Overview
########
By virtue of its good typing that offers a crucial Electric immunity, Mega Swampert is a good Pokemon on rain teams as a Swift Swim user with an immunity to Thunder Wave. Provided that rain is up, Mega Swampert is a very strong and fast Pokemon, and it has a wide movepool with all the coverage options it needs. However, Mega Swampert does not get the Swift Swim boost the turn it Mega Evolves, which means it is still quite slow for a turn. It also fails to outspeed common Choice Scarf users such as Keldeo and Latios, even in the rain. Nevertheless, Mega Swampert is one of the most dangerous rain sweepers.

Rain Sweeper
########
name: Rain Sweeper
move 1: Waterfall
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Ice Punch
move 4: Power-Up Punch / Superpower
ability: Damp
item: Swampertite
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
nature: Adamant

Moves
========
Waterfall hits incredibly hard, boosted by the rain and coming from a base 150 Attack. Earthquake is a solid secondary STAB attack and is also Mega Swampert's hardest-hitting attack outside of the rain. Ice Punch hits the Grass- and Dragon-types that resist Mega Swampert's STAB combination, most notably Celebi, Latios, Latias, and Dragonite. In the last moveslot there are two options. Power-Up Punch is not very useful as a coverage move but gives Mega Swampert a way to boost its Attack stat, allowing it to wallbreak more easily. However, Superpower hits Ferrothorn, Mega Gyarados, and Kyurem-B for relevant super effective damage and hits Rotom-W harder than Waterfall does outside of rain. If you cannot fit it somewhere else in your team, Stealth Rock can fill this moveslot.

Set Details
========
Maximum Attack investment with an Adamant nature makes Mega Swampert hit as hard as possible. Maximum Speed investment allows Mega Swampert to outspeed the whole unboosted metagame, as well as some slower Choice Scarf users such as Landorus-T and Kyurem-B, under the rain. If outspeeding those two Pokemon is less of a priority and you would rather have more bulk, an alternative EV spread of 104 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spe, which still outspeeds Mega Sceptile and Mega Beedrill, can be used. Though Damp is rarely useful, it is preferred over Torrent as Swampert's ability before Mega Evolving; Torrent is completely useless because Swampert will always Mega Evolve before attacking, while Damp can at least stop an Explosion from the occasional Azelf or Mega Glalie.

Usage Tips
========
Mega Swampert can Mega Evolve for free against common Electric-types that cannot deal significant damage to Mega Swampert, such as Mega Manectric, Thundurus, and Raikou, or against Fire-types such as Victini and non-Solar Beam Heatran, as well as more passive Pokemon such as Klefki, Chansey, and non-Body Slam Jirachi. Try to avoid taking too much damage while Mega Evolving if you rely on Mega Swampert to take on a threat to your team. After the rain is up try to bring Mega Swampert in as soon as possible, as eight turns of rain is not a lot and you want to make the most of it. That does not mean that you should blindly switch it in, however, but instead with pivots or double switches. It can also be more helpful to get entry hazards up first or to send in another Swift Swim user at times. Burn and poison should always be avoided, because they make Mega Swampert easy to wall and easy to wear down, respectively. Late-game is when Mega Swampert works best, as it can clean up after its checks and counters are either gone or weakened. If rain is up, it is almost never a bad idea to click Waterfall, simply because of how strong it is.

Team Options
========
Politoed is a mandatory teammate because it can provide rain for Mega Swampert without wasting a turn to do so. It can also create free turns for Mega Swampert with Encore or Perish Song, or by baiting in Electric-types that Mega Swampert can freely Mega Evolve against. Other rain setters such as Klefki, Tornadus-T, Thundurus, and Azelf are also good teammates despite needing a turn to set up rain. At least one other Swift Swim user such as Kabutops, Omastar, or Kingdra is necessary, because with only one Swift Swim user rain teams are not nearly as threatening. Kabutops and Omastar are the best choices, because they can take on Talonflame, which can set up against the obligatory Grass-type teammates rain teams carry. They also help with overwhelming Pokemon such as Ferrothorn and Rotom-W, which are often relied on to take on rain offense, better than Kingdra does. Pokemon that can take on the Grass-types that check Mega Swampert, such as Tornadus-T, Talonflame, Thundurus, Latios, and Latias, are also good teammates. Like every Pokemon, Mega Swampert appreciates entry hazard support, because it helps to wear down Mega Swampert's checks and counters. It also helps Mega Swampert score some extra OHKOs and 2HKOs, such as the guaranteed 2HKO with Waterfall against standard Mandibuzz with Stealth Rock and rain up.

