Project SV OU Teambuilding Competition (Indigo Disk Edition) (Week 21: Iron Hands)

lol I’m just posting this bc deadline seems to be forsaken. Np if it’s too late. Hope all is well.

:glimmora::iron moth::iron valiant::roaring moon::sinistcha::kingambit:
https://pokepast.es/7aff4b2cb0de11b2

this is a hazard stack HO. It uses bulky red card glim to disrupt opposing HO. A fiery moth, moon, and gambit is a very effective offensive core since DLC. Booster Adamant valiant is a crazy breaker, and since now most gliscor are SpD, it can go liquidation instead of ice punch. Sinistcha might be even better than gholdengo on teams like this now. Great stop to doggo, oger, and the annoying salt pile. Compared to gholdengo, this give a ground resist so you can more comfortably run gambit without getting smoked by booster tusk. Moon set is pretty basic. Ground vs ghost Tera depends on the types of priority you see on ladder.

My apologies for letting this slide. We are officially back up and running with the wonderful Mimikyu Stardust as co-host. We will not be holding voting for Week 14, as we have deemed the teams to be too outdated to be judged objectively.

However, with a new week, new meta, and new co-host, what better Pokemon to revive the project than OU's newest darling: Pecharunt.

Week 15: Just Peachy
:sv/pecharunt:

Pecharunt was met with mixed reviews upon release, and was rather quickly given up on. That is, until it became the muse of Mr. laaxheat himself. Pech teams dominated OLT playoffs and the entirety of SCL, seeing use from Week 1 to Finals. Its rise can be owed mostly to its defensive profile, matching up well into a number of OU's top offensive threats and pivoting out to breaker teammates of its own. It even manages to be an effective spinblocker despite its ground weakness, taking less than 50% from Headlong Rush on defensive sets, and outspeeding Tusk on fast sets. The combination of walling Zamazenta + Wellspring + many valiants, Parting Shot, and extraordinary spinblocking capacity make it an excellent enabler for Samurott Hisui, and it forms a solid backbone for offensive teams alongside AV otters. The peach can also be used alongside more balanced or bulky offense-aligned pieces like Ting Lu and Moltres, such as in the team Niko used in SCL finals. This is to say nothing of the absolutely broken coinflip it has allowing it to stop setup sweepers without tera poison/steel. It can also run techs like Foul Play, Nasty Plot, and Destiny Bond. Overall, it provides stability and security to frailer offense teams and a pivot + defensive stop gap for bulky offense teams as well.

No spotlight this week but I will provide examples of teams that have been used in tour for inspiration.

:kingambit: :pecharunt: :dragapult: :weavile: :landorus: :iron crown:

- pult + weavile generally can allow the team to bully the #1 counter to it aka kingambit, with low kick you can lure it in potentially (likely wont work against a good player but low kick can always be there ot threaten it)

- while kingambit is a big threat to the team, the team is quite equiped to deal with it between intimidate, wisp hex pult, tera fighting iron crown, low kick weavile, low kick gambit of ur own, and parting shot on pecharunt to allow smth to come in quite easily

- future sight + weavile can amount ot a lot of pressure to a team, a good double to weavile can score quite a bit of points against the opponent.

- a lot of these pokemon can function to overwhelm kingambit by the late game where pecharunt can use its dumb confusion to wear down opponents especially in conjunction with hex and wisp from pult who can spread it to foes like iron crown, slowking-g, tera steel pokemon, etc

:pecharunt::ting-lu::samurott-hisui::corviknight::enamorus::iron-valiant:

This team started with a defensive backbone that could pivot out of hairy situations in Pecharunt and Corviknight. Ting-Lu shores up the core's struggles against special attackers and can provide an emergency exit button with Red Card. Iron Valiant was added next to offer an offensive presence as a mixed attacker the team sorely needed. The last two sets are not very common. A Choice Scarf Samurott-Hisui can outspeed many unboosted threats such as Dragapult and Meowscarada. I'm not a huge fan of Assault Vest or Focus Sash sets for Samurott-Hisui. Assault Vest doesn't help it check Kyurem and it has more to offer than only setting hazards in the early game. The mixed EVs give Samurott-Hisui a chance to handle Great Tusk, Landorus-Therian, and Glimmora. Enamorus provides much needed wall breaking capabilities. Tera Blast and Superpower give opportunities for it to snowball with Contrary adding stat boosts instead of removing them. I would say the team's toughest matchups are switching in to Volcanion and Kyurem (no great switchins for Kyurem in the tier period as it is), stopping multiple Dragon Dancers from snowballing, and a few stall threats such as Garganacl, Clodsire, and Dondozo. We have outs where necessary, but we don't want to break glass if we don't have to.

Been sitting on this team for a week or two, and I think its pretty good. This team is centered around t-blast electric weavile, though pecha does add a lot defensively. Its a bit weird, but it works.

