band or Heavy Duty Boots attacker sets (I've seen some Expert Belt as well). Not much of it's matchups has changed, Corviknight is still popular which forces you to Knock Off first before using Triple Axel, Moltres is a little less common due to Ogerpon-W being used more, Zapdos still exist and Webs despite the Moon ban seems to be doing fine still which absolutely tanks CB sets. I think meowscarada is still a good Pokemon, an offensive check to Woger is always gonna be great and Ice coverage is very clutch in SV OU but it's just difficult to fit onto teams and majority high ladder teams have ways to punish contact moves whether it's Zapdos/Moltres or Rocky Helmet. It also doesn't help that Gweez who's risen in popularity a ton, does very well against the non banded sets. It's a solidly B to maybe B+ Pokemon still, with some minor meta shifts like Gweez that hurts it but this is offset by Woger becoming more dominant which Meowscarada checks offensively.

Is there a defensive Hatterene set for Balance/Bulky Offense with a focus on longevity as opposed to doing damage and getting tfo for her teammates (Healing Wish)?

Hatterene @ Assault Vest
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 HP / 132 SpA / 104 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draining Kiss
- Future Sight
- Nuzzle
- Giga Drain

This is the Hat Set i use when its meant to be a stand in against stall line ups. I forget what the EV's were for benchmark wise but it still holds up well.

if you wanted a healing wish set, here's another one I'd used for a long time:

Hatterene @ Custap Berry
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 92 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Healing Wish
- Draining Kiss
- Nuzzle
- Mystical Fire

This ones built around tanking just enough htis to get into cutsap range/act as an emergency answer to things that you can cripple with nuzzle/healing wish.

Just a general question. I’ve been messing around with a rain team for OU and have been using Battle Bond Greninja with loaded dice item. My question is: is it possible for Water Shuriken to hit 5 times when equipped with the loaded dice or is it always locked into 4 hits? I feel like I have 30+ games played with this Greninja and I have never seen 5 hits, only 4…. And that’s a combination of before Battle Bond is activated and after it’s active. Either way, I’ve only ever seen 4 hits so I’m just curious if it’s a baked in mechanic with the dice or if I’m just unlucky.

Thanks!

Loaded Dice makes it so multi hit moves have a 50% chance to hit 4 times and a 50% chance to hit 5 times.

Edit: Battle Bond used to guarantee 3 hits of Water Shuriken, however the interaction has been removed in gen 9

Thanks for the reply. Seems like in all of my testing I’ve just been extremely unlucky then.