Other Options
########
Low Kick can be used over Superpower for more consistent power or if stat drops are unappealing to you. When Mega Swampert is on the verge of fainting, Endeavor can bring down the health of a Pokemon it cannot break for an offensive partner. Substitute circumvents status, eases prediction, and makes Mega Swampert harder to play around. Yawn can shut down some of Mega Swampert's checks, which also aids other rain sweepers. However, it does waste turns of rain which you could also use to attack with Mega Swampert or to switch to another Pokemon. Protect gives Mega Swampert a free turn to Mega Evolve but unfortunately also uses up a turn of rain. Mega Swampert can use Rain Dance in the fourth moveslot if you want another rain setter, or as an independent sweeper outside of dedicated rain teams. A bulkier set with Waterfall, Earthquake, Rest, Sleep Talk and an EV spread of 208 HP / 252 Atk / 48 Spe makes better use of Mega Swampert's respectable bulk and typing while still outspeeding almost the whole unboosted metagame under rain.

Checks & Counters
########

**Grass-types**: Bulky Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur, Celebi, and Chesnaught have little trouble switching into even an Ice Punch and can threaten Mega Swampert out with their super effective STAB moves or set up Nasty Plot or Spikes. Ferrothorn can also switch in against anything but a Superpower or Low Kick. Frailer ones such as Serperior and Mega Sceptile cannot switch in safely and lose if rain is up, but they can still defeat Mega Swampert outside the rain.

**Bulky Water-types**: Although not all of them can switch in safely, bulky Water-types such as (Mega) Slowbro, Suicune, Rotom-W, Gyarados, Alomomola, Manaphy, and Gastrodon can threaten Mega Swampert with rain-boosted STAB Water-type attacks. Slowbro and Suicune can also set up on it.

**Dedicated Physical Walls**: Dedicated physical walls such as Skarmory, Cresselia, and Porygon2 can wall Mega Swampert despite lacking a type advantage. Power-Up Punch Mega Swampert can, however, break through them if it has not taken a lot of prior damage.

**Faster Pokemon**: Opposing rain sweepers with higher Speed, such as Kingdra and Kabutops, can revenge kill Mega Swampert with rain-boosted STAB attacks. Very fast Choice Scarf users such as Keldeo and Latios can also outspeed Mega Swampert even in the rain and can deal heavy damage with Hydro Pump and Draco Meteor, respectively. Additionally, Mega Alakazam can revenge kill Mega Swampert with Psychic or Psyshock if Mega Swampert has been worn down enough by Tracing Swift Swim.

**Status**: Mega Swampert is immune to Thunder Wave but hates burn and poison because they make it easy to wall and easy to wear down, respectively. Other ways of paralyzing, such as Body Slam and Glare, also cripple Mega Swampert immensely.

**Other Weather**: Although no weather inducer can switch in safely against Mega Swampert, they can still remove the rain, taking Mega Swampert's Speed away.

Overview

  • Pretty good typing that allows it to take on all Electric-types in the tier, and makes it a staple on rain teams as a Swift Swim user immune to Thunder Wave.
  • Is very fast and strong in the rain because of Swift Swim.
  • Has great bulk that allows it to take neutral hits from some Choice Scarf users or priority with ease.
  • Does not get the Swift Swim boost the turn it Mega Evolves, which means it is still slow turn one.
  • Reliant on rain from Politoad or other rain setters to sweep.
  • Still fails to outspeed common Choice Scarf Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Keldeo even in the rain.
  • Does not have the greatest STAB coverage, but has pretty nice coverage options to make up for that.
I'd be inclined to remove the mention of bulk, because Swampert's one of those 'Mons where its bulk tends to be overestimated. It's actually pretty lackluster and with no way to heal, it can't really take more than 1 neutral hit most of the time (for example, it's 2HKOed by stuff like Scarf Lando-T or Defensive Rotom-W after Rocks). No need to mention the STAB coverage, as Water/Ground is actually pretty great in this meta, just say it has a wide movepool.