:pmd/weavile: Main star of the show, tera blast electric weavile can rip through a lot of its usual checks such as moltres and alomomola. Triple axel, knock off and tera blast electric hits most things in the tier for good damage. Tera electric can also help defensively in allowing it to take a hit which might have super effectively hit it, such as clefable moonblast.

:pmd/slither wing: I needed some priority for the team, and a gambit switchin, so here comes slither wing to help defensively and offensively. This is just a standard set, with will-o-wisp crippling switchins, U-turn helping get in weavile and first impression revenge killing faster threats.

:pmd/pecharunt: Subject of this week, pecharunt helps the physical defense of this team and provides another pivot option to get weavile in. Standard moveset, with tera dark for a gambit stopgap.

:pmd/ting lu: I needed a hazard setter, and a special wall. In comes Ting-Lu to wall everything and get lots of chip damage. I decided to use a chesto Resto set, which gives ting lu the ability to come back from low health for free once and can be useful in longer matches to allow it to get up rocks multiple times. Tera poison to help against the fairy types that can be an issue for this team at times.

:pmd/talonflame: Removal was next for this team, and I decided to go with talonflame as it is much more reliable then corviknight against gholdengo. This is just the standard moveset, with it being able to help against tusk and other fightings types. Tera grass can help against wellspring in a pinch.

:pmd/hydrapple: Finally, the secondary breaker of the team, hydrapple can really wreck defensive teams if given the chance. Standard moveset, though tera steel is also an option to help against fairy types, but tera fairy helps against dragon types.

Congratulations to Heatranator for winning this week!

Week 16: A Plague of Locusts
:sv/lokix:
The other of our UU-tiered but A- Viability Pokemon, Lokix impressed many with its showings in SCL. It is a valuable anti-offense tool with extremely strong and scantily resisted priority. It also bullies fat teams fairly well with Knock Off and U-turn which are similarly rarely resisted due to Tinted Lens. Lokix's limitations come in the form of its hazard vulnerability (though that can be avoided with Boots sets on some teams, including SD Lokix sets) and its dependence on resilient pivots like AV Alomomola to give it free entrances. How will you support Lokix to mitigate these weaknesses and capitalize on its strengths? You have 1 week from Monday to build.

:Lokix: :Manaphy: :Dragapult: :Cinderace: :Corviknight: :Clodsire:

Not gonna sugarcoat it, this team is dogshit. Been using it on the ladder for fun since surprise factor on some of these mons is funny but it has been performing rather poorly due to too many poor MUs into top guys like Dragapult & Kyurem, as well as other mons like Dondozo. Its way too easy to forfeit with this squad.

SD Lokix is a very funny mon. If you get the SD Off, you can sweep a lot of games with it, which is easier that you'd expect with the threat of First Impression. Tera Dark Black Glasses is crazy, It can Straight up OHKO Great Tusk & Speedy Corv after a bit of chip with Knock Off.

Lokix Pairs well with Manaphy, which IMO is an extremely underrated mon given how effective it is. Balance teams still get slaughted by it & it has ample oppurtunities to setup on lokix's checks like Moltres. I initially ran Ice Beam but swapped to alluring Voice for the Kyurem MU. Vert's Covert Cloak set is still excellent against mons like Garg which can be tricky to answer still imo.

Next we have specs Dragapult, which can be a nice cleaner / breaker for the other guys. Crucial speed control and defensive utility against Ogerpon-W & Zamazenta. It has U-turn to easily pivot on Ting-Lu or Garganacl to give Lokix / manaphy a few oppurtunity to set up. Didn't want to run utility Pult since I already spam the daylights out of that set.

Cinderace is here since it is one of a few hazard removers. I am thinking of changing this set to a more offensive one, but bulky wisp has been nice for Kingambit. Tera Fairy is for Dragapult, though that MU is still really hard.

Corviknight is here to handle Roaring Moon / Kingambit. It was initially a Latios, but those match-ups proved to be too difficult to handle. Still, it does a nice job at handling Kingambit / Roaring Moon and is an amazing partner for Manaphy, which it can bring in safely with U-Turn on Gliscor.

Clodsire rounds out the team by providing a much needed water immunity (nice vs sun), as well as a rocks immunity. Been finding it very nice Pokemon in the Palafin meta to handle that Pokemon, as well as Zapdos.

Lokix Screens
:Grimmsnarl::Lokix::Manaphy::Gholdengo::Maushold::Great_Tusk:

ngl, I had a team with Kingambit and... I switched to :Lokix:.:psysly:
Bulk :Manaphy: is insane with screens, :Gholdengo: is almost an automatic win for Stall without Clodsire, CCloak for Garganacl, and also takes advantage of the immunities to Encore and Trick.
:Maushold: (yes, only one puppy) has a decent speed tier (faster than Waterpon, which helps Manaphy against Encore variants). Tera Fire for Glassy Glide, Bullet Punch and Flame Body. :Great_Tusk: with speed for Modest RBolt, R Spin + Icicle is enough for Dragonite without Terastal, the same goes for R Spin + Megahorn vs Waterpon, can be replaced by Knock Off or Head Smash btw. AV helps vs Rbolt and Valiant and is great at predicating Trick on Manaphy.

