Project SV OU - Victim of the Week (Week 48: Assault Vest Hisuian Samurott)

Just a quick rules-question upon returning from a hiatus. What differentiates two of the same mon submissions from being allowed? Is it any specific rules, or a case-by-case basis?

Just a quick rules-question upon returning from a hiatus. What differentiates two of the same mon submissions from being allowed? Is it any specific rules, or a case-by-case basis?
To answer this, there are no super specific rules regarding this, though I'd like to think it should usually be pretty clear whether something is distinct enough for two sets to be submitted - for example, if one Pokemon has two similar sets that beat the target (such as IDBP Zamazenta & Band Zamazenta or Boots Pult & Specs Pult) I would usually say that they should prob not both be submitted, whereas if two completely different sets get submitted (like Sub Bulk Up Lando-T & Special Rocky Helmet Lando-T) I'd be more open to them both being voted on. Generally, I'd advise to steer clear of Pokemon that have already been submitted, but if you have a completely unique idea that isn't just the same thing with a move or two changed then I love seeing more creativity!
Next up, we'll be seeking to answer the last of OU's newest paradox Pokemon, a threat that initially flew under the radar for many but has recently started to pick up usage both on ladder and in tournament play. How will you take on the crown of Paldea?

:sv/Iron_Crown:
Iron Crown @ Assault Vest
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fighting
Timid Nature
EVs: 32 HP / 244 SpA / 232 Spe
IVs: 20 Atk
- Tachyon Cutter
- Psychic Noise
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch

A unique offensive profile along with a solid stat distribution give Iron Crown a role as a strong, bulky pivot in OU that can trade favourably in most games, with Tachyon Cutter giving it a strong STAB move that also effectively counter-leads Focus Sash Glimmora with its double-hitting effect. Psychic Noise as Crown's secondary STAB move can devastate walls that would try to switch in on a hit and recover off any damage taken, while Focus Blast hits Dark- and Steel-types that could otherwise take it on, able to be powered up into a massive hit with Tera Fighting. Volt Switch rounds out Iron Crown by really molding it into that role of a pivot, and a 4 attack set wears the Assault Vest almost as well as it does the crown. What will you come up with to parry the twin shotels?

Submissions are open until Monday, April 15th at 11:59PM EST
You may submit up to 1 check and 1 counter!

Iron Moth is faster and can OHKO with Fire Blast, or 2HKO if Iron Crown teras. Iron Crown can't OHKO it.

252 SpA Choice Specs Iron Moth Fire Blast vs. 32 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Tera Fighting Iron Crown: 178-210 (54.1 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Between Bulletproof and Ground typing, Ursaluna is immune to both of Iron Crown's coverage moves, and neither of Iron Crown's STABs can 2HKO. Headlong Rush is a OHKO even if Iron Crown teras.

252+ Atk Choice Band Ursaluna Headlong Rush vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Tera Fighting Iron Crown: 340-402 (103.3 - 122.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Heatran is a check to Iron Crown. With this spread and assault vest, Heatran can always take two focus blasts and survive (there is a small chance you can take 3). This allows it to get off a magma storm, which if it hits, will two hit ko iron crown. You can also tera ground if you are either scared if missing the magma storms will kill you or if you don't want Heatran to get volt switched on. This also means that Iron Crown is potentially 2hit ko'd by earth power. I've always loved assault vest heatran and here it shines.

Modest Nature

- Nasty Plot
- Recover
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
Gholdengo is a counter to iron crown. With both shadow ball and dazzling gleam, Gholdengo can hit iron crown super effectively no matter if it decides to tera or not. At worst, dazzling gleam is a 3hit ko, so not bad. The best iron crown can do is try to get a 4hit ko with tachyon cutter which is a 12.2% chance. It can however use psychic noise beforehand to make sure ghold can't recover off the damage and that's where the innovation of this set comes in, tera dark. Tera dark allows ghold to briefly blank a psychic noise from iron crown, which means it can recover off some of the damage. Iron Crown is then able to hit it with a focus blast for massive damage, but it will never ohko ghold unless they tera. This is moreso a last ditch effort for ghold, so I'd advise against it. But otherwise, ghold is a stonewall to crown who has to risk getting ko'd if it wants to beat ghold.

This is one of my favorite Landorus sets of this gen. Mainly because of the surprise factor. Earthquake is a guaranteed 2HKO against tera Fighting, so if your opponent burnt up their Tera Iron Crown can go to the car wash straight away. On the other hand, Lando can't take 2 seperate attacks so he will be my check for this week.

Iron Crown must be sobbing right now knowing that Blissey can still heal thanks to its Covert Cloak. So Blissey switches in on a STAB Focus Blast, but Soft-Boiled outheals. Whenever Blissey gets the chanse she can use Calm Mind to reduce further damage. And she gets the chance since Iron Crown's most effective move is famously dubbed "Focus Miss".

I've never been a big fan of Hoopa-U. I really like the small Hoopa, I think it's cute. That changed when I actually used AV Hoopa-Unbound in UU. It did a good job. I was surprised.
Hoopa-U is a counter to Iron Crown. It can knock the AV off and do damage with Psychic (if the Iron Crown clicks tera fighting) or Drain Punch. Gunk Shot would be your coverage to hit fairies but I prefer Dark Pulse/Hyperspace Fury cause Gunk Shot is just so inconsistent. Hoopa-U is immune to Psychic Noise so it can still heal itself with Drain Punch. Poison tera eliminates your Fairy weakness, but I wouldn't click it here.

Ting-Lu is a check. Its base typing gives it an immunity to both Volt Switch and Psychic Noise, and it's so disgustingly fat that it doesn't even mind Focus Blast that much. This gives Ting-Lu plenty of opportunities to threaten a 2HKO with Earthquake pre-Tera or, at the very least, set up hazards on the predicted switch.

A Tera Fighting-boosted Focus Blast does have a small chance of 2HKOing Ting-Lu from full in return, but this requires Focus Blast to hit multiple times in a row and Ting-Lu to not Terastallize itself in anticipation of such a thing.

Won’t be around to put the voting up until a little later but just want to lyk that this is a check, not a counter - if you switch in on Psychic Noise, you get 3HKOd while you can’t kill back if they Tera, and Weak Armor only procs on physical attacks so they still outspeed. Will take Cobalion as the submitted check unless you specify otherwise ^^

This also kinda struggles as a counter; while it can paralyse Crown and Chilly out on it, it’s unable to 1v1 it itself as it cannot Slack Off and can’t actually kill it before going down to repeated Psychic Noises and a final Volt Switch, and it can’t come in as a free Regen pivot either as Volt Switch outdamages Regenerator - even if coming in on a Psychic Noise, it just Volt Switches out next turn and you’re unable to use Slack Off. Happy to accept either this or Wellspring as a check but ya, unless I’m missing something I don’t think this is a guaranteed matchup for Slowking.