Set and Moves

I'd suggest a spread of 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe, since it lets you outspeed Scarf Landorus-T. Swampert's bulk is somewhat mediocre anyway so it appreciates the speed more, as well as before Mega Evolving. Earthquake hitting 5 types for SE is fluff imo, you can take that out. I'd also mention Latios/Latias as targets of Ice Punch before stuff like Chesnaught (who can tank a few) or Mega Sceptile (who is less common), because Lati@s are more prevalent. I'd also slash PoP before Superpower and Low Kick, since it helps Swampert break through bulky waters and just generally a large variety of 'Mons, and it gets more chances to use it than one would think. Low Kick is almost exclusively for Ferrothorn and Superpower isn't doing massive damage to Rotom-W anyway.

Partners

Add onto the additional Swift Swimmers point that they can help overload Pokemon such as Ferrothorn or Rotom-W, who are relied on to check most Swift Swimmers. This is personal preference, but I'd suggest you emphasize the need for Omastar or Kabutops over Kingdra, because at +2 Talonflame can OHKO both Swampert and Kingdra and run through the team (it gets opportunities to set up against the obligatory Grass-type rain partner, among other things).

Other Options

Mention Yawn as well, as it can shut down some of Swampert's checks, which can also aid other rain sweepers. I'd also remove the mention of PhysDef and SpDef sets, as normal Swampert can do both of these better thanks to Leftovers recovery. It's a very small niche anyway so it doesn't really need a mention at all. Maybe another QC member can check on this, but I'd remove mention of the Curse set as well; again, if you REALLY want something like that then regular Swampert would outclass Mega Swampert in that regard, but generally Curse is left to Megas such as Aggron.

Otherwise looks good, 1/3

Overview

I wouldn't emphasize Mega Swampert's reliance on rain as a flaw necessarily. It's a Pokemon designed for rain teams and that's its niche, not doing anything else. I suppose it's not exactly a positive that it has to use rain to be effective, but that's certainly not major enough to warrant a mention.

Rain Sweeper

I'd rather go with max Speed for the sake of outrunning Scarf Kyurem-B. For the sake of 32 rather menial HP EVs, you might as well.

Low Kick isn't really that great of an option. The only Pokemon it really hits for any sort of significant damage is Ferrothorn, on which it does just over half. Power-Up Punch is Mega Swampert's best option in the last slot, allowing it to take advantage of sacs and enhance its breaking capabilities enormously, allowing it to gain a number of KOs on defensive and offensive Pokemon alike. For instance, +0 EQ -> PuP -> +1 EQ kills Ferrothorn. +1 Waterfall in rain 2HKOes Skarmory, OHKOes mixed defensive and SpD versions of Mega Sableye, OHKOes standard Mew and Clefable, and 2HKOes the bulkiest of Mega Scizor. +1 EQ OHKOes Azumarill, Keldeo, and ~75% offensive Mega Venusaur while easily 2HKOing Slowbro. Superpower is still worth a slash due to its sheer damage output on Ferrothorn (KOing after an EQ much of the time) as well as coverage on Rotom-W, Mega Gyarados, and Kyurem-B. Low Kick is just wholly lackluster, though, and isn't even really worth mentioning. PuP should be slashed first.

Mention Latis as a target of Ice Punch.

Mega Evolving against Electric-types isn't really covering the whole story with Mega Evolving. Talk about trying to avoid damage while Mega Evolving, which can be pretty important if you're looking to have Swampert check something later on, and mention some other examples of Pokemon to Mega Evolve against besides the obvious Electric-types.

Bringing Mega Swampert in immediately isn't always exactly how things should play out after you set up rain. You definitely shouldn't switch in Swampert recklessly or blindly; it can be helpful to utilize pivots and pivot switches in order to get Swampert in so that you aren't piling up damage on it. Furthermore, Swampert is not always the best choice for the scenario, as you might want rocks up or have another Swift Swimmer -- something along those lines. You make it sound as if bringing Swampert in immediately is concrete when it really isn't.

