WEEK 6
GRIMMSNARL
Pokedex_Image_Grimmsnarl_SV.png
Just like Samurott, Grimmsnarl came with the June drops. Though unlike the sea lion, it has more trouble finding its place in the meta. This is primarily due to Light Clay being banned in RU basically making its main set useless. This forces the players to show creativity when playing the Pokemon, which is exactly the point of this thread ! Grimmsnarl has a pretty high Attack stat making it as strong as Weavile or Passimian while having a really good movepool with Taunt, Trailblaze, Bulk Up, Thunder Wave and more. Not to mention its decent Sp. Attack stat and its access to Nasty Plot and good special movepool as well... Replays will be all the more useful this week as everything will be very new so they are extremely valuable to prove the efficiency of your set ! Then your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Grimmsnarl sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.

from Smogdex

Grimmsnarl @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Tera Type: Steel
Careful Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Taunt
- Spirit Break

Submission deadline: Sets should be submitted by 11:59 pm GMT+2 on Friday, June 23th,
Voting deadline: votes will go until 11:59 pm GMT+2 on Sunday, June 25th.

Bulk Up + Taunt Grimmsnarl

Grimmsnarl @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 248 Spdef / 8 Spe
Tera Type: Steel
Careful Nature
- Play Rough/ Crunch
- Drain Punch
- Bulk Up
- Taunt

This set is a great breaker/cleaner. It can set up on a bunch of mons with ease like Altaria, Mudsdale, Brute, Crunch locked Krook, and some other passive mons. It can come in early game or late game set up a bulk up or two, preventing trick attempts from Choiced users like Gardevoir, Mismagius, Rotom-Mow, etc. as well as ruining Klefki and Altaria. Play rough is an amazing stab move but crunch can also be used over it. Drain punch allows you to heal some of the damage you take.
Tera steel allows you to set up on some other mons like Dragalge and be immune to poison moves as well as resisting steel and fairy moves.
The 8 Spe EVs allow it to outpace Dragalge with 132 spe EVs and the rest was put into spdef to maximize it's special bulk.
Hope you like the set.

Thunder Wave + Parting Shot Grimmsnarl

Grimmsnarl @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 232 Atk / 24 Spe
Tera Type: Steel
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Thunder Wave
- Parting Shot
- Spirit Break

General idea
The idea is to use Prankster to make good use of Thunder Wave for Spe control (one of the key factors of the game) and Parting Shot to keep the momentum (another key factor). Prankster allows to run minimal Spe investment alongside Thunder Wave in order to focus the set on the offensive side with the dual STAB combination of Crunch+Spirit Break. Spirit Break is picked over Play Rough for the extra accuracy and for the utility alongside priority Parting Shot.

EVs spread and item
24 Spe EVs are enough to reach 162 points, enough to outspeed neutral 252 Spe EVs Lycanroc after a Thunder Wave.
The remaining EVs are put into HP (to add some bulk) and Atk to hit as hard as possible thanks to the Adamant nature.
Leftovers is picked to regain some hp back.

Team(mates) support
This Grimmsnarl shines when it has partners to switch into the battlefield after a Parting Shot.
A way to get rid of Dark types that are immune to Prankster status is needed.
Be wary of burns that reduce the offensive presence of this pokemon a lot.

Shiny! Item Matching~ (LO Grimmsnarl)

DISCORD-LIGHTMODE (Grimmsnarl) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Poison / Fighting
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Play Rough / Spirit Break
- Sucker Punch / Crunch / Facade (?)
- Thunder Wave / Fake Out / Bulk Up

Ah.. How pokemon fall when the item keeping it together is banned. (Or will be banned.)

Listen, it was a surprise for me and probably for you when Grimmsnarl fell to RU. Hey, ever noticed how Life orb kinda matches shiny Grimmsnarl?
The dudes got a lot going for it, 120 base attack aint such a laughable attack stat in RU (Its also his highest base stat, kinda funny since this pokemon has been used as a support.) 95 SPATK is good too, I can see some interesting sets down there.. but can they beat physical hatterene?

LO recoil is easily solved by DP, Play rough cause its play rough, or spirit break if youre feeling like ya team needs it.
Sucker Punch is just good priority, but since Tsareena is in the tier, you cant spam it. Crunch if you want a more consistent dark STAB. Facade seems like a cool idea if youre ever burnt by Arcanine, but dont use it lol.
The last move slot is really your choice! Thunderwave for speed control.. Fake out for those flinches.. Maybe bulk up too!
Tera Poison to cover up that fairy weakness, or fighting for more drain punch stab.
Youre a fairy that cant even resist fighting..

My guy Grimm doesnt do good against spikes, so please defog.

So, thats it. Life Orb Grimmsnarl.

Presenting my choice banded :grimmsnarl: set!
Grimmsnarl @ Choice Band
Ability: Frisk
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Trick
- Assurance

Grimmsnarl has good mu against some of the best physical walls of the tier in :altaria: :palossand:. It also boasts a great physical attack of base 120.
With this combined with boosted assurance and choice band, it can even 2ohko the best physical wall in the tier in :mudsdale: when it comes on a spike and rocks.
This set works well with u turn/volt switch users as they allow grimmsnarl to come in safely.