CB Lokix Hazardless Fat
85A10343-B8E2-45EB-A8F9-60D3FF3FC4BE.jpeg
https://pokepast.es/5b1ec8e9675178eb

This is my first team submission and I submitted right at the deadline so apologies for any mistakes. I really wanted to build a team around :lokix: and tried bulky offense but I struggled to find mons to support CB :lokix:. I figured I might as well go all in on the support and ended up with a fat team that helped me get into around 1700.

Choice Band :Lokix: is this teams primary form of speed control , outspeeding everyone except for Extreme Speed :dragonite: and helps break down mons after they've been chipped, comfortably checking :roaring_moon: :darkrai: even mons that threaten balance such as :Latias::hydreigon::Hydrapple:with a OHKO First Impression, even threatening them when they tera after chip.

:Weezing_Galar: is this teams primary hazard removal, able to defog even with :Gholdengo:, and is here to check fighting types that greatly annoy Lokix like :zamazenta: and :great_tusk:. It also greatly annoy switch-ins with burn from wisp, and discourages defensive cores like :gliscor: + :alomoMola: + :toxapex: from abusing their abilities. Tera Flying is mostly used to flip its ground weakness.

:Ting_Lu: is a fat staple and the main special wall. Blanket check to most special attackers like :raging_bolt: :gholdengo: etc. However, it is using Resttalk as it wants that extra longetivity with :alomomola: using Assault Vest (which I’ll get into later). Tera Water is for the sun matchup

:kyurem: is another fat staple that does :kyurem: things; Substitute against something spam Freeze-Dry Protect to scout and Leftovers recovery Earth Power for ground coverage. Can't say much else about it.

Standard Libero :cinderace: is this team's secondary hazard control, able to pass hazards and screens to the other team as well. Since this team normally hates bulky fairies, I opted for gunk shot as its coverage move to slam :clefable: hard and OHKO :primarina:, as well as decent neutral coverage for fire resists.

I chose AV :Alomomola: because I needed a water type that also served as a bulky pivot. I initially just tried standard wish mola, but I just got ripped apart by waters/fairies such as :Primarina: :Keldeo: :Clefable::walking_wake: Actually being able to switch into their attacks was important so I opted for assault vest, which synergizes well with my double hazard removal, and also flips the Sun matchup that fat usually struggles with. Also mirror coat does funny things vs unsuspecting special attackers. Tera Steel is for the :kyurem: matchup.

Since this team is hazardless, you primarily rely on bulk and positioning to make progress, making this team harder to pilot overall. It is rewarding as hell once you learn how to play around it though and you pretty much farm offense/hyper offense.

I don't have many replays but here is one https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ou-2275742601-bmapwh8b5gy7xfa0mxy1rp7e70rbrd2pw (bulky offense)

Goal was to make a more fun team than these classic momola+lokix core rather than making a tryhard team, so here the building process of the team :

Lokix :lokix: :choice_band: I wanted to play the classic CB set with first imprison u-turn and knock, the 4th move is leech life because it gives him recovery which he can use to win some 2ohko fights or to heal back enough HP to come back again on hazards later : an example here with leech life recovering enough hp to come back on spikes : turn 37 https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ou-2277546036-6mbyzzy364ynss2cmhremms6s6dbzmipw

Dragonite :dragonite: :assault_vest: since I didn't want to play :alomomola: I needed something that could still come on lot of attacks so I wanted a spdef and def mon, for spdef i opted for dnite cause he can come on any hit with av like any moonblast, hydrosteam, draco meteor, fiery dance etc and covers the water, fire, ground weakness kind of like a :alomomola: but in a funny way

Corviknight :corviknight: :leftovers: team really needs an hazard remover and corv does that with defog while also providing a needed defensive utility. Corv really helps vs stuff like :great_tusk: proto atk or :samurott_hisui:

Ogerpon-Wellspring :ogerpon_wellspring: :wellspring_mask: since lokix is choice band I wanted a mon to punish those who would like to set up on lokix like a random clef or garg so sd waterpon + encore is doing that well and it adds speed and wincond to the team

Dragapult :dragapult: :heavy_duty_boots: the 3rd pivot of the team with speed control, basically pult does its job, draco meteor has some good calcs and allows you to get burned without consequence

Thundurus-Therian :thundurus_therian: :heavy_duty_boots: I wanted a special sweeper and noticed the team is kinda weak to :raging_bolt: so I decided to add to the team its counter after tera fairy