Other Options

Could throw in Protect as a way to make Mega Evolving with Swampert a bit easier.

Checks & Counters

This is missing Rotom-W, Gyarados, Skarmory, and Alomomola. The section about rain sweepers should be expanded in scope to include the faster Scarfers, specifically Keldeo and Latios.

Did everything Jukain. I also renamed rain sweepers to faster Pokemon because Choice Scarf users are not rain sweepers, and added Dedicated Physical Walls.

Not Q/C but i would also recommend stating that damp allows swampert to switch in on the the more threatening mega glalie's explosion along with azelfs.

just a few nitpicks, but i would move up stealth rock from oo to moves section in the analysis, but don't give it a slash for the sake of tidiness. pert's 4th option is usually filler and sr is a very viable option for it. i would also mention the previous ev spread of: 104 hp / 252 atk /152 spe adamant in set details as an alternative if outspeeding scarf kyu-b and land-t is less of a priority and would rather have some bulk. it outspeeds up to mega scept and bee which is still a good benchmark. you should beef up oo as well. for yawn, state how it is counterintuitive with pert's role in rain, and it stalling out its precious rain turns. get rid of refresh and instead replace it with substitute. it still is able to circumvent status while also eases prediction and makes pert harder to play around. mention low kick for its overall consistency in power and if stat drops from spower are unappealing. endeavor is also a cool option to use on it, being able to bring down something it can't break when it is on the verge of fainting is critical for another offensive partner. a rest talk set should also be mentioned, here is a good team showcasing its effectiveness http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/heavy-rain-peaked-1-on-ou-ladder.3525035/ . sporting respectable bulk, nice def typing while still hitting like a truck is what this set exemplifies. agree with tom and jukain's checks as well, gj 2/3

Thank you! Did everything except this:

Torrent is literally useless because Mega Swampert is going to Mega Evolve anyway, it will never get the boost.
In that case, change it to

Damp is the preferred ability before Mega Evolving, because despite being rarely useful, it is still better than Torrent which is completely useless as Swampert will always Mega Evolve before attacking, as it can stop an Explosion from the occasional Azelf and Mega Glalie.

The comparison between Damp and Torrent still has to be made, and I think it'd be good to have this explanation

Like every Pokemon, (comma) Mega Swampert appreciates entry hazard support, because it helps to wear down Mega Swampert's checks and counters.

Protect gives Mega Swampert a free turn to Mega Evolve, (remove comma) but unfortunately also uses up a turn of rain. Mega Swampert can use Rain Dance in the fourth moveslot if you want another rain setter, or as an independent sweeper outside of dedicated rain teams. A bulkier set with Waterfall, Earthquake, Rest, Sleep Talk and an EV spread of 208 HP / 252 Atk / 48 Spe makes better use of Mega Swampert's respectable bulk and typing, (remove comma) while still outspeeding almost the whole unboosted metagame under rain.

Checks & Counters
########

**Grass-types**: Bulky Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur, Celebi, and Chesnaught have little trouble switching into even an Ice Punch and can threaten Mega Swampert out with their super effective STAB moves, (remove comma) or set up Nasty Plot or Spikes.

Very fast Choice Scarf users such as Keldeo and Latios can also outspeed Mega Swampert even in the rain, (remove comma) and can deal heavy damage with Hydro Pump and Draco Meteor and Hydro Pump, respectively. Additionally, Mega Alakazam can revenge kill Mega Swampert with a Psychic or Psyshock if Mega Swampert has been worn down enough by Tracing Swift Swim.

**Status**: Mega Swampert is immune to Thunder Wave, (remove comma) but hates burn and poison because they make it becomes easy to wall and easy to wear down, respectively. Other ways of paralyzing, such as Body Slam and Glare, also cripple Mega Swampert immensely.

**Other Weather**: Although no weather inducer can switch in safely against Mega Swampert, (comma) they can still remove the rain, taking Mega Swampert's Speed away.