I hope you enjoy the set :psyglad:

Sub + NP
The greedy grinner (Grimmsnarl) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Nasty Plot
- Draining Kiss / Dazzling gleam
- Dark Pulse

Grimmsnarls forte is definitely physical sets with Bulk up and sucker punch and a generally better physical movepool and higher attack but 95 SpA isn't bad and with nasty plot grimmsnarl can be a potentially potent special attacker who can surprise physical walls like :Mudsdale: expecting a physical set. Dark + Fairy is a pretty cool stab combo that matches up well into walls like :Palossand: :Altaria: :bronzong: and only really has to worry about getting walled by :klefki:. Prankster substitute can be kinda fun but even if its not that good I still think its better than frisk to not reveal that you're offensive too soon. The given speed ev's outspeed 252 neutral :brute-bonnet: however I never really felt that it was all that relevant and you can probably get away with running less speed for more bulk. Grimmsnarl benefits a lot from pivot support from stuff like :tsareena: and :rotom-mow: who can help it get in safely since its not nearly as bulky as you would think it is especially on the physical side.

Grimmsnarl @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Dark / Fairy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Crunch / Spirit Break
- Bulk Up
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Priority setup and restalk is p neat on a mon who can scare darks itself, you can choose between coverage itself (crunch or break) depending on team itself, altho im more on crunch's side bc ur beating darks with BU anyway, It also doesnt need that much speed since its setting up First so It can invest in bulk and such

Btw rarely, light clay is banned from tier regardless so idt theres point on banning that :worrywhirl:

Good point, I try to make most of the bans according to the Smogdex in order to keep it official and therefore avoid any ambiguities from subjective ladder experiences so I guess this set was just about banning double screens making Light Clay irrelevant with or without it banned anyway.

So to make it clear, as Light Clay is banned from RU your set cannot be featuring Reflect or Light Screen.

Grimmsnarl @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Prankster
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- False Surrender
- Play Rough
- Drain Punch
- Trick

Grimmsnarl has a great base 120 attack, this in theory would let it hit a lot of physical walls in the tier for big damage, unfortunately.... That's really all Grimmsnarl has as far as stats go. This set aims to fix some of that, boosting it's mediocre speed to be one of the faster pokemon in the tier, allowing you to get the jump on pokemon like mismagius and heracross. Tricking your choice scarf is another great option for permanently disabling some pokemon that really want to set/remove hazards, spread status and heal up. Tera fighting is a very nice defensive tera on grimm, removing all but one of your weaknesses and letting drain punch do big damage to pokemon like arboliva, brute bonnet and iron thorns

Again lots of submissions this week, I am very glad that this thread is doing as good as it does so s/o to you guys ! Time to vote now !
1/:grimmsnarl:BU Taunt by Forest Guardian
2/:grimmsnarl: Prankster Twave by nameless90
3/:grimmsnarl:Life Orb by Xin Nevrakis
4/:grimmsnarl: Choice Band by frickEDmt
5/:grimmsnarl: Sub NP by Morge
6/:grimmsnarl: BU Restalk by Ampha
7/:grimmsnarl: Choice Scarf by Pickedman

Hyper bol's submission was not taken into account as no set was posted after the reservation, let's no do that too much from now on please.
Another quick word about move and tera alternatives. You are here to submit Pokemon sets, which are all ultimately composed of 4 moves. As such, move alternatives should not be used too much (looking at you Xin Nevrakis). For example, posts like Ampha's are perfect: there is one alternative which is explained very briefly and he made an argument on why he was leaning towards one in particular.

My vote for this week goes to Morge, nice special set.

WEEK 7
ZOROARK
Pokedex_Image_Zoroark_SV.png
Enough with the drops, let's dig in the June rises this week with Zoroark ! Zoroark is a very unique Pokemon thanks to its ability Illusion which can make it appear as any other Pokemon in your team when hitting the field. Therefore, it can work differently depending on its teammates so as you submit your set, you can totally name good teammates which can help amplify its efficiency. Illusion aside, Zoroark is one of the fastest Pokemon of the tier which has good stats in Attack AND Special Attack making it really threatening for every team out there. Moreover, it can boost both these stats with Sword Dance or Nasty Plot. Last, Zoroark has a great movepool with moves such as Knock Off, U-Turn, Trick, Encore or Taunt and great type coverage with Flamethrower and Sludge Bomb or even Grass Knot, Psychic and Focus Blast. Then your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to share your most creative Zoroark sets and explain them in order to contribute to the growth of the RU metagame.
Zoroark @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Illusion
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Low Kick
- Sucker Punch
- U-turn

Zoroark @ Choice Specs
Ability: Illusion
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Flamethrower
- Sludge Bomb/Trick
- U-turn
Submission deadline: Sets should be submitted by 11:59 pm GMT+2 on Friday, June 30th,

Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- U-turn
- Tera Blast

Choice band tera steel (aka bisharp at home) OHKOs not only helps Zoroark to resist gardevoir's moonblast and KO it back, but also cleanly KOs untera'd florges and sylveon, while knock and uturn greatly compliment Tera steel for coverage, while also providing good utility with item removal and pivoting, Sucker was chosen more for revenge killing purposes(barraskewda, gardevoirs in a pinch, etc)
