What is Pokebilities AAA?
Pokebilities AAA, often shortened to PokeAAA, is the mashup of Pokebilities and Almost Any Ability. In this format, all of a Pokemon's obtainable base abilities are active simultaneously, plus one additional chosen ability, in the same vein as AAA.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do the abilities get added to the Pokemon?
A. In the teambuilder, select the your AAA ability ("chosen ability") in the ability slot. Your Pokemon will have its regular ('native') abilities added in battle.

Q. Why so many complex bans?
A. Due to the nature of the format, it is healthier to restrict broken combinations of abilities (mostly combinations that boost the user's speed) instead of banning one or both of the base abilities, which are not broken by themselves.

Q. Why is Regenerator Clause in effect?
A. Without it, Regenerator cores consisting of multiple base users and an AAA user dominate the metagame and are able to (effectively) infinitely stall other teams that cannot break through their cores.

Q. How do Weezing/Weezing-Galar work? :weezing: :weezing-galar:
A. At the moment of writing (9/13/25), Pokemon with Neutralizing Gas as a base ability will only have Neutralizing Gas active, all other abilities are supressed. Neither form will be immune to ground moves with Levitate, Weezing-G's Misty Terrain will not appear, and the chosen ability will be supressed

Q. How does Palafin work? :palafin: :palafin-hero:
A. In base form, Palafin will have its selected ability active. If Palafin is holding an Ability Shield, Zero-to-Hero will activate upon the second switch-in as normal, but it will not have its selected ability active. Without Ability Shield, Zero-to-Hero will not activate.
The following interactions are what happens when a Pokemon uses these abilities on the same set:
:lunala: :dragonite: Shadow Shield and Multiscale: Damage taken from full health is reduced to 1/4 of its original value
:great tusk: :iron valiant: Protosynthesis and Quark Drive: These abilities do not stack and the affected stat will only be boosted by 30%
:cofagrigus: :runerigus: Mummy and Wandering Spirit will only affect the chosen ability
:gardevoir: :porygon2: Trace will only trace the chosen ability
:muk-alola: :okidogi: Poison Touch and Toxic Chain do not interact with Sheer Force

Certain moves interact with abilities unconventionally:
:toxapex: :shaymin: Gastro Acid and Worry Seed will only affect the chosen ability
:deoxys-speed: :slaking: Skill Swap will only swap the chosen abilities. It will still fail if a Pokemon has Protosynthesis, Quark Drive, or other untransferable/unsupressable abilities as either base or chosen abilities.

I'm no mathematician but to me it makes more sense for Gliscor to be Marvel Scale over Fluffy. On account of non-contact moves and fire moves. Gliscor flounders anyways if its knocked, so I can't imagine it makes a huge difference that it needs a turn to get statused in the first place.

I think this works as a slash, especially for teams that are weak to fire and only need the 1.5x buff, but Fluffy is still the better ability in overall damage reduction.

Using SOR Grassy Surge Rillaboom as a frame of reference (strong neutral attack) against both Marvel Scale and Fluffy to illustrate the point.

252+ Atk Choice Band Sword of Ruin Rillaboom Wood Hammer vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Marvel Scale Gliscor in Grassy Terrain: 223-264 (63.3 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Choice Band Sword of Ruin Rillaboom Wood Hammer vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Fluffy Gliscor in Grassy Terrain: 168-198 (47.7 - 56.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Control Calc with neither ability:

252+ Atk Choice Band Sword of Ruin Rillaboom Wood Hammer vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Gliscor in Grassy Terrain: 336-396 (95.4 - 112.5%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Pretty sizeable difference in calcs imo. Fluffy Gliscor also has the option of protecting once to stay out of the 2HKO threshold, whilst Marvel Scale has to get lucky or switch.

Oh thats a pretty big difference. I think it definitely works as a slash due to Fluffy being on so many mons, making Gliscor a secondary wall rather than a primary. I can't think of that many impactful non-contact physical moves or impactful contact special moves. I think its just a team composition thing.

Hello again, it's time for a PokeAAA update! The tier has seen a noticeable increase in play and we've been able to figure some things out about balance and tiering! First things first:

Cloyster has been banned!
:cloyster: Cloyster's base ability of Skill Link forms a devastating combo with Technician, granting it a whopping 187.5 base power Icicle Spear and Rock Blast. With this gigantic power boost, Cloyster could even run a significant investment into its special attack to target the few physical walls able to stand up to it after a shell smash.

Several ability combinations are being restricted:
:tyranitar::excadrill: Sand Stream and Sand Rush
:abomasnow::sandslash-alola: Snow Warning and Slush Rush
As one of the only formats where Pokemon can have more than one active ability, PokeAAA has always needed to make some harsh restrictions to remain balanced. A notable historical example was the combination of a weather setting ability and a weather-dependent speed boosting ability, which immediately doubled the user's speed and often provided a power boost to their STAB or coverage moves. This combination is broken on a single Pokemon, but has counterplay and significant opportunity cost while restricted, as it forces teams to give up multiple slots for a combination easily disrupted by primal weather. Sand Stream + Sand Rush and Snow Warning + Slush Rush initially slipped under our radar, as they don't provide a power boost and are limited to a smaller pool of Pokemon, but have proven that they are much like their sun and rain counterparts. Simply put, the mechanic of doubling a Pokemon's speed without setup or additional team support is broken.
:hippowdon::sandslash: Sand Stream and Sand Veil
:ninetales-alola::ninetales-alola: Snow Warning and Snow Cloak
On the other hand, we all know Evasion boosting is fundamentally broken. In most other formats, running a team with a Snow Cloak or Sand Veil user is suboptimal and almost always not worth the opportunity cost. In PokeAAA, a Pokemon is able to set the condition and abuse the evasion boost without a teammate setting weather or being forced to manually set weather. Allowing these Pokemon to have an evasion chance significantly higher than brightpowder is unfair and uncompetitive, and as a result will be restricted from the tier. Unfortunately, Vulpix-Alola and Ninetales-Alola have the combination of Snow Warning and Snow Cloak as base abilities, and are not useable in the tier like last generation.

The Weather Rocks are all unbanned!
Now that the most problematic aspects of weather have all been dealt with, we are testing the presence of the weather extension stones in the tier. Weather is not in a great spot, and teams relying on weather are easily and harshly disrupted by common users of Desolate Land and Primordial Sea. Weather rocks were banned in Pokebilities, where primordial weather isn't available, and are not broken in this format.

Thanks for playing, and I hope to play against you in the PS! room sometime!
